I cant tell if its glass or plastic? I think i need to get a screen cover anyways as i managed to scratch the glass on both my vibrant and iphone while being super careful yet my gf drops her phones like its her job and everything but the screens were scratched
Ive been informed its Gorilla Glass. Hope this helps! =)
Hi, ive been getting a lot of questions from people whether or not the logo at the back is baked in the anti shatter film.
I just wanted to share that I removed mine(back) and the logos sony, xperia, g lens and nfc icon is inside the glass so no need to worry.. the film is really dust magnet so better remove it. downside is that the glass doesnt feel smooth and it is still the same fingerprint magnet as the film. only difference is it doesnt accumulate dust anymore except the ones that come from your hand.
you can buy glass cleaners with oleophobic property to solve this problem.
the only thing im wondering now is whether or not the color on the frame will come off in time. I hope its not paint and the metal is purple itself as i got the purple one. the same reason why Im hesitant to wash it.. especially the silver on the sides Im not sure if it will come off with frequent washing.
as for the front, do not remove it as the sony logo is baked on the film. unless you dont intend to keep the logo. anyway, thats it! I also have couple of questions I hope you guys can help me with.. these are general issues of phone usage. here is the link.

thanks!
I can help you to answer that metal question: As mine has fallen to the ground several times and my metal frame got damaged a bit, I can see that the metal seems to be all purple. No use of paint.
:good:
nevertheless it is a pain, having to realize, that you actually can't get that flawless beaty back, once the metal is chipped...

Did your Z1 Compact no come with a spare screen protector?
The embedded screen protector is shatterproof but not scratch resistant so it's recommended that you apply a screen protector over the embedded one. Sony sometimes supply a spare screen protector in the box for you apply.
Original Embedded screen protector is (ASF) not scratch resistant.
there is already a thread discussing the screen protector below and you should find the info you need.

You might need to look at this thread too if considering scratches on Back.

Thank You! I'll take a look!
Bit unsure of the terminology. But I assume the ASF is the plastic film over the front glass?
I doubt there is no way to replace that?
Mine got scratches and scuff marks after a few days too, bullcrap.
I will probably end up ripping it off, if this is what it looks like already!
Not willing to put it in a case. Just looks awful.

I believe ASF stands for anti shatter foil. Not sure with the Z1c, but with the Xperia Z you could use a pencil to try and scratch it off.
saw some interesting post regarding Anti Shutter Proof (ASF) removal doesn't void Sony warranty.

I would choose "Anti Shutter Proof (ASF) removal doesn't void Sony logo" than "Anti Shutter Proof (ASF) removal doesn't void Sony warranty" any day! lol! Had 8 smartphones ever since and never did I get the chance to use the warranty service on any of them.

Good afternoon folks.
I know this isn't the best place to put my question, but I didn't know where to do it.
My mom scratched my Note 4 screen by putting it in her purse, alongside all her feminine stuff.
I have an original flip case, but it opened when she putted the phone on her purse.
I need to know if there is any way to remove those scratches, only one is a little deep, but all the others are superficial.
I need help, because I've searched all over internet and all I've found is to use toothpaste and a wet kleenex to wipe it off.
Thank you all.
+1 i have same problem as op but my scratches are extremely light

Toothpaste trick only work for minimal scrathes.
Try to put tempered glass, it cant solve your problem but it will hide few scratches.
There is a paste for glass polishing, product with little sponge, the one that used for car glasses I guess will remove all scratches.

You have me curious regarding this polish. Ive always thought that superficial scratches on smartphone screens only go as deep as the oleophobic coating. Arent scratches like miniature valleys that can be filled with some sort of film or lets just say a bottle of olephobic coating? Can we have an in depth thread about scratches?
I had a similar problem . The screen of my note 4 scratched just by wearing it in my jeans pocket in the first week after purchase
I went to the nearest Samsung service and they replace the scratched screen for free . The replacing process took only an hour . This has made me a samsung fan .
So what I'm saying is go to samsung and see what they say . You may have a pleasant surprise
Are you using a screen protector you can recommend? I'm in the UK, so it would be helpful if I can buy it from a UK source. I've seen someone suggest the Skinomi in this thread but not sure I need the a whole-phone cover. I know tempered glass ones are problematic due the the curvature of the screen. If you're using one that's good and you can recommend it, please post a link...
Thank you!
The nilikin screen protectors are pretty good! The tempered glass screen protectors are rubbish man.. They have a ton of room left over unprotected on the screen and they have extreme halo.. I would recommend getting one of the plastic ones. Nilikin or IQ shield, both can be found on amazon.
2.5D curved glass and non-removable batteries are the most obvious planned-obsolescence type of features.
If you break the fragile screen you are very likely to have to get a new device.
