Hi all,
Not the greatest with this whole rooting thing. I bought a used Nexus 4 a few weeks ago, and when it asks me to update the phone to 4.2.2, it restarts and takes me to CWM which I know can only be there if the phone is rooted. The update then says failed in CWM. When I hold the volume buttons and the power button that screen tells me the phone is locked. If I want to update the phone to 4.2.2 to you recommend flashing one of the mods from this site? Or unrooting and installing the stock update?
Thanks
You would have better luck asking this in the nexus 4 q and a, help, troubleshooting forum instead of this one... Just saying.

you dont need root to have installed a custom recovery, or to flash roms/kernels. to find out if you jave root, type su in a terminal emulator then press enter. if you get a # symbol after, then you have root.
ps.. and this doesnt belong in any development forum. development is something that youre developing, q&a is for questions.

yea, report your own thread, ask a mod to move it. btw, you have root. if you want 4.2.2, instead of trying to flash the stock image, flash a stock rooted rom in cwm recovery

You can flash this if you want to keep it stock.

I flashed the Deodexed version on my N4. Works great.

Hi, I've been on a volunteer project for 3 weeks and before that I had been keeping my phone stock (I was waiting for something I really liked to come out) I've unlocked my boot loader before but I flashed back to .83 and I got into the Moto beta program so I updated officially to the new .91
The problem is: I've been out of this for so long I literally have no clue how to install Alien (Build 4)
Can someone point me to the tutorials I need to follow (In order) to install Alien?\
I also think this could be useful for new Atrix users etc
Seriously?
Open your eyes and read! Or leave it...
OK, re-flash pudding like you were unlocking your bootloader again,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1136261
then install cmw using fastboot
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1204500
then install alien.
If you need more help then that, I would spend some time catching up, if you unlocked your bootloader before, not that much has changed since then.

You have nothing to contribute, and therefore nothing to say. Please act accordingly.
To the OP: CM7 has come out in a pre-beta form since you've been gone. I would try that and Alien both. See which one you like better...

First thing, wrong section to be posting this. Second, you should read up long and hard before trying stuff you don't know about. Third, it's almost impossible to brick your nexus 7 because you can usually recover any android device through fastboot.

first off use this toolkit to fix your tablet. This toolkit has everything you need.
With the above program you can insure that your rooted and unlocked. And use TRWP not CWM as your recovery.
P.S. do you know how to get into fastboot mode?
hold volume down and power it on, when it comes up you'll know. use the volume to select which mode.
i Try it
Good lord. Please stop modding your device.
Hey guys, I'm having the same problem with OP, my problem now is it return to the stage before it flash after it flashed. Which means that it shows that it is successfully flashing the stock rom, but when it reboots, it didn't. It goes back to the stage where the rom was before it was flashed. Anybody help please?
I know it can be irritating, but I wish the indignation could be dialed back around here.
I have seen the spam from this poster, yes he should quit the over posting. But to tell someone just to go away and stop, well, I feel differently.
Stay, learn. But research first, you know? And post once then wait for a reply.
As you can see, your current tactics are just making the natives restless.
Being an ESL noob isn't a crime, maybe this person will end up developing the ROM you run next year.
I thought Linux was some sort of specialized hardware earlier in this calender year.
Okay, this is my first post so I'll try to give as much info as I can about the issue and how I got to this point.
In the past I've installed custom ROMs, But I am having a LOT of problems with this L7. As of right now, it will turn on for about 30 seconds to 3 minutes and restarts. I was trying to install a custom ROM on (CM 10). So, I came one here looking for info on it. found out that the main L7 people use here is the P700 and there isn't much on the P705g.
First I rooted using this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1906133
Then I downloaded ROM Manager from the play store and got it to install CWM. It wouldn't load up for me at all, and it would just constantly flash the back and menu touch lights when holding vol down and power. At this point I downloaded CM10 for this phone (from what I understand the P700 is basically the same as mine) but I couldn't get CWM to flash up. Found out about the bootloader being locked..
followed this to unlock the bootloader:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=38231332&postcount=2230
Before I go on, yes, I did hook it up to the computer using debugging mode and installed the drivers. However I cannot get the V10K firmware that everyone seems to like for KDZ (and truthfully I don't fully understand it), my version is V10E
So I used to reboot2recovery.bat in the 2nd link like it said. Excellent! CWM came up! Wouldn't install CM10, said it was "Bad". So I reset it and restarted the phone, and now it wont stay on.
Looked around one last time before posting, and I found this link that had a download for V10K, but I need my phone to stay on to do this! ahaha
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26341025&postcount=1
Anyone got any ideas? thanks! sorry for the length, I just wanted to cover the bases.
EDIT: Self resolved. The phone is stable once again after I installed V10K Following this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31828740&postcount=1191
hopefully this helps anyone else with this issue if they come across it. Now, to try to get CM10 on it.
EDIT 2: CM10 installed. Buggy, but that's what you get with an unstable version works great otherwise! Noticed when I downgraded to V10K my phones model changed from lg-p705g to lg-p700 as well, which made the whole thing much easier! Picture came out red like this because the screenshot app doesn't like the phone or something. Thank you to everyone who made this possible through your tutorials

Hello,
I have a Sprint Galaxy S4 (but you knew that.) that is currently running 4.4.2 Android. I have rooted my phone, but I never installed any roms, I am still using the stock touchwiz. For a while now, my phone has been telling me "system update downloaded" and wants me to install it.
Basically: How do I go about updating my phone without breaking something due to my root status. Should I un-root? Should I just hit update? I'm skeptical because I don't know much about fixing my phone if I accidentally brick it.
Alternatively, would I be better just getting a rom, like Cyanogen? I don't hate touchwiz as much as I probably should, haha.
Side note, I apologize if this has been raised before, I have been searching for answers to this since the first time my phone notified me of the update, between Google searches and searching this forum, I haven't found a topic that addresses my issue.

You coins just try a custom Touchwiz ROM like mine (Wicked X). You can't install the OTA on a rooted system, you need to unroot to take the OTA.

Please xda brethren, I need some help. My niece purchased a sgs4, which was rooted for like $150. She was in need of a phone. Anyway, the damn thing has been permanently frozen after a week of use. So i figured maybe flashing it back to stock rom. I found the links to download the stock rom, but its taking forever to get it down. I've been at this since 9:30 THIS MORNING and it hasn't downloaded fully yet. the download keeps stopping. I have to be back at work in 6 1/2 hours and i haven't even slept yet. Can someone please out of the kindness of your heart provide me with the latest stock rom for the sgs4. I'm dying over here for sleep. :crying::crying::crying::crying:
