Flashing recovery and rom on VZW 12b - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Little bit of info on where I'm at at the moment. I have the VZW G2 and took the update to 12b before I rooted the phone. Rooted about a week ago without any hiccups but now I want to flash a recovery and then a rom--most likely http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2559920 this rom or any other very stable AOSP based roms. I've been researching for a while now and have seen multiple instances of people deleting things and messing up their phone big time. This is a pretty expensive device and I really don't want it to become a paperweight so I want to be as thorough as possible.
For the recovery, I've seen a couple different methods for twrp and cwm. I'd like to use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2587296 one but I'm stuck with the instructions. This method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2449670 gives excellent instructions but I am unsure if it is compatible with the 12b version. Can anyone that has successfully flashed TWRP using the second method chime in? Or if you've used the first method on 12b, explain how exactly I would flash twrp with it?
As for the rom, it gives excellent instructions but I want to be 100% positive that I won't brick my phone. What shouldn't I do when flashing this rom? I saw another thread that someone wiped the system before he was going to flash the rom and that wiped his rom too resulting in him bricking his phone. Any help or tips would be excellent. I'm very new to all this and really want to get into flashing and trying out all these great roms. Thanks in advance to anyone that can help.

Use freegee from the play store to flash twrp... all kk roms have bugs to some extent as this point.

Would you recommend freegee over flashify?

I can only speak for freegee. Haven't used any other method yet for flashing recovery... freegee has worked well for me and seems to be the most recommended.

Anyone succesfully using CWM

I am having problems with TWRP when I try to install stock roms
So I am thinking about going to CWM( a auto loki version) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2291956&highlight=cwm
Anyone succesfully flashing roms using CWM?
I've been using it and it works for me , although twrp did too.
Had major issues with twrp..like the UI but it let me down big time when I needed to restore. Had to Odin back to stock. No issues with CWM

I too am confused as to which CWM to use. Any links for SGH-I337 that has Loki exploit already added and such?

So two diffent versions of cwm. Which one are people using. Isn't it better to have the auto Loki version?

I use ouhds auto Loki recovery by shabbypenguin
Sent from my WANAM'ED AT&T S4
wasn't 2.5.0.3 the only troublesome twrp--"2.5.0.2" works fine???
done some reading on the other cwm--not shabby's--it is linked in several places, requiring a lot of reading. But, came away with the impression it is still not fully auto "lokified" for us. May have come to the "wrong" conclusion though. It was late at night when reading threads. Would have to re-read everything--
OUDHS is currently the only CWM with the "auto-loki" feature. PhilZ touch cwm (AT&T version) has been lokied to allow for install, but it does not "auto-loki". The Loki-Doki script needs to be used if the kernel / ROM being flashed through it hasn't already been lokied.

Flashify okay now?

I'm getting my G2 on Monday. A month or two ago I read these forums religiously when I was trying to decide what to upgrade to it was highly recommend not to use flashify to install TWRP. Now Im reading a lot about people using flashify. Has something changed? Has the common consensus changed? Thanks for any input.

I actually have not heard anything bad about using flashify to install TWRP. I did this and everything went smoothly

Used it for CWM. Everything else I do through CWM.
I can't remember exactly what the issue was. Something happening after the fact. It was removed from options in the twrp guide. Maybe that was with an older version of twrp

I actually used flashify to install TWRP on my At&t D800. I downloaded the .img and flashed recovery through flashify. Although you NEED root AND busybox installed. This method worked fine for me.

Where did you downloaded TWRP img & what is the version of your G2 ? Would like to try it if it is fine. Thanks.
If you don't want any problems or are timid and scared of recovery hard flash, do as citytrader suggests. It is very easy. Some people, like me, can be lazy and purposely risky with certain things and go the easy, tinkering, and sometimes damaging route. ;]

One simple wrong line of code, something not playing well, no recovery. How isn't it besides pushing actual legit perfect line yourself.

Thanks for the info, unfortunately my version, d802b, doesn't supported.
Done it twice. Both before and after OTA. No problems either time. (Second time was after a brick rescue due to my incompetence.)

Yea no problems here. Rooted from my PC, then downloaded Flashify and installed custom recovery.

[Q] flashing ROMs/Kernels on VS980

I'm new to the G2... Coming from the Gnex. Just want to get a little clarification prior to going flash happy. After activating I took the 12b update. Rooted and used freegee to flash a custom recovery. Made a stock rooted back up... So, now can I flash back and forth between 4.4.X & 4.2.X ROMs? Do I have to wait to flash some ROMs until they're updated because I'm on 12b? Also, I'm assuming the bootloader is locked hence the need for freegee correct? If this is the case, will we ever be able to flash a recovery without the need for freegee or other tools of that nature?
Thanks?
Sent from my VS980 4G using xda app-developers app
Yes. Only flash ones that are loki patched with the correct version. There is a workaround here, but most roms will have info if patched or not. Freege is just for simple flashing of recovery if you don't want to adb push. Boatloader is locked, but firmware/loki make the incompatibilities with some roms.
Is the end result the same if I flash a recovery with freegee or by pushing it via adb?
Sent from my VS980 4G using xda app-developers app
Also, are all of the roms within the Verizon G2 development section compatible or do I still need to verify they're Loki patched?
Thanks so much?
Sent from my VS980 4G using xda app-developers app
Yes, same result on recovery. I'm not quite sure and do not think so. I would verify.
You are welcome.

Ok, I apologize, but I'm still a bit confused. If all Verizon G2's require a type of backdoor recovery utilizing tools such as freegee why aren't all roms on the Verizon development thread compatible? There aren't many roms listed in the Verizon thread that specify being loki patched... do I have to do something different in order to flash these roms that don't specify being loki patched?
Thank you, I do appreciate your response.

if you are on the 10o software version on an ATT phone ten yes I would recommend flashing back wit the flash tool if you want to be able to flash roms. There are a lot of people that had the 0o software and had issues flashing different roms

Sprint LG G2, can't install a custom recovery

Hello all, I've got an LG G2 LS980 on 4.2.2 Jellybean. (I do not want to update to Kitkat) I cannot seem to install a custom recovery. I've read multiple guides and followed them all perfectly.. The ones using loki flash always give an error such as "Not a valid loki image" or "aboot version does not match the device" I've tried using the dd command on teamwin's site as well and all it did was completely remove my stock recovery. I've spent days trying to get this to work, please could someone help

You said you read multiple guides, so I'm sure you've done this one already. If so, I would suggest you .tot to ZVA and start over. I first installed recovery on ZVA and didn't have issues like yourself.
