A Homeless Guy gave me a RAZR M - Droid RAZR M Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

A homeless guy I trust down at the park gave me a white RAZR M.Told me it was good, but he was taking an upgrade. So,I get it home and plug it into the charger, and I get a strange screen. It won't boot up.When I went back to where he had his shopping cart and stuff,he said that he might have screwed it up when he tried to wipe his info off the phone, but I'm not sure how he did it.He told me it was on PagePLus,which is the carrier I have.Page Plus phones need to be flashed onto their network,if they are 4g,like the RAZR M.
So,I would like to get this phone to boot up,what should I try? I am not sure if it is totally bricked or not. This is what it looks like.It says:
AP Fastboot Flash Mode (S)
10.9B(*)(sha-1e91557,2013-05-29 13:50:43)
eWC info:Size 8gb
Device is LOCKED.Status Code:0
Battery OK
Transfer Mode:
USB Connected
Fastboot Reason:Flash Failure

Yes,that is an actual photo I took of the phone screen.

No offense and I could be wrong but I would think most homeless dont maintain a cell phone plan.

People make their choices,I don't judge,we been buds since I gave him half a bottle of blackberry brandy I had kicking around.

Larry told me that it was running 98.15.66 before he tried to wipe it.

Using RSD lite to flash stock firmware to get the phone working again is a good place to start. not sure how to go about flashing page plus.

Thanks for that,I will give it a shot later on.

This is how to flash it to PagePlus.
http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...ellyBean-on-PagePlus-VOICE-SMS-MMS-3G-WORKING
If you don't want to mess with having to re-flash the ICS modem and all that, you could try just flashing the logo to kick it out of fastboot mode. Get the original logo.bin from someplace and on your PC, type:
fastboot flash logo logo.bin
If the phone doesn't boot up normally after that, you'll have to reflash the whole thing using RSDLite and redo the entire PagePlus flashing process.

Or just use it on T-Mobile and have better data!

What phone D2 or D2 G and which SBF did you use?
I assume you used the 2.2.00 sbf when you needed the 2.3.20 SBF once you have the 2.3.20 update the bootloader is changed and won't accept the 2.2.0 sbf.
IF that's the case you need to try flashing it with the 2.3.20 SBF found HERE
Read the bottom of THIS post if you get a bootloop or stuck at the M logo screen.

You probably flashed the wrong SBF. You need to find the latest DX SBF they should be found in the DX section of XDA. Off the top of my head I can't think of the latest release.

I have a similar problem. I just got this phone and dont know the history other than the ESN is clear with vzw. It goes str8 to the BL screen and has this...
Bootloader
D2.35
Battery OK
OK to program
Tranfer Mode: USB
I Dloaded RSD lite 4.7 an the 2.35 BL sbf as well as the orig 2.2 and 2.3 FW sbf's. RSD will communicate with the phone. I can reload the BL sbf if I open the sbf file but none of the FW sbf will load in RSD, the start button command stays grayed out. Also in RSD on line 1 of the phone status it shows connected but above that in the device properties box info for the meid/esn etc show N/A.
I can access the recovery menu and at the bottom there is an error report for accessing recovery cache in a folder path.
Can I put an update.zip on an sd card and try to revive this thing that way or maybe I am doing something wrong? I am guessing this is the result of some botched flash job.
I have done some modding on my Droid X such as backing it up, deodexing and put the Liberty ROM on it as well and changing ROMS on my android tablet so I have some of the basics down but after much searching & reading I am seeking help with this one. Thanks in advance!
Edit: Now my battery is dead, I have found in other threads that a blank software device wont charge the battery if this helps

Maybe try flashing in linux and make sure you have read up about flashing SBF's on a DX. I don't know which one to flash as this is the D2 section and I have a D2.

That would work if you can find an update.zip made by moto that will go through the bootloader. And it doesn't really matter how it got here but probably it is a bad flash or a wrong ROM. (You might try connecting it via wall charger (not USB) while it's powered down then turn it on and see if you can get into clockwork recovery.)

You need to find someone with a DX to swap/charge your battery with so you can get in and flash it or you need an external battery charger (one that will charge the battery outside of the phone).

Oh. In that case you need the 2.3.20 SBF found here http://droid2files.com/tools/VRZ_A955_2.3.20_1FF_01.sbf after you can get the phone charged. (If it helps the D2 has the same size battery as the D1 so you can swap/charge a D2 battery with a D2 or a D1.)
Also try finding RSDLite 4.8 or 4.9 as they might work better for you. I'd give you a link but I Haven't flashed an SBF with RSDlite I just use linux.

Cool thank you again. I got the battery charging via a rig I have done before with other devices from a camera charger. My linux(zorin) machine lost keyboard function out of the clear blue I havent had a chance to sort it yet(another project lol) but I do have a live usb thumb drive setup to use for linux. I'll try on this windows machine for now.
I'll keep you posted as to the results
well I got the battery charged up. I still have this problem when I select either the 2.2 or 2.3 sbf files the start button for applying the flash stays grayed out as if the files are invalid. If I select a bootloader sbf the start button is ok and I can load the BL sbf. I tried switching to rsd 4.8 too. I will keep playing around with it and maybe try to get my linux pc going.
Ok well even tho I had a few copies of the sbf files I went ahead and dloaded the one you linked. It would load in the rsd app but when I hit start to apply I get.... "Failed Flashing Process (0x7100) and this happens right away

You might need to put the file in the C: drive of your windows box. At least that's what a another forum post found from a Google search suggested.
Or try linux Check here for more info: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=804088. It's an old version of Ubuntu and there are somethings I want to add to it, I'll be updating it as soon as I have some free time to put it together using the 10.10 version.
I found this link... http://androidforums.com/droid-all-...-failed-flashing-process-0x7100-rsd-lite.html check out post #32
It does make a difference where the file is located yes and I got the sbf to perform the flash but after a lengthy process looks like about 3 steps and it takes 3-5 min I end up with a fail messege. There is more info I could provide but its been a long Monday I need to give it a break and now the batt is low again.
Thank you all again for your much appreciated help. I will regroup tomorrow. I will try to log in on my phone to see any ideas I mite need to think over.

Hey while back this happened to me, I actually went to a friends house he had a droid x they use the same battery pretty much I take the battery out of the atrix and put it in the Droid X and you got to charge then plug it back into the atrix and flashed. It was enough to charge it. But before I went to his house I have went to the Verizon store they had a droid x it was a non corporate store they were nice enough to let me charge my battery inside of a Droid X for 30 minutes

actually thats a problem that alot of people have when using rds its just that the battery run out and the phone cant chrage it beacuse it cant boot so.
1.- you can buy or make youre factory cable to be able to charge in rds mode.
2.- buy a battery charger.
3.- use this method by berbedesz user
Today I have encountered the same problem. Yet, I found far easier way to recharge the battery. Just take any USB cable and cut it like below. Then attach the red wire to + marked on Atrix battery and black one to - with scotch tape (I used masking tape for painting as it leaves no glue)> plug into your motorola recharger or PC and give it some time.

Well, potentially anything to do with RSD could hardbrick your Atrix. Just make sure to read all the guides thoroughly, and then read it again for safe measure . Also, make sure to select the proper firmware for your country specific device.
I'd cut a spare usb cable and charge up the battery first, regardless of how you intend to flash the phone. (Assuming you can't be bothered buying a separate battery charger.)

[Q] Fastboot Reason: Flash Failure

I'm in over my head and hoping the kindness of a stranger can bail me out! It all started when I attempted to root my wife's Razr M from Verizon. I used a utility (the DROID_RAZR_Utility_Jellybean_XT912_WinMacLin.zip) to attempt an update and then a root. Well the update failed and now I see this when the phone starts up.
AP Fastboot Flash Mode (S)
Device is LOCKED. Status Code: 0
Battery OK
Transfer Mode:
USB Connected
Fastboot Reason: Flash Failure
usb connected
So I figured out that I can get to BP Tools and this somehow bypasses the problem and boots the phone normally. So as long as my wife doesn't turn the phone off, she'll be fine but I cannot leave it this way. I am open to suggestions and at your mercy. Thanks in advance!

No. I'd like to eventually but right now, I need to make that fastboot lock screen go away. Please treat me like a noob if it's not already apparent.
Thanks
What caused the update to fail? Also, you're lucky btw - Normally a failed update == a brick.
If you didn't root, you can probably take it to Verizon. If you were flashing the OTA and it went bad, that shouldn't be a problem at all...

I followed this video on youtube: youtube.com/watch?v=oDzMQykQ2fA How to Upgrade To And Root Jelly Bean on Droid Razr!
I watched the script run and it kept saying "fail" on several line items and I knew I was in trouble. Unfortunately this was self-induced and I have no desire to go to Verizon for help. I'm not that much of a noob. Anyhow, I'd just like to get back to square one and start over. What I did to get to BP Tools is to hold down volume up, volume down, and power button. Screen shuts off..let those buttons up and press them again which brings me to a second menu. From there I can choose recovery, fastboot, BP Tools, factory reset. The only one that helped was BP Tools which basically sent the phone to a regular boot and it acts normal. If I choose recovery, I get the android dude on his back with a explanantion or question mark, don't recall. If I press volume down, volume up and then release volume up, I can get to the menus where it allows you to run install from disk or something like that. I can't get to the point where I can see my phone on the computer so that I could place a flash file on the phone and re-flash it or something. If any of this sounds remotely familiar to anyone out there, please feel free to add your 2 cents. Thanks!
Try to wipe all user data after you get to the screen where you can install zips in recovery. See if that works. Pm me if you get stuck and we can possibly fix it through adb

You need to flash the stock firmware using RSD or House of Moto. This should be posted over at the HD forums, but the process is essentially the same for any Moto device. There's tons of threads about it. Download the software, download the firmware, connect the phone and flash.

AIO or "one-click" tools are bad news on Moto devices... Avoid them and do it manually, my best guess is something didn't restore properly.

Good luck with that... Moto is usually less than cooperative.
The firmware images are in the Developer sections here.

No, they send you a link upon request. The downloads here are much faster though.

Xda has helped me a lot this I don't think was fixable. I would still recommend someone to seek advice here.
Had the same thing happen to me after flashing back to stock, Baseband Unknown, IMEI Unknown. Found solution in a different Motorola device thread that worked for me.
Flash the modem twice.
fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
fastboot erase modemst1
fastboot erase modemst2
fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
fastboot flash fsg fsg.bin
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot
Happened to me a few times. I Just flashed the modem zip floating around around here via twrp. Great score on the 64gb replacement. :highfive:

ATT v20. Cant boot into bootloader..

I have a ATT v20 and ive been trying to root and put TWRP on it but cant seem to get into the bootloader or recovery or download mode.
Tried typing adb reboot bootloader and it just restarts the phone pretty much. Any help would greatly be appreciated.
No bootloader stock. You have to go through this procedure
https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/how-to/root-h910-v10m-t3664500
I tried too but cant seem to get it to boot into download mode

@t0xicdr3am What version of the firmware is on your phone? What happens when you have the phone powered off, hold vol up and plug in the USB cable?
-- Brian
The only things I've been able to get it to do is display two barcode thingy screen. I got it into recovery by typing adb reboot recovery and it displays an android guy with an exclamation mark but no options. Tried to upload a screenshot but tapatalk won't let me lol.

Okay so following that tutorial he posted.. I get up to about STEP2.BAT.. Tons of static screens and Im not sure if I messed up my phone for good or not..
My phone has the H915 firmware or whatever from the KDZ.. I dumped my system so Im not sure if that saves me or not?
Also have no cellular signal..
I try following that tutorial to the T but idk what im messing up
Could really use some help guys..
Pretty much stuck on the H915 KDZ I flashed with no cellular.. Following the steps on the H910 tutorial doesnt work.. I get to past Step 1 and either Step 2 messes up or it boots into step 3 and tells me fastboot isnt a valid command or something....
Okay so I got TWRP on it.. but when I try to do anything, its like it doesnt mount system.. I try to flash the system.zip and system.img and i get unable to mount system (unknown error 150)..
Then I go to reboot recovery and it says no OS installed.. So Im assuming when I flashed the system.img it erased the OS?
Now you need to do this part to complete
Now that you are in TWRP you need to do a couple of things:

I did.. I flashed the 10m zip and flashed the system.img.. made sure not to get any mount errors..
So it flashed successfully.. rebooted system and it gave me a kernel error im assuming so I held down volume down to restart as it said and now its on the LG screen.. waiting to see if boot time just takes longer or what not and Ill report back..
But shouldnt I have data and cellular? Im on Cricket which is apart of ATT and in his post after flashing the KDZ file.. it says I should but I dont..
At this point I really dont want any root or anything.. I just want to restore my phone to a working state with cellular as I have a young son and use my phone for work and my stupid ass shouldnt of been ****ing with it from the beginning lol.. If I can get back to 10m or stock or whatever and the modem works ill be happy..
I have a full dump from that one step.. Will that help me revert these changes back? How do I go abouts using the DUMP to restore?
Sorry.. never used a dump before.. If it'll even work
Okay so no luck.. maybe TWRP didnt give me an error but when I went to reinstall the files again because i waited 10 mins.. it gave me the unable to mount system unknown error 150.. any ideas?
If you have a Cricket H910 it may be different than an normal H910.
Did you take a dump of your firmware before rooting? It is an optional step, but I hope you did.

I did but have no idea how to restore it using the files it pushed onto my computer.. It isnt a cricket H910.. Its an ATT H910.
Side note, good morning Brian.. Been waiting for you lol
Is there anyway one of you guys can point me into the direction of using the DUMP to restore whatever I can?

When I go to flash the system.zip and .img it erases system completely and then I get the unable to mount system (unknown error 150)
Im pretty sure this all has to do with the encryption.. When I go to format data, it cant mount storage.. When I finally get it to format; and I flash the system.zip and .img i get the unable to mount system..
I dont even want root anymore.. I just want to know how to use my DUMP to fix my phone if its possible?
If it is an AT&T H910 then there is a thread, linked to in the post about rooting that will get you back to stock.
However, I warn you, if you can't make this work, then the chance of you restoring to stock are not good.
I can tell from the posts / PMs that you made, that you didn't read the entire post before trying to root.
You have asked questions that are answered right in the post.
