[Q] can I root my Note 2? - Galaxy Note II General

Hi,
I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 (Android 4.3) and I have Knox on it, but it isn't installed. I mean that I can see the Knox app on my device but whan I press it it gives me the option to install it.
I'm new in the Android world, but as I understood, I shouldn't install Knox because it blocks the root and ROM options.
Is it true? Can I root & ROM my device?
Thanks a lot

Yes you can.
And when you open superSU
It's asks you to give it permission to stop knox.
You can root your device by odin.
Make some search

As everybody else's told you. You can but take into consideration that the knox warranty can not be set to 0 again. At least not yet...so warranty will be out of discussion.

You can, and if it gets hard bricked, a warranty repair is out of the question. The best option if that happened is to go to the carrier and play stupid.

[Q] Root and KNOX

Hello,
I updated my Galaxy Note 3 SM-N9005 with KIES to XXUDMJ7 and right after that I rooted it before activating KNOX on my phone.
After that I wanted to start using KNOX so I clicked the app icon in order to activate it and filled the password to start, but then I got an alert meesage saying that my phone has been changed so KNOX can not be used.
I do want to use KNOX because it seems a nice to have feature to protect my sensetive data.
Can anyone PLEASE help me what can I do in order to enjoy a rooted device and KNOX together ?
Looks like u tripped the knox counter by rooting

Not what was asked... Knox is a program that separates Android into 2 sections, the insecure one that we use rooted and a secure version that stops all apps from doing ANYTHIG that could give out our data. Photo's taken while using the Knox security feature wil only be available in the Knox section.
No, you can't use Knox after rooting as you have now opened up the system to questionable apps unapproved by Samsung...
There is no way I have seen to spoof the system to allow use of Knox security app and have a rooted phone....
Just to know

1) No, Knox stop working, that's all
2) It seems that no with the last firmware ... On our Note 3 with the old bootloader you can root with "Root de la vega" and enjoy Knox... With some S4 that's the same.

My previous firmware was XXUDMJ4 and I had problems with the S-pen, so I updated it to XXUDMJ7.
Can you please tell me what is this update ?
The only reason I rooted my phone is to use "Tasker" and "Greenify" apps.
don't know the change log for the MJ7 update... But i know that with MJ7 (and also MJ5) you have the new bootloader ...
Thank you all

[Root] Knox stays (0x0) with Kingo android root

I was looking for a safe root so that my knox counter remained at 0x0
First flased the stock firmware with odin XXUEMK4 from SamMobile
and then with kingo root rooted my Note 2
and it works my counter remained 0x0
I used this youtube movie as an example, if I did everything right, and everything went well with my
Link to Kingo android root
This won't reset KNOX if you already void KNOX warranty

1- Download and install Samsung Kies or Samsung Mobile driver
2- Download "kingo"
3- On your device go to Settings/More/About device/
4- Tap 5 times on "build number" to enable "Developer option"
5- Enable "USB Debug Mode" from developer options
6- Connect your device to PC by USB cable and wait until "kingo" display the model of your device
7- Click the green Button and wait few seconds
8- After it reboot, you can unplug USB cable
Is there really already a Knox-workaround way to root the new 4.3 firmwares?
HAHAHA! That's awesome!

Kingo Works Confirmed!!!
Just rooted my phone using Kingo

Build XXUEMK4 (India)
Knox Bootloader
WITHOUT tripping the Knox Counter!!!
Though Device status shows "Custom"
Can be taken care of by Using Xpose Framework & Wanam
Thanks.

Nope. Has nothing to do with odex/deodex.
BTW. If this method works, it's the first workaround without tripping knox.
No more using older bootloaders I guess. Nice find!

Ok so please check your phone through Odin to see if really your counter stays 0x0 an show us a screenshot.
This will be the definitive confirmation.
Kingo works 100%
Have been using this rooted phone for more than a few days without any problems.
Had downloaded the OTA though.
Had not flashed MK4 firmware via Odin but it should not make a difference.
Have not tried the wanam & xpose process ... will try it today and give u all an update.
I am purely on a stock rom (odexed)
Just wanted to root the device without any custom notifications or tripping any counters
I guess this Kingo method serves the purpose...so far until something better turns up.
This is purely for those who are on STOCK Rom & want to root their Phones and are afraid of tripping their Knox Counter etc.
Follow this post for further instructions on rooting via Kingo & Wanam & Xpose (for making Device Status from Custom/Modified to Official)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2509244
Major.
PS. Device status showing Custom/Modified will not allow you to update your phone via OTA.
If you want to Make it official as I mentioned u can use Wanam & Xpose
OR
Flash the original Stock ROM via ODIN (You will lose the ROOT though)
PROOF!!!

Correct me if I'm wrong but since we have root on a non modified Knox status phone, we can pull the bootloader and system info, then try to break the fuse and compare it to the untouched status one? @Chainfire

Could be possible...
As after rooting by this method I personally feel this Knox thing is more kind of software related rather than Hardware.
If Kingo can bypass this and root so can our senior Dev Team too can.
Although, I don't understand much of this mambo-jumbo in programming..am always ready to help.

root on kitkat knox

Hello, everyone,
my note 3 runs android 4.4.2, has 0x0 (since that it has not yet been rooted) and I'd like to keep it that way.
So, my question is: is there a rooting method that will not trip my knox?

And downgrading is not possible either, so I'm kinda stuck for now, huh...

I dont care about the the knox status, but I want to change the custom status to update my phone with Samsung updates. I downloaded TriangleAway v3.26 but I cant choose the option (see attachment). As I understand I can use the App to block the status but it doesnt work. And I have no idea what "System executable needed to implement workaround not found" means. Where can I find the workaround and where shall I store it on my device ?
The second message I dont understand too. I dont find another version in the play store... I think its the same version like in the board?
Maybe someone could help me

You can also install xposed framework and use the cosmetic system normal mod. This will make it look "Official" in settings...
I don't know if this will allow OTA, most people just use ODIN to flash what they want - but you most definitely will loose root doing an OTA.

If the device is rooted. I would never suggest OTA updates. Odin is the way to go.

Hi Ninomaxx,
The Knox 0x1 that you see doesn't lock or block you from doing anything. It's only there to tell the carrier/manufacturer that you have modified your software, thus losing your warranty. Other than that, it doesn't do anything else. To root your device, I suggest you search the forums, you'll find a guide, I'm sure.

Bootloader is "upgraded" when you flash stock 4.4 over 4.3.
And your warranty doesnt necessarily get voided because, if youre in the EU, statutory law dictates that service centres have to prove that the malfunction was directly caused by us changing or modifying system software. This is statutory law in the EU only. See here https://fsfe.org/freesoftware/legal/flashingdevices.en.html

That's my considering. My System Status = Official. I am worrying about after i root my device, the system status change to "Custom" ==> my device cannot update OTA anymore.
So The "System status" change to Custom after I root my device????? :good:

Correct. Then you wont receive official samsung updates. However, if you switch roms then devs will update their base as and when a new base becomes available. So in heinsight you're not really missing out on anything because you're getting the update plus more so I guess in this case (if you root) you get more for your money

Try this :
1. Odin back to original stock (if you're already on stock, ignore this step)
2. Odin to root your device (TowelRoot or Root de la Vega)
3. Install Xposed Framework + Wanam Xposed, then in "Security hack" choose "Fake system status" (this will change your OS to "Official")
4. Reboot twice, Enable SuperSu Pro, check the Survival Mode option
5. Install the OTA update.
6. Disable Survival Mode in SuperSu Pro.
This should get you OTA updates AND root. Enjoy
Let me know how it went.

First of all, I believe, most of the people using XDA forums possess enough eyesight to view things in normal font. (and if not, there are numerous tools available to help them read or even listen to what is written). So you don't need to make your writing so big and bold that looks harsh. If you want to emphasize, you can use emoticons/smilies (that is what they are meant for). I don't want to be rude but to keep this platform clean and nice is OUR responsibility. Hope you don't mind.
As for as your problem, I think you have to flash back the stock recovery and (even the stock rom if the problem persists). Do some more research before taking any step or wait for solutions from experts. I believe guys will see your post soon
Best of luck :good:

Rooting or Installing Custom Recovery = Knox 0x1. There's nothing you can do about it. You cannot change it back to 0x0. It is permanent. No more warranty.
For the error you need to disable knox. Read here on how to disable knox.

As much as I know for now, the knox once tripped is impossible to recover. May be there is some hardware switch thing associated with it. Anyhow, I think it does not make much difference because knox can only be a problem if you ever want to reclaim your warranty or re-sale the device. In my case, I am 99% sure that the device is working perfect to my needs and I don't have to claim the warranty or resale it within the warranty period. So if you don't have to claim warranty and also you don't want to re-sale, tripped knox is nothing to worry about
best of luck :good:
