[Q] SSH / SFTP Server: get always connection refused - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Good Morning,
since a few days I'm an owner of a Galaxy S4 I9505. The previous phone was a Galaxy S3. On the S3 I used the Rooted SSH SFTP Daemon * to get access from my PC (Linux) to my mobile phone via FTP or SSH. Worked great. So I tried the same thing with the S4.
The error message:
via ssh:
Code:
ssh: connect to host 192.168.109.51 port 22: Connection refused
via ftp (Filezilla sftp):
Code:
Status: Connecting with 192.168.109.51...
Answer: fzSftp started
Command: open "[email protected]" 22
Error: Connection refused
Settings on the ssh daemon
Login ID: root (=default)
Port: 22 (=default)
Other things I haven't set or changed.
System
Model: GT I9505
Android Version: 4.3
Kernel Version: 3.4.0-2082040, [email protected]#1
Buildnumber: JSS15J.I9505XXUEMKE
SE for Android Status: Enforcing SEPF_GT-I9505_4.3_0018
Secure boot status: Type: Samsung
Knox
When I tried the SSH Daemon first, I got the annoying security message from Knox. Therefore I thought first, Knox could be the problem. So I deinstalled that stuff via Titanium Backup. More in detail, I deinstalled:
com.sec.enterprise.knox.attestation
com.sec.knox.eventsmanager
KNOX 1.0
KNOX 3.0
Knox Notification Manager 1.0
Knox Store
The annoying security message vanished, but the device isn't accessible through ftp or ssh yet.
Additional information
The S4 is rooted, Knox warranty status is set to 0x1. Busybox 1.22.0 is installed. SuperSU v1.89 is also installed and displays ssh/sftp Service in the app list with granted SU access.
When I start or shut down the ssh/sftp server, it prints the text: 'First time' complete. I can't remember that message on the S3. What does it mean?
Approaches to solve
The get sure, it's not a networking problem, I installed also AnyFTP and JuiceSSH on the phone and tried to access the ssh/sftp server via 127.0.0.1 directly from the phone apps. I get the same error messages.
On the other hand I can connect from the S4 to the ftp and ssh server on my desktop PC without any problems.
Also I changed the port on the sftp/ssh server to 2222 without any success.
Conclusion and question:
I suggest 2 possibilities:
Some kind of Non-Knox security feature is blocking the outgoing network service on the S4, so that the ssh/sftp service will be blocked on the network layer.
The ssh/sftp server app isn't working properly on the S4.
What other chances do I have to get this app working?
*) Can't post any external links, because it's my first post here. The id of the used app is web.oss.sshsftpDaemon.

Tried the non-root ftp-server of ESFile explorer - works.
alogcat doesn't provide me any information about blocking any content.
Tried a different ssh-server: com.icecoldapps.sshserver -> works

tried 2 servers no one works
"Connection closed by server with exitcode 1 Error: Could not connect to server"
authentication seems ok , because if change pass then I'm betting the usual deny
any one solved the problem?

any news?
wifi file explorer works, but I would prefer ssh/sftp

SSL Error 0x80072f0d

I installed our company root CA on my windows mobile device. It said it was installed successfully. I set the username and password and domain. I selected SSL encryption. Set the server to the required IP address. I tried to sync my email and I get the following error:
"Result:
The security certificate on the server is not valid. Contact you Exchange Server administrator or ISP to install a valid certificate on the server" This is also referred to as support code "0x80072F0D"
I looked at the installed cert on my device and have the following details:
CERTIFICATE DETAILS (ROOT)
Issued to: **SNIP** (THIS IS AN IP ADDRESS)
Issued by: ** SNIP **
Valid from: 5/26/06 to 5/25/08
Intended Purpose(s): Server Authentication
Do you know what I am doing wrong?
Thank you very much in advance.
Any help
This problem is killing me! Is it possible that Softbank is blocking port 443? I seem to have read that somewhere last year. I have had this phone for almost 7 months and I still haven't got it to do what I purchased it for. aaah the ranting.. that felt good

Android Debug Mode/USB Tethering on XV6800

hey everyone. long time forum lurker, few time poster :/
i have the XV6800 Titan, unlocked and running DCD 4.1.2 currently with Cricket services working in full. From the MicroSD i am running the recent Android release through the Haret.exe software
Cricket WAP requires a proxy server configured for Android to use WAP. i'd like to access the phone from Linux/Windows through telnet or USB in order to configure the sqlite3 proxy and enable WAP on my phone, however the device only charges and does not appear to be mountable or as a serial device in either Gentoo Linux or Windows XP
has anyone had luck with accessing Android from USB? does anyone have a local (from the phone) method of configuring the WAP proxy? perhaps a simple command line option i can run from the phone?
thank you everyone, in advance
FYI the Cricket WAP network i am shooting for is 172.28.178.197 (Portland, OR area) on port 8080 requiring a login ('[email protected]', password 'cricket')
i have tried the this from the terminal (Message key on top left of Titan) only to receive a 'Web page not available' error
Cricket network does receive an IP in Togga, but seems not to hit the proxy
ok, tethering is a no go apparently. that should be fine since there is a Terminal Emulator in Android under Development Tools. i can su to root and run sqlite3 from there without the need to use the Android SDK (adb shell)... or so i believe
i am not trying to configure the Cricket proxy server via sqlite3 as explained here
still no luck so far (i get 'SQL error: not an error' ), but i FEEL like i am getting closer!

[21 Feb 2011] [Q] Android Exchange Accnt Setup Error

I've read and searched and Googled but I can't find an answer
I recently flashed my first Android NAND ROM: "CMYLXGOroms.Stock.Desire.HD.v1.1.4.1n.NAND.RMNET.NO-SQUASH-RAFPIGNA.1.7OC_CWM.zip".
Everything went smoothly and it all looks good except I cannot complete the Exchange ActiveSync account.
DETAILS:
1. I'm hosting my own Exchange server -2003
2. My SSL cert is self-generated from my own MS Cert Authority
3. I can view my OWA account via the native web browser w/o issue
4. My settings "appear" to be fine as I can reach the very end of the setup wizard. (If I change any of the ActiveSync account settings to an invalid option - say add an extra character to the server address - I receive an error when I click on "Next")
ISSUE:
1. On the last step of the setup wizard, when I click on "Finish setup" I receive the error:
"Failed to created the account. Please try again later."
QUESTIONS/THOUGHTS:
1. How to you import a SSL Cert in Android?
2. I've read about "Accept All SSL Certificates" dialog box you can check but I don't see one during the setup wizard - only the "This server requires an encrypted SSL connection". Is this a legacy setting or something that is hidden by HTC's SenseHD or? Is there anyway to access this option?
3. I've tried both checking and un-checking the "This server requires an encrypted SSL connection" - both give me the same failed result.
OTHER TROUBLESHOOTING:
1. I know this works as I've been successfully using Activesync with WinMo 6.1 & 6.5 on my wife's TouchPro2 and this works fine w/ the stock WinMo 6.5. So it's not a bad config on the back-end.
2. I tried installing Touchdown to see if that would work and I cannot get that to work either.
I'm getting really frustrated - any help would be GREATLY appreciated!
thnx
UPDATE:
I spent all day:
1. Creating a new DNS A record to point directly to my OWA server
2. Upgrading my SSL cert to an offical third-part cert from startssl.com (great service for free BTW)
3. Figuring out how to export/import/modify that cert to be installed on Android
I now have a nice DNS record that points to my OWA server (vs. the old DynDNS pointer) and I appreciate the SSL cert for free find, but I'm still ready to loose it over the lack of ActiveSync support.
Anybody have any idea if this is potentially a ROM issue and I should try another? Or is this a Froyo issue and I should try Gingerbread?
TIA

[Q] OpenVPN Tap fails on route add -net?

I'm trying to setup OpenVPN with TAP (I know there are other app that set up TUN for you, that's not what I'm trying to do) on andriod, everything seems to be working correctly except the last step. When open vpn tries to add route it fails with error status: 1.
I followed the steps here to install Busybox/OpenVPN Installer/OpenVPN Settings
http://strongvpn.com/setup_android_open.shtml
My VPN seems to connect fine but it fails on
/system/xbin/route add -net 0.0.0.0 netmask 128.0.0.0 gw 10.1.1.2
I've double checked that /system/xbin/route can be executed, though when I'm trying to run the same command in terminal it gives me
siocaddrt operation not permitted
Any thoughts?
I guess no one uses OpenVPN with TAP eh?...

[Q] CM12 Network Issues, ES-FileExplorer FTP Server Broken

Hello,
a couple of days ago i updated my Galaxy S5 from rooted stock Kitkat (Touchwiz) to Cyanogenmod 12 (nightly 26.01. at the moment, recovery is TWRP).
I know CyanogenMod from using it on my Galaxy S2 already.
unfortunately i keep having some network problems..
At first the phone didn't connect to my Wifi. The Router assigns a fixed ip to the phone's MAC-address. I was able to fix that by configuring the Wifi-conection on the phone to the same IP instead of using DHCP.
Wifi works fine now.
Second: My ES-file-explorer FTP-Server isn't working. It starts well on the phone, but i can't access the IP ftp://192.168.178.xx like i was used to from my windows pc. Also if i ping the ftp://ip-address in the command promt i get a "couldn't find host"-error..
-------------------------------------
Third Problem Fixed!! (Had to re-enable "Allow programs on other systems to control XBMC")
Third: My Yatse XBMC / Kodi remote won't find the Host. it is active in the same network and i can controll it with my girlfriend's stock Galaxy S5, but i can't add the host to my Yatse.. Even if i enter IP and Webserver-Port directly the JSON-RPC check fails..
Any advice?
Thank you very much for your Help!!
