Hey guys I hope you dont have any objections to this, if it is against any policies you have just let me know.
Ok the meat is, I am forming a very early stage start up.
I am UK based with (sadly!) no language skills so youll have to be English speaking.
I am seeking a developer to help me put together a prototype software suite.
I do not know this platform AT ALL, so youll have to know how to acces databases via vpn.( may need knowledge of the server side too) youll also have to understand the operations of the bluetooth stack with regards to sending print files.
And lastly you will need to be able to implement and debug a visual input sytem.
Its actually quite basic stuff, but I have no time to learn it as my bank wants to see a prototype ASAP.
Again I apologise if this is against your policy, but I need to get the ball rolling.
To clarify, as I am currently in patenting process I cant discuss much yet, but this can go two ways;
1: If you have the skills I need and spare time we agree on a price and timescale, I pay you for your work, then you walk away.
2: We discuss the project, you come on board with skills provided in return for a percentage of company.
This could be a great oppurtunity either way.
Thanks for listening.
I would prefer an email at [email protected]
What will it take?
I was disappointed to see no responses but oh hey!
SO? what am I doing wrong? what would it take to get some development skills in my pocket?
I would offer a go on the missus but shes not speaking to me right now for ignoring her.
Any advice pos' or negative would be cool.
Cheers guys.
If I were you I'd scan the Development forum and look at our community developers to see what they have done. Some of the more popular and highly respected are
A_C for S2U2 and S2V
Tene for PocketCM and PCM Keyboard
Thundershadow14 for PocketMelody and PictureFlow
DotFred for TaskManager and PPCPIMBackup
Vijay555 for (too much to name)
Slither2006 for SCLPC++
Grumps for iPhone App
I'm sure I missed out a lot of others with some real quality stuff. But I'm just naming off those who has produced software that I use most frequently and/or always see at the top of the Development forum cause the thread is so active. Sorry if I offended anyone by not naming them.
So check out the guys that I listed above and see if they have exhibit the skills that you need require for your project. Also if you need help with the design-side we also have plenty of good GUI/skinning guys.
Appreciated.
I will go check the area you suggested, so thanks for the heads up.
At the moment I am just interested in a rough and ready usable system to show the bank, but Ill definately remember your offer if they like what they see.
Again, thanks bud. And wish me luck.
PS If I wanted to learn the coding myself, do you think it would be completely improbable to do so myself in say 4 weeks?
(I am a mechanical engineering student so not completely dense but pretty busy).
And where would be a good place to start?
Thanks in advance.
You have to find a C++ book and get comfy with that. Then you'd have to look at the Windows Mobile SDK and combine the knowledge of both. Plus its trial and error because its running on different hardware.
Its a daunting task. It took me a good year fulltime to become a decent website developer. The hard part is thinking like a "programmer". Otherwise it'll look like its an alien language
Good luck with it.
Hey Mate,
I'd love to help although I've never worked in the areas you require. I'd recommend posting a slightly more detailed job requirements criteria so you may attract the right young budding enthusiast.
If you're creating software a bank will wish to use then the security side of the VPN will need to be top notch along with the methods in which the app will access data.
Unfortunately I'm more of a GUI designer and the only databases I access are the MS POOM databases for Outlook.
Good Luck!
Can I add I'd _never_ take someone seriously who's asking to reply to a hotmail.* / gmail.* / yahoo.* etc etc, address.

Erm Ok !!! I dont know what to say to that. That is the account I use most often. I didnt claim to rep IBM! This is a personal project and Im just trying to make contacts.
Regarding an other post above, The VPN is further down the road and not needed yet. Also the software will not be USED by a bank just shown to them as a proof of concept.
At that point I would be able to go beyond an overdraft to an actual business loan and be able to contract a developer.
It is hard for me to Give much detail without an NDA as my idea is not revolutionary but the application is novel.
If I were to discuss openly I would lose the ability to patent down the line.
It is essentially A GUI that I need, and a simple underlying app which will give me the ability to enter a small description in 30 odd fields.
When each field is selected a score of -1 is applied (the field value is initially zero).
At the end of a session, ( there will be an option to open new or close a session) a score is given to each field and depending on score, one of 90 text files (3 per field) is linked to.
A print file containing these 30 text files on one page and a score from 0 to -10 for each field in a table on the other page is then produced.
The database access and VPN would come later on but in the prototype that is all thats needed.
Im sorry thats about all the exp' I can give in open. But if you feel you could help and would like to get involved I could arrange an NDA.
I am currently speaking to a couple of people but there is nothing concrete yet so if at all interested, do get in touch.
Thanks for reading (and please take me seriously whatever my Email.)
solved.
Just in case anyone was interested, I finally found help on a site called Rentacoder so if anyone else is looking for development help, try there.
Cheers.
MAJOR EDIT: Started over, I need fresh ideas!
I'm bored, I got Basic4PPC andI want to make a little freeware app. Seeing how much people wanted another unit converter, I dropped the towel before entering the shower (pushing the metaphor to far...) and decided to consult the experts.
What would be THE best idea for a Pocket PC application? I was thinking about a small app to launch many applications from a single hardware button with some cool UI and all, but it's been down quite a couple of times.
I don't think that a unit converter can be sold easily... I mean: I don't need it, and if I would: there are so much freeware alternatives.
And about your goals:
- only one file... why?
- Try to make it modulair: easier to extend
sounds like a good idea, but why not have currency converter, in fact what would be a cool idea is if it can download a table of exchange rates on startup so that it gives you an accurate conversion figure.

I agree, who would buy a unit converter... for instance I use google to convert for me on my phone. Easy and fast to use. I don't really know why I would need to convert a number fast.
I chose a unit converter for ease of use, but since the project is a day old or so, it's the right time to tell me what to make!

No I think if you want to make something which you want to sell, you have to come up with the ideas yourself
I think you start at the wrong side. First think about what you want to make (what are you missing at the moment on your phone?), then try to create it and when it's finished you can always decide what to do with it. (shareware or freeware).
The thing is that most of the things are already available freeware.
I don't quite correspond to the typical PDA user. I'm 15 years-old, part time worker...
I can get ideas myself, but I can't really know what the average user wants. The best thing I can of right now would be a hardware button launcher.
When you'd press the button you'd be presented a big touch keyboard from which you could filter the available apps. It would launch the app then close itself. Good or no good?
Timesheet application?
Well, since you asked... This is the only app I used on my old palm device that I have not been able to replace on my PPC. It is a simple timesheet program that allows the user to record time spent on definable projects.
I have tried several of the commercial programs out there and they are all too complex or geared more for billable time and invoice generation. I just need something simple. The PALM program was freeware and can be seen here.
If you are interested in giving this a try I will be glad to give some more details on the desired functionality. The PALM program was not 100% of what I needed, just the best fit from what I could find.
Interesting. I actually made something similar in one of my Palm apps (which was never finished because I switched to WM).
I'll have a look at that. I'll try it as a filler, waiting for a great project.
P.S.: your themes are awesome!
That would be wonderful! The biggest things I would need are below:
Multiple projects with name and number (13 digit)
Ability to delete project from available list but keep past history
Day and Week summary view reports
Easy selection / clock in / clock out on main screen
Those are the main things. There are lots of ways to do this and I have ideas, but part of the fun of coding is UI design and code structuring. If you decide to take this one please let me know. I will be very happy to test for you.
Woah, calm down, I'm only about to complete the table. It looks like the screenshots for Timesheet right now (without final total, project selection and "today" button).
what about an app that can install automatically and in silent mode a big list of cabs. we should just have to select the destination : phone storage or sdcard. it would make reinstalls easier after rom updates .....
perhaps it already exist, i don't know ...
PROGRESS!!!
The thing is now useable! It saves date, in time, out time and calculates the difference between the two. When you exit it save your current data to load it when you launch.
Looks like this:
Date In Out Time
08/08/2008 17:15 17:20 00:05
And it adds one row for each in/out.
Sample coming soon.

Interesting idea, but I doubt people would pay for it.
CAB File!
Here's the working version. It yet has to show total time, money owed and all, but that's a good start!
Does anyone know a better CAB making app? This one sucks.

basically exists as user customisation... a new thing where cabs from storage card can be installed if u basically make an xml file with links to all the needed cabs

I am impressed. Then again, I don't have a WM dev environment. It is running fine so far on my P4300 WM6. Thanks for taking this on! There is nothing out there right now that is simple and clean.
I'm about to cancel all that crap right now. After a hard day of work, it was all made useless because Basic4PPC can't freakin' handle tables as it should. Thus instead of getting the standard plain white tables with grey headers, I get some ugly dark gray filling where there is no data. Then thing get even uglier when scrolling is needed. That kind of crap is enough to make me quit.
Unless you guys can get me something actually worth its price, forget about my app, I'm too pissed off to continue and all the files went straight to the bin.
Hey all,
I have been in contact with the author of the Dynamo task switcher program for a little while now, and he has decided to give up work on a new version of the program because he does not have enough time to devote to it anymore (if you haven't heard of it, look here: http://www.aspecto-software.com/punbb/viewforum.php?id=2). As such, he's released the source code, which I am posting here. I'm hoping some industrious programmers here with some time on their hands could have a look at it, and finish where he left off. Here is what he's written about it.
"Although I truly think Dynamo is a great application and deserves to be maintained, I have been unable to find enough time to finish off and release a new version.
The source you'll find here is an almost completed new version of Dynamo that I had hoped would work on phones. As you may be aware, Dynamo 2 will not work on Windows smartphones and the aim of this version was to create a single version that worked on both standard PDAs and phones.
When built, the current code will execute on a phone and try to hook up one of the hard-keys as a key to launch Dynamo. When clicked, this key will then activate Dynamo and show the programs in the dynamo interface as expected (if this fails for any reason simply manually launch Dynamo again to activate it). The apps can then be selected as per Dynamo's normal behaviour. The program is indeed near completion. In my opinion all that needs to be done to get it completed (for the phone at least) is to correctly identify the applications that are phone operating system ones and not worth displaying (you'll notice that currently Dynamo displays a few applications that are OS caretaking apps, and can't really be selected), and to generally tidy up the interface to make it look nice for release.
Please note that all the code is released under the GNU software license, as follows...

This is great news! I just tried 3d alt tab yesterday, but it lacks the random access that Dynamo gives. Also with the Xperia coming out soon I expect this kind of animated task switcher will become very popular (for phones that are not the xperia of course).

Yeah, I think the random access on this program if far superior to the 3D alt-tab program that is being developed here. I've been using Dynamo 2 for months now, and it's really fantastic, just needs landscape support, exclusion ability, and a couple other tweaks and it'd be perfect. According to the author the new version posted here only requires a little more work to complete, so hopefully someone will look into it.
Pretty please?
bump.

Come on people, this is probably the greatest task-switcher program ever written for Windows Mobile and there's not a single developer on here that wants to put the finishing touches on an almost completely written code?!
I second to that!!!
+1
People - come on, join with this, the more requests we get, the more the probability rises that someone will notice this and act.
Strongly agree

It means being able to instantly access any of running programs (so you can see list/thumbnails of _all_ running programs and just click the one you need), as opposed to sequential access (only next and previous program) used in 3d alt-tab.

Freaking bump
hi can someone point a place to download microsoft access mobile
thx
Access
If you are talking of the Access Database, then I am afraid you are out of luck, as MS stopped support for Access on the PDA in WM5 (if memory serves me correctly, may have been earlier).
What you will need to do is to go to a 3rd party database that will translate and synch with your existing MS Access databases. Personally I use SprintProDB, but there are many others.
Again, you need to be aware of the synch issues as well as usability, so I would strongly recommend going for the trial and field testing the voracity of each developers claims to functionality and synchronisation. FYI, Sprint Pro is at: http://www.kaione.com/
It's dang expensive but haven't seen many other options. I'm a teacher and just need it to keep grade book primarily. there's a program called Gradebook for oh my - 400$! about same as SprinDB wish they'd be reasonable atleast Someone needs to develop something openSource

Truly, nobody says dang unless they are on US TV! As to the expense, I am pretty sure you will find SprintPro is not that expensive, its only around 30-40 not 400, so suck it up, pay the man for the work done and see if you can set this as a task for your students to complete as a project.
simple spread sheet in excell?
SQL Server CE 3.5 Works well on WM 6 by the way. Its great as a database and also comes with the Desktop like Query Analyzer.

Hi all devs!
Are there any developers that would like to create a new windows mobile application?
The idea is to create a loan manager application to keep track of private loans to friends and family. I'm not talking about a financial applications, but a utility that lets you mange stuff (like books, movies, CD, video games, money, hardware tools, wine, you name it) that friend and other borrows from you (or what you borrows from others). I have searched google with all kinds of keywords without finding any suitable applications.
I see the following as key features:
1) Finger friendly
2) Integration with the camera, it's often quicker to take picture of the object rather then describing it with words (taking a picture of the borrower as well could be a quick way of relate the object with a person).
3) Integration with contacts (to relate a loan to a contact).
4) Integration with the calendar, make a record of the loan date and time, and a reminder for when the object is due to be returned (as a new record in the calendar).
5) Editable quick list or templates for standard lone types (objects)
6) Intuitive GUI that is quick in operation.
7) Pleasing graphics, support for all screen resolutions
I would like to see this as a free tool, but I would gladly donate to the developer for a useful application.
Regards,
PK
Any volunteers?

PK
i would also love to see a program like this made.... the ones that are out or no where close to this and arent finger friendly thats for sure.
Great! Then we are two..

I let friends of mine borrow stuff really often, and this would really help me to keep track of it all. Currently I'm using notes, but some app like this would be way better!

Would be really simple, youcould just ask permision from one of the fuel tracker devs and use that as a baseline. I would start to do that but I am lucky enough to be heading to iraq soon and dont have time
Hope you get a nice trip Appreciate your offer anyway!
