[Q] [New Idea] A play and chat space for friends - General Marketing & SEO

I just got a new idea. Currently Instant messengers only allow chatting and most games do not provide a real time chat experience with friends. The idea is like msn games where you can chat and play with your friends at the same time. It can be a mobile app space where you can play games, chat and kill spare times. Do you think this idea can be changed to a mobile app?

Games and IM on the same screen would probably not work on mobile devices. It works on PC because you have so much better control with a mouse than thick sausage fingers. Of course, the screen is also much bigger.
It's also important to differentiate between playing while you're chatting and chatting while you're playing. In the case of MSN, you are playing while you're chatting. Don't bring this kind of chat system into your games, but consider integrating small games into your chat client.

A multi-player games network for friends rather than an IM which can play game. More emphasise on games rather than on IM?

I have created a demo video for my idea. Look good?
Are you interested in the mobile app?

Sounds like fun.

I like this idea. Surpised it hasn't been integrated into facebook messenger or snapchat.

That's not easy to do so. Integrate with games will make snapchat / fb messenger lose their original focuses.

trying to get MP3 Opera link to play/stream automatically

hey all
So I'm putting out music and trying to get the release page in a simple, touch-friendly format. So far, so good...
http://dopanex.com
except that when I click on a link on my TP2 with Opera it asks me where I want to save the MP3, instead of playing/streaming it automatically.
Is there some way to get it to stream on mobile browsers as it does in a desktop browser? Some fancy html perhaps I can include in the page code to make it more mobile-friendly?
Is it just a TP2 thing? What happens when you click a song on your phone?
thanks!
This is the message I get when clicking one of the songs from Opera.. Pretty standard really.. I'll even get that message from the links on a site like this one-> http://www.filtermusic.net/ Who use a lot of .pls extensions and some others..
Nice music btw..

i've been trying to figure this out too. i feel like the Streaming Media app that is on the device should take care of this like how Quicktime does on the iPhone but it doesnt really do much of anything. ive had the phone for about 2 months now and that is one of the things on my short list left to get it working exactly like i want it to. so if anyone knows how to force Opera multimedia files to stream automatically i'd really appreciate it if you'd let me know.

Paid for software worth installing on TP2?

Hi Folks,
I know there is already a thread about software worth installing but these all seem to be freeware.
I'm just wondering if we can start a thread where people can put up a list of paid for software that is worth installing or not worth it? If there is already could someone please point me in the right direction?
If not, would you be so kind as to share what you have bought and why it is good or bad?
many thanks.
I have purchased a few great apps:
Cash Organizer - Money management program. Does graphs and budgets for finances and helps me track multiple accounts. I use this with my online banking to reconcile my bank account twice a week to know exactly where my money is at.
Backcountry Navigator - AWESOME GPS app that will download (from computer or device) US Forrest Service maps and tell you where you are on it. It will track your movement so if you go camping and hike for a couple hours, this will tell you where you are and you can find a quick easy way back. Must have for any outdoor people.
Nagivon - Turn by turn direction software for GPS. Not only does it do voice turn by turn but also says street names so I don't have to keep looking at my phone. On the freeway it shows real traffic signs and also lane guidance so it will actually tell you exactly what lane to be in when a freeway interchange or exit is happening. VERY cool app!
I'm a huge fan of Garmin XT for Nav. Not cheap, but in my humble opinion, very much worth it. I've also paid for Newsbreak (podcast catcher / RSS feed tool) - also very good.
Jamie
Backup options
SPB Backup
and
Sprite Backup
Both are paid apps, but they're the go-to options for most members here when it comes to selective- or full-system backups to/from your winmo phone. They can even do the backups to a new phone or different rom on the same phone.
Music and Media
I would have to say of all the media players I have tried, nothing beats the latest version of Core Player. For just sheer ease of use and ability to handle multiple file formats this media player is as good as it gets.
I definitely second Garmin XT. One of the features I use ALL the time is it showing the gas prices of all the closest gas stations.
I also think a good alarm/profile manager is a necessity.

Android 2.2 Wish list

With android 2.2 around the corner, what additional features do people want in the new OS. My obvious concern is that with the iPhone 4G around the corner our community really need to pull out the stops...
I recently blogged about it ( http://www.adriancantrill.me/blog/2010/05/android-2-2-wish-list-making-the-platform-competitive/ ) but i'd appreciate peoples thoughts on what SHOULD be in 2.2 and what NEEDS to be in 2.2
Seems there will be a kindle app soon enough - thats one step towards more mainstream support.

I want HD video out capabilities.
720p video recording? With the added horsepower and 5mp camera technically covering all the pixels for it (maybe even up to 1080p), I can't see why not.
Native file browser and ability to save email attachments to sd card. Why didn't android 1.0 have such basic functionality?
All of The Above!
A MULTI-TOUCH KEYBOARD THAT WORKS WELL!!!!!!!!!
Google has failed to come close to the iPhone keyboard in terms of usability other than speech to text
a google "mikandi" app
jk
Backend: Open GL enhancements so more 3D games, and JIT for faster execution.
Frontend: Better search in marketplace and a more consistent UI with some sort of spam control on market
It makes me wonder if they will tackle the fragmentation of the market as has been suggested and pop a few of the key apps and features outside the OS....
I just want way louder ringtones!
And proper sound recording with video camera
Improvements/fixes.
Proper audio EQ
Divx/Xvid or at least give devs full needed access to implement these features.
HD video recording. ((full frame speed too not HD 8 fps or slowed down version like current cam))
C/Paste in Gmail.
Ability to send as different user within Gmail.
Edit quoted text Gmail.
Allow further attachment handling in Gmail both send and rcv.
Fix FB integration with name priorities.
MUCH larger HQ caller ID pictures.
An "exclude from Gallery/Music" option to directories that doesnt just .hide but actually skips over for those apps but allows other apps to continue using those media files.
Folders in App drawer.
Custom icons for folders on home screens.
Better search in market
multi-select in app updater.
Long press to start copy paste function in browser.
New Stuff
All the features Wysie adds to his contacts.
PictureMail in GoogleVoice ((even if its web launched))
Basically every damn customizable feature of Handcent in default SMS.
Re-Name and re do GTalk into Android Messenger to compete with BBM.
A social networking widget ala sense UI/Blur/New MS phones.
Thats all that comes to mind.
Can we have it now? Lol are we there yet?

[Q] how would flash 10.1 would make my phone special

hi i have Galaxy S 2.1
from day one i can enter youtube and watch clips in "full site" version, the buffering is pretty fast and the audio and video is good so i dont get how flash 10.1 works?
if please could someone tell me what are the differences and how it would make my phone better than others (less the 2.2,iphone...etc)
thx in advance
YouTube isn't the only site which uses flash.
There are lots of more sites which use flash and you can use this sites with your android browser (in most cases).
For example there are lots of flash games on the web which you can use or some sites use flash to display their content.

It is true for sites like youtube you won't notice any difference because the Galaxy comes preinstalled with a youtube application (that supports HD) so when clicking youtube links you can choose to play these in the youtube app. What you can't do is play any flash content directly in the browser and this includes youtube. Once the galaxy s gets froyo (new date is now 11th Nov) you will be able to access much more content rich sites mainly asociated with streaming movies. There are users who have had luck streaming from lovefilm, and various bbc, itv sites (tvcatchup.com). Then like mentioned places like http://www.addictinggames.com/ you "should" be able to play games there aswell ... until flash 11 comes out and you no longer can play any flash content anymore as sites start to upgrade to flash11 only

yes i can see some clips from other websites not only youtube my question is
how does flash 10.1 add value? why android now is considered so strong because it has flash 10.1?
i think the biggest deal for me is that I PERSONALLY have a CHOICE as to what I want to use or not. if i don't want flash, i can uninstall/disable it. i chose to set my plug-ins to "on-demand" in my browser settings so i can enable it whenever i wanted. it really is a ***** to have some guy ::COUGH:: steve jobs) telling me what i can & can't use on my 600$ phone.
in a nutshell, well in my nutshell , it's like having car makers saying what mods you can & can't do to your $20k vehicle....so to speak
anyway, that's my take on it. i like the 10.1 flash in 2.2. i think it runs really well when i decide to enable it. just my

[Q] Run Modern/Metro UI apps on the desktop?

Hello fellow Windows 8 users!
Not sure if this should be in development, but i was wondering if it was possible to run the Metro/ Modern UI apps on the dektop screen in a window? It seems the new office does this and I really liked it. I find it extremely annoying using a fullscreen app on a 24" screen on my desktop PC.
The new Windows literally kills windows. I don't get why they would do this to desktop users.
Office 2013 is desktop apps, not modern apps.
I understand that, I'm just using it as a reference for what I'm looking for. Its a desktop app but its in the style of a metro app that runs in a window and I want to know if there's a way to run real metro apps in a window.
I'm with you on this one. It would be nice especially with a dual-monitor setup. Anyone know if this is possible?

It would require hacking up a large portion of the OS. I don't think it will ever happen, if only because the metro apps can almost all be downloaded as regular desktop apps/browser windows. Netflix, Skype, etc...why go to all the trouble porting them when they already exist independent of the new UI.
This doesn't exactly answer your question, but have you played with Snap mode?
You are limited to a narrow, 400px width snap area (left or right side of the screen) and can only have one app/application running in the Snap area, but it is the only out-of-the-box way I'm aware of that can (somewhat) do what you're looking to achieve.
Just seen this app on Neowin. http://www.neowin.net/news/windows-8-based-retroui-gets-update-to-retroui-pro
I has a feature that puts a metro app in a window. it's working but it's still really unpolished.
Here is a pic of me playing wordament on the desktop. The app has some rough edges, hopefully it can be improved. The main problems are that it makes Windows really sluggish, and it's really unstable. It doesn't give taskbar items for the metro app and the second the metro app losses focus the window disappears.

Great find!!!!!!!!!! will go back to windows 8 now....first 2 trials lasted 2 hours only, couldn't get over the fact that all those metro apps run full screen, as multitasking was down to 0
Thank you
You also don't have to use Metro at all... the only things I use it for are Mail (crappy, but it works most of the time) and Skype (which is actually fantastic when snapped to one side of the desktop)
