They have lost their marbles... As far as specs aren't they identical to the Note 10.1 2014 just a larger screen and more internal storage?

Wow. If this is accurate and I have no doubt that it is then it's past my threshold for what I want to spend for a tablet. I don't even think 100.00 more should be right. Lower the 10.1 the same 100.00 to offer a cheaper than usual price point and make the 12.2 500.00.

So if you figure 10.1 2014 16gb is $549 and 32gb is $599 would a 64gb unit be $649 or $699.
So now add USB 3.0 and a much larger screen...... yeah...... $849 is about right.

This.
Let's assume the 32GB is $749. Add on the matching Logitech Keyboard for $130 and you're at $879. There are a lot of ultrabook, convertible, and Surface-esque options in that price range. I guess based on Samsung's typical tiered pricing $749/849 shouldn't be a surprise but that's a heap load of money for an Android tablet. The phone UI looks funky on our 10" display. The Notification Panel icons are probably about two inches square on a 12" display. And all the historic Android productivity challenges that we (and all those that came before us) suffer extend to the Tab/Note Pro's too. So Samsung went with "build it and they will come." At those prices let's see how many "come."
LOL.
Samsung has lost it. I don't think even Apple would price a 12 inch iPad that high. Bunch of goofballs, I want whatever they're on.

I agree. Compared to the 10.1 tablets I do not see the price as being out of line. Sure it is not for everyone but it is far from being stupidly priced...at least not when compared to other tablets on the market.
I don't see the market for it. Seems too expensive for an entertainment device. Android falls pretty short as a business tool compared to the other options in that price range.

The 64gb iPad is $699 and $799 for a 128gb so I think you will see $899 for the 12.9 inch tablet that Apple will releases later this year.

That's really a lot of money for a tablet. I'm not saying its overpriced in regards to specs vs profit margin... But I think consumers may not be willing to shell out that much scratch for a tablet

I bought SM-P605 32 GB for around 850US, so I rather buy NotePro 12.2 WiFi 64GB for that money and I got no use for LTE anyway. In US maybe its much, but in EU its cheap price and in Sweden I think it gonna cost around 1200US. Only SM-P 605 16 GB cost 1200US here in Sweden.
Galaxy Note SM-P605
Samsung's really suffering from a severe case of wishful thinking. The Tab|Pro 8.4 is $50 more than the Note 8 ($349 vs. $399) which I guess is excusable because the former's got some big upgrades over the latter (SoC, display resolution). The Tab|Pro 10.1 is the same price as the N10.1-14 and they are physically identical with the latter having more RAM and S Pen. The 16GB iPad Mini Retina is $399 so Samsung's looking for the same cash for the Tab|Pro 8.4. The 16GB iPad Air is $499 so Samsung wants the same thing for the Tab|Pro 10.1. Good luck with that one; especially since the N10.1-14 at least has an exclusive feature (S Pen) that could possibly justify a price point that matches Apple's. I really do think Samsung's crossed in to the delusional and the new tablet's pricing is nuts and the positioning (or lack of) against their existing/previous tablets is just going to leave people confused.
Wait wtf..TabPro in the US = note 10.1 2014 price? lol. Who the hell would get the TabPro for the same price (assuming they are equally informed about the note). Considering you are paying the same price for less features.

The prices I posted are the pre-order prices buying direct from the Samsung U.S. website. They haven't changed. But once early adopter buying helps judge interest I bet you'll see "$50 (or more) off for a limited time;" perhaps as early as a month to six weeks. I admire Samsung's ambition but people didn't buy tons of Nexus 10's with its "iPad equal" display so relying on lipstick (M-UX), a focus on productivity (every included app is available third party on any Android tablet), and h/w improvements (if h/w is all that matters why do they sell so many Tab 2/3's?) to get people to buy high-end Android tablets at Apple prices I wish them luck. They'll probably spend a gazillion dollars promoting the new tablets and God knows that amount of marketing helped them get where their are in smartphones so maybe that'll work. I'm in marketing and think this whole high-end tablet (pricing and features) push is going to fall flat. When people think of tablets they think Apple=high-end and Android=cheap and that's what sales (even Samsung's in 2013) reflect.
Ye I got what you meant. I'm sure Samsung is testing the waters and see how many will take the bait. If its less than their target then they will surely rethink their stand.

Wow that is ridiculously high. If thats a final price they most certainly wont sell crap. Not only will Apple own them but also the Playbook. I was planning to buy this tablet but now im concerned about the pricing. They need to sell this tablet at a reasonable price of $400-$600 dollars. However, I doubt this will be how much it costs. It mostly likely will go down. Wayyyy down.
Here here.
Looks like a great device, but they can't be serious about that pricing?
£500 max, absolute max. Just because the iPad is overpriced, doesn't mean Moto can get away with outpricing the overpriced.
Would be a tragedy for such a good device to fail or sell poorly purely due to pricing.
Most of us did not count in the price of the accessories yet… I think we need at least a standard dock which will cost us approximate another US100.
I wont pay more than USD1k for a tablet that does not support SD card, it is too far away from the budget for a tablet. I will focus my attention to the alternative android 3.0 tablets from Asus & Acer which will costs us approximate $400-$700.
I hate those webshops that try to profit from early adopters..
Wait....is this wifi only version or have 3G???

The rumor is that the iPad 2 will be cheaper than the original. If the prices I'm seeing on this are true, and the rumors hold for iPad 2 there is no way I can drop that kind of coin on a Xoom.

I haven't heard of a wifi only version for Europe. The information available is very vague though.
I don't think we should worry about these pricing rumours. The Nexus S was overpriced for a week before release and the Galaxy Tab was overpriced in the weeks/months before release too. These are almost certainly just guesses, we don't even know if there is an option for carrier subsidy, Wi-Fi only, etc yet

My past experience with android device told me not to trust any update/upgrade promise from the manufacturer. The update/upgrade will never come true as soon as your expectation. with this unacceptable high pricing, I wont consider it until it had supported SD card.
BTW, does Xoom support USB Host mode?
If another Android device has it I would think the Xoom would have it or easily get hacked to it.
Seems Mr Jobs was correct when he said that others could not match the pricing of the iPad.
I will go nuts if I pre-order and the price drops after a few weeks/months...
They should put it on contract £25 a month would be cool.then everyone could get one

I'm not sure why everybody is going nuts because some "eXpensive" retailer has put a random pre-order price on their website.
Facts:
- Samsung Galaxy S pre-order on "eXpensive" website was €799,- (waaay overpriced)
- "eXpensive" already replaced their Xoom price with "Price Not Known"
- I've seen pre-order prices for Xoom as high as $1023,-
Chill everybody... just wait for Motorola to give us the official price point. Any day now.
I don't think that Motorola will make the same mistake as Samsung did with their Tab.
As for the iPad fans: I seriously doubt that the iPad2 will be cheaper then the current iPad. Expect the current iPad to drop in price, and better hope (for your sake) that the iPad2 price is equal but not higher then the iPad is today.

Ok, before you all get your panties in a bunch. This WILL NOT be the pricing of the Xoom when it launches and I will give my left arm for that.
Can any of you remember back a couple months back before the Galaxy Tab launched in the UK? Prices were being quoted in the range of £650 and like a week after it launched you could get it for damn nearly half that.
It's these stupid sites like eXpansys and the like that jack up the pre-release prices before any actual prices have been announced.
At MAX it may start off at £599 on some sites then then sharply come down to between £450-550....that's my opinion but like they say 'opinions are like @ssholes, everybody's got them...'

I'm starting to see reports that the price for the Samsung tablet has indeed changed in order to compete. Can anyone confirm? thanks
http://www.htcflyer.tk/smartphones/smart-phone/samsung/samsung-galaxy-tab-10-1-release-date
http://gadgetian.com/14647/samsung-galaxy-tab-10-1-wi-fi-june-8-price/
Here are 2 links..
I hope it will be $399 for the wifi 16GB, but I don't really think we will get that price on june 8th
This is getting me closer and closer to canceling my order with JR,, you think they will refund 100$ if the released price is less then what we paid?
I wouldn't say those links were reliable, but best buy still hasn't posted the price and we are only a few days away. That whats got me thinking that the 16GB $399 price is a possibility.
$399 would be a killer price. I would be surprised if they dropped it that low though right out of the gate although the TF is that price. I wonder if that would make the 8.9 $369.. I wish we could get more info on that model too.
Word is Samsung is try to compete with Apple's price. That's interesting what you said about the 8.9 being below the $399 mark. I see that appealing to business user even more. Would make sense if their are trying to make a big splash right from the start. But for now I going to just take it as a rumor until can confirm.
It's a rumor. They said at CTIA, when they were announced, that the 10.1 would be $499 and the 8.9 would be $469.
Agreed.
They already announced pricing.
Yeah they already announced pricing and I think it will still be $499/$469 although one could make an argument that the Tab 10.1 being thin doesn't justify $500 when the TF has IPS,SD slot and I believe HDMI all built in. Though it's not as thin.
IMO the problem with Android devices is there isn't much to separate them from one another other than price. Tegra2,HC,1GB, 16/32GB seems to be the basic specs.
Like I said give us a date for the 8.9 model
amazing if true, and would be an instant buy for me.. but i hope this means that samsung isn't cutting corners to make it happen. and i really hope that micro sd slot is there for the wifi only come june 8th
I don't believe the rumors of the price drop for an instant. Samsung doesn't have to price itself to beat the iPad 2, it just has to beat the other Android tablets, and looking around at what we got, I think Samsung has done that.
I'm not sure I'm buying a Galaxy Tab 10.1, because of the no micro SD slot. But I have a feeling Samsung is probably gonna be selling these things faster than they can make them for a while.
What I'm not certain about is the June 8th launch date though. They canceled that May 24th event for some reason and I don't think we've heard much lately. And two retailers, Office Max and JR.com are saying they aren't getting the Galaxy Tab 10.1 until late June (Office Max says June 24th specifically).
It could still happen on June 8th, but just at bigger retailers like Best Buy, Amazon and such and Office Max and JR.com are being made to wait, that wouldn't exactly be new. And Best Buy just put that page up. But it still makes me wonder.
It may not have to beat the iPad2 but it still has the TF that's $100 cheaper and from reading around it seems having and SD/microSD slot and HDMI built in which is a big deal for some.
The memory slot or HDMI don't matter to me but it does to some.
I like you wonder is the release date still the 8th. So little is being said at this point and still no 8.9 official date to my knowledge.
If they push the 8.9 till late July I'm probably going to start looking at other options

Transformer is the only decent tablet out right now in my eyes and at it's price it's going to be a very compelling alternative to the Galaxy Tab 10.1, especially with the micro SD and mini HDMI ports. I cancelled my pre-order for the GT 10.1 and just bought a Transformer again (had one before and returned it).
I've been on the fence between the Transformer and GT 10.1 for over a month. The micro SD is really big to me, because I don't believe 16GB of storage will fill my needs. So if I buy a GT 10.1, I'll have to spend $600 for the 32GB model. Since the Transformer has micro SD, I can buy the $400 16GB model and insert a 16GB card if I need more space. I'm saving $180 after you factor in a $20 16GB micro SD card for the Transformer.
But I'm giving up a lot of comfort. The Transformer isn't that heavy (much lighter than the Xoom and A500), but still quite a bit heavier compare to the GT 10.1. And the GT 10.1 has nice rounded edges on all sides. The Transform has a lot of corners, especially when held in portrait mode, it's not comfortable at all. This alone makes me think maybe the GT 10.1 32GB might be worth almost $200 more.
Transformer is a great tablet and I hope I'll be happy with the decision I made. But I don't think as many people really are going to put as much value into the micro SD slot as I do, or even that sweet keyboard dock (I can't even get one). The Galaxy Tab 10.1 is going to win hearts with it's sleeker look and design and better ergonomics and comfort. People will pay more for that.
I tend to agree with the review of GTab 10.1 IO Edition below:
http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/0...ablet-when-size-does-matter-xoom-comparisons/
The weight and size are important factors for using a tablet.
I have an iPad2 that weigh just 600gram, and even that I feel quite uncomfortable to hold it very long
I know, I am skinny and I need to go to the gym ... but well, yeah ... GTab 10.1 for me
I hope your new Transformer is better than the last one, I returned mine and I'm now getting fed up with waiting for UK GT 10.1 prices, dates and spec. If it doesn't work out price wise then I think I'll likely try another Transformer, so long as I can get a good one.
I fall into the like the sleek looking stuff so the 10.1/8.9 for me but cheaper is always better I have a 16gb iPhone4 and it's not close to being full so the 16GB device would be fine. HDMI doesn't matter as nothing on the tablet I'd want to view that I wouldn't be able to view via PS3,PC,Laptop, etc
I just want to get some type of time frame. I heard the 10.1 may be pushed back and wonder if that is going to push back the 8.9.
If it's too much later then me being me would start looking at the HP WebOS device. Then you have the Amazon tablet later.
If the 8.9 get's pushed too late into the summer I may just wait on the quad cores or see what Windows ARM OS does

Its up on Amazon,..no price just like best buy. Things are getting interesting!
I had the Galaxy tab 10.1 limited edition for a few days (I was one of the lucky 5000 google io attendees). It was very solid and nice... and I sold it for over $900 in ebay and then bought a transformer from bestbuy for $433 (including taxes and shipping). Transformer is nice but GT is better (except the ports). My wife was so surprised how light the GT was (I also owned Gtablet and Nook color).
Anyways, I am returning my transformer to bestbuy and will get one from Amazon as soon as they start selling..(signed up for the alert). The extra $100 dollars is worth it.. GT 10.1 (by far) the best tablet out of all my past collection.(gtablet, nook color and transformer). Well, it is definitely not worth $900.. but $500 is a deal ( in my opinion).
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Samsung...32&skuId=2817582&st=galaxy tab 10.1&cp=1&lp=1
Indication of a newer model on the way?
it has been at this prince since Jan. 2012
Best buy has a weekly add that shows it as $100 off.
Yeah, I just bought this at that price. The 8.9 dropped $50 as well. The sale ends the 10th of March.
Some things to keep in mind though...
- The G-Tab 2 is meant to be a replacement for the originals. According to Nvidia they've lost Samsung as a customer so the 1GHz chip in the G-Tab 2 might not be Teg2 (a good thing).
- No Android tablet will sell for more than the iPad (and they barely sell at the same price). The 11.6 will most likely be the same price as the iPad3. The G-Tab 2 will most likely be Samsung's "value" tablet and sell at $399ish in 16GB with the Note 10.1 somewhere in between.
- When the G-Tab 2 is released prices on the original will probably drop further to get rid of existing stock.

But somehow, being the most expensive, offering the least number of expansion ports, and having the most expensive accessories they've managed to retain the highest market share of any Market-capable tablet manufacturer. As long as that continues they have no incentive to change their behavior. And if the iPad3 keeps the same pricing as the iPad2 Samsung will be iucky to get $599 for the 11.6 better yet the G-Tab 2.
http://techcrunch.com/2012/03/05/fo...vs-ipad-how-does-amazons-kindle-fire-compare/
I think the new iPad and especially the mini are going to really choke out the premium tablet segment. They are going to sell huge, especially with the timing with holidays.
I will not be surprised to see a price drop of at least $50 next month or early December. That is when I would get the 2014
My concern though is this would force the Android tablets further into the lower end segments that could mean middle road specs. ASUS might be selling the new 701 into a market segment that has very small remaining share. That assumes they get the Tegra 4 to behave as far as battery bleed and throttle issues.
Point in this being Apple will sell millions while Android OEs selling premium Android tablets would sell thousands due to small market share.
Its already gone from £479 to £439 on Amazon.co.uk.
It was £100 overpriced to start off with especially with a plastic exterior.
I was so ready to purchase this and have money burning a hole in my pocket. Already own an ipad min, ipad 4, nexus 7 2013 and wanted a full size Android tablet.
Considered the Z until its completely rubbish ppi screen was detailed and then eagerly waited the Note. Was extremelydis appointed in the build quality and design but more more horrified at the price. Will be waiting for news on the Nexus 10 whilst also buying an ipad air and retina mini.

May I ask what you do with all of those tablets? Or are you just getting rid of the old (relatively speaking) ones once you buy a new one?
some of us are just collectors, lol. i do resell some or pass them down to other family members. since 2010 i've had a total 21 tablets and currently own a 2014, gn8, 500t, and 700t. the 500t is going to my daughter once i get around to repair the screen - it's the only tablet i ever bought insurance on and the only one i've ever dropped, lol.
the 8in is my main book reader, the 10.1 is my main web/multimedia tablet and the windows tablets i got as an experiment to see if i could do without a laptop (even though they're kinda laptop hybrids) and to see if i could do without android - i failed that miserably lol.
I just hope the iPad mini's price will drop. I love it but i can't afford to buy it.
I don't think the price of this tablet will drop much before the end of this year after the Samsung Perks package expires.
I am in need of a new tablet and the 2014 note 10.1 was going to be that device but the reviews and user experiences have swayed me away. I might reconsider if the price drops but with new devices like the ipad air/mini released and the upcoming nexus 10, the choices have become relatively overwhelming.
I am heavily invested in the android ecosystem with apps and games so warranting a switch to the "dark side" may be hard. Although the design and tablet specific apps are tempting. It seems like a good combination to have, I just dont want to have to re-purchase apps on ios and android. Anybody have this combinationof devices?
I think the nexus 10 is calling my name and I will most likely end up with it assuming the bugs and issues present on the first gen dont make there way to the 2nd gen.

Looks like a drop has already happened. Price went from $600/$650 to $550/$600 at Amazon & Best Buy.
As far as the Nexus, a lack of sd slot keeps me away. I only have the iPad since I could get 64GB for the iPad 3 and now have a 128GB iPad 4. Media and games are too big for smaller storage and I HATE the cloud. Local content has "100% data coverage and range" and better on battery life.

Dope! :silly: So in my mind, there already was one
This tablet is actually worth the money being asked for it, so you can wait to watch the prices drop or just buy it.
The original note 10.1 was 16 gigabytes was 499 when it debuted 1 year ago. Now the second generation came outand original drooped to 450. The note 10.1 very is unique and has no direct competition as in capacitive pen.

Yeah, I wouldn't expect a price drop any time soon... maybe in 6 months at best. It took the Note 8 about 6 months to drop a whopping $20, lol. Samsung is pretty stubborn with their pricing.
I have been waiting for the nexus 9 for over a year and was very happy with the outcome my issue is that the price premium for the 32GB model is too much. I have attached a comparison of the nexus's, ipads and tab s's.
I originally completed the comparision to see how the conversion between $ and £ was working out, which apparently is about $1.25 per £. This is in line with the competition, and makes sense bearing in mind the UKs higher VAT. I have to note that the conversion for the 32gb model was not as good ($1.20), so I compared the storage premium.
The new IPads jump from 16gb to 64gb for the same price that the nexus 9 jumps from 16gb to 32gb. This means that the cost of each extra GB for the nexus 9 is $5/£5 , whereas the ipads are $2.10/£1.67, which is less than half the price.
I am really annoyed at google for doing this, no way is 16GB of extra storage worth £80, but as the tablet has no expandable storage, I will have to pay the extra. If for £80 the storage jumped to 64GB like the IPads I would be a lot happier.
What do you guys think of the price difference of the models? Do you think there is any chance of google dropping the 32GB models price to make it more in line with Apple (I didn't think I would ever say that apple gives better value than google but that is the case).
I really think Google gone mad on pricing the Nexus line up this year. Most of the people bought Nexus Devices just b'coz of the competitive pricing.

good pricing, and because of the price, last years chips. to my understanding, the new devices use the new chips and if we don't get the annoying screen issues plaguing the N7.2 , will be worth it. I've already told them to take my money, even though I have very little of it, and swore I would not get one so soon due to the issue I have with my N7.2

a comparison of just ram specs alone is not enough. its like comparing cars just based on their trunk space alone . toss in chip (engine) and battery (gas tank) and a few other specs to make the comparison more realistic.

I know that the tablets all have different features. This was not meant to be a comparision of which tablet is the best value, I was just demonstrating how google has completely overpriced the 32GB model compared to the competition of which the IPad is the major one. The main point was the nexus 9 is the same price as the IPad mini 3 in the UK for the 16GB models but you can get the 64GB IPad mini 3 for the same price of the 32GB nexus 9.
So google should either bump the storage of the 32GB nexus 9 up to 64GB with no price increase or should knock £30-40 off the price to be more inline with its competitors. I have noticed that the price premium for the extra storage is not as much in the USA where the nexus 9 32GB is $20 cheaper than the IPad mini 3 64GB. I do not understand how there is $20 difference in the USA and no price difference in the UK.

Nexus 9

32Gb - $479
New Fire HDX 8.9 Without Special Offers (With Special Offers)

32GB - $444 ($429)
64GB - $494 ($479)
IPad Air
16GB - $399

IPad Air 2

64GB - $599
Galaxy Tab S 10.5 (8.4)
16GB - $499 ($399)
32GB - $549 (N/A)
The Nexus 9, specifications wise is meant to compete with the iPad Air 2. For an extra $80, you got to 32 GB from 16 GB while on the iPad Air 2, you go to 64GB from 16GB, but the base price starts at $100 more. The selling point over the Fire HDX, is accessibility and freedom.
I didn't think of looking at amazon.
So apple, samsung and amazon all charge $50 for a storage increase from 16GB to 32GB, whereas google is charging $80.
I am very disappointed in google for this, why did they not do the same as everyone else and charge $50 for the storage increase, which would have made the 32GB nexus 9 $449.
