Which Note 3 SM-N9005 version do I have? - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I have soft bricked my phone while following all steps to install ROM via CWM and now I'm trying to install STOCK Rom via ODIN but I have no idea which version I need to download.
All I know is its a SM-N9005 2.3Ghz Quad Core, LTE, 32Gb, FCC ID A3LSMN9005, SSN N9005GSMH
It had no region lock. I bought the phone from Kogan and it was shipped from Hong Kong.
I have tried flashing the Hong Kong ROM N9005ZHUDMK1_N9005ZZHDMK1_N9005ZHUDMJ9_HOME.tar.md5 which I downloaded from samfirmware.com but that didn't work.
I have tried following this guide http://lockyep.blogspot.com.au/2014/01/technology-ultimate-guide-to-unbrick-16.html but that didn't work plus there was no PIT file in the zip anyway
At current, I have CWM 6.0.4.4 as when I tried to flash CWM 6.0.4.7 it wouldn't boot into recovery.
Is there any way I can find out which firmware version I need to download? On my HTC I was able to by using adb and get the CID but don't know how to do that with a note 3
Thanks for your help in advance

You'd probably have a Stock HLTEXX SM-9005
Go into about phone and Match the Baseband Version to the one you want to update to, at least until the last 3 characters
E.G. Baseband Version: N9005XXUDMJ7 Is mine.
In fact post me yours?

I can't go into about phone as it's soft bricked....

If you flashed a non HK phone with a HK ROM then you're gonna have issues, find the correct PIT file then re-flash your chosen firmware (you'll have to figure out if yours is a HK model now though) HK firmwares do not play well with any other N9005, Countless people having issues with HK models.

Hi mabrady85,
Sounds similar to what I did, good reputation ebayer pretending to sell Australian phones (item location = Australia etc.) but it shipped from Hong Kong.
My device stopped registering on the network a few days ago after months use. It's not rooted, fully stock. Still trying to understand why. Anyways here is my "about device" information in case it helps you recover the bricked phone:
From about device:
Model number: SM-N9005
Android version: 4.4.2
Baseband version: N9005ZHUENB5
Kernel version: 3.4.0-763416

Build number: KOT49H.N9005ZHUENB5
SE for Android status: Enforcing

Security software version: MDF v1.0 Release 2

[Q] Which region?

Hello,
I'm a little confused about which region SM-N9005 I have.
In phone settings -> about device it shows:
Model number: SM-N9005
Baseband version: N9005XXUBMI5
Build number: JSS15J.N9005ZHUBMI7
In Kies,
Current firmware version: PDA:MI7 PHONE:MI5 CSC:MI7 (TGY)
Latest firmware version: PDA:MJ8 PHONE:MJ4 CSC:MJ8 (TGY)
After a little research I have found out that TGY is the region code for Hong Kong, and the Build number seems to verify this.
But what about Baseband version? Doesn't XX mean European region?
I bought this phone on eBay. So its quite possible someone fiddled with it to make it work here (BTW I'm in UK).
Can anyone shed any light, before I flash the wrong region firmware via ODIN and brick my phone?
Also I have CF-Auto-Rooted (Thanks Chainfire), which is why I'm not updating through Kies.
Thanks to all in advance,
Jason

Hi,
Thanks for the reply, but I'm still unsure which Region firmware I need to flash. (I'm talking about stock firmware here).
If I flash The Hong Kong firmware, will my phone still work here in the UK? Will it change my phone language to Chinese?
I understand flashing the wrong region for your device could result in a brick. Is this correct?
I really would like a definitive answer before I do something stupid.
Thanks all
Update
Just a quick update..
I read through the entire CF-Auto-Root thread (50 pages!). A couple of posts mentioned that I could update through Kies if I first factory reset my phone.
I did so, and the update succeeded! I then proceeded to CF-Auto-Root again, to regain root access. Joy!
Now my 'About device' screen looks like this:
Baseband version: N9005ZHUDMJ4
Build number: JSS15J.N9005ZHUDMJ8
A couple of questions.
The baseband version is not correct for my region (UK, Europe (XX))
Will this have adverse effects on my connection to networks?
Is it possible to flash only the correct baseband? If so, how?
Thank you all for taking time to help me

Help with s4 4.3 arctic blue model XXUEMK9

Just after some advice please guys. I just bought an s4 ( in australia ). 1.9 processor and the usuall other stuff but this s4 is the arctic blue model with 16gb internal storage.
I can't find enough consistant information about this model on the forums. I couldn't even find the corresponding firmware for the phone on samsung website so i checked if there was an update for the phone....there was and i downloaded. The below are the new details for the phone. All i want to do is root the phone and remove as much bloatware as possible without downloading any roms or any boot animations etc etc.
1) Where can i get the corresponding samsung firmware?
2) What's the safest root method for this device?

[Q] download ROM - always redirected to pay sites..

Last year I was given a Galaxy Note 3 as a present. It is an SM-N900, csc country TGY (Hong Kong). I get the message from Kies that the 4.4.2 is the latest firmware. So I looked around, and there are plenty of 5.0 downloads, but all of these lead me to a site that require a 'premium membership', for pay of course.
Is there an official Samsung website where the (original) firmware versions can be downloaded, without the need for Kies? And particularly, is there a location where the Dutch 5.0 version for the SM-N900 (official international model) can be found?
T.
I'd forgotten how messy the download pages look when you're not using an adblocker.. And how confusing the multiple download buttons can be to people who aren't used to downloading off the internet.
You can use Sammobile.com (You don't need a premium account, just a free one), or Samsung-updates.com.
There is no official site, but these both use the KIES firmwares.
Hello folks;
I created a SamMobile account, and am currently downloading two 5.0 firmware sets: TGY (Hong Kong) and a SER (Russia) .
Russian version:
============================
Model SM-N900
Model name GALAXY Note 3
Country Russia
Version Android 5.0
Changelist 4115321
Build date Thu, 09 Apr 2015 13:05:48 +0000
Product code SER
PDA N900XXUEBOD1
CSC N900SEREBOB1
Hong Kong version:
========================
Model SM-N900
Model name GALAXY Note 3
Country Hong Kong
Version Android 5.0
Changelist 4031530
Build date Wed, 18 Mar 2015 03:08:27 +0000
Product code TGY
PDA N900ZSUEBOC3
CSC N900OZSEBOC3
================================
My phone type is SM-N900, a gift from a relative . Got it in China, and the current firmware is:
Bootloader N900ZSUDNB1
Baseband N900XXUBMI2
PDA N900ZSUDBN1
CSC N900OZSDNB1
The original CSC country code is TGY, Hong Kong. As far as I can see, there are no restrictions, I can access Google playstore etc. Can't do that with a Mainland Chinese phone....
If I want to download the current firmware, to have it available just in case, I am directed to a Baidu site. Can't get the original firmware via SamMobile. Guess that means that if an upgrade via ODIN goes wrong, I am stuck?
Questions:
- should I use the TGY or the SER firmware?
- any way to go back to the original firmware in case the update does not work?
Thanks for your help,
T.
Questions belong in Q&A, not General.
Thank you.

You need to do some reading around. HK (& some other Asian ones) firmware tends to be different to the rest of the world - I think it's partition sizes. Try flashing a non-HK ROM and you're likely to soft brick or bootloop your phone.
Learn about how to get around the issue and you can flash whatever you like (within reason ) but at present HK is what you should stick with.
Not sure why you get a redirect - either China doesn't want you flashing anything else or the phone hosts file has crap in it.

SM-G8850 Samsung Galaxy A9 Star change from CHC to TGY

I have a Samsung Galaxy A9 Star (SM-G8850) purchased on the Chinese market. Once updated to the latest firmware I get:
AP: G8850ZCU3ASA1
CP: G8850ZCU3ASA1
CSC: G8850CHC3ASA1
Model: SM-G8850/DS
The firmware comes with all the usual Chinese crapware and I would like to switch it to the Hong Kong (TGY) firmware in order to access Google Play Services and use it outside China. I have found the official pages detailing the firmware versions (CHC for China, TGY for HK) and the appropriate page on SamMobile with instructions for uploading a new firmware using Odin.
Is this process safe and/or reversible? Do I need to root or install TWRP recovery first? Are the China/HK versions of the phone hardware-identical? Is there a guide for this for a similar phone that I could attempt to follow, is there anything else I need to consider relating to partition size? Is there a different way to install GApps and Google Play Services on a Chinese market phone? Has anyone tried this before?
Thanks for any help!
Update on progress. Unfortunately this is currently not possible for me since I updated the Chinese firmware from bootloader U1 to U3, and the latest version of the TGY firmware still uses U2. I think it would be necessary to root the phone to downgrade, which would trigger Knox.
CSC CHC: G8850ZCU3ASA1
CSC TGY: G8850ZHU2ASA1
Attempting to flash the old version results in "SW REV CHECK FAIL [abl]Fused 3 > Binary 2"
For anyone who has not yet updated, if flashing directly with the same bootloader level doesn't work, this guide seems likely to work:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/how-to/guide-changing-csc-s8-s8-root-t3799045
Using combination files available here:
https://combinationfirmware.com/combination-samsung-galaxy-a9-star
Would appreciate reports from anyone trying this. I will be waiting for a TGY build using U3.
Another update. TGY Build G8850ZHU3BSEB was released, with U3 bootloader and Android 9. Using this firmware, it is possible to change the phone from the Chinese CHC firmware to Hong Kong TGY firmware. The phone changes its model number from Galaxy A9 Star to Galaxy A8 Star. Simply download Odin 3.13.3 and the firmware from https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/galaxy-a8-star/firmware/SM-G8850/ and flash.
