Good evening team.
I have the following problem with a Samsung galaxy note III:
The cell phone won´t turn on, neither charge or do anything.
If I hold the power button it doesn´t show any type of response, the screen will stay black and dead.
If I plug the charger, It´ll show the battery icon loading for about 2 seconds and the phone will turn off again, then it turns on again only to show the battery icon for 2 seconds and then die again, looping until I unplug the charger.
What may be the problem? It started since someone let fall the cellphone.
May it be a mobo failure?
Any help will be appreciated.
Seems like a hardware problem to me. You have warranty right? Good thing they won't be able to figure out if you tripped Knox or not. Just take it to service centre

Thank you very much, but unfortunately the phone isn´t mine, it´s from a relative, and I don´t think they still have the warranty. That´s why I´m trying to figure out what happened, and how to fix it, if it´s possible.
At first glance I thought it may be a software problem, but when I received the Note 3 and made a few tests, I have come to the same conclusion, a Hardware failure, but I don´t know which part may be the broken one.
Are there any marks showing the phone was dropped? I would not mention anything about phone falling to service guy, I don't think accidental damage is covered under manufacturer warranty.
There are some marks on the battery cover, but it´s easy to change that, I´ll take that as a advise, I´ll search for a service centre, if such thing exists in Mexico. If not, what else could I do?
Contact Samsung. This sounds like a hard brick, which they will fix if the device is under 1 year old. This happened to my GS2 in 2012, I mailed it to them & they fixed it for free under warranty.
I´ll try to contact samsung tomorrow, thanks for all your attention, have a nice day. :highfive:
There are videos on youtube how to open it up and get to motherboard and all else, but basically take back cover out, undo 8 screws and pull it apart. I would look for something loose, like wire, connector etc., maybe check how far power gets (I think it should be getting at least to power switch, even when off). Outside of that you would at least need schematics and some equipment. Another way would be to look at the damage and try to figure out what parts the impact affected the most and look closely in that area. The fact the screen comes up at all, it may be something simple, but if it doesn't turn on, makes it impossible to test internally. Maybe it would be harder to find service center in Mexico, but it should be easier to find some small independent repair shop and probably cheaper.
Check if the phone can go into download mode if not you are all set to go to sent it to samsung if it does go to download mode check whether it has waranty if it has you can sent it if not make sure it won't boot to download mode in order to sent it whether this is done by hardware damage or software is up to you personally I would choose software...if I could at this point...
Talked to Samsung, and they won´t repair it, I guess is up to me now, or some small repair shop near my area. Samsung wants to charge me about 500 USD in order to repair the phone, I can buy another phone for that. I´ll search for those videos. Thank you very much!
I´ve already tried recovery mode, Download mode, ADB, etc. But the phone doesn´t have power at all, so it´s impossible to turn it on, I believe it´s a HW problem, since the phone remained Stock and Original since purchase, and it was dropped. :silly: Thanks anyway, now I´ll try to figure out what is broken.

Ok, i've given up.
My HD2 is driving me nuts, i've been taking it for granted for a long time, but i've decided to send my HD2 for repairs.
Maybe some users can identify themselfs in my symptoms and perhaps go for a repair as well. I'll try to keep you guys up to date on this situation.
Status:
18/10 - Received my repair ticket. Scheduled pickup tomorrow between 08:00 and 10:00 GMT +1.
19/10 - Phone got picked up by courier service, 8.30AM in the morning.
20/10 till 25/10 - No change in status and/or picked up!
26/10 - Decided to call after a prolonged status update. Summary of conversation: "Yes, everything is fine. No the status hasn't been changed, but you should receive your phone back in about a total of 2 weeks, so somewhere next week i guess."
27-10 till 2/11 -- No change in status and message.
3-11 - Received a package back with my repaired phone! Results: Boardswap, phone shutdown while diagnosing at the repair center. They even replaced my camera lens!
Total repair time due: 15 days
The following below describes the problems that occur (allot!), perhaps you can identify yourself in this as well.
Issie:
- Phone restarts (randomly) and holds at the HTC boot logo when back(bottom)cover feels warm-to-hot.
- Phone reboots when back(bottom)cover is warm, but not hot enough to hang at HTC boot logo, but soon after booting to Windows mobile, the device may reboot again.
Happens when:
- Browsing Internet (3G/HSDPA)
- Listening to Music (through SD card)
- Playing a game
- Having a (long) phone call the device
(temporarily) fix for issue:
1. Do a ‘Battery-Pull’ (extracting the battery) which shuts down the device.
2. Let it cool down for a couple of minutes until the back(bottom)part doesn’t feel warm enough anymore.
3. Re-insert battery, and restart phone.
4. If cooled down enough, the phone will restart correctly when powering up the device, until issue happens again, where step 1 needs to be done again.
The above mentioned issue don’t happen when the devise isn’t put under ‘load’ (I.e: use applications/browse(the web)/music etc). Putting the phone in sleep/standby or just sending a text message will not reboot the phone.
Tried the following official fixes:
- Hard Resetting the device > Issue remains.
- Updating to a new (official) ROM (RUU_Leo_HTC_NLD_1.48.404.2_Radio_Signed_15.28.50.07U_2.05.51.05_2_Ship.exe )
> Issue remains, even after a Hard reset with above noted ROM.
- Formatting and/or removing the SD card from the Device > Issue remains.
Tried the XDA fixes:
- Different Radios: Any radio in the official HD2 Radio topic
- Many different Roms
- Formatted the SD card, tried a different one, and even None.
Concluding:
Seeing to have tried all options relating to a software issue, I think this might be a hardware issue.
Contact with HTC:
Having sent some messages over with HTC they sent me this last message:
[name]
(Benelux Support
(Tech)) Close Pending Hi Maseo, Thank you for letting me know. It really sounds like a hardware issue. Please let us know if you need anything else. Kind Regards, 2010/10/18 12:42:46
I have the exact same problem and tomorrow it is going to the repair center. Unfortunately I have a crack in the digitizer, I hope they don't use it as pretext to charge me extra!

My screen is still in mint condition, only thing that cracked if my camera-glass due to a bump against my table at home.. But more then that it's nothing.
I've noticed more people having the problem, so i thought maybe more people have my issues as well and could go for a repair after seeing this topic.

They will blame your problem on humidity in the device after the camera glass cracked. Did you change the camera-glass? I suggest you do that before you send it for repair otherwise you have to pay for the repairs as it does not fall under warranty (check on ebay for camera glass lens).
I think we're both in the same pickle:/
I am crossing my fingers they won't charge me.

I haven't. And a device breaking down from the camera end is highly unlikely.
It's impossible for me to replace it now as it's being picked up tomorrow morning. If they have to repair it, so be it. As long as it's not a outrageous high price..
You got experience in this, them blaming me in case of humidity, or you just guessing?

After speaking with their customer rep they pointed out to me that it is possible that the device malfunctions because of cracks leading to humidity and temperature problems. And that is not under warranty.
If your camera lens is cracked, it is easy for them to blame it on humidity due to the crack. This is a possible scenario, I can't predict but if we learned anything from repair under warranty, companies will to blame it on the customer before they fix it under warranty.
My advice to you is to cancel the pick up and reschedule another one later, go to ebay and buy a second hand glass lens and glue it yourself. It cost you less than 5$ to do that. Better than relying on their repair and end up paying hundreds of dollars. This way you eliminate the excuse of them blaming the defect on you.

Sounds plausible, but that wouldn't make sense in the way the device is manufactured. The CPU/GPU/Radio base i at the bottom. Any malfunctioning due to possible humidity in the camera would only lead to a malfunctioning camera, and that's not the case at this time.
Given, if i had more time i might have placed it, but i'm not in the occasion to do that right now.
I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed, im more afraid they'll go at you for a broken digitizer..

Double check this. Pull your battery and make sure that none of the pins are bent and touching each other. This has caused some issues, but not exactly the one you're describing but it can't hurt to check. If they are bent, straighten them out and see if the issue is resolved.

Thanks, but to no avail.
Those 3 pins were straight and sitting nice and snuggly against each other.
i also have a battery problem battery seems to be dying. under 30% phone becomes unstable. also sometimes doenst want to load or boot.
last 2 must be a connector problem (indeed it must be. put battery in without taking care to put contact points in the 3 little squares then the battery doesnt work)
ive mailed custumer service, it must be part of the warranty so i want a new battery

My problem has nothing to do with the battery at all.. don't hijack this topic for something un-related..
Day 2:
Phone is still enroute to HTC Service Center according to the Servicetracker..
how long does it take to deliver a phone i wonder..
My experience with HTC customer services
In the case of my HD2 (same symptoms):
Went back to Standard ROM/Radio/Bootloader Friday 17/09/10
Confirmed problem still existed on standard software 17/09/10
Called HTC customer services 18/09/10
Collection booked for Monday 20/09/10
Confirmation email received that phone had been received 21/09/10
Status changed from "Received your phone" to "Repairing your phone" 03/10/10
Status changed to "Awaiting despatch" (or something similar) 03/10/10
Received email confirmation phone was being shipped back to me 04/10/10
Received phone back with new IMEI (presume new motherboard) 05/10/10
All in all, I was without the phone for 2 weeks but I have no complaints about the service at all. A message telling me what they'd done to fix the problem would've been nice, but it's fixed and working perfectly so I'll forgive them for that.
After a week without my HD2, my spare phone was really annoying me due to it's lack of capability (HTC StrTrk) so I bought an Orange San Francisco, used it until my HD2 came back then sold it to someone I work with for what I paid for it.
Yeah, the fun thing is, is that the service center is almost figuratively around the corner, still they said it could take up to 2 weeks though.
I'm gonna get a Nokia 5800 as a lend-phone from a friend of mine.
I was looking into getting the Desire HD possibly this friday, but that's just too much as next to having the HD2, haha!
maseo im not trying to hijack anything!
maybe your sister if she looks nice.. so pls dont use that tone!
seems to be a battery issue with your phone so it seems with mine... it could also be a connector/motherboard problem so my post was on topic.
i submitted a problem to tech support and got a ticket they want me to call cust service to check my phone, i dont want to lose it for at least 2 weeks.
i want to get a new battery! so ill try to get that.
(also you reply a lot... do you want your posts to go up or something? )

Don't want to keep bumping it without no-reason, im just replying that's all ;-)
If it were a battery problem it would show other symptoms, ditto for the connector. Im more confident it's more hardware related, but to be precise what, i don't know.
A new battery is quite inexpensive, why don't you just get one? Saves you the hassle of getting (or trying to get) a new one through HTC.
Day 3 that my phone is underway, takes ages for a small trip by courier apparently ?

Ok so i flashed my galaxy s last night
flashed gingerbread with odin all went fine.
couldnt access cwm mode , so tried a reflash. it failed half way through the flash.
I suspect low battery was the cause of the fail (my fault i know before i get flamed )
after reading many post i was wondering if anyone knows where i can get it jtag
Prefferably in the north east uk, or know where i could sent it.
Thanks in advance
A quick ebay search gave me a lot of results....

thanks for your reply but these only work if you have some life in the phone, mine dosnt light up vibrate or anything
might be worth a try anyway... I mean you could always bring it to a repair centre???
Here is a tip for you, mate
If your phone is so damaged that no one seems to know what went wrong with it unless you told them you flashed a ROM and everything went wrong.
SEND TO SAMSUNG FOR FREE!
How? With your current condition, they can't tell that you messed around with it. Do not mention anything about Froyo, Gingerbread, Odin, Flash, Kernel. Act like you know nothing about all of those.
Try to put the blame on Kies. Tell them that you connected to Kies and it asked you for a Firmware Update. You click UPDATE and *KABOOM*. Your warranty would not be void. Trust me

I know it will sound dumb, but have you tried charging the battery? Does anything come out in the screen?

yes left it on charge over night
I bought my phone from someone else too. But the dude gave me a warranty document together with it.
I'm not sure if this applies to other region, but in Asia, phones have warranty stickers in them in case the warranty documents are not available.
Samsung Galaxy S GT i9000 has a warranty period of 2 years.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
And in most cases the Service Centre will just the IMEI of the phone to check the warranty status. Hope you get it sorted..
Normally, when you charge your phone and you press the power key, the screen will show a battery charging, and the level of charge. When you do it, does anything come out in the screen?
Just wanted to share what happened to my SGS2 yesterday. I've been playing Eternity Warriors and charging at same maybe for two hours, everything seemed to be fine but when i stopped game and disconnected charger MTP app keep showing that something is connected to USB port. I thought it's just a bug and decided to reboot phone... Then my phone stuck on black screen with big green battery and thermometer which indicates to hot battery, though it was cold (room temperature).
I left it off for few hours with the battery off, then inserted battery back but phone instantly switched into charging mode and after that same screen came on (with temp warning). I managed to boot it into download mode and flashed stock ROM (+kernel, baseband, CSC). Phone booted up normally but i kept showing "USB Connected" icon. Also i noticed that after fully charging battery and disconnecting the charger, battery level instantly drops to 82%. Tried to wipe battery stats but that didn't help.
This morning i went to Vodafone store and tried to insert new battery, sadly phone kept showing same temperature warning, so now the only way is to send it to service center My flash counter shows 29 which means i'll have to pay for repair from my pocket. No, i'm not going to buy USB jig to reset counter as that would be unfair.
Few tech details on what software i used when this happened:
SiyahKernel 2.2
CheckROM RevolutionHD 2.0
2ndCore app (i had disabled one CPU core at all times)
SetCPU (with set profiles to lower CPU clock once temperature rises. At +45C it supposed to set lowest 500MHz speed and "powersave" governor. Max CPU speed 1200MHz only when temp is lower than +38C).
PS. Sorry for my broken English, i know it becomes really bad when i'm p***ed off.
I'd recommend *thoroughly* cleaning your USB socket and checking the connector inside is straight (compare to another handset) before paying anyone to fix it... Mine was displaying similar symptoms, turned out my kid had been playing with it and bent the connector slightly out of place while it was plugged in.
I was using stock and rather than notifying USB connected it kept firing MTP restart/media scan alerts randomly.
In the same instance it's half alive. Schrodinger's phone!!!!!
Yeah, i tried to clean charging port but i didn't help. Thanks for idea anyways. I just brought it to repair shop, hopefully they will fix it.

HELL! It makes me sick when we BOOST of being guilty of flashing custom ROMs/Kernels. Where on EARTH is it documented by Samsung that doing so will void the warranty????
IT DOESN'T and you just robbed yourself of those 30 euros of INSISTING SAMSUNG that you have ABUSED your phone and hence it SHOULD be termed as OUT OF WARRANTY REPAIRS! I wish that amount could have gone into a better cause and could have earned you a good will instead of those service center folks probably laughing at you for making a "fool" of your self (no pun intended, please don't feel offended, just trying to make you realize what you have done and are spreading across!).

First of all i did not insist anything, calm down a bit. I just went to shop were i bought that phone and showed them what isn't working. Once they saw "yellow triangle" and custom binary count (at 29) i was told that my phone will not be serviced as it has "illegal software" on it unless i will pay for. Also they told me approximate price (~30euro) which is not THAT much for such a repair.
Secondly, even if had had an original firmware on it and custom binary counter at 0 i'd still had to pay for repair as USB port was physically damaged which is not covered by warranty i believe.
And lastly - FAIR PLAY.
PS. Flash some CM7 or MIUI, go to Samsung service center and try to ask them for some repair work, then you'll find out what is "legal" and what is not

Samsung service bulletin is well posted up for a few years custom rom and rooted phones are not acceptable as warranty returns and payment claims will be voided .
Why on earth would Devs warn users of the consequences if it was not true .
I believe Samfirmware had a link to the original Samsung memo .
I am also aware of a number of users posting that they where informed by the service centre that the phone was not acceptable for repair with a custom rom installed .
I have also had personal experience with O2 refusing warranty on a custom rom phone .
I also know enough about consumer protection trade laws etc to understand that Samsung are 100% correct in their refusal to provide warranty on such phones .
However many may take the risk and some of them will get away with it and some may meet an ignorant service guy who just fixes it anyway .
jje
lol 29 hahah
I think it's anything but unfair to use a usb jig.
In my point of view it's our ability to get our right as normal who know what they're doing.
Sammy knew what would happen, when they developed the binary counter and the usb jig.
I mean the usb jig is no hightech piece of hardware. Its just a 300k-ohm which connects pin 4-5.
I think its a way to support us custom rom useres, who are aware of the risks and would try everything on the software side to get the phone working again.

Is there any way you can check your flash counter? I've only ever flashed Lite'ning (to get CWM as it was messing up for me) and a MIUI ROM. Would I be safe to bring it back and get the screen repaired? It has a wicked blue/green hue when tilted to an angle.

To check the counter, enter download mode. Then the binary counter is shown on the top left corner.
This has happened a few times now, seems to be mainly while charging the side power button does nothing when pressed! I can unplug it from charger and still nothing. It also acts a bit wierd when coming in and out of apps or browsing internet, screen goes black for a few seconds.
This is normally a tell tale sign, as soon as I see black screen when opening an app, I know power button will be unresponsive (it will put screen into sleep when pressed, but nothing happens when you long press) and only option is to pull battery.

As @ultramag69 said, you have a problem - Get it swapped out, could be many reasons why it has happened. samuel.clarke had an issue with his WiFi which turned out to be a faulty Motherboard.
Would love to get it swapped, but spoke with O2 about problem and they have said I would need to send phone in for repair! Phone is just about a month old, and they have stated if fault can't be found or replicated, they will send phone back without fixing it.
Thing is its happened a few times now but its random. Also I have a very small pin prick dent on silver bezel, so no doubt they will try and blame this on why phone has a fault.

I was with o2 for years from inception in fact (switched to Three purely for unlimited internet), tbh they're actually pretty decent in regards to repairs. The phone is a month old, so just state that it's unacceptable and you want it swapped out or replaced as soon as possible. Bottom line is do not take no for an answer regardless of what they say.
You signed up to a contract?/laid out big money for PAYG? - and they wanna dilly dally about? tell them straight.
Thanks for replying
I'm on contract, its different on o2 now you basically pay a price each month for phone, then a price for your tariff. I argued with o2 repair guy for ages and all I got was " its in the terms and conditions" basically they have the right to repair first. Fair enough I said but a one month old phone shouldn't need repaired!
They told me only option was to send it in and they would check it out, but there's no guarantee that phone will show fault when they test it!

Ahh the refresh tariff?
Well the phone is bound to show a fault when they test it, sounds like they are being bone idle and don't want to send it off ( Most o2 shops are franchised so it costs them money to send it off)
Insist on them sending it off, if they find no fault, then can look at another plan (it may be something simple) - chances are they'll find a slight hardware fault if it isn't powering down.
Altho saying that... If they have the right to repair first then OK, but have you managed to sneak in before your 30days are up? cause that does apply in UK last I checked, and they have to repair HW faults or look into them at least.
My snapdragon phone started acting weird today. Was slow and locked up for many minutes doing just simple tasks.
Took a backup of the phone and ran a factory reset.
The phone was fast and smooth after this and i was satisfied. But then i did a reboot, and the phone never booted again.
It does not even charge. Just dead.
Anyone else had this issue? Had the phone since release, and it has never been rooted or anything that would break warranty, so i will contact the place i bought it from.
But can this might be battery related? In that case it would be much easier for me to get a new battery.
Have tried to charge it for a while without any result. Does not seem to draw any power either as the charger is cold..
but when i plug it in the pc, windows detects something for about 2 seconds, but claims it's unrecognizable...
Rocking my Nexus 4 now, smooth phone with android 6.0, but camera and battery sucks bigtime... I want my note back..
I have exact same problem. But my phone was rooted and service center told me my warranty is void. They told me the mainboard is bad and need to be replaced. It will cost about half of the new phone price...
Try pressing "Vol +" + "Vol -" + "Lock" + "Start" buttons for a few seconds
Pd: wrong section, this should go on troubleshouting

Take it to a different store from your carrier and this time don't tell them its been rooted. Tell them it hasn't been if they ask and they should replace it.
Have tried every combination possible with holding in buttons. No sign of life.. Good thing i got a backup while it was still "working"
I have had many plans to root the device and get in some custom ROM but i have been satisfied with stock and never found the time to do it, and i am happy for that now
Sorry for posting in the wrong place. Maby an admin can move this post?

This has been checked and it's not the problem. But thanks for suggestion.
If i get a new Note 4 on warranty i will probably sell it and get a Nexus phone, or install an clean ROM right away. Stock android is so much smoother than touchwiz.

Yeah, i don't know why the note 4s hard brick them selfs like that, must be a bug/glitch.
Seems like the store i bought it from has 2 years warranty. But in Norway we anyway have a 5 year "mini warranty" on electronics that is decided by law. So if the problem is not caused by mistreatment or water damage you should get it fixed for free within 5 years anyway.
Motherboard was faulty (as suspected)
Try to re-install a stock firmware (latest version) from sammobile with odin. This is the fast mode to revover your phone .
