''not registered on network'' error please help!!! - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

ok straight of the bat im a total noob with odin alll android firmwares and phones etc.
much to your displeasure i am an apple fanboy... but i really need your help guys!
my situation is as follows: i bought a samsung galaxy s4 relatively cheap of an aquaintance, i used a link on a forum here to see if it was blacklisted and results say it wasnt, i bought an unlock code and it worked ''network unlock sucessful'' YAY... then i try and call the number and after a while im redirected to 02 messaging service. next i try to dial out and i get hit with the not registered on network error. now funny enough i get a warning triangle saying no service yet i get service bars and even 3g; also when i select a network manually and choose 02 it says registered.it also says emergency calls only.
basically i need your guys advice and solutions...
why it may be this way: well as soon as i got i rooted it and it worked i believe this was on 4.3, pretty much as soon as i had done this it was throwing this error at me, after a long time i came back to it and researched more into this golden restore, and the phone was locked to ee now there modem doesnt allow access to the service menu so i changed my modem, when flashing on odin i have tried pda and phone,,,(idek what im doing) i have a GT-I9505 on rooted 4.3 (not sure which root) with baseband: I9505XXUEMK8 and a build number:JSS15J.I9505XXUEMJ8
basically im asking one of you guys how do i reset this to stock 4.3 by flashing with odin, its originally locked to ee but now its been unlocked so can i use btu not ee files? have any of you had this problem and how did you overcome it?

[Q] Blocked from AT&T after international travel

I have read through this forum for hours and in no way savvy with this stuff; I have learnt a lot so thank you but please help me.
I just don't know how to tell what the problem is with my phone therefore i don't know which of the 100s of solutions here to apply.
its a S4 i337 previously used on AT&T LTE network, I traveled overseas and used other country's sim card for a short time after giving it to service provider to program. i believe phone was rooted and settings changed for this to happen, though i did not do them or know what they did.
I returned to U.S. and reinserted AT&T sim, made one call, but phone seems to trigger anti theft or network suspend right after. I have had it unlocked twice by AT&T but first use thereafter seems to reblock me out of their network and i get message that this device is blocked from network use. When I call they say phone shows stolen and i repeat process above only to get reblocked again.
I don't know if it is APN settings, previous rooting or what that is causing this? I found an app called SuperSU on the phone, i clicked on its settings and clicked "full unroot" which made app icon disappear but can't tell if I am really unrooted or not. I have also done factory reset and lost everything already, I just want phone to work back on AT&T network as before.
Android version 4.2.2

please help me… i am not sure if i need to reroot, delete binary counter, flash with files???? i have read some about odin files, don't know what is the latest and which sources are safe…just confused all around.
please someone tell me where to start

Take it to a best buy Samsung service counter and have them reflash the firmware or update it to MK2. Wipe everything (including internal and external SD card) Then, call att to unblock it again. If it relocks, then go back to the Samsung service counter, tell them the issue and see if they can restore your efs for you from a backup. If they can, do it and then unblock it.
If after all this it relocks, its not your device. Its att who are at fault. Then all you can do is to yell at them.
EDIT:
Another possibility is that the ppl who unlocked your phone overseas stole your imei number and used it to revive a blocked stolen phone. In that case your imei is in an international stolen imei database and you are probably out of luck.

Interesting. If the IMEI was stolen, what would the phone show? Would they clone the IMEI (so it would show the same IMEI) or would it come up as UNKNOWN or blank or something. Reason I am asking is that I've been try to fix an issue with my father-in-law's phone that completely lost the ability to connect to wifi/data after having his S4 "unlocked" in Vietnam to use a local SIM there. Tried may reflashes with MK2 and custom TW ROM's but none work with wifi anymore (data works ok).
If data and calling works then the imei is fine. Its some other issue..

All is speculation but there is a small posibility that when you gave your phone that person gave you another phone which indeed was stolen. Your best bet is to go to the samsung guys right now or learning how to restock your phone. You tube search videos How To Unroot & Unbrick Samsung Galaxy S4
so its been a few days now with no service. it turns out my phone has somehow been programmed with a different imei that comes up as stolen according to at&t. so the theory of my imei having been stolen is pretty possible. every time i have the phone unblocked from the network, one phone call or message causes it to trigger the stolen phone alert and kick me out the at&t network. i have been to the at&t store with my device and the original packaging that shows my original and correct imei but the one that the phone is registering on screen does not match what is on my actual handset sticker and original packaging. the phone never left my sight the entire trip so i am 100% positive my handset was never switched, if anything it was reprogrammed with the stolen imei and they stole mine which is now working fine out there for some crook
i just can't believe that at&t can't verify my original imei that came with the phone i bought from them and just reprogram my phone and get my service going again. its looking like i will need to find a way to recover my imei myself. although i just got the 4.4.2 update that force placed itself on my zero service phone. hope this post helps to alert others to be careful of this type of thing.
Wow! what country did u visit?
If your s4 had insurance I would report the phone as stolen and give the original Imei to be blacklisted and try to get a new phone.

[Q] Galaxy S4 SGH i337m Sim/Network Unlock Help

Ok, I'm going to try to make a long story short, i hope that i've posted in the correct forum, I've been scouring this forum and others but nothing I've found has quite fixed my issue.
Got my S4 locked to Bell in Canada. Heard it was really easy to unlock [service menu *#0011# method] but once I got to Indonesia [for travel] expecting to be able to use my phone I found that the service menu was no longer available. Ok, no problem, there must be other ways;
I ended up paying for an unlock code from a site, it didn't work. In fact, immediately after I press 'unlock' it would say 'network unlock unsuccessful'.
I thought they gave me a faulty code but when the code I bought FROM Bell was the exact same one, and had the exact same problem I figured it was likely 'region locked'
I ended up flashing a stock rom with odin, one from a weird unlocking site, and eventually I got it working. The only problem was that whenever I'd go into screen lock I'd lose reception and have to airplane mode on and off to get it again.
After Indonesia I went to Turkey, was unable to connect at all with one of their service providers, but had no problems with Vodafone. I think this may have been a side effect of regionlock away app, I needed to use that as well.
Once I got back to Canada I went custom recovery with cwm and flashed Cyanogenmod. This was fine, no reception problems, 10.2 - 11 was all good.
NOW I am in Poland, and getting the same problem I had in the first place. Whatever Cyanogenmod did, re-locked my device, in some way, I'm guessing.
I'm now rooted, with TWP recovery, running Android 4.4.4 Dave GPE rom, and would REALLY like to be able to use my Polish sim card with this fantastic setup. Chainfire's regionlock away app does not work, gives me a CSC error message. My phone now says it's an i9505 instead of i337m
Anything I have overlooked? Any way I can get this fully unlocked and working the way I want it to?
*NOTE* I can't access *#0011# service menu, even though I flashed [i think] stock dialer.
You are not in the correct section
You need to be in this section.

I can help you a little though. If the unlocking methodes fail, then it's usually because you don't have an older modem. You need to look for the modem you should flash in order for it to work. Afterwards you can flash the modem again you are on now. If you can't find it, just flash an old modem and try.
I find it hard to believe that Cyanogenmod could have caused this though.
Cool, that will be my next phase of attack. I appreciate the redirect and thoughts (Y)

[Q] G900F won't make or receive calls

Hi
I have searched the forum beforehand and can't find a post with the same symptoms so...
I have just bought an S5 which will not make or receive calls or texts, although my mobile data works fine!
The guy I bought it from said he had it brand new and sealed, and used a Giff Gaff card for a few hours with no problems before the issue developed. I'm using Virgin. It was apparently from new, a Three network phone but did not appear to be locked to their network.... no unlock messages appeared when my SIM was inserted, it all appeared to work until I tried dialling!
I get a good signal and all the indicators are that the system is connected and functional, but when I dial any number the phone dials briefly then shows "Call ended". Texts just fail after a short while. Emergency calls work OK so the radio seems fine.
From the wonderful Phone Info app the following are installed:
Bootloader version: G900FXXU1BNL9
Baseband version: G900FXXU1BNL9
PDA version G900FXXU1BNL9
CSC version G900FH3G1BNL1
Product code: SM-G900FZBAH3G
I have tried the BOB7 BTU firmware via Odin and this worked ok but didn't fix the problem.
I also tried to downgrade to 4.4.2 with both the Three firmware and the ANG2 BTU firmware. Both just cause the phone to hang at the splash screen.
The serial number, IMEI number and the "refurbishment" check all show the phone as genuine.
Knox is still sitting nicely at 0x0.
Looking through the service menu settings nothing obviously jumps out as a problem but it does seem to be some sort of SIM lock.
Phone info shows the manufacturing date as 2015.01.03 so should be in warranty so I'm holding off rooting it as long as possible
I have scoured the internet and found a couple of others with the same problem but no helpful replies to their queries.
Any ideas anyone? Thanks guys
Try a Giff Gaff SIM in it, if that works, you have your answer
If you have upgraded from 4.4 to 5.09 through Odin as I did with mine which is Generic BTU the phone calls and texts would not work after the update so I did a factory reset then flashed the BTU firmware again did another factory reset and the phone has been fine ever since.
One of my friends got an S5 just before Christmas on 3 Network he was told by them that they no longer sim lock their phones how true this is I don't know but he tells me that's what the sales person told him, but he now has Generic BTU firmware on it not the original 3 firmware, he had to do a factory reset twice before his worked properly
So it may be worth trying bt flashing the BTU firmware again (BOB7) then doing a factory rest, flash the firmware again after that and factory reset once more then see if it works properly
Thanks for the quick replies.
I have flashed the BOB7 and BNL9 firmware several times with factory resets... no difference. I have also tried to downgrade from the original 5.0 to 4.4.2 (UK S5 didn't get 4.4.4 as far as I'm aware) but the phone hangs on the splash screen and I then can't boot into recovery.
I am waiting for a Giff Gaff SIM to try but tried my mate's contract Three SIM yesterday and again data was usable but no phone or texting. In fact it was worse than the Virgin SIM as it displayed no network whereas the all the Virgin info was there as it would be on a working phone.
I originally thought it was a faulty radio but as emergency calls work I have ruled this out.
One thing I've noticed is that in the Service menus there is sometimes the message to "Pease reboot" - an obvious typo but not something I would have thought Samsung would have overlooked. Maybe it's a dodgy clone. Anyway of knowing for sure?
One other thing that may or may not be relevant. In my working phones with the Virgin SIM, the Service menu shows the "Speech Ver" as "FR FR FR" as does the dodgy S5 when it has the Three SIM in it. When I put the Virgin SIM in the phone the "Speech Ver" changes to "AMR, EFR, FR". The "FR" I believe means "Full Range" so is that a contributing factor?
I've attached a screenshot of the phone menu with the Three SIM inserted.
Thanks for your help so far guys, it's much appreciated, this has me stumped.

Thanks for that mate, mine compares ok with yours, particularly the "About" status.
I have now tried 02, Three and Giff Gaff sims as well as my Virgin sim. Same problem, can use mobile data but no calls or texts.
reflashed 3 more times with a factory reset after each, same problem.

possible to unlock i9505 on ee via changing cfw ? btu uk

i all to everyone don't know if this is correct in putting this post here . I have a Samsung galaxy s4 i9505 locked to ee tried a ×#0011#. And tried the long number to enter service mode. I can change it to 1. But I don't get the other menu to pop up. I've had an idea. I have tried looking for this method and I'm 50/50 weather it will work or not. As this as phone has got ee branded phone. If I installed a custom firmware btu version black edition . What the chances of unlocking it via the method above or would this phone still know in it a ee phone what are your thoughts regards James. I don't want to root the phone. I'm quite happy to put a btu black edition on the phone . I have used odin in the past on my old i9505 but that phone was already unlocked
Changing firmware will not unlock the phone. To get the proper menu to appear you have to downgrade the modem (or firmware) to Android 4.2.2, then use the service menu. If the service menu does not work, your only other alternative is to root while the modem is downgraded and run RegionLock Away.

Many thanks for your reply. So if I down grade my firmware to 4.2.2 btu so I can enter the service menu . Are you saying this mite work 50/50
I did the downgrade myself when I lost my SIM unlock. The service menu worked but I messed up somewhere and failed to unlock. RegionLock Away worked perfectly.

Dont know if this will help you but after *#0011# press back then key input and type Q0 instead of 1. wait a few seconds and should take you to the menu.

Galaxy Note 4 SM-N910F Invalid SIM

I had been looking at this phone for a while on ebay and despite well... ebay... I had temporary lapse of good judgement and maybe a bit of alcohol and pulled the trigger.
I got the phone thinking it was a SM-N910F, everything I'd read said it would work on US AT&T sans some bands for LTE.
The phone came and it was in good condition. The box and the serial label behind the battery all say SM-N910F.
I turned the phone on, it has a beautiful screen, everything seems to work fine, works with wifi no problems, so far so good.
I turned it off, popped in my ATT SIM and turned back on and, uh oh, got an invalid SIM error.
Ok so next step, I go to the ATT store, they check the IMEI and confirm that yes it will work on their network and they give me a new SIM for good measure. Their new SIM still shows invalid in the phone and the sales guy is confused but then I tell him I got the phone off ebay and he gives me a look of pity. No problem though I wanted the international phone so I could learn about flashing ROMs and such without leaving me with a non-working brick and no communications device.
So I read through XDA posts and various tutorials over the web and try to find out why it's not accepting my SIM.
I flash TWRP, and root the phone, that worked fine.
Then I decide that maybe upgrading the firmware to Lollipop and flashing a new ROM might fix the problem. I go to Sammobile, download N910FXXU1BOB4_N910FOXA1BOB4_DBT because that seemed like a good one that would work. Then try flashing it via ODIN.
ODIN Fails, SECURE_CHECK_FAIL : aboot. Some more reading later I find out that usually happens because you're trying to flash the wrong thing.
So I dig further. I can still get into the stock kitkat software on the phone so I download *Samsung* Phone Info and check out what I've currently got on the phone, but now I'm totally confused because I don't know what to make of it and this is where I need some help.
I've got screenshots but due to being new I can't post a link, I can email them if they'll help.
Settings > Device Info shows SM-N910F with baseband of N910FXXU1ANK4... that looks right
but then I fire up Phone Info and it shows a phone model of SM-N910P which would be a Sprint CDMA phone? and a country CSC of CHN?
so this phone is truly international
European phone, Chinese CSC, with USA Sprint firmware?
Where do I even begin, can anyone suggest what I can do to untangle the mess?
Have you check the box "OEM unlocking" in the developer options menu? This allowed me to use Odin the first time on my tmobile note 4.
If you don't have a developer options menu in your settings, go to about device and press build number 7 times until it tells you you are now a developer.
try a European version BTU from sam i have the same model SM-N910F root is an issue i'm looking at.
as the SM-N910F is Euro i would use that firmware.
Hope it helps.
