Between the two the biggest consideration for me would be the size. I lusted after the Z when it first came out, but I was hesitant due to the price. But really I did not want a tablet that large. If I did then the more likely choice for me would have been the Note 10.1 2014. When the G Pad was announced it was THE perfect form factor for me - the biggest screen possible (for my eyes) in a form factor which can still fit in a jacket or even trouser (cargo pants) pocket. The G Pad is a decent enough machine, although not without faults, but there is also nothing quite like it to met my needs. I've had mine for about a month. It does everything I need it to. BTW, as I also have Galaxy Note phablet something like the Nexus 7 would simply not be a big enough leap in screen size, but 10" is too much for my pockets.
There is a brand new and quite detailed/technical review of the G Pad here....

I've only skimmed the article, but the bits I read seem quite accurate and honest.

I have quite enjoyed the size of my G Pad. I had an original Galaxy Tab 10.1, and then tried out a Nexus 7 (2013) for a while. Size and handling, I like the G Pad the best, it is not too small to remotely control my desktop and not too big to hold for a few hours while reading a book. On technical issues the field skews some, as the Nexus kicks butt in screen clarity and brightness. I couldn't really tell a difference in processing speed between my Nexus 7 and G Pad. I have the GPE verision which is nice because it has 4.4, however it is missing some features like the IR blaster.
I'm not sure how the Xperia stacks up to the others, but I don't think I will ever own a 10in tablet again, I'll stick to 8in and a laptop.

I love the size of G pad , really i cant go back to 7 '' and 10 '' for my daily usage.
Very portable with very nice big screen , all the money !

G Pad - the "Goldilocks" of tablets. Not too big; not too small; just right. :victory:

AVOID the Xperia Tablet Z!!
I bought it one soon after it came out thinking I had finally found the perfect 10" tablet...
Yeah, it was extremely light (the lightest at the time), had a nice rubberized/soft touch back (HATE metal cases), an FHD display, 2GB RAM and it was pretty fast... BUT it has a F-ing STUPID plastic film screen-protector (the same kind people used to put on the screen before there was good scratch resistant glass) which is part of the design and makes the display hard to swipe onto (it's not as "slick" as glass), very scratch-prone, it is very reflective and the worst part is that if you remove it the glass has not an oleophobic treatment so it will get smudged very easily and is hard to clean. UNBELIEVABLE...
And NONE of the reviews of the so-called "tech-media" or the YouTube "tech" channels mentioned it!!
I took it back for a refund after a couple of days and resumed my quest for a good 10" tablet for me (a quest which is still ongoing as I haven't found one yet and am using the G Pad which, while very good, is not a 10" tablet which is the size I would really want).

For me, the perfect size for a tablet is probably 8.9", but with the same narrow bezel as the G Pad 8.3. My Nook HD+ looks like a monster next to the G Pad, but it's mostly due to the enormous bezel rather than the screen. Until such a device appears, though, the G Pad is a great option!

I was considering the Kindle HDX 8.9
Felt it in store it is light brilliant screen and superb battery life.
If there was a way to hack it to run stock android I would sell my GPad for it. It is a bit larger but still less than a pound and much brighter higher res screen with close to double the battery life.

Yup, I totally agree, though only if there was an AOSP-based ROM that was absolutely rock solid. One of the reasons I went with the GPE over the LGE with something like CM11 is that in the past I've found custom ROMs to be less stable than I want out of a daily driver even well into their maturity cycle. I know that may not reflect others' experiences, but it is the experience I've had across a number of devices (Nook Color, HP Touchpad, Nook HD+).

Tablet Polls says that people want 10" tablets

I have seen many tablet polls asking about the right size of the tablet that the people want.
The results are that the 10" tablet is the favorite size for most people, but I wonder.....
Do that people have tasted both the 7" and the 10" tablet before making a choice?
I have brought this subject because I'm thinking that the manufacturers think that what the people want is 10" , when actually, they could have better with a 7" or 8" tablet.
come to think about it, reading on a 10" display is not cool, besides you need to hold it with two hands because of the weight.
The gaming experience is much better on a 7" tablet.
The GPS Navigator is much much better on a 7".
We cannot deny that browsing webpages on 10" is much better, but I'm not only browsing on my tablet.
I Suggest to read this article, it's called "The iPad likes to stay at home" Guess why?
http://www.computerweekly.com/blogs/inspect-a-gadget/2010/10/the-ipad-likes-to-stay-at-home.html
what do you think??
"Do that people have tasted both the 7" and the 10" tablet before making a choice?"
I bought an iPad after seeing them used prominently at a recent conference. Less than 24 hours later, I returned it.
However, I looked at the Galaxy Tab and fell in love. Can't imagine the 10" screen over the 7". For me, it's just a much more ergonomic choice. But some people like Chevy's; others like Fords. Or Honda's and Toyota's if you prefer.
Same here. The Tab is way cool!! It is taking a little bit to get used to a 7" screen phone tho...... LOL Although today I took my Streak 5 with me instead and really missed the Tab. Now if I could only find a good horizontal case with belt loops for the Tab, life would be very good.....
Later
My wife bought an iPad 4 months ago and has been using it daily since she bought it. I bought a T-mobile Galaxy Tab 3 weeks ago and have unlocked it, flashed several different roms and modems and installed a sim card from one of T-mobile's competitors.
The iPad is a nice piece of hardware in its own right, but the Galaxy Tab is a far more mobile device than the iPad and has voice capabilities.
My wife now wants the same setup that I have with the Tab because it fits into her purse (not the iPad) and it has the voice capabilities.
I like both devices, but I prefer the Tab over the iPad for the simple reason that it has much better mobility.
As far as I'm concerned 7 inches is just about perfect for a tablet/phone device and until something much better comes along...I'm staying with the Galaxy Tab.
I don't use my galaxy for phone capabilities because my sprint is not activated, I use it adhoc-ed with my X10 for wifi-only.
After seeing some other tablets, the Acer Iconia A100 is a 7" with honeycomb and tegra 2, looks like what I'm looking for.
Although I might choose the LG Optimus pad in favor of their 8.9" , but I still need to decide if I'm really going to keep my tablet on my home for leisure time because of its size
The Tab fits in my pocket, a 10" wouldn't
there is no competition
I went to best buy today and was playing with the ipad, and it's way too big. I was browsing the internet and found it difficult to reach the inner letters of the keyboard, like g and h in both portrait and landscape mode. It is nice hardware for sure, but I think the 7" is a lot better for mobility and practicality.

Thing is, the Acer Iconia looks plain ugly, both in form factor and in finishing
The screen res is not up to par with the tab too
I chose the Tab due to its size and it is easier to handle and use compared to the 10 inch tablets.
Most people that I know tend to prefer 7 inch tablets after handling it, though some are still swayed by the cool factor of the ipad.
It would be interesting too see what happens if we all had 4", 7", 10" and 12" galaxy tabs laying around at home. Which would you take with you when you go shopping, to the gym, to work or to the toilet?

I have a Desire HD (so, 4.3") and a Tab. I tend to take both whenever I go out, with a few exceptions (like the pub!), and I find that I tend to just use the Desire HD as a phone, and the Tab for everything else.
Any larger than 7", and it would likely stay at home as it wouldn't fit in jacket pocket.
I may end up getting a 10" tablet at some point, but if I do it will have a semi-permanent home on a coffee table, and would be WiFi only.
Regards,
Dave
My tab goes everywhere, my girlfriends ipad lives in the draw.
10inch tablets are for people who think bigger is better and have no clue.
When iPad was announced I was really into it. It looked great, had a big screen and as an iPhone owner, I had a good experience with Apple. That all went away the first time I saw it in person and spent some time using it.
The experience was far from perfect. That thing was big. I hated the fact that the OS was same as in iPhone. My first reaction was "wtf, so much wasted space around those icons". Soon I realized that the typing was very awkward, the finger travel distances were driving me crazy and my interest in iPad was simply gone in those 30 minutes I spent with it.
Then I got the Galaxy Tab and well... The rest is history
Personally, I think that poll simply shows that people do think that bigger is better - it was exactly how I felt, before actually using a 10" product.
I personally prefer 7 inches for mobility. I wish they would make them a little wider though.. maybe 1024x800?.. I would really like a 7 inch tablet that is a little wider than the current ones available (would probably end up being 8 inches because of extra width)

They'd need to get rid of the bezel in order to make the screen wider, as I personally think the width of the Tab is about as large as your can comfortably fit in a pocket.

Dave
Yeah, I agree, but bezel seems to be necesarry to be able to hold the device with the thumb on the top. Personally, I feel it would be great to have edge-to-edge screen that would automagically black out the left-right edges depending on the orientation, so you would be able to hold it without activating anything.
Of course, the bezels could be disabled when watching videos, or surfing the net with 2 hands etc.

I agree. I have the iPad and love it, but it doesn't fit in my "regular" purses and I tend to carry medium to large purses. I really want a device that can go with me anywhere. Plus, as an Evo user I am used to being able to customize my devices and install roms and am not able to do so on the iPad.
"Which would you take with you when you go shopping, to the gym, to work or to the toilet?"
I ripped my P90X DVD's and put them on the TAB for working out at the gym. Previously, I used a portable DVD player but I never managed to keep the darn thing charged so it was a mess, what with power cords, remote, DVD's and of course the player itself.
one extra point for the 7" screen is the extra hand that you have.
msg for iPad troll:
yeah, you may have an iPad, but I have an extra hand that do more stuffs than your big tablet alone
Today I saw a 8.9" netbook, and that size caught my sight on it, I think I'm gonna score some LG Optimus 3D tablet with 8.9" when it hits the market.
I have:
Nexus one (3.7 inch): Great size for a phone, 4 inchs would be my limit for a phone, but I don't find 3.7 inchs on a phone limiting.
Galaxy tab (7inch): I LOVE this size of this thing, I can slip it into any bag I have, I have a small messenger bag and from the looks, its hard to tell a tab would fit in it (it does with plenty of space to spare!). Makes me less of a target to thieves too.
I was planning on a 10 inch tablet initially too, but after looking at my 12.1 inch laptop, it didn't seem much more portable (ok, its lighter and thinner). Then again, if a manufacturer manages to have a large screen in small physical estate (very thin bezel), that might be a good thing.
Honestly, I think the Tab hits the sweet spot in portability and usability. If they manage to make the bezel thinner and keep the same size, its pretty much the size of those small books
Toshiba M750 (12.1 inch): It's ok for a laptop, not too heavy, not light (at all), but as a tablet, it's pretty heavy and thick.
Only thing I like about it now is the digitizer.

Will you be returning anything to get the Tab10,1 (us model)

Do you have a tablet that you are on the fence about and thinking of returning it for the new Galaxy Tab 10.1 (US model)
Maybe your tablet has more ports or a keyboard dock or Google's baby(xoom) for updates.
I'd rather have a transformer but I think I'll stick with my galaxy tab anyway
I may return my Xoom for one of these. Depends on the reviews when they're released.

I took my Blackberry Playbook back to BestBuy today. I was actual really impressed with the Playbook. However, I feel Android is going to be the future of Tabs, and that the 8.9 would be a better every day use, portable form factor.
I managed to procure a Google IO 10.1 which will be here Monday. Really looking forward to these tablets!
Returning my Xoom for it

My xoom.. Motorola's handling of software upgrades (canada gets sd card functionality, but nothng for the us) is a joke, the screen is marginal and it is uncomfortable to hold on long flights.
Ultimately, my xoom bricked itself and never turned back on.. Thank goodness for costco's return policy.
My G-slate already went back. Eventhough I got it for $430 with no contract...
I might try the acer w500, people are saying it handles 1080p pretty well, this doesnt, also lack of expandable memory is a killer, although 3g is the only reason ill keep it for a while at least.
A nook color I'd prefer a slate that was meant to run honeycomb.
I'm not really returning it, just giving it to my friend.
I returned my Transformer. It was kinda tough, because I really will miss the microSD, micro USB, and mini HDMI ports on the tablet, plus the ability to use the most sweet keyboard dock ever.
I'm sacrificing a lot for the Galaxy Tab 10.1. But the Transformer did seem to have a lot of small annoyances too. Back was slippery. Glass was very thin. Tablet creaked a bit. Bezel was ugly. Felt a little cheap.
I'm going with the Galaxy Tab because it's lighter, something I value a lot in a 10 inch tablet, even small weight differences become noticeable over time.
The Galaxy Tab just looks a lot better. I don't mind admitting I care about the appearance of my tablet. Galaxy Tab looks sleek and elegant. Transformer looked quite ugly in my eyes with it's sharp angles and extra wide aluminum bezel.
Hoping the glass on the Galaxy Tab is thicker. I could push on the Transformer glass and easily see it bending like it was some cheap resistive display. Nothing like my iPad that doesn't bend at all.
I did the same thing, now I hope the GT10.1 will not disappoint me.

I'm basing that off of owners who have posted in forums, not reviews. Moreover, I'm not really aware of any tablet review that's ever gone into how slippery the back of the tablet was.

Samsung says they put an easy grip material on the back to keep the tablet from slipping.
Though looking at the back of the Google IO tablets, they look different and may not have the easy grip material, and instead got the Android tiles. So maybe the final retail Galaxy Tab will be better.
I returned an a500 yesterday to wait for this tablet to come out. Don't fail me now samsung
Returned my transformer. Many annoying problems that were mostly solved by rebooting, but once the touch screen died I just returned it to newegg.
Also returned the tf after my screen stopped responding to touch. Will be picking up the tab come June 8th
I'm really surprised with myself and I'm sure I've been shunned away from the A500 forums, but I too returned my A500 for the 10.1.
I've been a huge fan of Samsung products and I didn't want to change now. I enjoyed my A500, but I feel like the online community and manufacture support will be better with this.
I hate waiting until the 8th of June for it, but I'm willing to do it for a sleeker, thinner, lighter model. I'm a professional firefighter and I hated taking my 17" laptop to work with me for 24 hours. I was originally going to purchase the Xoom, but the price made it not worth it for me. The A500 was perfect, but again, I feel like I will gain so much more here. The HDMI, USB, and MicroSD did absolutely nothing for me. I was surprised how little I used it. I never even used the MicroSD slot.
Anyways, like everyone else on here, I'm hoping that in the end this will be a good decision.

Galaxy tab 10.1 Vs. Transformer?????

I'm looking into purchasing one or the other, and am stuck in between, can anyone please shed some light onto this?
I like the galaxy tab for a few reasons, one its samsung and i tend to trust their build quality over asus, two its super thin and much smaller than the transformer, and three the speakers are better, but the main thing that is killing it for me is the lack of ports, only having a single proprietary port bugs me, and feels like i'm being forced into buying additional things that should have been included in the first place
i like the transformer because of the ports and sd card expansion, and the keyboard with the battery and extra usb/sd ports.
i'm not sure which to choose, please help!
totally your preference. how much are you really going to use your hdmi and sd card? if you use it a lot, then go transformer. if you are going to get a keyboard, they both have sd card slots.
however, if thin tablets are of bigger importance, go samsung.
I think build quality is now same. asus new batches seem to be better than the rushed out ones.

Don't know if anyone can really help you decide, because it sounds like you already know the pros and cons of both. But I feel the same way. I really like both tablets, both have some great qualities, but both have some pretty big weaknesses too.
Going to just copy/paste what I just wrote on the Transformer board...
Transformer
+ $100 cheaper
+ micro SD
+ mini HDMI
+ netbook style keydock
Galaxy Tab 10.1
+ lighter and rounded edges (more comfortable)
+ better speakers
+ PLS display
+ LED flash
+ just better looking
Almost afraid to say it, because I detest custom UI, but I almost want to give the Galaxy Tab 10.1 a + for TouchWiz UX. The demo of it actually has some very nice looking features.
Because of the lack of micro SD I almost certainly will need to spend $200 more for a 32GB Galaxy Tab 10.1, versus the 16GB Transformer I'm using now with my 16GB micro SD card. So the price difference is greater (I am sure I need more than 16GB for a tablet).
....I own a Transformer now, it's my second one, and it has a screen defect. So I've run into some build quality issues with the Transformers. But I also have build quality fears for the Galaxy Tab 10.1 too. I've seen a lot of glass separation from the bezel in corners in a lot of video reviews. It looks a bit too common. Almost none of those video reviews call attention to it, but after seeing some complaints about it on this board and a article on Android Community, I've been looking carefully at those corners and now seem to notice it all the time.
Both are great tablets. I going to need to return my Transformer in about 5 days. So I still have a bit more time to mull it over.
+1 to what Ravynmagi said.
I actually returned my Transformer a couple weeks ago. For it's price point, it definitely is awesome, but I just didn't like the fact that I could literally flex and twist it and it would affect the light bleeding. I would rather pay the extra money to have something solid and according to a lot of video reviews, people are saying that even though it's plastic it feels just as solid as the iPad2... and I consider my iPad2 very solid.
I returned my TF today. Terrible screen separation under the bezel. A lot of FCs. Considerably heavier than the Tab. The extra 100 that i spent thus far seems well worth it.
The tab it's a better pure tablet. The transformer doesn't need a adapter for hdmi out.

Ok I know I’m biased but it's lighter, sleeker, thinner, PLS screen and great build quality. In fact it's the Rolls-Royce of Honeycomb tablets. Ah yes and I can hold it in one hand.

Thanks for the video. I am not liking the over saturated screen of the 10.1 over the TF. Its like the 10.1 is in vivid mode which I hate on all display. I guess I have to see it in person. Its hard to compare the two when the TF is in 3.1 and Samsung is still running 3.0.

I'm also intrigued by #GalaxyTab101 PLS screen (Samsung improved IPS). This thing could be or become pro photographer's dream calibrated.

I think I'm ready to now forgive the lack of micro SD and switch to a Galaxy Tab 10.1. Appears the PLS display turned out better than I thought it would. I was expecting a barely noticeable marginal difference with viewing angles and brightness, but apparently the colors on this look really great from reports.
The other big thing though is the speakers. Transformer has really weak flat sounding speakers and the balance is way off, the left side is barely hearable on my last two Transformers and seems like a very common occurance.
I'm disappointed by no micro SD. But the better PLS display and better audio quality, along with the lighter more comfortable feel, has me thinking it's probably worth the extra $200 ($400 16GB TF + 16GB micro SD I already own vs $600 32GB GT10.1) for me.

Damnit man.. now I'm going to return my TF too. I three defects and three annoyances.
- Hair under the screen.. looks like an eye lash
- Moderate light bleed.. increases when I hold it due to flex
- Bezel began creaking and moving
- The corners are uncomfortable
- It is fatiguing to hold it with one hand
- Lack of accessories (Yes I know this seems odd) but really there isn't much besides a few cases and the dock
- Speakers are definitely too quiet
I will go with the 16GB version as I have never really found myself needing anything more than that. I always say I'm going to watch movies on my mobile devices, but never get around to doing it. Also, I own a solid remote desktop that works well with the TF, so it should work with the 10.1.
I'll tell you what though, I always seem to do this lol. I love the TF, but damn that 10.1 looks too nice.
Is the back metal or plastic?
EDIT: damn, this is going to end up costing me a lot of extra money.

Yeah, I don't like holding the Transformer in portrait. The 90 degree corners aren't comfortable. I think tablet comfort was sacrificed to make it look cooler as a netbook with it's keyboard.
And I've been noticing the lack of accessories too. Really almost nothing from third parties. I suspect Samsung will probably have a lot more third party accessories coming.
I was really hoping someone would make a gel skin case for the Transformer so it would be more comfortable to hold. But I keep looking and looking and see nothing.
The back is a very glossy plastic on the Galaxy Tab 10.1. Some have called it slippery. This worries me a tiny bit. Samsung advertised an Easy Grip material on the back. I think it looks a lot better than the Transformer, but worried it might slip when palming it with one hand.

Yeah, my girlfriend is upset that I'm going to exchange. She says the back of the TF is perfect for grip.
Also, for people who purchased on Amazon, make sure you choose defective when returning. This shouldn't be an issue as nearly all TFs have light bleed.
I chose to put that I no longer wanted it, and they tried to add a 20% restocking fee. I called up and got that removed by telling them I hit the wrong button.
The Transformer & Iconia were somewhat similar. I like the many ports on the Acer, but it was rather heavy for one handed use. Trying to type in portrait was a pain because of the device weight. If the Galaxy had those ports, then it would not be as thin, & would weigh more. I returned the Acer & pre-ordered the Galaxy. I plan on getting the USB adapter and using it when needed, which will be every once in a while.

On portability and screen size

I love my Note, and I think its screen is the best among all the phones currently in the market. It also has the highest portability among all the tablets. But I can't keep thinking that a true tablet should have at least a 7'' screen. So I think why don't the manufacturers create a 4'' device with a 7'' screen? It's not hard, but I'm surprised why no company has ever thought of that....
Any comments?

How can you have a 4" device with a 7" screen?
If you just mean a phone with a 7" screen, it's already been done - the original Galaxy Tab could be used as a phone and it had a 7" screen.

I never understood the 'the note is too small to be a tablet', or why people pick an arbitrary number like 7 inches. Is the world just brainwashed?
If someone made a 6.8 inch tablet, that's not a 'true tablet'?

It does not have a 7'' screen, it's two screens of about 5'', separated by an annoying bezel.

No need to be exactly 7'', above 6.5'' inch is a good enough screen... BUT again, it should be put on a 4'' size device body.

Please explain *exactly* how you would put a 7" screen on a 4" "body" (as you put it it!).
The size of the screen dictates the size of the casing/enclosure!

i think what the op wants is a flip phone, which when opened, looks like the note. I.e. a two led screened device, but no bezel between them so it appears like one big screen.
i think it would be pretty awesome, though not sure if it is possible.

I have an idea and the design, not sure this is the place to talk about it...but I assure you it's entirely possible and feasible with current tech.

Yes it's possible and, without opening it, it's just your normal 4-5'' phone.

So what's the point of even raising the topic on these forums if its not the place to talk about it?
Whilst there are flexible screens these days, they are not "foldable" as such (i.e. they couldn't fold flat), so you'd either have to have 2 screens like the Sony or the tablet would have to be much thicker so cope with the allowed curvature of the screen when it was "closed", which in turn would probably mean an elaborate hinge mechanism too.
Also, since you've split the device into two "halves", it's likely you'd need either a thicker battery for one half, or two slimmer batteries with one in each half. Either way, this device is going to end up thick and as such probably pretty much unpocketable.
You may well have some good ideas about how to resolve these issues, but since "this isn't the place" to discuss them, I've no idea!

Dave

Thanks for your reply.
My "idea" really is nothing much to talk about, as it's just something that came to my mind during my day dreaming...
Regarding the thickness issue, I believe single battery on one side is enough, so basically can be made to be around 10mm.
I'm yet to discover the 'worth'
usage of any tablet...i mean it cant replace your laptop whatsoever! Perhaps it's just a show off...
For everything a tablet does, has a better doer! This is where exactly the beast enters...Galaxy Note. The idea behind this gadget is to give you enormous power & portability(precisely) on the go without any worry of carrying it.
Hope this answers

This is exactly what people said about the Note, yet only a small percentage of Note owners actually have this complaint.
I agree with the previous poster, I'd love to have a 6" phone/tablet myself...
I feel the Note's current size is at about the limit for pocketability. If they can squeeze more screen at the expense of the bezel, fine... but the size is what makes this device unique. Make it too big, lose the pocketability, and you might as well go larger.
I have owned a full size tablet. It's great for relaxing on the couch.
But... my Note does that (perhaps not as spaciously) but also does so much more since it can go with me everywhere. For me; the Note size is why I own it.
I used my 7" Huawei Ideos tablet as a phone for a while. While I really liked the big screen and ability to surf w/o straining my eyes while on the go, portability was definitely an issue. You can fit the Note no problem in a big pocket, but a 7" tablet is just a bit too impractical to carry around. It's just like carrying a small purse with you.
Hey guys just been kinda creeping around this forum as the note will likely be my next phone. This thing is awesome for me. Ive been longing for the size and video quality of a tablet but wanted it to be as portable as my X2. August 2011 really needs to come faster...

Sony Vaio Duo 11

How does the Duo 11 compare with the rest of the current Windows 8 tablets/ultrabooks?
From all the reviews that I have read, it seems to be a very capable machine with a lot more ports and features than anything else available in the market.
Any one has any experience with it ?

Surprisingly there is not a whole lot of talk about Duo 11 anywhere, even though it a full featured tablet/ultrabook.

Early reviews wrote it off for cramped keyboard and no trackpad. They basically disregarded the form factor entirely for this model. All reviews said it's an awesome machine, with bad battery life, and heavy, difficult to type. Some dinged it for always having the screen exposed. Nice looking machine though, I looked very closely at that one.
I ended up ordering one. Lets see how it turns out.

I have one. Battery life is only about 3 hours unless you get the additional sheet battery which doubles it.
I like it a lot. I use it as a desktop most of the time (with 4 monitors and wireless keyboard and mouse) and as a laptop or tablet occasionally. As a tablet it is heavy but powerful. The keyboard is cramped but fine for on the go use.
The form factor is fantastic on planes.
They have apparently brought out a new version in Japan with better battery life, bigger hard drive and faster processors.

I received my Duo 11 on Friday and I like it a lot so far. It is the latest version with 1.8 Ghz i5. I have not tested the battery yet but it does seem a lot less than my Acer W700 (which easily lasts around 6-7 hours). I plan on picking up the sheet battery and case but it seems like both items are out of stock everywhere, specially the case.
In my little use, I have found that I have absolutely no use of the pen and having no place to put it in the tablet makes it even worse. I already lost it couple of times so I just ended up putting it back in the box. Hopefully, once I get the case or sheet battery, I will take it out.
Has anyone found any good case of the tablet (other than the Sony one) ? On another forum, people mentioned that we should be able to use Macbook Air 13" cases but I have not test that.
The sheet battery has a slot for the pen. The Sony case doesn't seem to have space for the power supply nor a shoulder strap so I returned it without opening it. I ended up with a targus 13" case that is OK without being flash.
Be wary if planning to do any photo editing etc the pen drivers are not compatible with apos like Photoshop etc

This one (I think)
You could probably go a bit smaller so long as you have space for the power supply.
Currently using mine at the moment while writing this post. I have small hands and so the keyboard does not feel very cramped at all to write on. Another thing I would like to mention is that this machine is very capable of running almost everything I've thrown at it, from editing software to video games. It probably wont run crysis 3 or anything, but handles Skyrim fine at 30fps on low settings. My girlfriend owns the Microsoft surface pro and side by side the Sony duo 11 is slightly thicker and of course a bit larger (11.6 vs 10.6) but not to where it's a monster compared to the surface. The duo does have a slightly thicker bezel which makes the length a bit longer but this gives my hands ease of use without the fear of accidently touching the screen while handling it in different positions. Another huge plus is that the windows key is an ACUTAL button unlike other tablet/pc devices so your hands don't accidently graze the bezel and get sent to the start screen (a problem my girlfriends surface has). In terms of weight between the two devices is pretty small and not noticeable at all. Although the surface is about 1.8gs and the duo is 2.8gs the weight distribution is much better on the duo and causing it to feel almost lighter then the surface.
So if your trying to decide what to get, the question you first must ask yourself is what do you want more; portability, or functionality? The surface gives you the same specs but in a smaller package(plus the totally awesome touch/type covers) vs the Sony duo which offers a larger screen estate and more ports (2x usb 3.0, vga, hdmi out, SD/pro duo slot, Ethernet port) Performance they are very similar in processing power and battery life, however the Sony duo does offer a sheet battery option that will double the life of your device, at the cost of weight, and portability. For all you graphic artist out there who are wondering about the pens that are included in both devices, the surface pro uses Wacom tablet pen vs the Sony's N-Trig pen. There is much debate about which is better but overall they have their pros and cons. Wacom tablets have more pressure sensitivity, but the screen tracking on the surface is horrid (gets especially worse near the edges), while the N-Trigs have more accuracy but lacks pressure sensitivity. Neither has wintab drivers for pressure sensitivity on adobe software, and both promises further support but that has yet to be seen.
Ps. Did I mention the Sony has a gorgeous backlit keyboard
I bought a I7 Duo, the latest version Sony came out with. The battery life is better, and I like the laptop. Very powerful, and I have big hands. The keyboard is fine to me. As for the mouse, I bought a bluetooth fold mouse for that. Worked fine. I have a 256 drive, and a 1tb passport. Works well. Hell I may even load WoW to see how it runs.
Just need to get use to windows 8.

You did not mention the Sony keyboard.
I've just bought Sony vaio duo 11 with Core i5 and 128G SSD and I have some comments.
First, although the keyboard is quite small, so sometimes i feel annoy but by the time i feel more comfortable.
Second, I have Galaxy Note 10.1 and i ensure that writing on Note 10.1 by Wacom stylus is more likely than Duo 11.
Furthermore, When surfing on the internet, Wifi suddenly disconnect...
Finally, with duo 11 screen, if I use a brown colour background, I can see the screen is waving like a low refresing rate on an old screen, although I set it to 60Hz. Does anyone try it? using a brown colour.
But i feel satisfied with it. I hope that in the future Sony will upgrade it
Just ordered a duo 11
I was browsing for a suitable sleeve, and found that Elecom make a Zeroshock that should be the perfect size - the model reference is ZSB-IBUB03 (then BK for black or WH for white). The only place I've been able to find one is ebay (coming from Japan), price in the £20 to £25 range, so I now have one on the way
got one of these today. Great machine but i need out how to enable the pen scrolling?
I got an i5 4gb ram 128ssd vaio duo last week. Absolutely love it. one question:
Which ram do I need to upgrade this beast!?
