*PROOF* Japan Xperia Z screen is better than Global version

my xperia z has a fantastic screen. maybe some of these global units have bad screens but mine doesn't and I'm perfectly happy with it. :good:

Well my screen is just perfect and fed up with all the negatives, this screen this, that screen that, battery is **** etc, etc.

Yea right! Nice "proof" . Didn't you see the REAL proof already in this very forum? Japanese and Intl Z have the SAME screen.

Once again, the diffence is the UI! One version had an "all black" UI and the other "grey-ish" (don't now why Sony did this btw). Also keep in mind that te screensettings could be slightly diffent (max brightness and auto brightness etc) and ofcourse the viewing angle seen from the camera. But hey, if you believe it's different ... sell yours and buy a Japanese one

lol.....the reason why i posted this was because i disputed the other "proof"

I don't think so. Yes there were some Zs with poor screens but most retail units have great screens, exactly similar to Japanese units. Otherwise you would have had way more replies here from actual owners. But you see, almost all owners are happy with the screen quality.
So stop worrying for nothing

While the Xperia Z screen indeed is not as good as HTC's SuperLCD technology, it's still really awesome for everyday use. Had the Xperia Z for a week now, and so far me and my friends have ZERO complains about the screen.

Docomo version is always closest to the camera even when the phones switch places the camera switches as well. The same movie is posted dozens of times already it is not proof just because a blog reads xda and decides to post it on the blog.

This is just sad from SONY..Treating its customers differently..IPS panels for japan only..why not see ur phones in japan only?? Ridiculous!!

Dude, did you even go through user reviews and the new videos of retail Z on Youtube ? I mean just don't post anything without analyzing. Japan and Intl Z have same screens. A small batch of Z (mostly non retail) have poor screens doesn't mean you draw out silly conclusions
If you were right, we should have had 10 threads already of owners complaining about poor quality screens. But how many threads are here where an actual owner has claimed the screen is poor ? ZERO.

The videos proved it. The reviews proved it as well. Gsmarena is proving it. And sony is proving it by making an ips display for their japanese phones. The xperia z display is absolute **** for a flagship phone. For any nonbudget phone in fact. The delusions are running super high in the xperia z forum, culminating in the constant trolling from users with literally "fanboy" written in their username.

That being said it is save to say that both the HTC One and dna have a better screen
I find it better than s3 and one x tough

My screen is amazing. I prefer it to my note 1 screen by far! I don't see what all the fuss is about?

Looking to swap Xperia Z for HTC ONE

I have had my Sony Xperia z for over a week now. I have been so impressed with the phone, it's speed, interface etc. The sound could be better but overall it's hard to complain. Defiantly the best phone I've owned.
Vodafone have kindly aloud me to trade my Xperia for the new HTC ONE at no cost or anything, straight swap. I know of HTC's recent poor history. My friends and family have had old HTC's (2/3 year old models) and they have been extremely poor in terms of reliability.
Just looking some opinions on the phones. I have read and watched many reviews on both phones and the HTC almost always comes out on top on each categorie (design, speed etc)
Considering it's a straight swap is it worth it and why. I'm a heavy phone user and I understand that phones with specs as close as these two are to each other that the differences is down to opinion. But would like some more expect (better knowledge or HTC ONE user help)

All what I know about HTC that I had evo 3d before and it was really bad.
But my brother now have HTC one x, and it is fantastic.

The phones are near enough identical really, both premium high quality designs, really comes down to whether you want water proofing or ultrapixel. Lots of my friends have had HTCs and really hated the reliability and software support whereas Sony is markedly mote developer friendly.

Its simple...Aluminium vs glass, Ultrapixels vs megapixels, 4.7 vs 5. These are the main differentiating factors that really matter..real world performances have reached a saturaioon point now and even S3 feels smooth. Your Choice!

I think I will choice htc one in many aspect.Good viewing angle screen,good speaker ,greater performance and other else（sorry for my bad English）.

It really isn't, the Ultrapixel camera still has a megapixel count.
1 Megapixel is 1 Million pixels.
1 Ultrapixel is 1 Pixel.
an Ultrapixel is just a much larger pixel, the HTC One is about 4Megapixels, those 4Million pixels have a much larger size than the 13.1 million pixels the XZ has.
The total pixel surface area for HTC Ones camera is approx. 16mm^2 where the Exmor RS at 13.1Megapixel is approx 16.4mm^2

Specs and Reviews are better in case of HTC one. Its hard to say about the reliability though as its been released in very few markets.

The viewing angles issue is forever popping up. But seriously anyone that views there phone side on is in need of help.

In my mind there is no doubt. I simply love the XZ.
It has totally blown me away with it's speed and the screen, in my opinion, is awesome.
And im amazed about how long the battery actually lasts.
The HTC One is a nice phone, no doubt, its quite a beautiful phone, but so is the XZ. Design wise its a question of do you prefer glass or aluminium.
HTC is really proud about their speakers, but in reality, i would never use them, i always use a headset.
And their camera, i've seen pictures from it, and im not at all impressed.
So im sticking with my XZ.

Even S2 is still good for normal use. In the end it boils down to user experience. But for me, either phones are good. I am actually deciding on XZ and One as well. I saw the XZ in person already and I will see the One in person first before deciding. Some user reviews are exaggerated and biased so it's better to see it in person. S4 is almost the same as S3 so I want to try a different brand after my S2

I did a swot analysis and eventually bought the Xperia Z. You may refer to theOP here

And then reach your own analysis and conclusion. I had choices between the SXZ, HTC 1 and the HTC Butterfly. Hope this can help you (remain on the SXZ).

Have to say the Xperia has changed my mind about Sony. I would probably pick the Sony over the HTC Instagram phone to be fair.
Low light performance of my Z seems to match what i;ve been seeing from HTC samples and the small shots in the daytime wouldnt cut it for me.
I am constantly zooming in on photos to check out people's facial expressions in photo's as there's always something hilarious in shots of night's out.
Aside from that, the water proof aspect of the Z is what's truly sold me. Couldn't have another phone i'm constantly worrying about dropping in puddles or wrecking in the shower.
The ear piece volume on mine is really clear now, for some reason it got better over time and is really loud and clear now. The speaker is loud enough as well. Although i've bought a portable speaker and use that for music and speaker phone it's awesome.

Even if you just want to show your friends something on your phone, they will be looking at the phone from above like 95% of the time.

Much prefer Xperias. Have had the few generations. And when Sony no longer support us with firmware upgrades. Well we are never short of custom Roms on xda. And some of the best devs are behind are XZ already.

You've already experienced the phone's performance and it seems u r satisfied with it. Htc 1 is a real master piece but the Z is unique! I'd say keep it and enjoy!

Note 2 vs Xperia Z1

The question is : Should I sell my Note 2 and get Xperia Z1? I have the Note 8 3G, so having two "notes" is a little superfluous.

Z1 seems like the perfect phone on paper, at least for me. Wait till users get it so u know what is in about it.

I'm actually thinking about the Note 3 or the Z1. The Z1 looks fantastic! But I think I'd miss the functionality of the S-Pen. I'm going to wait for a few reviews to make a decision. Not to mention I won't be buying a phone until Dec. at the earliest! haha.

if the Z1 speaker were not so low , and the screen was not covered by a protection film that gets easily scratched, and if removed the sony logo gets removed too, I would have bought the Z1

There are good small phones with Android. But it's your choice.

LG G2 is a great choice, actually. But like it's been said, you're gonna miss the S-Pen funcionality. Otherwise, the G2 has OIS, the SGN3 not. Of course, the 3 GB are sweet!

I love the G2, but I am not too happy with LG about their update schedule. I love updates! Before I commit to Note 3 or Z1 or even the G2, I'm going to wait to see what the Nexus 5 has to bring! Who knows, maybe I'll just stick with the Note 2 ^.^ It's still a damn great device!

I have a Z1 on hand. Anything you'd like to know? Still getting the Note III, but the Z1 would be my second choice.

Battery life was markedly better than the Z, but I wouldn't put it up with the Note II - unfortunately I haven't been able to test the battery life in a properly quantifiable manner, but based on my usage of the device I'd think ~4 hours screen on over LTE would be possible. It gets rather hot when under load, I suppose you can always dunk it in a cool glass of water mind you.
Screen quality - vastly superior to the Z. Could never have lived with that. This I can live with. The viewing angles still aren't quite there, yet they're so much better than the Z that I was happy enough. Washes out and is especially bad at certain angles, but dead on it's very nice and gets quite bright, though sunlight visibility isn't fantastic.
Speaker was louder than I recall the Z being. Nothing special, though, I prefer the Note's.

Guys i had decided to get a Sony smartphone with waterproof,so i think this is the best option for me.
It costs about RM1,200 in Malaysia.
I'm also considering of Xperia Z1 but it's too expensive,costs about RM1,700,which was out of my budget.
So guys please tell me about this phone cons & pros,and about the 4.3 update performance,thanks :fingers-crossed:
Got some questions,will you think that Sony will support it till 2015 ? (Maybe Android 5.0)
Is it worth it to buy ? Any problem with it ?
1 more thing should i wait for Sony MWC 2014 ?

It's a solid phone, but the 4.3 update brought serious bugs, the cam and battery time is greatly affected by those bugs. Let's hope sony fixes them.
Also it won't get past android 4.4.

It is a good phone. there are some issues with the back plate coming unglued (if you would read the forum instead of asking for the info to be served on a silver plate you'd know ).
the 4.3 update is fast and fluid, and i have found no bug except for "excessive delay, took vsync XX ms", which I have not read about on this forum, and a symmetry bug when taking screenshots.
battery life is ok, I can play ingress for ~3.5 hours (3g, GPS, screen on, rendering tons of 3D graphics)
it will hopefully be supported until 2015 (the Xperia T also got a 4.3 update...)

It is a good phone. I recommed update 4.4 rom

Here in Poland th difference is small:

There's no exploit to root 4.3 currently, so the only way to root if you're already on 4.3 is to unlock your bootloader and flash a kernel with a custom recovery.
Either that or downgrade to 4.2.2, root and flash a prerooted 4.3 rom.

Its a good phone, I've used same Z for almost a year now. Like the others comment here, watch out for the back cover issue. Find a shop to glue it back with 3rd party glue if it loosens, coz the foam strip glue will not last more than a year or so....water goes in...all kinds of problems in drying. And ensure the flap covers are locked in tight when you wash your phone.

Hi,I stay in Malaysia and i bought from a handphone shop at RM1,230 for not original Sony warranty and white color from here http://www.mudah.my/li?ca=8_s&id=88141

a few things you should keep in mind
camera is bad
phone gets hot
battery life is mediocre
screen has washed out colours
wifi is weak
sony is late with updates
dev scene seems to be a bit slower compared to the HTC and Samsung flagship devices.
also, i listen to a lot of music so the flaps get annoying

- The camera isn't perfect and isn't great under low light, but is acceptable under most conditions for me. Hopefully, an update will return the camera quality to what it was under 4.2.2.
- The phone only gets hot after extended periods of playing demanding games for me.
- I get at least 5 hours of screen on time and 2-3% of battery drain overnight. Hardly mediocre.
- The screen may look washed out when compared to other devices, but to me the colour is more natural.
- I get good wifi reception at the end of my large garden, maybe 60-70 metres from my router.
- At least 6 updates, including 2 upgrades to new versions of Android in 9 months is late with updates? If you want fast access to the latest version of Android, you should have gone Nexus.
- Less popular devices will have less dev support. The development section is far from dead though.

I don't know. As I always try to find good settins, I say Z camera is great.
I use it very very often and the general outcome is great. In every conditions.
Nothing is washed out here as well. You repeat some bull..t, the screen is fantastic.

The only thing that isn't that good on the screen are the black levels and viewing angles.
I honestly cant see a big difference to my n5 screen except these.

People think the screen is washed out because they're usually comparing it to a Samsung device that the colours are hugely over saturated on.
Like I said, I think the Z screen actually more faithfully reproduces colours rather than trying to make them pop out of the screen.

Plus on videos and photos Bravia kicks in, giving amazing contrast.
On UI it's more settle so it doesn't kill the eyes.

Display on the z3 I think is slightly better but not 100% sure. The z2 display is good too. Camera is the same thing. With a two or three new features mostly the downloadable apps for the camera. Battery it is better on the z3 the z2 is not bad. So I decided to sell it. I might get the z3 compact I don't think is worth it unless u love the design and the ps4 feature. Which is not out yet. Grrrr I couldn't test that.

Agree! Small update over Z2. With 4.4.4 Z2's battery performace will be as good as Z3.

And if Z2 gets good update to 4.4.4 (at it definitely will), differences will be even harder to see
But, as we said few times already - Z3 isn't here for Z2 users.
It's aiming to Z and Z1 users...

The fact that both devices are mirror images of themselves was known the day the specs of the z3 got confirmed.
Most of the differences are software based and that will narrow significantly once the z2 gets updated.

I wouldn't really say dats a good thing. Z2 price will drop. If I was going to buy a phone right now, I will be getting the Z3. But as I have the Z2 now, NO!

Yh. Is quite a margin i must confess. Tempting really. But here in West Africa, when a newer device comes the older one gets a HUGE price drop and resale value is almost nothing. Well. Speaking from my own point of view. I resell my devices. But anyways, i was never gonna upgrade to the Z3 anyways.. Even Z4 not sure, i want to see what M9 looks like. I think i prefer my devices stay a flagship for a whole year

Yh. Is quite a margin i must confess. Tempting really. But here in West Africa, when a newer device comes the older one gets a HUGE price drop and resale value is almost nothing. Well. Speaking from my own point of view. I resell my devices. But anyways, i was never gonna upgrade to the Z3 anyways.. Even Z4 not sure, i want to see what M9 looks like. I think i prefer my devices stay a flagship for a whole year

I'll second that. I'm no fan of Sony's 6 month nonsense either. It's got me thinking of trying the s6 next year. Don't trust htc on the camera front. Their phones have never had good cameras and that's even before ultrapixels bull****

Lol. Exactly why I want to see what they have to offer really... But Z4 might be good tho. Oh well... Only time will tell

Funny you should say that. I've just bought a new Z2, primarily because the phones were so similar and the Z2 was cheaper. I didn't see any reason to go for the Z3 other than better battery life.
The Z3 has remote play and such like, but that WILL come to the Z2, either by Sony themselves or by some talented individual on these very forums.
I also like the styling of the Z2 better. The Z3 looks too much like the new iphone for my tastes.
Battery life isn't an issue for me because my phone is plugged in every night anyway.
And anyway, it's only six months wait till the Z4.....
Quick Edit - I see by your signature that you have unlocked your bootloader. Have you seen any difference in the Camera or other DRM protected apps since you did it? Also, I take it you backed up your TA? Was it easy to do?

Unlcoked bootloader, didn't backup TA. Camera is better than HTC M8, I'm not a photographer. So I'm living Happily ever after.

hehehe saved my pocket too! Will stay on Z2 until Z5 which most probably will be a copy of Z4

There is definitely a difference in picture quality, especially in low light pictures. Backing up the Ta partition is easy though. You just need to root first. Can restore at any time.

I was scared to get the z2 in July not knowing what the z3/next version would be like. I'm glad to hear I didn't make a totally horrible decision.

Does it really give you 2 days battery life?

Hmm, i disagree. The differences are noticeable, but not enough to get envious of Z3 owners. Source: Wife has one and I set it up for her.
4.4.4 will address the differences in the software. Flashlight on quick settings, many more headphones listed in audio, etc
The screen is brighter and whiter, with precisely the same Nova settings on wife's z3 and my z2, hers is noticeably quicker and responsive - I'd say 10% quicker.
I have to say, I am jealous of the build quality - the covers on the side are recessed a little, so removing the phone from a pouch doesn't dislodge them occasionally.
Once 4.4.4 comes along, I'll be very happy. I bought some STH30 earphones and was disappointed that my z2 doesn't list them. Wife's z3 audio is much clearer than mine with the same headphones. Software no doubt, but she has the STH30 phones listed and it makes the difference somewhere.

Z2 and Z3 battery is different too. We both always get 7hrs screen on time, but wife plays *a lot* of games.
Last time we both compared, I was impressed with my 8hrs screen on time (6% batt left) and she was 10% battery up and at 8hrs46 screen on time. Not sure what she did with it those 2 days uptime though, but gaming in there no doubt.
Hope we get the z3 battery algorithms in 4.4.4!

I can't get 8 hours screen on time because if my screen is on, I'm transmitting data. I use my phone only for phone calls or chatting (sending pictures, videos, taking pictures and sharing them, etc). I get about 5-6 hours of screen on time which is just FANTASTIC in my opinion! I'm on the Z2 by the way.
