GPS Problems - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is anyone else having significant problems getting a consistent lock on GPS? I am running this IOAP on a clean install as directed by the OP. Not only on this rom, but every other ROM I've tried, AOSP or stock roms have given me problems getting a lock for GPS. It seems like whenever i flash a new rom, the GPS will usually get a lock within the first few minutes. However after the first use It is very unreliable and rarely will connect or get a consistent lock. Can anyone provide some sort of guidance with this?
I'm thinking it may be the phone. If so, can I get Verizon to replace it even if I rooted it?
Thanks

GPS cannot lock on signal on Trigger 3.2

Hi guys,
I've installed Trigger 3.2 and flashed the S.GPS fix, im trying to use the GPS using the "NAVIGATION" app but it wont lock on signal... it keeps showing me this "сhecking navigation availability" message while the gps icon on tray keeps flashing...
i left it a coupe of times for half an hour but it still wont lock on signal...
the starnge thing is i tested it using "GPS TEST" app and the apps shows that the GPS DO work and it allready found 12 birds and is using like 8 right now...
what do you guys think could be the problem?...
I just tried it on trigger 3.3 beta. At first it did as your saying. I reflashed the s.zip fix, went to gps test after reboot got a good lock. Then ran navigation no problem.
When I was still stock gps test was the only way I could get mine to work. So its habit for me to use it to get a lock then go about maps/navigation.
Dunno might work might not.

The fix does it itself. No need to do it manually.
Same problem. Ether way the GPS on the Vibrant sucks monkey balls. Horrible compared to other android devices! And there is not a good fix for that! Tried about 20 Roms and GPS still sucks even tried 4 Vibrants devices. Sh*t out of luck! Nice screen but crappy GPS.

I used to think that too. But i recently grap a captivate from my friend and i suppose they have the same GPS as we do. Very crappy for Froyo, but once i flash it with
Andromeda 3

I was totally surprise with the GPS lock.. It takes forever to lock before i flash this rom. But after using this ROM.. guess what? within a few seconds i got the gps lock. I don't know what they do over there but it sure works.. I need to find out what are they fixes and see if they are able to work on my Vibrant or not.
Seriously GPS lock in a few seconds for Galaxy S device is just simply magic. Let me know if anyone know what they did on that rom that make it sooo much better.
THanks
Ok, i followed this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=912777
and installed "Waze", with this app the gps finds birds and gets a lock in seconds with great accuracy!
but on the Navigation app it still wont find them...

[Q] Navigation loses GPS signal after a few minutes

ROM: Royal Ginger 2.1
Radio: 26.08.04.30
Kernel: ckisgen-smartass-CM7-v1.5 Kernel
Used Navigation yesterday (don't use it very often or for long periods of time) to see how long it would take me to get to a golf course 35 minutes away. Picked up GPS and routing very quickly. However, after about 2-5 minutes, Navigation says "GPS signal lost" and never recovers. While Navigation is running, I check GPS Status and it says it's locked onto 7 satellites.
I exit Navigation, wait about 10 seconds, then re-enter the route, and it's rock solid for another 2-5 minutes (before it shuts off again).
I think this is a Navigation problem more than a GPS problem.
Anyone else having this issue?
Have you tried a different ROM?
I've had this issue on few different roms, never could figure out the cause. Try CM 7.0.3 or one of the latest CM nightlies its fixed in those.
I tired 7.0.3 for an hour, but it gave me some freezing/FC'ing/rebooting issues, so I went with RG 2.1. Maybe I'll wait to see if RG 2.2 will solve these issues before jumping to another one.
While I'm at it, my favorite Denver joke...

I was having similar problems myself. There is a new app that shows how many GPS' locks you have while in maps and since I installed this my GPS s finally working. It's free so maybe give it a try. https://market.android.com/details?id=eu.illyrium.tools.gpsmonitor&feature=search_result
Also have you tried the fixes on Team Royal's GPS fix page ? http://www.teamroyal.net/gps.html

Sounds like you didn't wipe before installing or if you did all you needed to do was fix permissions

I did not do that.
So it worked yesterday the whole time without problems traveling 20 minutes to a friend's house, but it lost connection driving to a place 3 miles down the road. Strange stuff.
Hey fellow Coloradans and others,
I've got an HTC Inspire running MIUI- a CM7/AOSP derived ROM, but I'm having the same (I think) issue. I get a near instant lock every time, but soon after, Navigation "loses" the lock. It happens every time I use navigation. This doesn't happen in Sense based Roms. The other nav program I've used, Mapquest, does not have this issue. I've found that if I toggle GPS off then on again after I open Navigation, it holds the lock. While this is an improvement, its still annoying. I realized we're on different phones and ROMs, but have any of you found a solution that works? I've tried all the recommendations, including the one in this post, to no avail. Thanks for any updates!

I'm using the stock radio. I used to have that issue but was eventually fixed in cm nightlies. Not sure but sounds like the miui you are using is using older cm code

[Q] Extrange Touchscreen behavior on my Nexus 4

Hi everyone!
I'm getting an extrange touchscreen behavior in my Nexus 4, eventually a part of the screen stop registering touches, but from one time to another it becomes active again, or, when I lock and unlock, it starts working perfectly. I'm rooted on android 4.2.2 fresh and new install. But in a full charge cicle, that ocurred maybe 5 times whith 4,3 hrs of screen. Can't reproduce that behavior, it occurs randomly (I think). Sorry for my english, I'm from Argentina.
Thanks for your help.
My advice to you would be to try a different kernel and maybe even a different ROM.
The Franco.Kernel has a couple of entries that claim better handling with the touchscreen.

Hi, I'd tried sotck kernel, Harsh and now on Faux kernel whithout any difference. I'll give franco kernel a try, and commet later. I'm thinking on a hardware problem, but how could it be possible if it's not all the time?
I just try franko kernel With no luck same extrange touch screen behaviour.
anyone who could helpme?
Anyone who could help me with any idea?
If changing the kernel and ROM didn't help the issue, the problem is most likely hardware. You can try a few other kernels or ROMs, but you will most likely need an RMA
In, thanks. The problem is that I'm from argentina and can't even contact Google for nexus 4. I have one person in the us but he needs the address to take the nexus and I can't give it. The RMA is just by Mail? Anyone knows?
Thanks!
Now, I'm using it with android 4.2, and its working fine. Immediately when the firmware was installed it doesn't work but now I'm using it for about half hour without any problem? Could it be any disabled built in disabled app? Or any other issue related to android 4.2.2?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Update: not working fine. Just intermittent. Anyone who deal With RMA can tell me is there's a place where I can send the phone in, cause in muy country there's no Google support.
new update: After about 1 and 1/2 week turned off, I strated up to re-flash stock rom 4.2.2 (I was on stock but to be safe decide to re-flash again) and lock bootloader, and now it's working and not making any kind of error, how could it be possible? I'm expecting the error, to tell to my reseller, and it's not happenning. But, is there any way to know if it will happen again? if Google recieve a supposed non-defective device, will they return it?
Final update: My reseller sent back to US, and they told me Google will replace my defective Nexus 4 with a new one. Hope get it back soon, and never have to view any problem on my nexus 4. Thanks for the answers and help.
Conclusion (at least for me): If you have problems with touch-screen (not the sensitivity) and no custom kernel/rom solve it, that's a hardware problem.
Please close thread.

[Q] Phone locks up and restarts with navigation - overheat it seems?

I've been noticing this problem increase over the past few months. It started when I used navigation over longer trips like an hour. The phone would all of a sudden stop responding and then just restart. I noticed its really hot when this happens so I figure it's overheating. Recently it even happens on short trips.
I'm using triforce rom 3.1 which uses agat's kernel. I have not noticed any other restart or crashing issues aside from when I use navigation. I find it important to mention that this all occurs even if the phone is not plugged in or charging.
Has anyone else noticed something like this?
I thought about taking it to sprint since i have tep, but I figure they will either just tell me it's my fault since it's a custom rom or just offer to format the phone like they do with every other problem.
Any ideas are appreciated.
Not an expert, but sounds KERNAL related....try a differant kernal...

Thanks for the tip. I'll have to find one that still works with my older version of the rom. If nothing else, I may just wait until I have a little more time and use a new or different rom all together and see if that makes a difference.

I just wanted to follow up and see if anyone had more suggestions or a specific kernel to try. I tried 3 different ones with the following results:
KT-SGS4-JB4.2-TW-SPR-02.20.2014 - No navigation reboots, started rebooting randomly otherwise
AGAT_GS4_v0.5.1 - Still reboots/overheats during navigation
AGAT_GS4_v0.5.2 - Still reboots/overheats during navigation
Stock. I've never had good luck on custom kernels going back to the S2 (the same devs as currently).
Really, my devices have always ran worse and with significant issues, including the one you are describing.
If that's not an option, play with the governor settings, remove any overclock, and try other ROMs.

GPS Problems with CM13

Anyone else having problems with GPS on CM13? Seems like no matter what I do I can't get the GPS to work right with any navigation app I've tried. When using Maps, it finds my location, but when I actually nav to my destination and start moving my location jumps around sporadically and it causes me to go off course and get all screwed up. I've asked about it in the actual ROM thread and have messaged the dev directly and I'm getting nothing. If anyone else has/had the same issue and knows a solution please advise.
I'm currently running [ROM][CM13][6.0.1_r72][VZW][OTA-Updates] Temasek's UNOFFICIAL Build V12.2. I clean flashed the latest update to start fresh. This solved the crazy battery drain problem that dirty flashing the latest update had caused, but the GPS is still whacked.
Thanks.
Did you ever find a fix to this? I just flashed build 12.3 20161220 on my N900V and it's unable to see any GPS satellites.
Won't matter, Cyanogen and CyanogenMod will be shut down as of Sunday.
