Hi guys,
I've got a problem. My Nexus 4 fall on the ground, and the touchscreen is broken. The phone works, I can got to the lock screen, but then I cannot selection anything to unlock it. I know the schema to do. Is it possible to change my finger for anything else, like mouse? Or find another solution?
Then I could unlock and try to get something from it.
Thanks
Do you have debugging enabled? You can use adb to pull whatever you need to get from it

What kind of lock screen do you have?

I don't think USB debugging is on, and I can't verify directly on the phone. is there a way to look that with the computer?
The lock screen is a scheme with 9 dots
. . .
: : :
, and I have to unlock it with a Z scheme from the top left corner to the low right corner. there's only a little part of the touchscreen working, which include the two down dot at the left.
Just type
adb devices
Into cmd/terminal, if you see your serial number than good, if you see a blank line than try again from recovery. If you get an error than adb is not functioning on PC and this needs to be fixed

Hello,
I just got my Nexus 7 shipped, and try to turn him on, but when I want to touch the screen to enter my language the Nexus doesn't recognize any tap. I rebooted the Nexus several times (the buttons on the side are working - 2button combo to reset).
Has anyone an idea what I did wrong or is it a production failure?
Thanks
Very simple i think...... must be production failure when its brand new out of the box.
I would change it for a new one...
Good luck

OK, Let's rule out one thing first. On the initial language setting screen, you need to slide up and down rather than to tap it. You know that right?
I cracked my Nexus 7 screen on the left side and that cracked side no longer accepts touch input. Three letters of my password are on that side and I had orientation locked to landscape mode in my previous use before I cracked it. If I could somehow get to portrait mode I would be able to input my password and use the device with the only limit being my having to flip the device around all of the time when I need to touch the screen in that area.
Anyway of resetting the password or reorientating it from the lock screen? I won't have the money to fix it for about a month and a half and I don't want to factory reset and lose all my data.
I searched for ways to reset password and found nothing useful besides factory reset. I also searched for things I might be able to do by hooking it up to a PC via USB but not one search item turned up was even closely relevant no matther how I phrased it.
Thanks.
Try to turn it on and off?

How about plugging a mouse via OTG cable to input your password

I've definitly thought of that I won't have any money until next month sometime.
There is a thread on xda that tells how to remove the lock, and it works. Do a search.

boot to recovery and make nandroid backup (if you don't make one yet) then factory reset. You can restore backup later on, easy as pie.
Fix with broken screen and lock
Hey guys,
This will not work for all broken screens. i had the pattern lock and broke 3/4 the screen was not responsive to touch. i was able to use google play store > manage devices. Then change password. this changed it from pattern to a password field. i was able to set a new password that was accessible in the small section of screen that worked.
I was then able to flip the screen in any direction to access what i needed including the usb debug so i could use OTG and get a mouse to control the whole thing. also i was able to get the Bluetooth connection going and control it over my computer and do anything i needed.
Hope this helps someone.
My Friend's N4 has developed a strange problem. The Soft buttons (Home, Back & Recent Apps) are not working when the phone is held in portrait orientation. However, they do work in landscape orientation.
He tested the touch screen with a multi touch tester app and found that there is no touch response at the lower portion of the screen exactly in that area that would get occupied by the soft button bar in portrait mode.
The phone is all stock. Non-rooted and bootloader is locked.
Anyone faced such an issue? Please help!
I have the exact same problem, as many other it seems. If i turn the phone clockwise, so that the back arrow/home/apps buttons are displayed where the signal bar is, the buttons work as ecpected; on the other hand, if i rotate the phone the opposite way, the buttons do not work.
It's curious because, as you can see from the partial screenshot below, the phone is rotated counter clockwise and i have swiped to test google now (you can see the dots near the back arrow). So i guess that means that some touch input is registered after all.
I'd like to make some test with those multitouch apps. Can you suggest one?

hello,
i sent mine for repair since it is still covered by the warranty. anyway, due to my post service ((, it will take some more days until i receive it. will keep you updated if anything has changed (hopefully for the better).
Hello I have the same problem!!
I have already did a full wipe and installed CM 11 and Paranoid Android but still facing the same issue!!! Any ideas?
Sounds like you have a hardware problem, you'll need to buy and replace the screen and digitizer assembly.

Same prob
i have the exact same problem and my warantee expired. it seems most people have this prob after the warantee expires.
Check out the guide below and hopefully you can avoid replacing your nexus 4 screen or digitiser

Hi, so I recently broke the screen on my g2 and as you all know this has pretty much caused the touch screen to go non-functional. I was wondering if there was a way for me to format it via a computer of some sorts? If I could at least get access pass the passcode screen I could maybe connect a Bluetooth keyboard and navigate it to an extent but the screen won't let me put my password in. Any info would be helpful, thanks!
If you enabled USB debugging before the touch stopped working, you can use "adb tap x y" commands to get around and wipe it. I'm not sure how flashing recoveries works on this phone yet, but if it doesn't require you to use the screen, you can do that and wipe from there.
If you have a swipe lock screen enabled, you can use "adb swipe x1 y1 x2 y2".

So normally I can read my way through forums and get my device unlocked. I just can't get it done with the Nexus Q. I'm having problems with getting the drivers. I can't even turn on usb debugging. I called Google for help and they did even know what it was till they looked it up. Can I commission someone to help me? Does anyone have any help? All I want is to use it as a wireless amp, but it seems like only a dream.

a wireless amp?
try this
I can't post links cause I'm too new...
Google 'nexus q debug mode' and there should be a stackoverflow result that says 'android - Anyone know how to turn on USB debugging "ON ...'. Go there and follow the instructions on unlocking your device. Then install Cyanogenmod.
I still haven't figured out how to do this, but my understanding is that you have to either boot or flash a boot image which is insecure (meaning that debugging is turned on) and then use the adb commands. This can be done from fastboot when the Q is booted into bootloader.
To put it into bootloader you plug in the Q, then immediately cover the "eye" LED on the front of the Q and slightly push the Q down. It doesn't seem that it works if you are covering it when the eye when the cable is plugged in. It has to go from light to no light. The ring then starts blinging red, and then you remove you hand. The ring turns solid and the Q is in bootloader mode. If you keep the hand on while it's blinking it runs recovery factory reset.
Be sure to post if you find an insecure boot disk that works.
