If you experience extreme overheating or bad battery life, underclocking to 1300 Megahertz fixes the issue, improves battery life, and is not noticeably slower.

Just wondering how much an OC kernel actually helps with normal activities in non-gaming situations (such as browsing, java loading, etc). Besides benchmarks, does anyone TRULY notice a difference going from say 1.3 to 1.7?
I see the Tegra 3+ is out in the One X+ and wondering if we can OC to match?
I can say that some apps and games will load up faster and seem to run a little better but since this tablet already handles that so well it's hard for me to really pinpoint when something is going faster than normal.
I run mine at 1.5. Seems pretty snappy to me. Then again...it seemed pretty fast from the get go. I came from a cheap 7" Coby.

I'm running Franco's kernel which runs the GPU at 484 MHz (OC from the stock 416MHz). The CPU is not overclockable with this kernel, which at first I wasn't happy with, as I usually OC my Nexus 7 at about 1.5GHz, dependent upon my mood . However, I haven't noticed a single difference in the real world. This kernel still hits 4800 points in Quadrant and 11`500 points in Antutu! Probably due to the slight GPU over clock xD.
CPU overclocking = impressive benchmarking, but little real world improvement and battery drain. Plus decreased life span on CPU.
GPU over clocking = much better gaming performance, big real world difference in gaming and little/no battery drain. More importantly though, NOVA 3 becomes 100 lag free!

Also, are there any side effects on the life of CPU if this clock rate is used permanently?

Yes, I get significant increase at 1.5. I haven't noticed any substantial decreases in battery life, and as long as it isn't getting too hot than you shouldn't have to worry about the CPU dying much sooner than normal.

Thanks, I will try using 1500.
Obviously running the cpu at 50% faster is going to provide and improvement in the overall speed. The heat is negligible with the Xooms big metal back. Battery may be affected but I have never used stock speed.
I jus t wondering does undervolt really affect our battery life? How does it work?
When choose to undervolt it affect on performance, isn't it? Slower or stuttering when switch apps? With less energy less performance, does it wrong?
If it is, then how underbolt can improve peeformance better? :confuse

Judging from my experience UV experimentation doesn't affect battery life, and if it does it's definitely by an inappreciable margin. It does substantially reduce heating issues though especially during high-intensity usage (Spotify, GNow, gaming etc). Just don't overdo it or you wind up rebooting repeatedly--"safe" threshold varies by kernel
It also has no effect on performance, it's completely separate from clock speed.
I UV to lower temperature The N4 is very heat sensitive so you'd be wise to UV if possible, the throttle can kick in very quickly on stock, because of the default CPU behavior(mpdecision+ondemand seem to ramp in a ridiculous manner). I am seeing temps in the mid-low 30s thanks to UV and I'm running turbo mode on Faux's kernel.
I have been experimenting with some various governors and have found that interactive and ondemand work best on the nexus 7. My question is which one will have better battery life on the nexus 7? Which one will have the least stuttering? Just curious. Everyone seems to state that interactive will be the better governor, but I tend to notice interactive heats up more in chrome. Anyone else notice this?

When running low on battery I found conservative with runnable works the best for me. Undervolting by 50-100mV and running custom kernel plus ROM can also contribute. I always turn my WiFi and GPS off when not being used. I would not know of such imperceivable details between Interactive and Ondemand as battery, stutter or heat. Mine reaches 70 degress celsius under overclocked heavy benchmarking load.
For battery life, stick with interactive or conservative.
For less lag and stuttering, use ondemand or performance.

Wow, you couldn't be more wrong. You have it completely opposite. For better battery life, and not to have your frequency set to the highest value, almost at all times, go with ondemand. If you want less lag, and stuttering, but worse battery life, interactive.
Test it yourself with setcpu, and CPU spy, and you'll see exactly what I'm talking about.

I have done a lot of searching and have found ways to get better performance but I really need maximum performance for the app I am running to reduce lag.
I have the 2013, rooted on marshmallow and elementalx installed.
The max I can get is 450 on the gpu and 1890 on the CPU. And faster and I get constant reboots.
It doesn't matter if I need a custom Rom I'm prepared to do whatever necessary to get the best performance. Battery life isn't important.
