Long time lurker first time poster. I recently picked up the VZW LG G2, coming from the GS4.
I am having issues getting a custom recovery image to work. I am on 12B ota. I rooted with ioroot and confirmed root via Titanium. Tried two different root methods (push with ADB and Flashify)
Currently when I try to enter recovery the phone freezes, screen lit up, until I power it off.
Can anyone push me in the right direction?

the way I did it and the only way I could find was to download freegee from the market and it installs the recovery of your choice.
That did the trick. Thank you

One more question.
On the GS4 I had philz touch that auto lokied Roms. Are there any recoveries that I can flash that have this built in? Or is there a "loki doki" flashable zip like the GS4 had? Thanks given for any help.

I'm completely new to Loki, can someone answer these questions, please?
1. On Verizon, which Recovery is my best choice?
2. Is Loki built in the recovery?
3. Once I have recovery can I just flash roms, etc. From recovery like normal? Nothing extra?
I did search, so please, your answers and time are appreciated.

Get TWRP from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2449670
Install instructions are included in that thread. I used flashify but heard others had issues.
Once its installed you can flash ROMs and the one kernel or mods till you drop.
So Loki makes s off obsolete?

See this tread I wrote about installing Loki-enabled ClockworkMod recovery on Verizon LG G2:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2498941
1) Either CWM or TWRP. I don't think either is "best"; they generally do the same things. Each recovery has its fans. The tread above is specific to CWM recovery.
2) By default, no. I created Loki-enabled images for CWM. There is a loki-enabled image for TWRP if you wish to use that. Once you have the image handy, you can use the steps described in the post above to install it.
3) Once you have CWM or TWRP custom recovery, You can flash custom ROMs like normal.

I flashed twrp on my Verizon LGG2. I was just wondering, since I have to have the standard recovery to get OTA updates(hopefully next one is Kit Kat), does anyone know where I can find it for my phone?
Sent from my VS980 4G using Tapatalk 2
You will get kitkat much faster from the developers than you will an ota

Good to know, but doesn't answer my question.

Not sure, but I was wondering about this also. I think I'm just going to go back to stock when we get 4.4.

load the factory image using the LG tool. this will put you back to original stock, of course it will wipe your phone.
just an FYI, taking an OTA could possibly remove the ability to root your phone in the future. SO make sure that is really what you want.
I also have a similar question involving CWM. At the moment I have TWRP as my recovery (used flashify to install it), however I would prefer to use CWM. If I flash CWM via flashify, will it replace TWRP?

Freegee fully supports the g2. For recoveries you get cwm or twrp.

I would veriy Roms for at work with new update before you take an ota. On the vs980 I took the 12b ota and found out that not many devs have patched their work to operate with the ota.
Had to flash back to 10b then just flashed the 12b radio

Freegee
I am running Verizon LG G2 on 12B rooted, stock rom and have CWM with Freegee
I ran two backups and want to flash a custom rom but worried about after you flash the new ROM is CWM and Freegee still gonna be there???
I have tried to get into recovery with holding the Vol + up and power but it just boots normal...
I see some of you are using Flashify root but if I want to use that how do you remove Freegee and CWM?
Also I can see my backups while in recovery on cwm but with phone on and using Astro File Manager I go into the Clockworkmod dir and don't see my backups in there.
Any thoughts. I am gonna wait to flash new rom until I know for sure I can if need be get to my backups.
Update--->> Installed TWRP and now I can see my backups and get into recovery by holding both volume down + power. As soon as the LG logo comes up release it and immediately do the same thing again and hold them down. It will bring you to a reset screen and you hit power 3 times. and it starts TWRP.

I'm new to the G2... Coming from the Gnex. Just want to get a little clarification prior to going flash happy. After activating I took the 12b update. Rooted and used freegee to flash a custom recovery. Made a stock rooted back up... So, now can I flash back and forth between 4.4.X & 4.2.X ROMs? Do I have to wait to flash some ROMs until they're updated because I'm on 12b? Also, I'm assuming the bootloader is locked hence the need for freegee correct? If this is the case, will we ever be able to flash a recovery without the need for freegee or other tools of that nature?
Thanks?
Sent from my VS980 4G using xda app-developers app
Yes. Only flash ones that are loki patched with the correct version. There is a workaround here, but most roms will have info if patched or not. Freege is just for simple flashing of recovery if you don't want to adb push. Boatloader is locked, but firmware/loki make the incompatibilities with some roms.
Is the end result the same if I flash a recovery with freegee or by pushing it via adb?
Sent from my VS980 4G using xda app-developers app
Also, are all of the roms within the Verizon G2 development section compatible or do I still need to verify they're Loki patched?
Thanks so much?
Sent from my VS980 4G using xda app-developers app
Yes, same result on recovery. I'm not quite sure and do not think so. I would verify.
You are welcome.

Ok, I apologize, but I'm still a bit confused. If all Verizon G2's require a type of backdoor recovery utilizing tools such as freegee why aren't all roms on the Verizon development thread compatible? There aren't many roms listed in the Verizon thread that specify being loki patched... do I have to do something different in order to flash these roms that don't specify being loki patched?
Thank you, I do appreciate your response.

Little bit of info on where I'm at at the moment. I have the VZW G2 and took the update to 12b before I rooted the phone. Rooted about a week ago without any hiccups but now I want to flash a recovery and then a rom--most likely http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2559920 this rom or any other very stable AOSP based roms. I've been researching for a while now and have seen multiple instances of people deleting things and messing up their phone big time. This is a pretty expensive device and I really don't want it to become a paperweight so I want to be as thorough as possible.
For the recovery, I've seen a couple different methods for twrp and cwm. I'd like to use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2587296 one but I'm stuck with the instructions. This method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2449670 gives excellent instructions but I am unsure if it is compatible with the 12b version. Can anyone that has successfully flashed TWRP using the second method chime in? Or if you've used the first method on 12b, explain how exactly I would flash twrp with it?
As for the rom, it gives excellent instructions but I want to be 100% positive that I won't brick my phone. What shouldn't I do when flashing this rom? I saw another thread that someone wiped the system before he was going to flash the rom and that wiped his rom too resulting in him bricking his phone. Any help or tips would be excellent. I'm very new to all this and really want to get into flashing and trying out all these great roms. Thanks in advance to anyone that can help.
Use freegee from the play store to flash twrp... all kk roms have bugs to some extent as this point.

Would you recommend freegee over flashify?
I can only speak for freegee. Haven't used any other method yet for flashing recovery... freegee has worked well for me and seems to be the most recommended.
