I am trying to help a friend unlock and root his Vzw G2. I am very familiar with unlocking, rooting and adb commands and have messed with many devices.
As mentioned, he is running the Vzw G2 and here is a screen shot of his settings info.

From my research so far, I have found that the G2 boot loader has yet to be officially unlocked. So as of now, we need to use the work around using loki tool which is here:
http:www.androidpolice.com/2013/09/18/da...d-bootloader-on-att-and-verizon-lg-g2-models/
After using the work around, I will then root and flash custom recovery using:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=45692679#post45692679
1. Are these the proper tools to be used for this version and model?
2. Is the boot loader workaround Loki necessary in order to root and flash custom recovery.
3. If /when the boot loader becomes unloackable, will the loki patch be able to be reverted into fully unlocking? Thanks for all the tips and advice ahead of time!!

Hi all,
Not the greatest with this whole rooting thing. I bought a used Nexus 4 a few weeks ago, and when it asks me to update the phone to 4.2.2, it restarts and takes me to CWM which I know can only be there if the phone is rooted. The update then says failed in CWM. When I hold the volume buttons and the power button that screen tells me the phone is locked. If I want to update the phone to 4.2.2 to you recommend flashing one of the mods from this site? Or unrooting and installing the stock update?
Thanks
You would have better luck asking this in the nexus 4 q and a, help, troubleshooting forum instead of this one... Just saying.

you dont need root to have installed a custom recovery, or to flash roms/kernels. to find out if you jave root, type su in a terminal emulator then press enter. if you get a # symbol after, then you have root.
ps.. and this doesnt belong in any development forum. development is something that youre developing, q&a is for questions.

yea, report your own thread, ask a mod to move it. btw, you have root. if you want 4.2.2, instead of trying to flash the stock image, flash a stock rooted rom in cwm recovery

You can flash this if you want to keep it stock.

I flashed the Deodexed version on my N4. Works great.
Hello guys,
I've got a phone by a friend (N4) which is everything on stock but it has francos kernel. Now, because he wants to update to the 5.0.1 version he gets this error message in recovery:
{

"lightbox_download": "Download",

}
So, can I just flash the stock kernel via fastboot and I'm done?
Are you trying to flash a ROM using the stock recovery? If so you're never going to have any luck trying to flash anything other than official stock zips, install TWRP/CWM (TWRP is my personal recommendation) and download the flashable stock 5.0.1 from the Android Development section!

Looks like he's trying to flash the ota update. In order to flash the ota you need to be 100% stock kernel, system, and recovery. Try what Bbeanss suggested, but you'll need to flash twrp. If he's stock except for the kernel flashing the stock kernel should work.

Hello!
I have AT&T (i337ucuamdl) Samsung Galaxy S4 with 4.2.2 installed. I have rooted the phone years ago and have not touched since. How do I update the phone to the latest 5.XX version? Is it possible to preserve the root? I saw the warning about MDL version that it is not supported. Anyone?
Thank you!
Look here.
Will I be able to use OTA updates with this ROM?
Thank you!

If you really still have the mdl bootloader, then you don't want to do an ota update, which will replace the exploitable mdl bootloader with a locked one.
If you have already done ota updates on the phone in the past, then you are already on a locked bootloader, and the above link would be irrelevant.
How did you get 4.2.2 onto the phone without replacing the UCUAMDL bootloader?

This is what I have now. Interesting that some applications are saying the phone is not rooted. I have done it 2 years ago. I cannot recall how I did it.
Thank you!
The application tells me I am not rooted.
I guess it is better to repeat the root procedure now.

This will root and install TWRP on MDL.

This will give you stock OC3 lollipop and keep your MDL bootloader.

I have rooted the phone successfully yesterday. I got a problem during my backup with FlashFire. Apparently something happened during backup and my microSD card got locked. What ever I do now I cannot format it or write anything on it. Anyone experienced it?
Thank you!
Yeah. I had 2 go bad on me out of the blue. Thankfully, they were SanDisk, which has a lifetime guarantee.
Snapping along on stock rooted 0C4 I337, wishing for some good up to date lollipop ROM's to throw into flashfire
Installed OC3. Do you know if the OC4 is available? It fixes the security bug that I would like to use.
Thank you!
I want to get a custom rom but im pretty new to bootloader unlocking....i know my phone has it locked because Kingo root was removed on reboot BTW my phone is a note 3 from canada AKA sm-w900w8 (sorry if i posted in the wrong place this is my first time here at XDA)
w900w8 ? n900w8 ?
If it's really locked, don't you think that by now there is tons of info on the web ? The phone is not from yesterday.
Why don't you Read the N900w8 ??? Thread in general section or search XDA .
Bootloader locked sorry I know nothing about that on your model are you sure you have the right model .Boot to download mode to check model .

Is your phone a model with a locked bootloader.

The Canadian Note 3 sm-n900w8 does not have a locked bootloader. For a custom ROM, flash TWRP and flash the ROM from TWRP.
The phone doesn't support fastboot commands.
Thanks! once you told me that it really helped thanks audit13!

Thanks for the heads-up. No wonder when I tried to install ADB & Fastboot, the installation couldn't be completed. Now I can root with CFAR and install TWRP on my Canadian Note 3 SM-N900W8 with confidence. :good:
A good friend of mine gave me his T-Mobile SG S8, SM-G950U after he got his S10e.
I just wanted to confirm that there is absolutely nothing, as far as rooting, that I can do with this?
By all the rooting these phones posts I've looked over, I'm screwed, right?
The bootloader is locked and no OEM option in Developer Options.

Incorrect. It can be rooted on a nougat rom only without unlocking bootloader using JR Kruse's newer method. Bootloader is locked, so no custom ROM, etc.
You can have root, safestrap recovery, etc. on nougat. If you just need safestrap, you can get it with a Pie rom, but no root on Pie.
