Hi Guys,
I ordered SM-N910C (Note4) and I should be able to received them sometime nextweek. Now, being said, rooting the device came into my mind .
1. SM-N910C (open line/ not carrier lock) can be rooted as long as its Boothloader unlocked , right? - if boothloader lock, is there a way to unlock it at this point?
2. Once I rooted and Installed TWRP/CWM, can I restore them to default/ Stock recovery ?
3. Once rooted, do I still get update on Samsung Apps via Samsung store?
4. Once rooted, Can i still update the firmware as soon as Samsung released new version such as 5.0 (understand that I need to manually upgrade it) - I think I read somewhere that if Note 4 is rooted, you will not be able to upgrade to 5.0 even doing it manually, im not sure if it is 100% correct.
5. Once rooted, other samsung apps will still work , right? such S Healh, S Voice, etc (all N4 feature).. is there any feature/ samsung app that stops working as soon as we root the device?
6. I know Note4 camera is really good, but I found this site, that we can still boost Note4 camera by replacing the camera apk, http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/how-boost-galaxy-note-4-camera-performance-using-mod-1473882 .. anybody already tested this ? wondering how it performs..
7. Planning to root it using CF Auto Root.
I understand that rooting N4 will trip Knox (let me know if there are new procedure that will not trip knox).
Thanks
1.You can root without touching bootloader.
2.Yes
3.Yes
4.Yes. but you have to flash stock ROM manually with odin (Never heard you can't flash ROM with odin bcoz of rooted status)
5.There may be some app got broken like S health, screen mirror and some banking app etc . but almost have FIX for it.
6.Your linked content is from XDA source only, search in theme and app section
7. My preferred method is flash CWM/TWRP and flash SuperSU zip (CF auto differ only by keeping recovery stock, which actually have no meaning but lot limitation is there)
No method there to root without tripping knox
PS : This topic goes to Q&A NOT in development
1.i don't think any note4's BL is Locked...or if there is any there will be unlockers soon.
2.yes, with odin.
3.yes.
4.you can update it with Odin.where do you Read it??! (if there was any problem you can use Custom Roms..Or Deodexed Lollipop Roms and Flash Them via Recovery)
5.i know if you root New Samsung Devices With CF-Root Method and others like it KNOX Will Trip...its mean All Security things that Use Knox will not work anymore Like Billing Services...go to settings/about phone and see them.
6......i don't know too
7.see 5.
i didn't root my N910C too and waiting for new procedure

Thanks, dr.ketan and genius.lizard2.
I;ve been looking for CF-Auto-Root file for Note 4 SM-N910C, and I only found this.
SM-N910C (Thailand, Exynos): CF-Auto-Root-trelte-treltexx-smn910c.zip
I am from Philippines , do you think above file will be compatible? What will be the effect? and I am not sure where my SM-N910C came from as I also saw bunch of SM-N910C from different country.
Thanks.
Hi guys do you know if we can expect a knox 0x0 root method, like towelroot for our notes?
Not at this point, definitely rooting will trip Knox 0x1, at least for now.

now that i'm thinking....i can't wait anymore for Another method..i'm going for CF Root too.
Please update us when you already rooted it and how it goes. My note 4 will arrive next week.
The cf-auto-root I found is Thailand version of SM-N910C, I'm afraid that it might not compatible with other version SM-N910C, or we encounter issues (different langauage?)
Anybody who tried this on any SM-N910S?
Thanks

download official .tar.md5 ROM file from sammobile or if you have one use it.open it with Winrar.there is recovery.img , extract it.
make a tar file with this img file...you can do it with linux or a batch file in windows like: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2446269
HI guys,
After rooting, would you recommend installing TWRP or just use stoxk recovery? And what is the advantage of TWRP over stock recovery?

With TWRP or other recovery, you can flash custom ROMs and MODs. That is the only purpose of it.

It would have been interesting to at least try some new test in the process - for instance I have seen some intriguing reports from N900W8 models where they have apparently installed some version of xnote (custom rom pre-rooted) without tripping knox presumably by somehow using stock Samsung kernel and stock Samsung recovery (I repeat, that was THEIR claim, not mine, but more research and testing on the subject would be nice).
I'm one of those people. I installed the Mexican update, then rooted using Cf autoroot, then installed CWM and flashed X-Note with Katturbine kernel and I'm still knox 0x0 :/

1. Do you recommend me to upgrade to kitkat then to have custom rom or just to root my 4.3 then to have a custom rom?

2. Can you please explain what you did step by step instructions to what you did, and if possible providing a link to the Mexican rom you referred to and the same CWM you used.
Thanks

That sounds very different from what I was expecting, and so far based on that I would say that it mostly seems to be a result of the N900W8 bootloader system rather than something very special that needs to be done when flashing stuff
Question specific for N900W8 - is it possible to downgrade MJ4 -> MJ1 on that phone? (since that would confirm that the W8 bootloader is quite different).

hey everyone couple of questions
im currently on stock nb7 with lean kernel
im getting some issues so i want to go back to scratch. ive seen on sam updates this is the latest version for BTU N9005XXUGNG1. is this the latest one?
im wondering if BTU s the correct one for me? im currently using btu and have been since ive gotten this phone. (just something id like to confirm.)
also ive seen a few threads about issues rooting NG1? this is the thread im referring to,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-3/general/root-root-xxufnf4-stock-firmware-knox-t2840150.
ive already tripped knox as soon as i got this phone so im not concerned with that.
the method i know for flashing stock is,
1.open odin 3
2.connect phone (just did that and odin sees 0:com5 (so thats good)
3. click on pda and load the tar/md5 file and click start
4. to root, load cf auto root file in pda mode and click send
5. flash twrp via mobile odin
any mistakes?

The method done in your link was to enable the use of towelroot which does not trip knox when rooting. But at the same time it does not work on new firmwares like the NG1. BTU is fine, but if you want to try other ones then there are some ROMS with multi-csc via aroma. I'm no longer into TW roms, but was on XNote v16 before, pretty good for me.

Well since you've already tripped knox then yes, cf autoroot is a go. Wait, how did you triP knox and not be rooted? Do you have custom recovery? if yes, then some ROMS come pre-rooted and can be flashed through custom recovery. I'm on Temasek CM11, rock solid stable rom. About csc, i suggest staying with your current csc which is BTU.

No I am rooted and I have a custom recovery. You mean some stock roms come pre rooted? That would be helpful. Just flash through recovery. Doesn't flashing the official stock, update more, like the bootloader etc. Would flashing a stock rooted room be the same as flashing official

No, custom ROMS come pre-rooted. Flashing official from Samsung should always be done via odin. Now, flashing custom rom can be done through custom recovery or depends on the instruction of the developer.

DONT FLASH THE FILES ATTACHED IN THE THREAD.
GET THE SIMILAR FOR YOUR FIRMWARE.
THIS IS ONLY THE METHOD OF HOW TO MAKE TOWELROOT WORK.
Relying on your point that i9507 = i9505. (Almost)
In a simpler way,
Download towelroot on your phone
Get stock kernels of the firmware that you are using right now and of an older 4.4.2 version (say early august)
Flash the kernel of the previous version of 4.4.2.
Use towelroot
Flash latest kernel.
You have root without tripping Knox
If you want to trip Knox (many don't want to trip it and many don't care if it trips) see for chainfire's cf-autoroot flashable via odin.
Or
If you have philz recovery for your phone, flash philz and then in recovery-philz options-reroot your phone.

Hi,
I am not a programmer / developer but just wanted some expert opinion on how to root and what are the advantages. I have now ended my warranty so please can someone let me know:-
1. How to root safely without messing up KNOX
2. Can I bring the device to the same state if something goes wrong while rooting
3. Is there any substitute for firmware updates
Thanks,
Subbu
Rooting trips knox. You can try Towelroot, probably won't work. Flashing recovery will allow you to flash superuser/obtain root, or just flash a new Rom that's pre rooted.
Any samsung device can be Odined back to stock if needed, just not knox.

What version of the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1(2014) do you have? Towelroot won't work with the p600 or the p601. Also it is better to use Obin then a one click root. Read through this topic it explains the whole process.

Towel root works for P605 up to latest software update as in the link below. The trick is to downgrade the boot.img using odin to a lower firmware e.g. NF2, root with towel root and then upgrade boot.img back to current firmware version. It keeps Knox 0x0. Try and keep your Knox 0x0 status in case it becomes important to you. Flashing custom recovery and kernels will trip knox, and using other rooting methods is likely to trip it also.

Thanks for all your responses.
I am looking at orion's website and clear how to root now. Please can someone clarify these for me :-
1. We can root the note but need to remove KNOX (after rooting) as it will not work properly for rooted devices?
2. Is it possible to get the note to the current state if something goes wrong during rooting. If yes, how can we do this?
3. Is it possible to install latest firmwares either from dev community or official Samsung? If it's from the DEV community, then wil it be a simple task of updating firmwares like how we do for official Samsung or do we have to start the process of rooting / stock recovery etc. again?

1. You are correct KNOX will not work and will give annoying and intrusive notification about your tablet being modified. But that is a small price to pay. Your warranty will be invalid after rooting, also a gift from KNOX, and it cannot be reset back to valid.
2. Yes, it is possible to reflash stock through Obin by downloading the firmware from Sammobile.com, not sure if I have the web address right, and flashing it like you do CF-Autoroot and twrp.
3. You cannot take ota updates because it will see the custom recovery and say your system has been modified. Again you can flash official updates from Samsung by using obin and Sammobile or for faster updates use a custom ROM which is actually probably better, but it depends on what you use your tablet for. If you want I can link you to some custom Roms that are stock based or CM based.

Many thanks Orion. I have SM-P600. Basically, I want to root because I want to remove the official software and other bloatware.
1. Clear
2. By reflashing the stock, you mean setting the note 10.1 2014 to it's original state but through the 'odin-flash method'? So, if I do this, then will I be back to normal (including KNOX) and be able to download firmware updates? How do I do it through
3. What is the difference between sammobile formware and custom ROM?
Two more questions
1. Is it possible to download android 4.4.4 / Android L and install it in my device now than waiting for Samsung to officially release it?
2. Will it be possible to root, remove the unwanted software and then unroot to come back to normal again?

Not quite. Reflashing the stock ROM via Odin will return your device's software configuration to the way it was out of the box. No custom recovery, no root, etc. However, nothing can reset the KNOX counter. Once tripped, it's tripped for good. Reflashing a stock ROM will not allow you to receive OTA updates, you will have to download updates (from SamMobile or another site) and flash via Odin, or use Kies to update. Updating the firmware on your device through either method will cause you to lose root and custom recovery, but you may be able to re-root and reflash custom recovery.

SamMobile only hosts Samsung official stock firmwares for devices.
And yes, you should be able to root, uninstall unwanted system apps, and then unroot. But again, you will be unable to accept OTA updates.
Understood about the fact that if I root, then I should forget about KNOX once and for all.
- Ok, how do I unroot? Is that straightforward.
- If sammobile releases a firmware update for SM-P600 (let's say android 4.4.4 for US), can I install that via KIES (without root) though I am in the UK?
- If I root, I can then install android L as soon as it is available in the DEV community?

1. Yes I have never had to unroot any Samsung device but as far as I know it is just that simple.
2. As long as it is for the p600 then yes it is compatible you should be able to flash without root through Obin.

Chainfire includes an unroot in his SuperSU app, which means you can just root to remove stuff the use the unroot function and then you have stock. There also Roms available that are just debloated stock without root installed. You have to root first to install.

So, if we root to remove stuff and unroot through SuperSU app, will KNOX mess up again? To be honest, this is all what I want to do.
Another question, if we root, how can we get android L - the same method as odin flash?
1. No knox won't come back if you use the unroot function it just removes root.
2. Yes, obin flash when Samsung release, or install a custom ROM which then you get Lollipop faster.

You need to first flash this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2490805 through Obin. Then make sure you have root. Then from the play store download flashify. You don't necessarily need a custom rom(can be called custom OS to) but they are updated faster then stock TouchWiz and they run twice as fast because they are slimmed down. Plus you have control of everything. Some people just want want a more pure android experience but with more customization. TouchWiz is a custom ROM of android because it has features pure android doesn't have a.k.a. multi-window and quick settings with KitKat.
Like I said you don't need a custom ROM but it is a lot more fun to play then rooted TouchWiz. I am linking two custom Roms one is TouchWiz based so it has all of Samsung's features. The other is CM which doesn't have any of the cool features of Samsungs TouchWiz. TouchWiz
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2793898. CM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2936863. There are a ton of different options. My a back up with twrp save it to your SD card and enjoy being rooted.

Thanks for answering my questions patiently Orion. Ok, so if I follow the steps mentioned in http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2793898, then
1. Will I have Samsung touchwiz ROM and also get all the features mentioned there including notePRO?
2. Will I have multi-window and s-pen features retained?
3. Is the above website free to download?
4. Is it possible to just get the notePRO features after rooting my SM-P600 instead of getting everything from the above website
5. It looks like there is a 1.7 GB file that I need to download in my local PC before I flash it with odin?
6. There is a mention in the above website that we need to be rooted and also have custom ROM installed so If I have to install hyperdrive as per the website, I need to have done both I guess or can I just root my note and directly flash the 1.7 GB with odin without having a custom recovery installed? Also, how is custom recovery different from root?
Hey guys i just bought this international exynos note 3 (N900) and i have some questions about it ;
1. I want to install all the roms kernels and mods i could find but in order to do that (I'm %100 stock btw) ,do i need to first unlock the device ( i dont know how i couldnt find it), then root it with CF- Auto root( my warranty is over so i dont need to think about KNOX i think??) Then use the dd method to flash a recovery and flash whatever i want. Am i right about the things i said on all above ? Is there an easier way to do it ?
2. Do KNOX ever prevents me from flashing things in ODIN if something gets triggered ?
3. If i am not right about the first question starting from %100 stock what do i need to do to get this baby rockin ? I'm thinking about flashing a stock lollipop rom with a custom kernel and root ofc. Any suggestions ?
4. Do we need to flash modems from odin ? Because when reading the AryaMods thread i saw something about updating the modem. I'm on 4.4.2 right now. Can we flash modems or even kernels from recovery ?
Thanks already!!

There is no much of roms to choose for this one. 9005 is most supported here.
Root using cf auto root.
Make back up of ta partion/imei.
Flash recovery with odin. Then flash roms in twrp (watch the ere about how to use twrp or YT).
flash stock roms using odin.
Can't i just flash recovery from odin then flash a custom rom after that without rooting ? Thanks!

If you are going to flash roms based on lollipop, update your phone to latest stock rom for your model using odin so you get latest bootloader.
Dude, you need root access to access system and write to it. Don't custom roms require root, if you take a look? (don't answer to this [emoji61] )
If you want that way, flash twrp with ? odin. Then flash supersu for your model using twrp. That way too you get root. Then flash roms after (read rom instructions).
Ask if all wondering. ?

No my question was; not rooting the device in the first place before flashing the recovery and the rom. The roms already comes with the root in it. So just to be clear first upgrade the base to lollipop from odin then flash a recovery and lastly flash a lollipop rom. Would this be your sequence when you just bought a new note 3 ?

Flash latest firmware then custom recovery then flash the custom rom of your choice. No need to root after flash official firmware but it's good to root first as you may want to backup efs before you start messing the phone. I backed up the efs for the past 1.5years but so far never need it.

Thanks you very much mate!
Edit: I couldn't find the 5.0 version for my device the latest one is 4.4.2 for SM-N900Q. But there are 5.0 versions for SM-N900 for india and such. Can i flash one of them ? Does it interfere with anything so like just for a base ?
