Will it be able to withstand shock then seeing as the film has been removed?
Might be extremely fragile?
If its JDI then it must be using ltps which means lower battery consumption

No.there is White balance app but Screen is caliberated by Sony themselves.their developer blog is claiming they are using a very hardly tweaked algoritim used in advanced displays to achieve wide color gamut. which tests proved them right:good:
It's a huge improvement over the old variants of TFT, colors are not degrading with angles. However there's considerable amount of brightness loss, more so than on your regular IPS / AMOLED viewing angles.

Hi,
i just got the HTC legend last night and noticed that the colors are a little washed out at anything under 40% brightness, even the gray areas of the theme are brownish and at the lowest brightness level all the the dark coolers have a brown tint.
its only ok when its at 100% brightness .
is this normal or should i renter it ?

Same here. And I remember some reviewers also complained about yellow tint on low brightness levels. So it's probably the way this display is supposed to be, unfortunately.

mine is the same as well but my screen is also showing pinkinsh grey hue on certain websites. If you browse to www.htc.com you'll see that the flash banner's background have a tint of pinkness. This is the htc desire issue as well in the topic below

at 100% brightness all grey looks grey " web pages, theme, etc" but as soon as i go ~40% the brown becomes noticeable everywhere, when i hit the lowest brightness things get really ugly .
on mine only the very lowest getting looks wrong however I also own a cowon s9 and that has an amoled screen to and on the lowest brightness colors go off on that to. id say its got something to Do with amoled screens as they have no blight so lowering the brightness feeds less power to the scrwen.
or least I think thats how they work
Sent from my HTC Legend using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
this I would assume has something to do with how an amoled screen works I own other amoled devices and they all exhibit similar behavior.
as far as I know amoled has no back lights so when the brightness is lowered the power provided to the screen is diminished causing it to incorrectly display certain colors

I set the brightness at the max but the web pages are still pink (htc.com).
Sent from my HTC Legend using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
the pink hue is caused because the screens that HTC use have the process aligned in a pen and tile config. there is an extensive article about this based on the nexus one.do a Google search

this is true, however if htc has used these types in those 2 others its a safe assumption they would use the same in the legend
having said that mine does not look pink at all so who knows
the pink is noticeable only on particular web pages and on the gmail application.
I would understand if that is a common situation or it is present only on difected phones.
Just don't go below 40% brightness. Problem solved.
By the way, the Legend has a normal RGB-subpixel layout, therefore it shouldn't have a pink hue.
There are always complaints on this forum about color banding on the Xperia's 65k display, so I thought that on my new Galaxy Tablet which boasts '16 million' colors in its specs this issue would not be present.
To my surprise, Xperia's color gradients are a lot smoother.
One example would be the XDA app welcome screen which is very smooth on the Xperia's screen, but shows coarse banding on the Galaxy Tab.
The dithering technique on the Xperia seems a lot more sophisticated and I came to question if Android OS is even capable of displaying over 65536 colors at all.
Any insights into the issue?

SE changed it to look better becouse normally it would should look worser with 65k and they didnt implented 16m Colors so they changed this to look better.
Samsung always fudge their numbers.
I remember buying a samsung monitor, which was the most expensive at the time, advertised as 16+ million colours and the thing done some horrible dithering - Everything had dithering on it! EVERYTHING.
The older LCD 16bit monitor it replaced had no noticeable dithering at all and gradient changes were subtle.
I've never bought a Samsuck product again.
The samsung galaxy S is also doing some weird stuff with its colours, it's blacks are fantastic but everything else is bleh!! and the pixels are about 10X bigger than the X10s.
The color from 1.6 were noticeably garbage....alot of my favorite wallpapers looked like **** with lines all over....I couldn't even use them. Then SE announced they would not be giving us 16M colors in 2.1 so I was pissed! BUT! I didn't know they were going to do something with the colors...because whatever they did they most certainly did a damn good job because the colors in 2.1 are phenominal! ALL the wallpapers I choose look AWESOME! As for Samsung....I think there super amoled screen is overated...I just sold my Galaxy S to return to the X10...the screen is really nice on the Galaxy, but like I said before the higher resolution on the X10 makes it a very VERY close match IMO.

The first one I ever got was AMOLED which I sold and now I got another Nexus One with a SLCD. Wow, I gotta admit the SLCD is much more clearer than the AMOLED. As for screen response, I feel like it's a little faster. I am running Cyanogen 7.1 RC1 and so far so good.
Was anything else changed on the phone besides the screen? I feel like it's a nice revision from the first Nexus One.
i've always wanted to switch for an SLCD jsut because its clearer, sharper, and my theory is that the screen draws much less power and will be better for battery life for web browsing. i wonder how true that is.
How do you tell if it is AMOLED or SLCD?

Debatable. LCDs draw a constant amount no matter what is displayed. OLED only draws power for pixels lit up.
Originally it was thought that OLEDs would be much less power but in the end it is so close that it is determined by content.
If you go in slickdeals.net and search the forum for "Nexus" they have one for around $249

exactly. i'm so sick of having to watch what type of content i'm looking at. anythign white just murders my battery and i lose 1% every 2 minutes checking stocks and whatnot. an SLCD pulls a constant current no matter the content, and i feel it would be much more manageable.

How to test your tab.
1. Go in to a pitch black room.

That might be because of the 7.7 doesn't have any backlighting...

How about a screen shot of a totally black web page in a totally black room?
After some more reading, I decided to keep my "faulty" tab. This is not a big deal after all. Plus there is this problem on S II, and one is complaining. I agree that it is bad that there is this problem, but now I think its minor, and the samoled panel is still gorgeous 90% of the time I use it.

The pixel arrangement does cause the odd artifact to appear on fonts, yes. I sometimes see green halos on the top edges of white fonts on black if i really want to look for it.
There is also a very clear row of red sub pixels at the bottom of the display. if this is what the OP means by 'the boarder' then yep its there and nope he's not just 'seeing things'. Id post an image from my SLR which shows it very clearly but i need 10 posts to link to external websites lol.
Anyway, it's there and real. But its so small that you can't see it really unless you are looking for it. So my advice to the OP is just dont worry about it And my advice to everybody else is.....get your eyes tested
If i look closely i can also see pixels.. i guess we'll have to wait for 600+ ppi displays.

This is by far the funniest response to a post I've ever seen in my life. Thank you
It's just crap images, not the lack of pixels. Find a PDF document (vector graphics instead of pixels) and you won't be able to see any.

Yes, I mean there is green/red pixel around the edge of white font especially in dark background. For example in keyboard.
