I remember on my gnex that there was a way to boost brightness above max factory settings... Does anyone know how to do this?
My g2 seems to be struggling in bright sunlight... Its just not that easy to see. I am currently on a 4.2 rom. When I recently flashed a 4.4 rom it seemed that the screen was brighter. Any ideas?

Hi all,
Happy with my new N7 except for one thing, the max screen brightness is a little low for me.
Now, this same thing happens with Stock ROM on the Galaxy Nexus, but when its flashed with CM10, the max brightness went way higher.
So, my question is, anyone tried any of the Custom ROMs on here and noticed that they can increase overall brightness of the screen any?
Thanks in advance,
Kev

Is there any rom or kernel making the screen brighter?
The other day I was watching someone's YouTube video where they showed off the changes in Android 4.3 on their Nexus 4. I bought my Nexus 4 yesterday (running 4.2.2), but the colour configuration is terrible. Blacks look grey/olive green, and everything looks washed out. In the video, the guy said Google updated the colour settings for 4.3, and everything looks more vibrant and less washed out. For those with the 4.3 update, can you please confirm this?
Thanks.
I think I read that the values regarding colour are the same as in 4.2.2, so no change. Don't take my word for it though, maybe someone else can confirm?
Personally I didn't notice a difference between 4.2.2 and 4.3 stock colour either.
I guess I should have done my research about OLED screens, but I feel that this screen is way too dim both indoors and outdoors. Is anyone else having problems with this? I know that the peak brightness is 475 on autobrightness, but I feel that the screen never reaches that. On another note, the colors seem very saturated and unreal even on movie mode...
Is there any way I can set the autobrightness to kick in at a higher lux indoors? I know it seems like I am venting, but I really like this phone but the display brightness may make me abandon for the Nexus 5...
Thank you everyone!

Root the phone and install a custom ROM. That will give you the ability to change the auto brightness levels easily.
You could also turn off auto brightness and set it manually so you fan boost it all the way up whenever you wanted.
As far as the hardware capabilities the screen is capable of being plenty bright. I could see mine if I was standing on the face of the sun.

I don't know much about custom TW ROMs as I run aosp exclusively. I know its easy in cm ROMs. If its not a native feature of Omega I'm sure there is a mod you can tweak it with. You would have to search though. I don't know where to direct you.

I got my GPE yesterday and while setting it up, I noticed that the brightness would change on its own intermittently from the same bright white that I have on the LGE I picked up last weekend to something like what folks are describing as the more yellow-tinted display on other threads. Note that I do *not* have auto-brightness enabled! This is happening when I have the brightness cranked all the way up to 100% without auto-brightness.
If the screen were yellow-tinted all the time, I'd think it's the same issue others are reporting, but since it does vary between the two randomly, I'm thinking/hoping that it's software and not a hardware issue. Does this sound familiar to anyone else? If so, does anyone know of a way to lock it in on the brighter/whiter setting?
My GPE is doing the same. Brightness will either dim or brighten on its own. It's a very subtle change, but definitely noticeable. Also its very intermittent and I've only noticed it in chrome, Google now. I also have auto brightness disabled and brightness at or near 100%.

I contacted Google support and they're sending me a replacement. I'll post here as to whether that solves the problem or not.
Just got my replacement for the exact same issue. Unfortunately the new tablet does the exact same thing. I originally had the LG version and never had this problem. Only in the GPE edition.

Exact same experience here. My Galaxy S4 does something similar. I found one thread the other day saying that Android lowers the brightness automatically when the device temperature hits a certain level (95F, maybe?). I've never seen this on my other Android devices, but I'm kind of resigned to this being the case. It's really my only nit with an otherwise outstanding device, so I guess I'll live with it.
N986u1 unlocked version bought directly from samsung and I'm having a jelly like effect on black and darker colors while scrolling. However if I increase the brightness it goes away. Is anyone else noticing this?
in all apps or just some?
Wasn't that one of the display issues reported on Snapdragon variants on dark colors while at low brightness? Search for the "green tint display bug" and see if it's similar...
Sent from nowhere over the air...
I searched for the issue. There's no jelly effect mentioned and I'm not having the green tint effect at all. Just jelly at low brightness
I am having that issue too, but only when dark mode is one. So I just turned off dark mode for now. Seems to fix it, although there still is some effect when scrolling, its not as bad with the dark mode turned on.
Try disabling animations completely in Developer Options?
That's one of the first things I do anyway.

Did you restore a backup from another phone to your Note Ultra? If so a FDR should fix the issue. A lot of issues are being reported as bugs and they simply restored data from an old phone to the Note 20, not a good practice at all. Your new Note 20 should be set up from scratch.
Are you sure it's not oled black smearing? Can you record the issue you are having?
I get it on my Google feed quite often
