[Q] CM10.1 Nightly to Stable - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Quick questions:
I am on CyanogenMOD 10.1-20130617 Nightly, if I want to move to the latest stable release do I have to do a full wipe or can I just dirty flash? Also, what kind of data loss to expect from a dirty flash?
Thanks!

You should be fine with a dirty flash...no problems here.

So I just finished up, and yes, I flashed ROM, a camera tweak and Bank's minimal GApps wiped Dalvik and cache then rebooted. Everything is fine here. :good:

[Q] Moving from stable to the latest nightly?

I'd think there probably isnt but is there some way for me to move from stable 7.0.3 to the latest nightly without losing all of my data?
Wipe cache and dalvik then flash over cm7 stable you'll be fine.

Of course there is... just install the nightly (and as mentioned, wipe the cache). No need to wipe data at all; just install away.
I literally just did that tonight actually. I went from stable to n110. I just flashed it and didn't wipe anything. Works great. I'm not sure if the su problem is solved in n110 so I flashed it too. You'll have to flash your overclock kernel if you're into that too. Good luck!
EDIT: Clearly there's something to this cache wiping so I'll wipe my now just to be safe.

I believe the su issues was only in n106. n110 is fine.
Ah ok, I think I will give this a shot right now. Thanks!
How does one wipe their cache, dalvik-cache - when operating on verygreen's SD installer/bootloader? There's no interface to "reboot to recovery" - when you do that, it just processes any "cm-" or "update-" zip file then powers off.
Any ideas?

Upgrading a CM10 build to a newer version of the same

I have a noob question.
When I opted for CM over stock and also when I switched from CM9 to CM10, I executed a full data wipe.
The question is, if I'm upgrading to the same ROM, but a later version, like CM10(20th July build) to CM10(22nd July build), do I still need to do a data wipe, or do I just install it over the previous one?
Thanks for reading.
do not wipe data, just wipe cache and dalvik and you are good to go.

[Q] Cant wipe Dalvik Cache

Hi,
I had MIUI GB stable running on my defy and wanted to check out the latest CM10 build, so here is what i did...
1. Booted into Recovery and Cleared Cache/Dalvik Cache.
2. Created a back up of my existing ROM
3. Clean wiped my phone and installed CM10
But since i didnt like the CM10 build much i decided to go back to MIUI GB...but got stuck...
I Wiped Data/Cache but then when i tried to wipe the Dalvik Cache it simply did nothing...
And since then i am not able to wipe the Dalvik Cache and so m pretty much stuck with CM10 now...
Please help me wipe the Dalvik Cache....
Thanks
I am having the same problem. Did you ever figure out out?

Stock being stock Google?
Wipe data/factory reset,
Flash CM10,
Flash Franco.
Skip wiping caches altogether, no need to reboot in between flashing the ROM and the kernel.
If cm is already installed, you don't need to wipe anything if it's just the kernel. Just make sure you always have a recent nandroid

dont have to wipe anything, just flash it over.
note that when you flash a new nightly of cm, you will need to reflash the kernel.
Is there a list of supported devices somewhere so I can check to see if my LG E975 is supported?
Thanks!

Hello,
I have looked quite a bit, but I can't find anything to help (perhaps I'm using the wrong search terms or something). The problem I keep running into is that, even with wiping cache, dalvik cache, and data/factory reset, gapps keeps on coming back. I've flashed the latest CM11 nightly, the latest Purity, and the latest BS Harmony, all without flashing gapps, but when it boots up, sure enough, gapps are there. Why are gapps still there, and what can I do to get rid of them?
Thank you in advance!

Yes because it has backup system yo backup gapps, if you want to get rid of gapps, go to mounts and storage on cwm and do format system, and then flash cm11 or other rom

If I'm not mistaken, some devs do add some gapps into their roms. Not all of them mind you. Also when you do a factory reset via the recovery, it doesn't wipe the system partition. Most roms will wipe it when it (rom) is flashed, so gapps from previous roms wouldn't or shouldn't be there.
