I tried accessing recovery mode and it shows the google logo and turns off, also the phone wont turn on without the charger. The phone also had the red light of dead problem.

I would suggest to let it charge for a few hours and try again.

Still not working.
I found a video online that shows what's happening to my nexus but can't post it here.
I had the same issue. You need a new battery.

If you bought it today just exchange it. Unless you did something on the software level.

It would be better if you take it to the service center.
Connect it to the charger and press the on off button for about 30 seconds if it still doesn't switch on, take it back to the shop.
Samethung happened to me left it for a day tried to turn it on and I could see the backlight on so I plugged it in the charger and it started working again.

Just got my new Nexus 4 8GB from Google.
I haven't inserted a SIM yet, as I am not having the smaller size SIM card. (expecting it soon)
After charging I have tried to boot up the handset and its not booting.
No Google/Nexus logo nothing.
If I connect it to laptop it shows charging symbol but nothing is working.
What can be the issue?
Is SIM required for first boot?
let it charge for an hour or more... then check it out trying to get into bootloader mode

Let me try it.
Any issues or just another hiccup?
It worked.
I charged it for 5 hours and then it booted.
This is similar to RED LED blinking of death situation.
Thanks a lot

Why did you buy a nexus 4 after seeing your friend's ñ4 with red light of death? Are you some kind of masochist?

I have a case on my Nexus 7 that uses the four sensors on the side to turn the screen on and off. I was using the tablet just fine, then I close the case like normal, and upon opening it, it would not turn on. The only way to get a response from the device is by plugging it in and the screen just lights up black. Any type of power reset using the button combinations result in the screen shown in the video at the end of the post.

Sorry I can't post the link. I don't have 10 posts yet.
Solution: I removed the back cover and disconnected and reconnected the battery.

100% stock. It never did anything of the sort. I didn't get the 4.2.2 update until around Wednesday of last week and it happened on Friday

Not that I can recall. The tablet is purely my Portable Netflix/Evernote slave. I've left it on the wall charger for 24 hours, and on a usb port charger for 24 hours, to see if that helps but that won't do anything.
Re: Strange Screen When Booting
If you don't have anything important saved, you might to just try and wipe everything and start fresh. Are you rooted?

I have nothing that I would need to save, and how would I accomplish the wipe? I've never done it with an ASUS device before.
Re: Strange Screen When Booting
Check the stickies in the dev section, they will show you how to root/unroot and flash back to stock. You can likely just use the updated nexus 7 toolkit.

All of the options are saying it needs to be in ADB or in Android. I can't get it to show any of those screens to verify I'm in that mode.

I got it fixed. I ended up just removing the back and disconnecting the battery to force a power off. Thanks for your help though that tool will come in handy later

Good deal!
There have been a couple threads where folks reported similarly-behaving screens. "sparkles", "static", "like an old tv screen", et cetera. I think at least several of them were similarly traced to battery charge issues or loose terminals on the battery connector.
Maybe add "[SOLVED]" to your thread title and it will help future visitors with the same issue.
cheers

Seems you have the red light of death ( RLOD) . Can you get into the boot loader?
Plug in the charger, hold power button and volume down button. If you can get into bootloader then use the volume key to select "power down" and use power button to choose that option. Then just leave the phone plugged in for a while.
I've had it only take maybe 5 minutes and other times take an hour. Try turning it on, if it just vibrates then shows the Google screen and reboots then redo the steps and leave it plugged in and let it sit for longer

Check the file you flashed. Sounds like you flashed a ROM not meant for the nexus 4 like a nexus 7 ROM.
If that's the case you are bricked and only a JTAG will save it.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
If you can get in bootloader:
download the ROM from computer (correct one)
get into recovery
mount usb storage
put ROM in phone
flash rom
wipe
reboot
you might have to hold power and volume down for awhile.. 10+ seconds
You posted this in the wrong forum btw.. next time Q&A would be appropriate

Looks like that is a gs2 ROM. Only way to save it is JTAG.
For future reference only flash Roms made for the device you are using.

Hmmm. What were you doing prior to the issue? Any software flashing, or has it suffered any knocks or drops at all?
If you boot it up for the 10 seconds already connected to the pc does the pc recognise something is trying to connect?
