Stops receiving messages and calls? - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there,
Sometimes my S4 (GT-I9505) just stops receiving messages and calls (as if it is turned off).
If i check my phone when this occurs i have full signal, and nothing seems to be wrong.
If i disable and reenable wifi and data it usually starts working again.
I've never ran into the issue when calling out or sending a text message.
So it only seems to happen when the phone is not in use.
Anyone have a solution or a suggestion?
It is rooted, and running 4.2.2 (stock samsung rom)
All help will be greatly, appreciated.

Have not enabled blocking mode.
I'm running everything stock except the root so this shouldn't really be necessary(?), but if it can help how would i find one specific to my area?

No Sound or Make Calls / Receive on Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9505 after flashing

Hi,
When I was receiving a phone call only the vibration was working, no sounds, I couldn't slide the screen to answer properly, which means that I was able to slide, but the round icon of the slide could not catch the phone green icon. I could play no sound at all on videos, spotify, alarm, etc.
Currently settings about my phone:
Samsung S4 i9505 - 4.4.2
Baseband: i9505XXUFNBH
Bootloader: I9505XXUBMG4
Any fixes? People saying different things and really want a well explained correct answer. I've had previous problems and really just want to get this sorted

No worries Next time,If your flashing the latest modem flash only GSM modem . Not wifi fix/LTE or package combined, so you wont get any problem with your sound. Have a nice day .
...
absolutely no sounds & call function after flashing
Hello,
A few days ago I flashed my Galaxy S4 with the last cyanogenonmod using their flashing software. Then my phone was unlocked but I couldn't access the data internet from my new provider's sim card (3G).
Then I tried to reflash the original version to unlock the phone from the correct provider (Meteor Ireland).
Problem is that I am using Mac OS and have no access to a windows. So I used Heimdall 1.4.0.
From the begining, and I tried with many different ROMs, but I can never install the aboot partition. everything else flashes correctly. But now my phone network is working perfectly, except that I have absolutely no sound any more. The call application crashes, no alarm, no sound during boot, no videos that can be played and when I'm using the music app it says the format of the songs is not recognized.
I think the problem comes from the ABOOT partition missing, as I tried the other NON-HLOS as you said earlier. Sadly this GSM only version didn't fix the sound / calls and just deactivated my wifi.
I am a bit lost here, I was thinking about reinstalling a cyanogenonmod via heimdall to check if the aboot works there, because when I reinstalled cyanogenonmod via the software the issues weren't fixed.
Here is the detail of my phone, if someone can help me get through that I would really appreciate it :
SAMSUNG Galaxy S4 - GT-I9505
Region : Ireland
Provider : Meteor
Baseband version : I9505XXUENAA
Build number : JSS15J.I9505XXUENAA
Thank you very much

S4 cannot hear on a phone call after KK update...

Hi guys,
I have a i9505 and downloaded the official kitkat rom when the phone prompted that a update was available. I downloaded via my 4G network/mobile data. Since then whenever i make phone calls or people call me i cannot hear them and they cannot hear me. If i reboot the phone it works right away OK! but after that throughout the day it is problem again.
Now i have rooted my phone and put a custom rom on... Guess what? same problem.
Someone please advise? its obviously a software related problem but how can it be when i have changed the rom completely and rooted the phone???
Can anyone at least point me to a forum that can help with android/ i9505 problems??
Did you perform full wipes/factory reset?
Did you try flashing a different modem?

Tried full factory reset without it being rooted. No joy.
Tried rooting then using different roms AND modems. No joy.
When i call someone, i cannot hear the dial tone on my S4. It connects i still cannot hear anything. The other person who picked up the phone cannot hear me. When i reboot the phone it works right away perfectly fine. But after that its gone again. Im stumped.
What happens if you go to the dialer > menu button > call settings > disable Screen off during calls.
My dad had something simmilair and it was caused by a malfunctioning proximity sensor.

[Q] Mobile network disconnects when the screen is off

Hello,
I've noticed something strange this past month. I was getting data disconnections and I could'nt figure out why. Each time I look at my phone, turning the screen on, mobile network (voice + data) is missing for a few seconds, and comes back.
Now I know that if I keep the screen on for a while (I tried more thant 1 hour), I don't loose the network, but if let the screen go to sleep I immediately loose the network (I don't receive whatsapp messages in background), and when I turn the screen on, it comes back.
Weirdly, when my phone could reach 4G, I had (almost) no disconnection. It only happens in a 3G, edge, or nodata zone.
I changed my carrier (I just moved from europe to New Zealand), and it doen't change the problem.
I'm using CM11-Nightly (sept) on a I9505. I tried installing an old nightly(from july), and it was really full of error messages, so I switched back to a recent nightly, but in the meantime I had no disconnection.
Thank you for your help

I don't know exactly where this option is, but it's for battery saving. You can choose that somewhere in your settings I think
I think that's true for Wi-Fi, but I never found it for network.
And now it seems that network won't come back if I don't go to airplane mode and back to normal mode.
I'm having the same problem, seems to mostly affect lollipop installs.
Did you find a solution?

No I didn't. It seems that somewhere in july 2014, CM11 included a new version of the modem. So every CM11 build after that and every CM12 build is affected (I don't know about other roms).
I read that it was the way the modem handled finding the best network method. With the previous modem (v5 ?) it tried to get LTE, 3G, etc... but now it fails when it fails to get the prefered network.
4 solutions:
- flash the modem (didn't try it, don't know how)
- You're supposed to be able to choose you're prefered network in the options and choose 2G/edge. Didn't work for me but I'm interested in your feedback.
- get an old version of CM11
- live with it (my current option :'( )
There is maybe another solution, I'm not an expert, just a desperate user.
Hey again, I did fix it for myself.
The modem is the problem (I flashed my modem, and my bootloader just to be re-up-to-date).
If you want to get lollipop for yourself you should do it, its not too hard
Its listed as Qustion 14 on this here page: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2419762
I don't mind trying to give some pointers if you need help understanding how to do it, but I did this at 5am while sick so my memory of what I did is not 100%, never the less I would like to help if you need it.
Thank you for the advice (you came seeking for one, and ended up helping me ).
How did you choose which modem version to pick up ? the latest ? Do you have to do it after every CM upgrade ?
Edit:
I found the latest version from one of your links : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=50965837#post50965837
Is the "Combined package - both modems in one flashable file." ok ?
And what does flashing the bootloader do ?
"What it does"... I am not 100%, I assume it initialize some part of the system, HW or kernel level, but I might be way off.
In any case I did use the dual modem pack to flash both "PHONE" and "PDA", another thread I asked in just replied to another user with the neccessity to flash the new bootloader aswell (dont know if the version numbers applies for you):
u must be using a 4.4.2 baseband and bootloader .. just a 4.4.2 baseband will not work .. once updated ur set

My question is on this page a bit down, and some replies a bit further down than that:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2735248&page=116
Tip: I had to save the PIT to a file (did it twice to be sure) with heimdall before using odin to flash (couldn't get heimdall to work for that part), all because odin would not play nice inbetween loading the PIT from device and flashing, this might not be a problem for you at all so it's just an FYI.
I managed to flash the modem & the bootloader. So far, no disconnection, so I'm quite happy.
Cheers

Mobile Data not working after nougat update

Hi i am having a weird issue with my sprint S7. My mobile data is not working after the nougat update. the weird thing is the LTE icon is showing on top. And if i make a Wi-Fi hotspot the device connected to my hotspot does get internet access... if anyone can help or guide me, i will be grateful. thanks
P.S. i have checked APN settings, restarted and gone to air mode and back.
This reply isn't a help but ive had quite same issue but it's my wifi! It keeps disconnecting and reconnecting after the update. UGHHH and i hate the new font.
Had the same issue, update profile, update prl, perform hands free activation and restart the phone. Worked immediately after reboot.

can you link the theards with tutorial how to do this?
Same thing happened for me. I just rebooted my device and it fixed itself.
Data was working for me, but i couldn't send or receive mms. Mine was just a issue of making the domestic data available on the settings.
Don't know where tutorial is, just go to settings system updates and you'll see the profile and prl update options. Then go back to main settings and click active this device. Then reboot.
I tried everyones advise and my phone still isn't connecting to data.
