Hey guys. I got a second hand Nexus S today and it came rooted, with a custom rom of ICS installed. It's called Neopolitan or something like that.
I'm wondering how I can probably keep it rooted, but go to a normal stock version of ICS on my Nexus S (So I can install updates straight to the device, etc.)
Thanks
Forgot to say this is the U.K version.
Hi,
I think this thread may help you...

Do you have a i9023 version, right?
look at post #10 on this thread...
will the GSM nexus s that works with tmobile usa run ICS or only the nexus s 4g for sprint/verizon?

Is your bootloader locked? You can see when turn phone on have you got padlock symbol? Then check what recovery you using power + volume up is it stock or clockwordmod?

There is no Nexus S 4G for Verizon. And only the GSM version has an official release for ICS. There are 3rd party ROMs for both of course. But if you want official ICS read the sticky threads in this forum.
Hi everybody
Yesterday installed a new version of http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-att/development/movin-please-posts-t2864506
I do all the movements and a correct installation; but when I try to make a call a message saying "No registered" or like "no service" appears. This happens in all the iB4STiD new version of roms in every Kernels.
The carrier is "CLARO" and the kind of band is UMTS or HSPA+
Please help!

Did you configure the APN settings for your carrier? If not, you can find the menu in...

Thanks for reply! The problem isn't in the apn or internet conection... Is in all the carrier registration, that means can't call or send sms.
Sometimes the 4G symbol appears and I can navigate in internet but don't allow me to call.

APN settings is all I had. I have an ATT on ATT network, so I do not have too much experience configuring the phone on other carriers.
In the OP, you mentioned "This happens in all the iB4STiD new version of roms in every Kernels." Did it work on his older ROMs or another dev's ROM? If so, I'd suggest flashing one of those to see if it is still working.

Yes, yes and yes. I do all, but nothing change. I installed a old version of GE (37, 38, 38.1) doesn't work.
Now I'm trying with GE 30. First I trying SHOstock and seems work.
I got more information for you!
The problem started when I installed a KK 4.4.4 Rom, before this never happened anything and always a custom rom allowed me to call.
PD: ONLY with the stock rom (I337UCUAMDL_I337ATTAMDL_ATT) and a based 4.4.4 custom rom is installed it can use the phone for call. Not just the internet!
Anybody knows something about that???

No, it'll just flash the modern. Nothing else will change. I'm not sure if it will help you though. It could, modems sometimes work better and other times not. It depends on where you are and what works better in that location. You can always flash back to the mdl modem, i.e. baseband

Hi all, just came to the S5. My carrier (in my case, Bluegrass Cellular) is a carrier partnered with Verizon's LRA Rural LTE program.
More info can be found here. http://www.verizonwireless.com/news/2012/05/4g-lte-goes-live-in-rural-america.html
https://opennetwork.verizonwireless...s-modules/devices/SMG900R6_GalaxyS5_2808.html
This thread is intended to help others with this variant of the S5.
I thought I would take the lead in helping the small community with this phone looking to root and run custom roms as we did in the S4 thread in the Verizon S4 Help/QA Thread.
* our other thread for the S4, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2453312 *
We get our LTE phones from Verizon, and they are close-nearly clone variants of their original Verizon version. For example, for the Galaxy S4 I just moved from, SCH-545 (VZW) VS SCH-I545L (LRA) which even had an identical partition table. This s5 variant is in many ways equal to the Verizon dev edition. Also further evidence to support a mostly Verizon clone these phones share the same fcc id, a3l-smg900v
Status: What I've tried so far.
Root: Geohot's Towelroot worked successfully.
RECOVERY: UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER! use twrp or cwm whatever you please.
Kernel: I use ktoonsez kernel. Works perfectly. Highly recommended, this guy's work is amazing.
Custom ROM: installed and working! VZW custom roms work. If you guys want to try Verizon roms, just edit build prop to lra info, you can find it thread.. Just remember to restore apn aswell and it works perfectly. You can use kitkat TW roms like Alliance rom, OptimalROM, extreme syndicate etc.. some aosp roms work with (patch not needed) some roms have unexplained issues..i dont know what to do about them. Remember to flash kernel of choice (highly recommend ktoonsez) after rom aswell. Have fun!
I will update as I go along, anyone can feel free to post. Welcome any and all who have this phone for any questions.

Mine says nothing about boot. I'll try to do a backup and find a camera to show you later.
I tried Alliance slimhyde and extreme syndicate. I think They have problems with our firmware tho. Works mostly, apns are restorable , but have issues with Android.com.phone wakeup, can't figure out but it causes high system drain. If you're OK with less than stock battery life, try it. I'm trying to investigate the differences that cause problems I experience.

So does each LRA carrier release software updates at different times? I'm on NF2 as well. Will root cause update errors?

The lra carriers should release all at once, updates are pushed from Samsung. Root can cause errors but you can unroot and restore system changes. It will block ota alerts tho, but I have an Xposed module that bypasses the root check so I'll still get notified of an update. Safestrap backups also help out a ton, so you can make a stock system backup to restore later etc.

i did, says nothing about boot. everything else is ok. as far as testing the build prop, easiest way is probably to make a backup, and install build.prop editor app. it will create a romtoolbox folder on phone, then in that folder you should see build prop backups. paste it in there, open up app and restore it.
Hey guys
Has anyone tried to use a GSM Sim card? US or international, to test GSM capabilities of this model? Technically this phone should be an unbranded, unbloated Verizon model, which is SIM unlocked for US/Intl. carriers, unless the software restricts it.
Since our carriers use band 13 LTE like Verizon, it has to be unlocked.
I'm just curious what LTE bands it has.

I'm in the same boat I have activated LTE option but there is no 4G coverage in my country yet.
If you have any news, please let me know. TIA.
There's usually a very basic reason for 4G not showing up as a selection.
A. The SIM is old. Get a new one. This is by far the most common cause.
B. 4G is relatively new for your provider, and it hasn't been enabled in the firmware for your specific provider yet. Flash another CSC or wait for the next update. (funnily enough it is often enabled in another country. DBT Germany had T-Mobile Netherlands enabled for 4G before the 4G network itself was active. Freaked people the hell out at T-Mobile NL HQ when I had 4G and they didn't.)
C. You're using the wrong CSC. In the EU a lot of independent shops sell imported devices. We get a lot of XEF users that can't run 4G in the Netherlands. Simple flashing is sufficient, as with B.
I know you got it working by rooting. Just putting this out there as a basic steps for those who don't want to root. (bit of a shame if you do trip KNOX and it turns out to just be an old simcard.)

So thinking I bought a Sprint Galaxy Note 3 (n900p) on Swappa turned out to be an international galaxy note 3 (n9005) which I didn't realize until I flashed the n900p bootloader and used the cf one click root method. I have twrp installed but my bootloader is for n900p (Sprint). What can I do to get the proper bootloader and files flashed as I don't want to brick my device by using the sprint unroot method incase it doesn't work? Main issue I have is my phone loses LTE when I go in a building but picks back up when I go outside. The default radio baseband is Japan and when I switch to USA get LTE permanently but cannot receive/send text messages. After a period of time on the USA radio band, I will lose all bar signals in my status bar and it will show up empty. Ideas?
