[Q] Phone dialer won't run anymore

Hello all!
i'm new to the Droid X, but a long time windows mobile phone user. so, i'm a bit lost on trouble-shooting the android os.
my phone came with 2.3.151 installed. i overclocked with jrummy16's overclock program, rooted with z4root, and installed bootstrap recovery program. at this point in time....all was well. phone dialer application worked fine.
then...OTA upgrade to 2.3.340...everything i checked worked just as before upgrade. the only broken app was the phone dialer. when launched, the screen goes black for a second or two, then the home screen re-appears, and an alert sound is made. also, iin the task bar/title bar at the top of the screen, where the signal strength bars are displayed...this is replaced with a circle with a line through it (the "not" symbol).
fortunately for me, before the OTA upgrade, i had done a bootstrap backup. so when the dialer stopped working, i did a bootstrap recovery advanced restore and restored only the "system" from the 2.3.151 backup.
when it was done, again, everything i checked was working fine AND now the phone dialer application launches normal also.
i decided to experiment. i used bootstrap recovery to restore the "system" only from a 2.3.340 backup i had made immediately after the OTA upgrade. the phone dialer failed to work as i described above.
so, to fix this, i downloaded a dialer app from the "Market" and it works fine. so at this point i have no issue EXCEPT i want to know what happened to the phone dialer when the 2.3.340 upgrade is applied?????
has anyone else seen this behavior? does anyone have any ideas?
Marvin
UPDATE:
so after some experimenting, i have found the problem...i think. at least i can reproduce the problem and fix it 100% of the time.
it appears that 2.3.340 build.prop sets the lcd to 200. 2.3.151 sets it to 240.
i know this because i explored the Droid X/2 overclock utility's "extra" features and did the "get current LCD setting" and 240 was displayed in a text message.
when the OTA 2.3.340 was done, i ran the overclock utility and did a get current setting and 200 was displayed.
so, with .340 installed, and the phone dialer NOT working, i changed the lcd to 240, the phone rebooted, and yep-you guesssed it, the phone dialer app worked just fine. i reset the lcd to 200 and the dialer won't work.
i restored a 2.3.151 backup, ran the overclocker utility, set the lcd to 200 and the dialer won't work. reset it to 240, and it works.
seems to me that the OTA .340 broke the phone dialer by changing the lcd density. or is it just my phone?
has anyone else experienced this?
marvin
It is not just your phone. LCD density and the dialer are a known issue. If you keep up with the custom rom threads it is mentioned several times. You need to keep the LCD density set to stock.
If I understand you correctly though you are saying that you thought your setting were stock and wouldn't work?
I would search around the forums and see what the stock settings are. Just to let you know - my build prop says 240 for the lcd density and the dialer works.
hope that helps.
*edit I am pretty sure that 240 is stock and the .340 update build prop sets it to 240. I am not sure what happened in your case.

theme chooser themes + tablet mode..help?

So I just got my nexus 7 and installed a bunch of theme chooser themes but none seem to work.. any help would be appreciated
does your rom support the themechooser?
Let me guess the SystemUI is force closing?
If so you have to revert to the stock theme.. as well as the DPI and reboot. Once Rebooted apply the Tablet UI and reboot. Then once rebooted Apply one of the themes. They may or may not work. Or you could try setting the DPI to 320 (yes i know its giant) and applying the theme then revert back to tablet ui and reboot. its more than likely because the theme doesnt support MDPI which is the Tablet UI.

Note 3 SecSettings issue

Hi
I have an SM-N900.
Recently I changed a few stuff in the UI including the Settings menu. I was using the Settings menu from S5 by replacing the apk. Today I thought of reverting this. This is what I did :
1) Changed the existing apk to SecSettings.apk_S5 (as a backup)
2) And i changed the backup I had (SecSettings.apk.bak) to SecSettings.apk
Now, I assumed the permissions and all would be fine as it was being used earlier. I don't know if its the permissions that is causing the problem, but, after I rebooted the phone after making the above changes, my phone won't boot up. It is stuck at the Samsung logo...
What do i do ? Is there some way of flashing the settings apk (if i find the correct one) as a zip file from CWM ? or should i just flash a stock firmware ?
UPDATE :
I used Aroma file browser to revert these changes (that is go back to s5 settings) and the phone came up finally !!! Now the questions is, how do i go back to my stock settings ?

[q] failed to boot up after dpi change

I recently Rooted my i9505 stock 5.0.1 using CF auto root and it wetnt out pretty good. then i was going through the play store to find root only apps when i came to find Texdroider DPI app to change the dpi and then i installed it. it worked okay but then i tried it again and when i restarted the phone, it was stuck on boot animation. and i think its soft bricked i dont know what to do:crying:
WHAT SHOULD I DO?
The DPI change is made by editing the build.prop file. The simplest way to fix this is simply to reinstall your stock ROM using Odin, and to NOT use the DPI changing app.

CM13 Theme Engine icon not change

Sorry for my bad english, i'm italian,
i have bought a Nexus 6P yesterday anda i have unlock bootloader, install twrp, and flash the last official release of CM13 (20160819 i think)
it is all ok, but when i go to change theme, the icon dosn't change, change all (wallpaper, boot animation, menu graphic) the only icon that change is the drawer icon.
i try nova launcher, and the icon still remain the google stock even if i set "default" in nova.. but if i download an icon pack, i find it in nova and the icon change, and so isn't a problem of the gapps. the problem is in theme engine that not manage the icon.
i try to change only the icon in theme engine but nothing change. i try to flash older version of CM or gapps but nothing change.. someone can help me? i hate the stock icon and theme of google
