Returning to stock - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all,
I want to return to an unrooted stock rom but just want to check things first before I do.....
If I download the latest stock firmware from samfirmware and flash with odin will I -
1- loose root???
2- be able to restore my data + apps etc using Titanium Backup or do I need root access (if lost) to do this???
3- need to flash anything else, modems etc???
Im experienced with flashing custom roms etc but have never returned to full stock on the S4.
Im waiting delivery of my NotePro 12.2 and am still using my Note 2 for work purposes and want all my devices to be able to talk to each orher as Samsung intended (well try it at least)

#1: you will loose root.
#2: you will not be able to restore apps+data using titanium backup (titanium backup requires root)
#3: you will need to root the phone by flashing a zip file like cf-autoroot.
#4: if the stock firmware you plan to flash is 4.3 you should read up and find out about KNOX first.
Good luck!

Just flashed 4.3 (XXUEMKF baseband MJ5 to be precise) and I can't turn wifi on what so ever....
Any tips, do I need to flash a new modem???
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app

Ok I'm now on stock 4.3 XXUEMKF both Baseband and Build.
When I go into Download mode I have no KNOX lines at all but my Binary is still custom.
I have tried to flash the wifi fix modem from the modem post - but as there is no MJ5 modem non seem to work (tried the mod and the me modems) still nothing....
Any advise from anyone would be greatly received!!!!

Flash one of this modem to solve the problem
**If you are having the old bootloader flash GSM_Modem_XXUEMJ5_and_LTE_Modem_XXUBMH1.tar file with odin by selecting phone.
**If you are having the new bootloader flash GSM_Modem_XXUEMJ5_and_LTE_Modem_XXUEMJ5.tar file with odin by selecting phone.

[Q] Full nandroid backup without custom recovery ?

After doing some searches on the forum :

I was wondering if there is now a secure method to full backup my i9505 (nandroid) with full system and data. The fact is I have a rooted Galaxy S4 with prerooted ROM and I would like to keep my status official for warranty matters. After reading the threads I've posted, it seems none of the methods is really what I search
May I do it in a different way ?
Thank a lot.
No. Just backup with custom recovery and then reflash stock recovery. Status is official and you have warranty.
Maybe you have to use TriangleAway after reflash.

Well, finally I could do it using BusyBox and Online Nandroid Backup * ROOT and I obtained a CWM-like backup. However, to restore it (here comes the second problem ! ) I have to flash a custom recovery, so Samsung Status will be changed again...

GT-I9505 Post custom rom problems. Want stock back!!

So here i am with a brand new GS4 GT-I9505 and i thought it would be clever to do what i did with my GS2 and root and flash a custom rom to it (Cyanogenmod 10.1 through TWRP)
Clever me forgot to back it up !!!NOOB!!! (but thats beside the point)
Now im stuck with this rom with wifi doesnt work or mobile data and a host of other problems (Such as every time i turn the device off i have to reset the time and date!)
I have looked on the net for weeks and cannot find a way to revert back to the original stock version of my phone as i wish to have this back with all of its features. Main problem being is that every video or text help that i find is for other versions of the phone. Really frustrating as i do not want to destroy/brick the phone.
Would appreciate if anyone could help me in restoring my phone to its original state/factory state. Am pulling my hair out over this. Im not new to this however step by step would be also appreciated
Details of the device:
Device - GT-I9505 (Orange/EE) Android 4.2.2
Cyanogenmod -10.1-20130509-UNOFFICAL-i9505
Custom Recovery - TWRP

Yes this will work no plm even if u have diffrnt baseband
for example u can flash any latest firmware which is available for any region without any issues "Not China" there some language is diffrnt if I m not wrng
But make sure its only for the variant u have like i9505 etc
Edit I always suggest take a back up of EFS of your device for safety

Installing a pre rooted ROM won't give you stock/factory state.
If you really want your Official EE ROM go to Sammobile and download it.
Download triangle away to reset flash counter and as soon as its reset boot to download mode and flash Official stock EE ROM. No root.

Just wait until the right 4.4.2 ROM is available in your Country and flash it with Odin. Make sure you got the samsung driver installed! In Odin just check F.TIME RESET and AUTO REBOOT and choose in PDA your downloaded ROM.
(Maybe after that you have to make a "factory" reset under the settings in your Note3
My god!
My last phone was Sony Xperia S, and to do a clean install all i have to do is to say to the software update that i want a clean install...
I am a litle scare right now... dont know what is odin...
Just wait for ota to arrive, install it and afterwards go to settings, general, back-up and restore and do a factory data reset. Make sure you have a backup of things you need afterwards.
Sent from my SM-N9005 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
If you scared I recommend you that you don't do it. It's possible to hard brick your phone.
Also you have to check bootloader update in Odin, otherwise your phone gets a bootloop.
Don't try this if you not know what you are doing!!!
Also you can't step back to an earlier rom if you flash the the official 4.4.2 version cause bootloader is locked and atm there are no solutions for that.

Yip if you are scared to do it. Don't. You need to read up and read some more. Playing with firmwares is tricky and you can ruin your phone.

Just download the 4.4.2 the Official from Poland,Do a Factory Reset /wipeDATA/Cache
Then go to Download mode, open ODIN 3.07 and start.

If you flash XEO Official version, your data stays intact and nothing gets lost. -- IF you have a Hong Kong variant don't flash this at all.
EDIT:: You seem very very unsure, I'd advise you don't do it. Because you will be straight back here if you mess up.

[Q] Is Supersu The Best Way To Unroot When Flashing Firmware Isn't Possible?

I need to be able to unroot my phone so that I can take it in for repair.
Apparently my phone (SGH-I337 - AT&T) cannot have firmware flashed to it in order to unroot it (apparently because I allowed an update to be installed a while back when I shoudn't have).
There's a lot of people recommending SuperSU for unrooting but the recommended procedures vary (primarily when it comes to which files you should manually delete and when exactly you should delete them) and there's also no mention of whether or not all traces of rooting are removed.
I'm really worried that I'll bring the phone in and they'll find something which indicates that the phone was rooted.
Note: I don't have any custom recovery or firmware installed. The phone has only been rooted using towelroot. Nothing else.

Wow, thank you very much for that info.! I really appreciate it.
Every set of instructions I had come across told me to flash either the I337ATTAMDL firmware or the I337UCUAMDB firmware, and attempting to flash either of those resulted in a FAIL in Odin.
Before I proceed, can you confirm that flashing this NB1 firmware will not trip KNOX or affect a flash counter (requiring a reset with TriangleAway)?
Also, real quick while I have your attention, do you happen to know of any custom firmware/ROM (eg, a version of CyanogenMod or something similar) that I can flash to my phone? Or am I completely out of luck in that department?

SM-N910C Rooting Questions

Hi Guys,
I ordered SM-N910C (Note4) and I should be able to received them sometime nextweek. Now, being said, rooting the device came into my mind .
1. SM-N910C (open line/ not carrier lock) can be rooted as long as its Boothloader unlocked , right? - if boothloader lock, is there a way to unlock it at this point?
2. Once I rooted and Installed TWRP/CWM, can I restore them to default/ Stock recovery ?
3. Once rooted, do I still get update on Samsung Apps via Samsung store?
4. Once rooted, Can i still update the firmware as soon as Samsung released new version such as 5.0 (understand that I need to manually upgrade it) - I think I read somewhere that if Note 4 is rooted, you will not be able to upgrade to 5.0 even doing it manually, im not sure if it is 100% correct.
5. Once rooted, other samsung apps will still work , right? such S Healh, S Voice, etc (all N4 feature).. is there any feature/ samsung app that stops working as soon as we root the device?
6. I know Note4 camera is really good, but I found this site, that we can still boost Note4 camera by replacing the camera apk, http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/how-boost-galaxy-note-4-camera-performance-using-mod-1473882 .. anybody already tested this ? wondering how it performs..
7. Planning to root it using CF Auto Root.
I understand that rooting N4 will trip Knox (let me know if there are new procedure that will not trip knox).
Thanks
1.You can root without touching bootloader.
2.Yes
3.Yes
4.Yes. but you have to flash stock ROM manually with odin (Never heard you can't flash ROM with odin bcoz of rooted status)
5.There may be some app got broken like S health, screen mirror and some banking app etc . but almost have FIX for it.
6.Your linked content is from XDA source only, search in theme and app section
7. My preferred method is flash CWM/TWRP and flash SuperSU zip (CF auto differ only by keeping recovery stock, which actually have no meaning but lot limitation is there)
No method there to root without tripping knox
PS : This topic goes to Q&A NOT in development
1.i don't think any note4's BL is Locked...or if there is any there will be unlockers soon.
2.yes, with odin.
3.yes.
4.you can update it with Odin.where do you Read it??! (if there was any problem you can use Custom Roms..Or Deodexed Lollipop Roms and Flash Them via Recovery)
5.i know if you root New Samsung Devices With CF-Root Method and others like it KNOX Will Trip...its mean All Security things that Use Knox will not work anymore Like Billing Services...go to settings/about phone and see them.
6......i don't know too
7.see 5.
i didn't root my N910C too and waiting for new procedure

Thanks, dr.ketan and genius.lizard2.
I;ve been looking for CF-Auto-Root file for Note 4 SM-N910C, and I only found this.
SM-N910C (Thailand, Exynos): CF-Auto-Root-trelte-treltexx-smn910c.zip
I am from Philippines , do you think above file will be compatible? What will be the effect? and I am not sure where my SM-N910C came from as I also saw bunch of SM-N910C from different country.
Thanks.

Please update us when you already rooted it and how it goes. My note 4 will arrive next week.
The cf-auto-root I found is Thailand version of SM-N910C, I'm afraid that it might not compatible with other version SM-N910C, or we encounter issues (different langauage?)

make a tar file with this img file...you can do it with linux or a batch file in windows like: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2446269

After rooting, would you recommend installing TWRP or just use stoxk recovery? And what is the advantage of TWRP over stock recovery?

With TWRP or other recovery, you can flash custom ROMs and MODs. That is the only purpose of it.
