Hi,
I have a Soundmagic E10M earphones.
It has 3 buttons, 2 volume keys and a call button.
But the volume keys does not work, they work fine on my iPad.
Is there any way to get them work on my Nexus 4.

Try other normal headphones if they work then probably Soundmagic might not be compatible with N4.

Hi,
I am wondering if anyone has used iphone 4s headphones or the new earpods with microphone with Nexus 4. If so, can you provide some feedback in terms of whether or not the buttons and the microphone work to make calls/ use with skype, and/or use with music apps?
Thanks,
I'm also interested if they work on Nexus 4 or not as I want to buy new headphones and my favourite ones seem only to work on iDevices because of the pin assignment and are not recognized by my current phone. Would be nice if someone could check this by plugging in the original Apple headphones and check if you can listen to music with them.
I can confirm that both the middle button and the mic work just fine with the ear pods. Volume buttons don't work, as I expected.
Borrowed a pair off a friend with an iDevice.

I had have quite some problems while talking over the ear phones of earlier Galaxy Nexus and Apple Ear pods as the other person doesn't seem to hear my voice properly, whereas I have seen everything else working properly while listening the music except Volume Controls.
So if you want to buy these for calls and Voice Chatting over VOIP, I suggest to do some enough research on OMTP and CTIA for nexus 4.
for all android and blackberry devices, you can use the pause/mute and mic but volume buttons wont work as they are designed to only work on iDevices

The volume buttons will never work. Samsung and Apple use a special headset jack with an extra pin to detect the volume buttons on their headsets. LG doesn't have them. So the issue lies in the hardware.
Hi all,
I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 stock headphone. There are 3 button on it, one for call receiving, 2 other to adjust phone's volume. I can use the call receiving button to answer a call and pause/play the playing song, but these 2 other buttons do nothing. I put it in the OneX and I can next/prev in the music player by using these 2 buttons. Any one have the same issue with me?

Phu

I want to lock the volume buttons on my phone and still beable to control the volume with my headphones.
When I put my phone into my exercise belt the volume buttons sometimes get pushed and I blow my ears out or lose my music.
It's there an app that can allow me control over my volume via headphones only when the headphones are plugged in?
Thanks-

And again just working out and some how I reported a police trap on Waze. If I could some how disable power and volume buttons that would be great.

I've been using Ultimate Ears 400vi on my iPhone 4 and it've been working great. Recently I got myself a Note 3, the earphone play/pause button works but not the volume up and down.
Any idea?
I had the same earphones and the volume buttons never worked on any Android device, I learnt to live with it.
Robust buggers they were too, survived a full wash/spin/tumble dry in my washing machine. A Samsung washing machine, obviously...

Thanks for the info. Guess I'll have to start living with it till it broke.
You could try Headset Button Controller app from play store.
I used it on my girlfriends Nexus 4 to be able to use my Beats headset buttons.
They have a free trial version:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kober.headset
Maybe worth a try
It's a common problem you can't fix. Apple has an own style/method of using the headphone buttons, which differs from the - common - android like method, which is used by samsung, htc and so on.

Thank you, will check it out. Sincr I'm here, are there apps that is similar to swipeselection and f.lux in IOS?
As far as I know, Android does not support the Volume controls on any headset remote.
Some mediaplayers like N7 support double/triple click skipping, but not volume.
As for f.lux, there's Lux Auto Brightness: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vito.lux (There's a free version, too).

Volume works with Headset Button Controller on Nexus 4. I'll give it a try on my Note 3 tomorrow to see what it does on that one.

Incorrect. Samsung ships headphones with the S4 that control volume as well as song pause/skip.
Look them up on Amazon. Sound quality is O.K., nothing stellar, but they work.
Apparently http://www.jays.se/a-jays-five has android specific versions with volume as well, but I haven't tried them.
Read a rumor that the Jays software will enable volume for any headphone, but I've not confirmed it.
