My S4 I9505 was on the latest official BTU firmware. I decided to flash the latest MF5 (NEE) firmware with Odin 3.07. No rooting or change to recovery.
I was slightly surprised to see About->Status showing "Device Status Custom" .
Is this normal now with the S4? Presumably it's because I flashed an NEE rom manually - so not a BTU rom?
Not that bothered just a little surprised/intrigued
I guess I could root and try triangle away? Maybe the next BTU update will fix it.

Its normal that it triggers Custom nothing new
Flashing Stock rom and reset after that will make it Official and ya u can root and use TA but since u have flashed official firmware mostly binary will be Zero only
As per what u know any Samsung Signed firmware wont increase Binary counter
Hi XDA friends, I have a N9005 with Singapore DXUGNH1 baseband/modem. Can I flash a old kitkat stock rom like NB3 or NA7 in Odin/TWRP? Are there any specific firmwares that I cannot flash to in kitkat? I heard that I can't flash back to NA7.
Thanks in advance!

If you have the new firmware while keeping the old bootloader, you still can fallback.
If you have the latest bootloader, in theory it may brick your device if you try to downgrade the firmware.
Just a few common info.

Can I just pick a 4.4.2 firmware from sammobile and use odin to flash it and successfully downgrade my lollipop to kitkat without encountering problems?

Hello
So I have a Note 3 SM-N900W8 in Canada that came with Android 4.3 (MJ1 Telus) . Wanting to try 4.4.2 I waited until a method that allowed downgrades came out (The Mexican NA2 method)
So I updated to the 4.4.2 NA2 ROM and then to X-Note 4.4.2 (no idea of version, just remember it was X-Note 4.4.2 and I'm still on NA2 leaked bootloader.) After using it for about a year I want out and want to downgrade back to MJ1 4.3 due to instability. I have a copy of the 4.3 MJ1 tar.md5 on a external drive.
So just to make sure without getting a brick. I just insert the 4.3 MJ1 tar.md5 from SamMobile in Odin, go into Download Mode and it will downgrade to 4.3 including the bootloader? Just confirming.
Thanks

Downgrading from stock 5.01 to stock 4.2.2 could have tripped knox and set the screen to say custom.

For the gt-i9505, I see no KK ROM, only 5.01 ROM: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/GT-I9505/
Where did you get the 4.2.2 ROM?
What do you see under settings, phone for baseband?

Not sure what you mean re KK ROM ...
I9505 5.0.1 Stock ROM is available here: "sammobile.com/firmwares/download/48665/I9505XXUHOF2_I9505AMNHOF1_AMN/"
" 2015-11-17 - 5.0.1 - I9505XXUHOF2"

From Phone: Baseband version: I9505DVUAMD8
KK = Kit Kat which is 4.4.2. My mistake because 4.2.2 is Jelly Bean.
I searched sammobile.com for the s4 gt-i9505 and only found firmware for the link in my post above. Following your link, I found the firmware.
As far as I know, Knox did not exist until the 4.3 firmware which leads me to believe that the bootloader on the phone is either 4.3, 4.4, or 5.01 while the modem is older than 4.3. This may be causing the problem. As a test. flash back to stock 5.01 to see if sound and wifi work.

I flashed back to 5.0.1 and Sound & WiFi now works again - what does that mean ?
How do I then Flash back to a Stock 4.2.2 ROM and have Sound & WiFi work after that ?
If it works on 5.01, then at least you know everything is working properly and the problem is the 4.2.2 rom.
i don't believe you can downgrade the bootloader to stock 4.2.2 which means you cannot run a stock 4.2.2 rom on the phone because the phone will have a bootloader that is not compatible with 4.2.2.

WT ??? Does that mean if you upgrade to Stock 5.0.1 you can NEVER downgrade back to Stock 4.2.2 ??
Yes, it certainly looks that way. On my i337m, I can flash back to stock 4.4.2 but nothing older.

Google you s^#(k !! how dodgy is that not allowing people to downgrade if there upgrades are crap!!
Is there another way ??
Can I downgrade back to 4.2.2 with another Bootloader or custom ROM ??
Would surprised if I am the only one in the world that wanted to downgrade and there was no known workaround ...
It has nothing to do with Google as it is Samsung that locks the bootloader.
If a phone could fully downgrade to a stock 4.2.2 rom, including the bootloader, I would not expect to see any references to Knox in download mode.
You could search but I have not seen any posts where an end user was able to downgrade the bootloader to a non-Knox version.

When you downgraded from 5.0.1 to 4.4.2 did you get any Know Issues OR Loss of Sound OR Loss of WiFi ?
Does the downgrade need to be a stock ROM ?
Knox was tripped from 0x0 to 0x1 but everything worked, probably because the everything went to 4.4.2, including the bootloader.
The downgrade does not have to be a stock ROM. Running a 4.3 or 4.4.2 custom ROM such as CM does not alter the bootloader or modem.

Does that mean I can downgrade from Stock 5.0.1 all the way down to Stock 4.3 with no issues except Knox tripped to 0x1 ?
Or does it have to be a customer ROM to have no issues ?
I have never used custom ROM's only Stock ROM's
Some bootloaders can be downgraded to 4.1.1 like I did with my note 2 but the s3 can't be downgraded at all. I think the s4 is limited to 4.4.2 .
Downgrade i9505 to 4.4.2
I downgraded my galaxy s4 i9505 from 5.0.1 to 4.4.2 and knox flag was not tripped.I think it will be tripped only if you flash bootloader without knox.Maybe if you don't care of knox flag and want to run android 4.2.2 you must flash kitkat modem to have working wifi..
Hello mr. Marduj5
I'm also a Galaxy S4 user and want to install stock 4.2.2. I did everything you said... but the only problem now is the microphone and the speakers don't work after flashing Kitkat modem. I had the Connections but the media is now the problem. Thanks for the help...
