had this as well, a SHUTDOWN and then battery pull helped.
also have seen mention of "force stops" triggering this, advice was to not force stop anything for a while and see if it triggers again.

Mine has been doing the same ever since the kitkat update.
I am running an unrooted EE note 3 (n9005) in the UK.
Gsiff_daemon is constantly my top battery drainer according to the battery app (35% - 47%).
I have not been able to find any consistent method to either activate this rogue app or to get rid of it.
Is there any solution without rooting it as I understand that renaming it should do the trick?

Usually the problem is when you soft reboot.
It was reported somewhere that it is the GPS sensor daemon, but disabling it did not show any adverse effects for me.
Get a root file explorer and remove it/rename it to .bak

Thank you.

gsiff_daemon fix.
Hello all. I just posted this on another thread so i will copy and paste to save doing it all again.
*No root required*
Hey
This worked for me.
In settings and the application manager, under the 'All' tab. I found a program called 'unified daemon(EUR)'
I tapped on it and disabled it.
The gsiff_daemon has since not appeared on battery usage.
I also set Power saving mode and changed Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep, to never, in the advanced wifi settings. Select wifi option in settings then press menu tab and select advaadvancednced to find the option. This turns off wifi when it's not in use and automatically turns on when you turn off lock screen.
my battery has more than doubled.
Hope it works for you too.

In my informal testing I found that gsiff_daemon is somehow related to S Health (somehow keeps the sensors awake even if you're not using the phone). I disabled S Health and SensorService and the problem went away. Easier for us unrooted types.

Solved!

You nailed it!
This just started happening to me a few days ago, when S Health was updated. I have disabled S Health and presto! Problem solved.
Thanks!

SERIOUS Battery drain here
PROBLEM:
About three weeks ago I started to experience serious battery drain. This is a significant difference in daily results compared to a month ago. Now, three weeks into it I am having to put my phone into ultra power save mode on a daily basis just to be able to function as I am getting 1-3 hours of use out of my phone at this point. The problem has gotten progressively worse, as time has progressed over the last three weeks. Today seems to be the worst with me LOOSING battery charge while it is plugged in, and not in ultra saving power mode, (My phone is loosing 1% about every 10 minutes) and only having about 10 minutes of expected battery time LOL.
ENVIRONMENT:
Today is 1/8/14
I have a T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S5 (G9000T). I have had it for about 8-9 months, got it brand new (was replaced once 4 months into using it because of broken camera), but this is my second GS5 phone.
I am using Android software version 4.4.2
TROUBLESHOOTING:
Only app added in the last 3 weeks was HeyTell, which was about the time this problem started. Force stopping the app actually helped for about a day or two until the problem resurfaced. Finally deleting the app last week did no good.
Talking to T-Mobile, they recommended testing my gyro sensor.
Go to call screen and dial *#0*# and I get a test screen.
I pressed sensor and then test gyro. It failed. They recommended a master reset. DAMN, I HATE doing that. So much time to get it back to where I want it.... SOOOO many notes on how to set the phone back up LOL.
RESOLUTION:
I did a master reset today 2/9/15. They gyro is still showing a failure, so they are replacing the phone.

Same issue samsung s5 duos
Hello,
I had the same issue of the battery being used quickly by the gsiff daemon.
Thanks for your details of what this application is.
For the solution, I did a few soft restarts, a hard restart and activated the light power saving mode. After 2 days my phoned worked fine.
Don't have any more information.

How to stop gsiff_daemon?
1. Hot reboot your Samsung Android
2. Rename gsiff_daemon
3. Disable apps using gyroscope sensors

[Q] I'm using a Octa-Core Galaxy S4, ramdonly heats up and Battery Drain from "Media"
Hi, im currently using the galaxy sy i9500, and it was great for a first few days. Then started around 3 days ago, BAtrery started draining very fast, and my phone would randomly heats up, i can feel it from my pocket. And my bettery would go from 70% to like 50% in and hour without doing anything with it. i Disabled all the features, air view, smart scorll etc etc. I even enable the power saver mode which did not help at all. Anyone have an idea on whats going on? (see pics)
You are not the only one experiencing such problems.
1st of all make sure you have updated to latest software version. Then try to disable from the app manager: Samsung push, samsung apps along with google music play service (media has been draining your battery the most)
Are you also experiencing lag and difficult camera access?
If none of those worked maybe try to do a factory data reset or try flashing a stock firmware via ODIN.

HELP ! My Galaxy S4 keep restarting !!!

I bought S4 2 months ago. Recently, it keep restarting and restarting. The battery go down from 50% to 0% when it restart. Anyone know how to fix this issue ?
Same thing over here
My S4 acted that way also.
It happened when I took burst pictures and then touch the little photo icon in the corner to see the captured images.
The phone restarted at 0% battery and got into restart loop.
Only removing the battery for a few seconds could stop this loop.
Now, I reinstalled a new ROM.
Hope it works.
Try install new recovery+ROM
There are many ways to try to fix this issue start from the least expensive :
- disconnect wireless
- remove sd card
- remove the battery and the sim card and reinsert them
- check if your battery is swollen and replace it if so
- try a factory reset
- if you have a custom rom try stock rom
good luck

Getting the same-ish problems. Phone is rebooting like mad, doesn't matter what ROM I have installed at all. Not sure if it's an issue with my battery but it seems that it could be a voltage/current issue that causes the phone to die for just long enough. As everyone knows if you pull the battery out whilst the phone is on, then put it back in after a second or two, the phone tries to reboot without you ever having pressed the power button
I just got 2 new batteries. Gotta wait about a week for them to come. Gonna do some testing, see if it stops the issues. If not, then it's a hardware issue and I'm gonna see if I can get it replaced under warranty.
How to use logcat
My problem seems to be different compared to the others in this thread, but don't want to start a new thread. Currently my S4 is lying in the office all week, because I use another phone, when I am outside of the office. It's equiped with pre-rooted MGA, but I also tried various other ROM's, with different ways of flashing e.g. CWM, Odin etc. also no wipe/full wipe. The problem is that as soon, as I take the phone away from the office, I have several restarts a day, which is never happen in the office. This is strange!
My thoughts are, that some app is responsible.
questions:
- can I find out in using logcat? / How to use logcat?
- There is a description to boot the phone into safe mode http://skp.samsungcsportal.com/integrated/popup/FaqDetailPopup3.jsp?cdsite=my&seq=871239. It's not working for me. Has anybody tried that?
- Any other ideas?

I believe that goes in the right direction, but turning off GPS did not help. But I think it must have to do with location, sometimes it is stable the whole day (same as in the office) sometimes 2-3 reboots, one after the other.
Must be an app, but how to find?

[Q] Google Keep extreme battery consumption

Hello guys,
I let my Nexus 4 charging, and when it was done, I removed the charging cable and just let it on my table. I was watching a movie and I didn't even touched the phone.
When I unlocked the phone, my battery was showing 93% with only 2h after disconnecting the charger, and the app with most battery consuption is Google Keep
I've attached a screenshot.
And also I've noticed that my device is hotter. And I can't uninstall Google Keep (I use Evernote and Springpad instead of Keep), I think it's a built in app in the Android 4.3
My Nexus 4 is 4.3 with Stock ROM and Kernel.
Anyone knows what is going on?
Thanks!

Yes you can uninstall Google keep if you are rooted. If you dont want to root just try rebooting and if you find this problem still persisting make a factory reset.

If you are not rooted and you don't use Keep you can go to

Thank you! This solved my problem, first I've uninstalled all the updates of Google Keep, and it already fixed the problem, and then I've disabled it just to be sure Looks like some newer updates of Keep are bugged in some devices
I know your issue has been resolved by disabling the app, but looking at your first screenshot it could have been a sync issue. Your screenshot showed no data connection so Keep may have been trying to sync in the background and keeping your phone awake since there was no connection.

N9005 self restarted

I don't know what is wrong with my Note3 N9005 it restarted by itself without any reason. It happened twice in this week already. I have been using it since the beginning of March bought it brand new on ebay.
The current FW is 4.42. I am suspected the cause is the apps I dowloaded but just don't know which one. Does any one have any ideas?

Hi.
I had same problem - even 2-3 restarts per day. In my case, someone of these apps caused problem (i installed them every time I wipe phone or install firmware, doesn't matter custom or stock).
1. Timely
2. Facebook
3. Facebook Messenger
4. Mx player
5. Plantronics hub
6. Cyberon Voice Commander Pl
Since few days I'm on stock XUENC2 ETL firmware, and I only upgraded stock apps and istalled shazam. In next few days i try to install Cyberon.
I think mx player could be the culprit. I say this because I have 3 different players on my phone. Every now and again when I use them my phone goes into spasm!
It stops paying anything, I lose all sounds then gradually I lose the ability to use my phone until I restart it.
I've had it Sent to Samsung but it returned with same problem.
I now only use one player and as yet it's not done it since. .

Uninstall all apps you installed just before it started? And then re-add them one by one until it starts rebooting again. Then you'll know which.

I am gonna try it. My phone restarted again today and it was sitting inside my belt case I heard the restarting sound, So it was self restarted even it was not in use, wow!
My previous phone was a China made ZOPO ZP990 before that was OPPO Find 5 both didn't do self restart like this and both are cheaper than Note 3 but the Note 3's been giving me the self restarting, lagging even hangs like a computer a few times. I think I should email Samsung and see what they say. Thank you for your idea tho.

I have many posts about this device rebooting randomly and freezing. I believe the problem is the RAM. You see, I don't suffer from this problem anymore, not by unchecking this and removing that or by factory resetting but because I have my phone set to "noop" and "performance" [300-2265] in SetCPU. I did this so that the RAM doesn't really get a chance to "keep" a process running for too long. It forces the phone to do what is has to immediately and with all the necessary processing power is can muster.
Battery life? I get 20+ hours comfortably unless the screen brightness is set too high, which is a "duh" in my opinion.
If you do a search for "freezing" or "random reboots" you will see that you aren' alone.
Sorry for writing it another time, but from my experience, this and other topics with freeze and restart problem, are hard to find.
After few months of crashing, and restarting, I send my Note to service center on warranty with knox 0x1. They changed mainboard. Currently testing, but it seems to be ok right now.
Freeze and rebots, restarts of Note 3 have to be HARDWARE FAILURE
I tired everything, diffrent roms, setcpu settings, with no success.

That's because of the app . Uninstall apps or rest phone you may see the difference. Its because of app not compatible with OS it may cause this type of problems.

Teah that's the very problem even i have experienced the very same problem once my phone automatically shutsdown then the Moto people told me tonenter phone into safe mode and check again that's because od 3rd party apps like ram cleaners etc.
If the app is in the app store it is certified to run without damaging your phone. If you installed an APK manually you run the risk of issues. Best bet is to do a factory reset and see if it solves the issue. If it doesn't like me I sent it in for free repair of the battery and havent had issues since.

I sold the phone
----Fix is at the end----
It's been happening to me. My moto G4 plus would shut down when I had the brightness on max, recorded video, played loud audio, had incoming calls, etc.
I investigated a lot and everything pointed towards the battery. But the battery charged fine and lasted fine, and with the charger connected it would not happen. Tried recalibrating it but it didn't work. Then I downloaded an app which would show me the battery voltage in realtime. So I did some more tests. I tried doing power intensive things (flashlight, video, etc) and checking the voltage. When I was doing something power-hungry the voltage would drop to 3.2-3.1 volts, and then slowly rise up, which indicated the battery could not deliver too much current rapidly.
So I tought of two possibilities, the battery could be faulty, or the contacts were loose/dirty. And I did the easy/cheap fix to see if it worked, I just disconnected and reconnected the battery connector, and it worked like a charm, no more shutting down out of nowhere, even at 10% battery and with power intentive tasks.
TL;DR: If it happens to you, remove the battery connector and reattach it again. It worked for me. If it doesn't, replace the battery.

The only solution to this problem is to remove the battery connector and then press the power button for 10 seconds and then connect the battery connector.
