Just got my new Nexus 4 8GB from Google.
I haven't inserted a SIM yet, as I am not having the smaller size SIM card. (expecting it soon)
After charging I have tried to boot up the handset and its not booting.
No Google/Nexus logo nothing.
If I connect it to laptop it shows charging symbol but nothing is working.
What can be the issue?
Is SIM required for first boot?
let it charge for an hour or more... then check it out trying to get into bootloader mode

Let me try it.
Any issues or just another hiccup?
It worked.
I charged it for 5 hours and then it booted.
This is similar to RED LED blinking of death situation.
Thanks a lot

And what did he do to boot his phone again? Also just let it charge for some time?
Why did you buy a nexus 4 after seeing your friend's ñ4 with red light of death? Are you some kind of masochist?

Seems you have the red light of death ( RLOD) . Can you get into the boot loader?
Plug in the charger, hold power button and volume down button. If you can get into bootloader then use the volume key to select "power down" and use power button to choose that option. Then just leave the phone plugged in for a while.
I've had it only take maybe 5 minutes and other times take an hour. Try turning it on, if it just vibrates then shows the Google screen and reboots then redo the steps and leave it plugged in and let it sit for longer

Check the file you flashed. Sounds like you flashed a ROM not meant for the nexus 4 like a nexus 7 ROM.
If that's the case you are bricked and only a JTAG will save it.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
If you can get in bootloader:
download the ROM from computer (correct one)
get into recovery
mount usb storage
put ROM in phone
flash rom
wipe
reboot
you might have to hold power and volume down for awhile.. 10+ seconds
You posted this in the wrong forum btw.. next time Q&A would be appropriate

Looks like that is a gs2 ROM. Only way to save it is JTAG.
For future reference only flash Roms made for the device you are using.

See if you can power it on in the download mode. I forgot the button combo, but it's volume up or down (or both) and power.

It won't work. Its bricked just like all of the others who flashed roms or kernels not meant for the N4.

Is a machine that can rewrite your memory without turning the phone on their are some shops on the internet that do it. last I checked only other option is lg and they are going to be more expensive than a shop.

Last night I plugged my nexus in before falling asleep, the battery wasn't extremely low (20%) and it seemed to start charging completely fine. However, when i woke up i unplugged the phone and was unresponsive, I tried holding the power button and such, but to no avail. I then plugged the device back into the wall and the notification light came on a solid red. I tried to turn the device on again and still had no success. I've had it plugged in with the red light on for about 7 hours now and there is no change at all. Please anyone have any knowledge pertaining to what the problem is and how it could be solved?

I am also facing this problem...can u please help how to resolve this?
Hello I'm new to the nexus 4 forms. Okay so today I traded my Galaxy note 1 for the nexus 4 and the HTC One x. I was really excited to see the nexus 4 for the first time. Upon looking at it, the screen had 3 cracks in it but the person said it still functions fine. Cracks don't really bother me that much anyway. He also said that it needed a new battery and that the phone can still be turned on/used. When I went home I plugged it in and I saw a flashing red-light. Then a few minutes after I saw the charging icon on the screen. I waited abit more and tried powering on, the battery icon disappeared and I saw the flashing red light again, I left it alone for about 30m+ and when I looked at it I saw the battery icon filling up and down but there was no raise in charge. So I started looking things up. I have tried opening the phone and disconnecting the battery on and off the board, stripping a USB cable with the + and - connections putting it on the battery for 13-15mins plugged into a laptop (I used my playstation 2), and that didn't work. What I then did is take the battery out and plugged in the charger only. I managed to get into the bootloader screen but when pressing start I see the Google word and it just shuts off. Awhile later it just got to the point where when I plug in the charger the red light blinks and stays that way (occasionally I will see the charging logo). I will buy a new battery if needed I just wanted to make sure there's something I didn't try yet, or confirm the battery is the issue. There doesn't appear to be any water damage and everything looks clean inside the phone. I can post a picture of the battery if needed. Hopefully this phone isn't dead and can be working again, I saw afew videos called the red light of death where the nexus 4 was plugged in with a steady red light appearing with no charging at all, mine only flashes so I think that is a good sign. I guess I will plug it in all night when i go to sleep hoping for it to turn on in the morning. I've also already called lg and they have horrible service... Please let me know if there's anything else I can try. Thanks!

You gotta be kidding right... Dang. So one Crack will make it not work? I mean I'm on my HTC Droid and I was able to still use it 100% normal after dropping and cracking the screen slightly.

we are talking about LG nexus 4 , not a htc. Nexus 4 digitizer is made directly on front glass.
so my nexus 4 got bricked by my mate, and all it does is a red LED light I can't get into recovery is there any way I can fix this?
There's already a thread for this but happened to me and called Google. They said to keep it plugged in for 10+ hours and try to turn it on.

Does it matter? Just try it out, what doesnt work for others does not mean it wont work for you!
Keeping it plugged has saved me 2 times from the red light, but it didnt take me 10 hours (more like 30 minutes or so)
If that wont work theres the fix somewhere in the nexus 4 forums, just search a bit, should be a sticky
