find the zip versions of all the recoveries you may need and keep them on your SD card. Flash alternate recovery zip in recovery and reboot recovery then flash as instructed.
Interesting i might try to see about buildings one for all. Thanks

Just my experience.. Philz has been awesome for me. Even the few ROMs I've tried that stated you must use TWRP, Philz had o issues with at all.
Also Phil is constantly updating and helping people out who need it so just an all around good recovery to have in my opinion.
And you can theme the heck out of it if you wanted as well.

I may try to compile a list of ROMs that can be flashed safety with each recovery so if you don't won't to wipe everything and Odin them over and over again when trying different roms

I have found that the recovery one uses to be a matter of preference. Personally I like the interface of TWRP the best. It works for me and I have not had any problems down loading any rom, zip or apk files using TWRP. It also has a great backup routine. So there is my two cents worth. Go to each recovery web site, look at the features of each recovery, read, and then read some more and make a choice. I don't think you can go wrong with any of them - its a matter of a Ford, a Chevy or a Toyota etc.

Recoveries are like asking whether you should buy a Ford, Chevy or Toyota. They are all good cars and sometimes it comes down to a matter of preference. I personally like TWRP. I love the easy to use interface and I have never had any problems loading roms, apk's, zips or any other doc's. plus it has a sweet backup program. It is flawless. There you go.
Nice to know may try out twrp

Absolutely. The bootloader is unlocked therefore you can flash any kernel (I9505), any roms, modems, firmwares without any worries. However I dont think the I9505 supports at&t's LTE but I may be wrong so dont quote me on that.

Yes you can. BUT ( and this is very important), you need to flash Ktoonez kernel ( from the ATT forum) right before rebooting ( when youre done flashing omega its going to prompt you to reboot, make sure you uncheck reboot to go back to TWRP or CWM and then flash the kernel. We have to do this because the ATT S4 has a locked bootloader and uses a bypass called Loki. We need a Loki'd kernel in order to have roms from the I9505 to work properly on our phones.

Thanks for all the info. So I only need a loki'd kernel for 9505 roms. What about when flashing the I337 roms? The stock kernel dont have to be loki'd considering I already bypassed it when I rooted with Casual loki+motochopper?

Every rom that you flash must be flashed with loki-doki afterwards unless the rom itself is already Loki'd. You'll in each rom thread whether it is loki'd or not. If it is then you're fine just flashing the rom, if it isn't then you must flash loki-doki. Here it is
http://tau.shadowchild.nl/files/loki-doki.zip
Make sure you read the installation for each and every rom and don't hesitate to ask in the thread itself if you're confused

Easier said than done... You fail to mention: Unless your app has bug fixes 4.4.2 will cause issues and not to do a full restore. Also you led us to believe you can restore to 4.2.2 or 4.2.1 from 4.4.2. Only the apps you can do so, unless they are OEM specific and are only made for 4.4.2.

actually I didn't fail to mention anything...i did a full normal full wipe of 4.4.2 after I Odin flashed it, rooted and Odin flashed recovery then a normal full restore of 4.2.2 system apps kernel the whole deal.....even my custom kernel restored back fine dude just as I said with zero issues...and to be clear I never once mentioned 4.1 did I? You said 4.1 stop putting words in my mouth....if there had been issues I would've mentioned it...all my apps and root were in tact and those I greenified were still hibernating, even my Wanam them came back dude.....my 4.2.2 rom and apps restored flawlessly so I'd appreciate you not put words in my mouth again thanks
Mega
Dude your apps have nothing to do with anything...all apps that you had on 4.4 get wiped if you do a proper wipe then your 4.2 apps restore with the rest of the system and data apps partition if you backed them up so maybe if you knew what you were talking about you wouldn't be trying to call me out mistakenly
Whoa whoa whoa children please stop where you are right now. Let me clarify some things...
Yes, you can restore 4.2.2 using Odin to flash the stock tar file.
No, the bootloader WILL NOT be rolled back, once you have a Knox bootloader there is no going back unless you have the equipment and resources to basically JTAG your device to perform a NAND flash of the original bootloader to the device's eMMC controller. This will wipe your entire eMMC which is your internal storage so you will lose everything.

You can definitely flash the stock 4.2.2 tar file using Odin 3.07 without any problems. I suggest wiping data and cache first.
You should also be able to flash any custom ROM using a custom recovery such as PhilZ CWM and perform a restoration of any backup without any problems other than Knox counter being tripped.

I've only used stock and the FlexNote 4.4.2 ROM from @civato since upgrading to KitKat but I think some users have experienced issues with charging when the 4.4.2 bootloader is installed in combination with a 4.2.x ROM.
The 4.2.x ROM still works but there may be a few glitches elsewhere.

OK after trying a couple of ROMs and failing miserably and having to reload the stock Firmeware a couple of time i am getting tired of this. Maybe it's me, maybe i'm stupid all of a sudden...
So Canadian owners of the S5 W8 what Roms are you using successful ? And how did you do it.
I know it was discussed before and the consensus was that a separate W8 Canadian section was not needed due to it's compatibility with the F version, but i think it is, maybe it's just me....

I heard Omega is good ????
Is anyone else getting a persistent voicemail notification? I'm on the Rogers variant and some Googling has indicated that people using the AT&T/Sprint versions had the same issue. I'm on the latest update but this is still happening.

I know this is old but I happen to be playing with an s5 from bell right now. I'm on ressurection remix nougat and lineage os 14.1 nougat works as well. Flash cf root with Odin. Flash a custom recovery, I use TWRP. Go to the ressurection site and get the ROM, for you it will be klte. Reboot into recovery, wipe the phone, install ressurection remix. You also want the magisk 12.0 zip and manager APK. That's pretty much it. Custom rooted ROM running a lineage kernel. If you aren't familiar with lineage it's where the cyangoen team went. MIUI ROM works too but it's a slow download for not much reward. I've loaded lots of others but they require tweaks and fixes for things and I don't want you to need more help after the fact. Stick with one of the two I listed for the s5 and you will be ok. Also remember KLTE ROM. And as for how I'm on two roms that's a whole other story and probably not something you need to do.

I'm doing the same with my SM-900W8, but I'm finding the Camera app (in RR keeps crashing). I have no issues when I use the stock rom. The camera is the only problem I'm finding. It freezes (sometimes after the first couple photos) and then reboots. Are you having this issue? Likely not. Don't know if I'm missing something.

Download this. It's a different kernel. It fixes the bug.

Flash it from recovery.

Does it apply to Bell model as well using the same firmware?
Mind you I337MVLUFNI2 is 4.4.2, is that still ok, or do we need safestrap?

Thanks, that works for Canadian i377m with 4.4.2. Any recommendation of a stable ROM? Does the 'fringe' features(thermo meter, ir blaster, etc.) of the s4 work on non touch wiz roms like cm or aosp?
Only ir works and with certain apps

I would say stick with tw if you use the tw features try @iB4STi tw Roms with @Alucard24 touchwiz kernel what I used for the longest time using cm12 unofficial ATM but if you don't care about tw features then liquid smooth, carbon rom

Thanks! One last question, I think.
The up to date ROMs here are mostly for safestrap, if it doesn't specify that it works for our phone (bell s4) I probably should not flash it?
Some do say it can be flashed with non-safestrap(twrp) but we need to flash our carriers kernel after.
How can we make a back up of it (the kernel that I have on my phone right now) and make it flashable from twrp?
Thanks again!!
You can't or at least I don't know how... But there are touch wiz kernel that will work alucard or ktoonsez have best kernel for our phone @s3nr1
Also check in 19505 s4 thread thats where I find all my Roms that are aosp for touch wiz look in i337m/att s4 section.
