Yes because it has backup system yo backup gapps, if you want to get rid of gapps, go to mounts and storage on cwm and do format system, and then flash cm11 or other rom

If I'm not mistaken, some devs do add some gapps into their roms. Not all of them mind you. Also when you do a factory reset via the recovery, it doesn't wipe the system partition. Most roms will wipe it when it (rom) is flashed, so gapps from previous roms wouldn't or shouldn't be there.

What do I have to do in order to flash franco's kernel coming from STOCK other than wiping cache and dalvik cache?? I already have franco running on stock do I just flash CM wipe both caches boot into CM go back into recovery and then flash Franco and wipe both caches again?? Any help is MUCH appreciated Sorry for the noob question I am still learning

Wipe data/factory reset,
Flash CM10,
Flash Franco.
Skip wiping caches altogether, no need to reboot in between flashing the ROM and the kernel.
If cm is already installed, you don't need to wipe anything if it's just the kernel. Just make sure you always have a recent nandroid

dont have to wipe anything, just flash it over.
note that when you flash a new nightly of cm, you will need to reflash the kernel.

When flashing to a new kernel, do I need to write my device or can I just flash from where I am? Currently I'm on matr1x kernel and I want to go to Franko's kernel. I was planning on wiping the dalvik cache but not factory reset. I'd rather not lose all my apps and settings if I can help it. Any ideas?

You don't need to factory reset when flashing kernels just wipe cache and dalvik and you'll be fine. Note it might take a little longer to boot because it will be building up cache since you just wiped it.
No need to wipe anything. No cache or dalvik needed either. You just flash and boot!
BUT! When you are using a custom kernel that uses custom ramdisk (ex. Franco), you need to flash the kernel from your ROM first. (I usually just backup only my boot image in TWRP so I can go back and forth between kernels) If you don't, the phone might not boot (will boot to bootloader, which in that case, you can fix the problem)
Also, make sure that you don't overclock too much and expect bugs from nightly releases (a lot of kernels are in nightly version right now, but Franco seems to reach milestone soon). You might not experience any bugs, but you never know.
you should be able to do that
if it is just a zip, you should be able to flash it right across in the recovery.
I just did that an hour ago, it kept everything except the kernel.

Quick questions:
I am on CyanogenMOD 10.1-20130617 Nightly, if I want to move to the latest stable release do I have to do a full wipe or can I just dirty flash? Also, what kind of data loss to expect from a dirty flash?

So I just finished up, and yes, I flashed ROM, a camera tweak and Bank's minimal GApps wiped Dalvik and cache then rebooted. Everything is fine here. :good:
I am sure this is a stupid question, but I've looked and not found a definitive answer so I'll try here.
I have a LG G2 (AT&T) which I have rooted/clockwork/CM11. I did most of it when I had a failed OTA send me into a bootloop. (I had rooted the stock and removed some bloat which it didn't care for). I love CM11 however, there are some issues with the M5 build that I think are solved in the nightlies.
My questions are as follows:
(1) If I start flashing nightlies am I going to loose everything on my phone?
(1a) If so? How do people handle nightly flashes and always having a phone that needs setup?
(1b) If not, how do I flash the CM rom? I assume through recovery like I did before.
(2) Is there an easier way to backup and restore my setup to my phone?
(2a) I have titanium backup, and I have backed up all system and apps. However, I am not sure if restoring that will mess things up after flashing.
So basically, I'm looking to find out how people use the nightly builds and still have a mostly functioning phone on a day to day basis?

Before flashing a nightly for the first time:
You will need to wipe cache, dalvik cache, and data (user data--not internal storage).
Updating to the newest nightly:
You will only need to wipe cache and dalvik before flashing the new nightly. You will not lose your setup or apps. CM has its own OTA app that will automatically install new nightlies via your custom recovery (CWM or TWRP)

Yeah once you're on nightlies, it's not a big deal. But after your FIRST flash of the nightlie, also be sure to flash the correct GApps package, which includes apps like the Google Play Store.
Hello! I installed Pure Nexus and that went great. That is until I left the house and had no data. Did some searching and all the recommendations say install the latest vendor image. So I did and flashed the mmb29q vendor image and I still don't have data. I'm not sure whats wrong and if someone could atleast point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it.
Has nothing much to do with data. It highly likely that your device storage is encrypted.
On a clean install like: wipe data, system, cache, delvik cache, flash rom, flash gapps, flash sprint data fix zip, reboot. Do a Google search its in Nexus 5 forums. It is the fix and it works but must be used on a clean install at end of flash. @mechlior
