Hello all, I've got an LG G2 LS980 on 4.2.2 Jellybean. (I do not want to update to Kitkat) I cannot seem to install a custom recovery. I've read multiple guides and followed them all perfectly.. The ones using loki flash always give an error such as "Not a valid loki image" or "aboot version does not match the device" I've tried using the dd command on teamwin's site as well and all it did was completely remove my stock recovery. I've spent days trying to get this to work, please could someone help

Here is the guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2522965
You said you read multiple guides, so I'm sure you've done this one already. If so, I would suggest you .tot to ZVA and start over. I first installed recovery on ZVA and didn't have issues like yourself.

I'm getting my G2 on Monday. A month or two ago I read these forums religiously when I was trying to decide what to upgrade to it was highly recommend not to use flashify to install TWRP. Now Im reading a lot about people using flashify. Has something changed? Has the common consensus changed? Thanks for any input.

I actually have not heard anything bad about using flashify to install TWRP. I did this and everything went smoothly

Used it for CWM. Everything else I do through CWM.
I can't remember exactly what the issue was. Something happening after the fact. It was removed from options in the twrp guide. Maybe that was with an older version of twrp

I actually used flashify to install TWRP on my At&t D800. I downloaded the .img and flashed recovery through flashify. Although you NEED root AND busybox installed. This method worked fine for me.

Where did you downloaded TWRP img & what is the version of your G2 ? Would like to try it if it is fine. Thanks.
If you don't want any problems or are timid and scared of recovery hard flash, do as citytrader suggests. It is very easy. Some people, like me, can be lazy and purposely risky with certain things and go the easy, tinkering, and sometimes damaging route. ;]

How is using flashify dangerous?

One simple wrong line of code, something not playing well, no recovery. How isn't it besides pushing actual legit perfect line yourself.

Thanks for the info, unfortunately my version, d802b, doesn't supported.
Done it twice. Both before and after OTA. No problems either time. (Second time was after a brick rescue due to my incompetence.)

Yea no problems here. Rooted from my PC, then downloaded Flashify and installed custom recovery.

i know that... im asking about the freegee app
Download the recovery and use flashify from the market to flash the recovery. Also no boot loader unlock. We don't,need it at the moment as the recovery uses Loki which bypasses the boot loader

I emailed the Dev a couple of weeks ago. He said an update was coming soon for us g2 users, although I haven't seen it happen yet. Not sure if I'd trust it yet.

Dear All,
I desperate need of help here. Sorry if I may sound Noob on this topic. I have international LG G2 (D802) - Rooted with custom recovery TWRP.
I'm not able install some custom roms based on Android 4.4.+ with error msg stating....
1. Error executing updater binary in zip
2. Status 7 . installation abort.
I did google on this subject and tried every single method from editing the binary file upto switching over the recovery (from TWRP to CWM) but still the problem exist
My guess is...... it may occur due to unlocked bootloader............. I don't know the status of my bootloader.......... just need help in unlocking the bootloader....
Just use search and not only google...
Flashing Philz recovery should help.
Aand you can not unlock the bootloader of a g2 btw.

I used to and still have the status 7 error often in galaxy s 2 and what u do is unpack rom and open update script in notepad ++ and remove the first 3 lines where it describes about get prop make sure to place the cursor on the start of first line and hold delete until the first 3 lines are removed and 4th lime sits in 1st line exactly without any further changes save it and repack it as it was before and try if it helps.

I went to stock and started over with the updated twrp with the new lok support. Finally able to flash a few things again.
If I ever get an OTA update (almost unheard of on AT&T), what do I need to do before I install it to not mess up my phone? It's currently just rooted on the stock ROM.

unless you put a custom recovery on the phone

you get a nice recovery bootloop
but if you get an update
just use the update tool on the pc and plug your phone in and even if you
have a custom recovery it'll update because the update tool does it in download mode
What does "upgrade recovery" do in LG Mobile Support Tool? I tried googling it and couldn't find anything. I rooted and installed TWRP, and the LG Mobile Support tool says I don't have an update available but I'm only on the D80010d, not D80010o

Hi, I tried to flash twrp recovery with some help from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2449670 but it keeps saying fail.. I tried both options.
if rooted freegee is easier from app store, it gets proper automagically.
If trying to flash via cwm, get the recovery flashable zip from the thread and not the img. Doubt thats the case
Where did you get that awesome avatar btw?

btw I created my avatar through this site http://www.faceyourmanga.com/editmangatar.php
sorry for my English I'm European .
BTW again, do I need an unlocked bootloader to flash roms like paranoid I'm on d802
"Keeps saying it failed" What failed, in what part? Also currently there's no way to unlock the bootloader, but use loki bypass instead, basically when you have recovery installed, you don't have to worry much about bootloader or loki.

Yes you can and flash them without any problems. Only in twrp settings tick the option to use different format command or it'll take like 10 minutes to wipe cache
