My S4 I9505 was on the latest official BTU firmware. I decided to flash the latest MF5 (NEE) firmware with Odin 3.07. No rooting or change to recovery.
I was slightly surprised to see About->Status showing "Device Status Custom" .
Is this normal now with the S4? Presumably it's because I flashed an NEE rom manually - so not a BTU rom?
Not that bothered just a little surprised/intrigued
I guess I could root and try triangle away? Maybe the next BTU update will fix it.

Its normal that it triggers Custom nothing new
Flashing Stock rom and reset after that will make it Official and ya u can root and use TA but since u have flashed official firmware mostly binary will be Zero only
As per what u know any Samsung Signed firmware wont increase Binary counter

To flash cross regional fimrware you need to change you CSC code.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2491877
Also if you flash MJ3 build then your bootloader will be upgraded and you have to stay will MJ3 firmware, you cant then downgrade back to MJ1 firmware

any luck anyone? still getin ext4 error
I want to know this as well. I have Malaysian fw on my phone but I want to switch to BTU. According to what I have read this should work because my current region is XX, however I have seen way too many people getting this ext4 error for me to try it.
Can someone give a definitive answer? I am on MJ3 with a region of XX. Thanks!

How did you flash it to void warranty?
sorry to hijack
but what does BTU stand for?
and what's the two letters before MJ7?
like UBMJ7, what's UB?

CSC code for UK (no carrier) = BTU.
Revision of Android - MJ7, latest version released as of yet...
Not sure about the rest but it appears regional...
Flashed it after running through RDLV but had issues with WIFI and sd card... Flashed extracted modem from MJ6 rom, this sent me into a bootloop. Flashed stock MJ6 rom onto phone and fixed the bootloop but put new bootloaders on. At this point warranty void was 0x0. Tried Kingoapp to root hoping it wouldn't trip counter, it did...
New bootloaders are a mongrel....

Stay away from Kingo/vroot, xda has removed all links and closed the thread. It's full of malware / spyware and will send all personal details to a Chinese Web server.

just changed my firmware from xme to btu
just follow these from the s4 forum by kaushalls but use odin 3.04 and be patient it may fail for two time but will eventually will do it and run odin in normal mode not administrator mode
Make sure you take a backup via Kies if you need personal files
Download the respective stock ROMS from sammobile.com or samsung-updates.com or see thread on Stock Roms on XDA
Extract zip to get tar.md5
Put device into download mode (Vol down+ Home + Power) and Flash using Odin (PDA option)
Wait till device reboots back into Android after completing the flash and recovery
Once device reboots, do a Factory Reset via back up and reset option
Once device reboots after Factory Reset/recovery, enter the google account info and restore settings and then turn off the device
and restart (go into recovery and see the csc btu being applied if yes then stop here,do factory reset and restart)
after this the next steps are optional
Boot device back into download mode (Vol down+ Home + Power)
Re-flash the same downloaded firmware for a second time via Odin
Once the device reboots after the 2nd flash, your CSC should have changed to the CSC of the ROM you downloaded, and Kies also should show that CSC has changed and it should allow future updates via Kies or OTA
check csc by going to stock recoverry it will show manual mode at the bottom and then show btu csc applied

What will happen if i flash a device which has Russia's(or Other Countries) 4.3 ROM , with India's 4.3 ROM? Will it set the KNOX warranty Bit flag.
I bought my phone in India. After i started using Omega ROM which has MG9 modem, i was never able to switch back to Indian Stock 4.2.2 which had MG5 modem, as in MG5 modem i was getting a generic IMEI and the network was not working. So i settled for using the KSA 4.2.2 ROM which has MG9 modem, hoping someday India ROM will get MG9 or higher. My device still shows the Official Status in the Download Mode.
My big problem now i how do i get back to Indian Firmware without voiding the Know warranty. Can i wait for 4.3 to release in KSA and then flash back India's 4.3 so that i dont face the IMEI problem with the ROM's? If i do this will it void the Knox warranty?
Or flash the MG5 ROM of India and get the official 4.3 India update? will this solve my IMEI issue?
I also heard that there is a binary counter for the number of times a Custom ROM is flashed. If we upgrade to 4.3 with non-zero binary counter will the KNOX warranty void flag?

Incase u hvnt installed 4.3 yet -
Oky, heres what u do: revert back to stock 4.2.2 android, then go to software update, (it will b good if u use triange away and remove the no.) and u shud receive update for indian firmware, since bootloader is installed later u wont loose ur warranty(when u will install it for first time the warranty bit says 0 ..)
I installed 4.3 russian fw by mistake and since my warranty bit was 0 samsung installed indian firmware on my phone(had to fight a lil tho ..)
Dnt do anything after flashing 4.3 for first time, since whatever u do will trip a flag, thus voiding the warranty ... i had isssues getting my phone fixed even at warranty bit 0 ..
Hope that helped ...
First reverted back to India MG5 4.2.2 ROM and then did 4.3 update through kies and everything went fine.
Now my fake imei problem is gone and I am back under warranty
Thanks for the help

Hi,
You said that you used OMEGA rom. It means you rooted your phone and installed CWM recovery. Now you installed I9500XWUBMG5 4.2.2 stock rom and updated to stock 4.3 via KIES or OTA. My question is now your KNOX warranty is 0x0 or 0x1.
Could you please confirm I want root my phone.
Thanks.
What will happen if i install russian 5.1.1 to my indian galaxy note 3 neo
hello guys any one here i had flash indian firmware were few days ago bt now i want to back to nepal firmware ...my device is j7 2016 model plz help me to go back to nepal firmware again
@rohit gurung: The forums for your device are here. To install the Nepal firmware you need to download it from a site like Sammobile and flash it to the device just like you flashed the Indian firmware.
Dear Friends,
I'm using N9005 on this N9005XXUBMJ1 firmware and trying to flash to the newer firmware from other region N9005ZHUDMJ8.
However, I've been getting an error "ext4 img" in ODIN and now my phone cannot boot and stuck on the download mode. So I decided to flash it back to its previous version N9005XXUBMJ1 but still not success and stuck on the same loop.
I have tried doing the emergency recovery from KIES, but having another error "[about] Fused 2 > Binary 1" (on the following screenshot)
Can anybody help me on this problem? I really like the phone and I really need it back.
Thank you
I just solved the problem by myself, it seems that there is a problem with the bootloader on the MJ8 version or something, so I use the MJ6 BTU firmware instead and it works. phewww
Having the same problem...which firmware is MJ6 BTU?
TIA

I think MJ8 is from Hongkong 16GB Model.
Either way the knox warranty void has been triggered. You also have the new bootloader meaning recovery through Kies won't work until your country gets the new bootloader stock.. You are essentially stuck using another countries rom now until your coutry/carrier upgrades their firmware with the new bootloader...
Forget Kies recovery working if things go wrong...

To answer my own question, this is the BTU (United Kingdom) firmware file that saved my otherwise bricked phone which got the MJ8 HK bootloader:

It should be possible, but might fail, so in any case make sure you download both the latest Hong Kong firmware (MK1) and the MJ7 BTU firmware just in case it fails you can flash MK1 on top and your device supposed to work fine.
Today is the time of Marshmallow and I am still in kitkat. I dont mean I want marshmallow but atleast I am waiting for lollipop in my GT-I9505 of baseband #XXUGNH6.. I know there is several lollipop for baseband I9505XXUPOL1 but still #XXUGNH6 don't have.. And other thing I dont want lollipop from any other custom rom!
-Thank you!
Have you tried manually checking for the OTA?
You could also try flashing it with Odin. This will not trip knox or affect flash counter.
Are u sure?
Flashing stock firmware via Odin will not trip Knox unless you are trying to downgrade.
I got a UAE S7 edge off of amazon about a week ago. Not rooted, running latest OS nougat version available. CSC code is XSG. I just can't get Samsung Pay working on it though. I read from a few places that it is possible to install the framework and samsung pay apk's. I installed the version 2.7.38 framework. I first tried the 2.6.00 version of the Samsung Pay app, but had no luck as I couldn't get past the first screen. I then tried 2.7.46. It managed to load in, but failed because I don't have a Korean sim card in my phone? Can someone please explain to me what I'm screwing up? Or if I can somehow disable this pop-up?
Download XSA (Australia) firmware and flash it in Odin, Australian firmware has it preloaded and working. XSA also has Nougat so you're good.

Will flashing it trip the Knox? I remember rooting/flashing roms into my old note 5 and tripping the Knox that way.

If you flash firmware directly from Samsung then no, since the firmware is official and signed by Samsung. If you flash anything Custom such as a custom ROM or Kernel, then yes.
Just download the firmware from Sammobile (Ofiicial Samsung) and flash it via Odin. Knox will not trip.
