So I just got my nexus 7 and installed a bunch of theme chooser themes but none seem to work.. any help would be appreciated
does your rom support the themechooser?
Let me guess the SystemUI is force closing?
If so you have to revert to the stock theme.. as well as the DPI and reboot. Once Rebooted apply the Tablet UI and reboot. Then once rebooted Apply one of the themes. They may or may not work. Or you could try setting the DPI to 320 (yes i know its giant) and applying the theme then revert back to tablet ui and reboot. its more than likely because the theme doesnt support MDPI which is the Tablet UI.

Sorry for my bad english, i'm italian,
i have bought a Nexus 6P yesterday anda i have unlock bootloader, install twrp, and flash the last official release of CM13 (20160819 i think)
it is all ok, but when i go to change theme, the icon dosn't change, change all (wallpaper, boot animation, menu graphic) the only icon that change is the drawer icon.
i try nova launcher, and the icon still remain the google stock even if i set "default" in nova.. but if i download an icon pack, i find it in nova and the icon change, and so isn't a problem of the gapps. the problem is in theme engine that not manage the icon.
i try to change only the icon in theme engine but nothing change. i try to flash older version of CM or gapps but nothing change.. someone can help me? i hate the stock icon and theme of google
I'm looking for some expert input here, I've tried to make my own SystemUI with the Pixel navbar icons, just because I've bought a Nexus to do these things myself. But while it worked on my Nexus 6, I've modified the SystemUI.apk, replaced the stock and I have Pixel icons. It's running stock 7.0.
But on my 6P, when I replace the SystemUI.apk for the modified, then it just doesn't run, no SIM pin, no navbar, no lock screen. I say, okay, then copy the saved version back, then it FC-s. Luckily this time, I didn't need to factory reset it, like the previous time, I made a TWRP backup.
So could anybody tell me what I'm doing wrong? I used the latest apktool to unpack the SystemUI.apk, replaced the icons, then repackaged it. Just like on my Nexus 6.
I never thought this question would be this big a bite for people here. I was sure a lot of xda users already modded system apps, and worked for them. I'm stumped...
So i have rooted my phone and i used substratum with the swift black theme. Everything works perfectly.
HOWEVER
This is now the 2nd time i update my apps by mistake and i cannot open alot of them, amongst some are magisk module etc. Last time i tried to revert changes trough substratum app but that didnt work(couldnt start apps still) i tried uninstalling but the apps still remained dark and some could not be opened.
Can someone help me out what steps i should take, thanks in advance.
Edit: As i cannot remove my own thread i'll add the solution that finally helped me.
Go into TWRP, find the substratum folder and flash the substratum recovery legacy zip, wipe dalvik/cache and it was fixed.
Go to substratum, delete theme and install again, uncheck new apps until they will be supported by theme
Im using same theme
Only tested in MIUI 9 oreo could work with nougat too
If your phone stopped working after applying a theme making your system ui stop and a black lockscreen you can easily fix it by doing what i found out as i didn't see anything on it anywhere else
Requirements
-unlocked bootloader
-TWRP recovery installed
Reboot to recovery then open file manager in advanced window
Go to /data/system/theme
Then delete the files with app names that stops
Like
com.android.systemui
Then just reboot and you're done ?
Nice
thanks, i wish i read this befoe reformatting my phone because of a theme i applied that made EVERYTHING dark and unusable. Xiaomi does fantastic hardware but the software side is pure ass.
Also forcing you to use their app to change themes is so greedy, at least make it work.
Same Problem with Miui 8
Hello i got this problem when installing third party theme on my redmi 3s with miui 8. But i dont have twrp installed and dont have unlocked bootloader. Can you help me?
Hello guys! I have Zenfone 3 max zc520tl rooted with magisk, and xposed can Substratum work on my Zenfone 3 max zc520tl? Btw it's android 7.0 and who have a custom rom for this device? Thanks!
Yes, substratum would work but only for apps except system ui.
be a bit careful coz sometimes it may cause bootloop, but there are ways to recover it.
TIP- dont apply overlays for system ui, notification bar, QS tiles and system stuff

thanks for the reply! I tried 5 substratum themes some of them worked, some of them didn't I'm using modernui for substratum and it works great!. Dark notifications, settings, and rounded corners on recent apps.
