I recently purchased a Nexus 7 from craigslist. Unfortunately I don't believe the seller was fully truthful (surprise). When I got home I tried to connect it to my home Wi-Fi and for some reason it keeps saying there is an authentication problem. It won't let me do anything other then select a language and connect to Wi-Fi. He said it had 4.4 on it, and lucky for me, I bought the tablet to experiment with rooting, flashing, etc. Does anyone have suggestions on where to start with this thing?
*Edited the version which I was told was on it.
Have you tried a reboot? Several have posted a reboot resolved their problem with this.

I'd just nuke it and start fresh. https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images
Well I got it to connect to my friends Wi-Fi but I'm still going to have some fun with it.

Hi, LVMickey...
https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images
These are Factory Stock Images for Nexus devices... sort of like installable versions of Windows... but for Android instead.
-----------------------------
** If you have the WiFi only Nexus 7, you need the 'Nakasi' version.
** If you have the WiFi & 3G (Mobile) Nexus 7, you need the 'Nakasig' version.
** KOT49H is the latest build version (KitKat 4.4.2).
-----------------------------
Make sure your Nexus 7 is definitely the first generation model (2012)... because the second generation model (2013) requires the Razor and Razorg factory images.
Download the correct one to your PC... and then follow the instructions given here...
[GUIDE] Flashing a Factory Image with fastboot / return to stock.
Hope this clarifies a few things... and good luck.
Rgrds,
Ged.
out of curiosity, how much did you pay for it.
just wondering because i was playing around with the newer Nexux 7 at walmart and i got tempted to jump ship to the newer version. If i do,i will sell it on craigslist.
seems like they are going for between 90-110 bucks.

You can get at least $100-120 from a pawn shop, then if you change your mind, you have time to get it back. Just a thought. That's what I did- I pawned my N7, got a new tablet, then went back later and got my N7 back. Now I have both lol, which wasn't the plan, but I love them both so much for different things! Anyway, point is you'd get what you want money-wise without having to commit to the sale (just in case).

I've been ecstatic with my Sprint SGT until 1.) the recent OTA which cost me root access and 2.) I learned my $30/month data plan does not include the hotspot/wifi access.
Since 99% of my access is via home wifi, and my Moto Droid is rooted and provides wireless tether, I'm not sure why I need to pay the monthly fee. At $300 + tax for the Tab, and another $750 for the two year contract, I'm thinking I should cut my losses and pay off the $200 early out fee.
Thoughts?
if your still within the grace period to try it out, then go return it.
I'll give you mine for cheaper then what youll be spending on it totally by paying an early termination fee.
I'll give you my NEW Replacement Unit with Accessories / Box(previous original tabs), and even throw in $70 Zenus Folio Case Leather for $410-$420.
PM ME IF YOUR INTERESTED.
A couple people want it from me so far, but yea.
BTW: you shud be able to gain ROOT back if you use the One click root on PC software. It worked for me previously on my original tab(with the new update) before i sent it in to get a new replacement.
- I used to also Teather my iPhone 4 to the Tab. Worked perfectly with the WPASupplicant found in these forums.
Thanks for the response... I'm past the return period and I'm having a heck of a time getting root access back. I believe I read where Sprint locked the bootloader with their latest update.
I'll probably keep my contract with Sprint; my response was purely reactionary to the two issues I mentioned. Just for giggles, I may load Easy Tether, which I used once on my Moto Droid, although I really don't need it. I just like to know that I can.
Question: Was the original Tab you rooted CDMA?

I have sprint tab that I've flashed and updated multiple times, you should not have a problem rooting using superoneclickroot method, just make sure you have kies2 installed for the drivers. Also you should be able to go to pre -update by flashing the stock rom that's in the zephyr thread in the dev section of this forum. Just make sure you don't flash the version with the modem. Note that u will lose everything if you do this so use titanium backup to get everything back. Honestly if you follow the instructions found all over this forum you should get your tab back to whatever state you want.

Thanks. I'm using Kies 2.0.0.11014_49 but the darn thing doesn't recognize or connect with my SGT. I understand this is a prerequisite to SuperOneClick.
I originally rooted my Moto Droid with adb commands but with so many flavors of the Galaxy, I'm not sure what works with what. I'll go to the zephyr thread and do a little more homework. Thank you.

Kies won't work with a Sprint tab (Sprint disabled it). UniversalOneClick should root your tab. I'll attach it for you. Need to unzip, click on the Superoneclick exe, make sure universal tab is chosen then click root. It's possible that windows antivirus will see this as a virus but it's not.
Definitely cancel it, not worth $30 a month. I thought sprint said it was 69.99 a month though?
and what does it give you 5 gb? i flashed my epic to cricket and i think i'm going to do the same
for my tab, unless i sell it first.
Sorry for the delayed reaction... I just saw the response. First of all, thanks for letting me know about Kies and Sprint. I been going batty trying to make it connect. Second, I've tried SuperOneClick but it seems to get stuck at OK Waiting for device.
I have my SGT mounted with USB Debugging on...
Hello everyone!
So I got the ICS update the other day Via Kies. Worked great for the first day, however I noticed some hiccups in my connection to wifi points. Last night though I couldn't go 60 seconds without disconnecting and reconnecting. Is anyone else having this issue?
I am going to try a Factory Reset and see if that works. Just gotta back up all my data.
Thanks!
Miles
I'd do the reset, if that fails try changing the channel on your router.

Alright, I tried the factory reset. It didn't seem to help. Any time I push data it drops my connection. I have tried changing channel on the routers and even multiple connections (I'm up to 5 different wifi points). I may try an Odin flash... but I think its hardware related the way it acts. Thankfully I have a full Warranty with Best Buy that I can swap it out if they will let me. We will find out.
No issues here so far.
I use an Apple Airport Express for my wap, as my home network is all hard wired.
I bought our tabs and the Express back in March, and it hasn't skipped a beat since I installed it.
The Tabs have worked fine on HC, and still do on ICS.
Yeah, It's a hardware issue. I did a full ODIN restore of the ICS install and I am still having issues. I am going to call Best Buy as soon as they open and see what they can do for me. I know they can't "Sell" the Galaxy Tab Right now to due the Injunction against it, so I may end up sacrificing my amazing Galaxy Tab to the Apple crap and switch to something new... If that is how it has to work.
You need to modify the CCODE in the file /system/etc/wifi/nvram.txt and set it from GB to US or ALL, you'll find better performance after restarting the tablet.
Do the wifi versions come with a baseband/modem.bin in the tar, if do you could try flashing just that from a honeycomb ROM with mobile Odin.
Swyped from my finger to your face, on my Samsung Galaxy Note.
I've tried all of the above requests and it continues to have issues. It was already set to the US setting due to it being an OTA update for the US Model. I took it up to Best Buy and the answer I received was "Sorry but due to the Apple stuff our hands are tied. We can send it in for repairs but we cannot and will not take it back into stock to protect ourselves from legal issues. It will take between 3 and 16 weeks to have it sent out and repaired. Is that an Ok Solution?" I picked up my tablet and left... Looks like I am out a tablet... I paid 106 bucks for "Accidental damage" and immediate exchange for a working one and now they are screwing me out of it.
I installed the official US version via ODIN and the CCODE value was set to GB as previously mentioned so you may want to at least take a look at the file to confirm yours is already correct.

The U.S. firmware still references to GB in build.prop and nvram.txt, the only difference is the GoogleSearch.
Thanks for the info... is there a specific program I should use to mod that variable?

No problems here.
They can still sell you an new Tab. The injunction allows retailers to sell whatever remaining stock they may have. Of course if they've already sold them all, then you're out of luck.

You have to root your tab and then you can use the built-in Text Editor in Root Explorer.
So I went ahead and rooted the tab (huzzah for that) and used ES File Explorer and mounted System as Writable. Went down into the System\Etc\Wifi looking for the nvram.txt file. I currently have 3 of them which I thought was strange.
Nvram_net.txt (Was set to GB, changed it to ALL)
nvram_mfg.txt (Set to US)
nvram_net.txt_us (Set to US)
I seem to be having much better connections today. I am really not sure which of the above files are actually the ones my tablet uses but since making the change I am no longer getting random disconnects. Seems strange they would leave something like that in there. I will keep an eye on it and see if there are anymore hiccups.
Thanks so much everyone!!!
Do you not have the option of tethering to your phone to get wifi?
No Wifi Issues, but cannot play any video after upgrade
Just to report I've not seen any issues with WiFi, it works well wherever I take it. After the upgrade it connected to a couple of saved networks without issue. However I have ran into an issue with the video playback after the upgrade to 4.0.4. I detail it on a separate post here:
No Video, Flash broken after upgrade on GT-P7510

I was able to get a raincheck for the SG Note 10.1

I was having the same issue and when I took it in, the CS rep told me the same thing that happened to you; due to the injunction they could not replace it, I threw a fit and finally ended up speaking with a manager. He told me since I had the Product Replacement Plan, I was entitled to have either the product or the value that I paid for it towards another product. I was therefore able to pre-order it and should have it by the end of next week. I would suggest to go to another BB and argue your point, you did pay for it so they should honor it, you have nothing to do with Apple vs. Samsung, your beef is with BB upholding and honoring their replacement plan.

Reinstall Adobe Flash Player. But don't spam the threads with your question. One thread is enough.
I ended up speaking with a store manager the other day whom basically told me he wasn't going to budge in the rudest way possible.
After going through a "Customer Service Manager" Whom was polite enough to explain their process and how they did thing, which make sense, I pushed a bit harder. He went and got the store manager whom basically said "You're **** out of luck because I'm not helping you" in a somewhat polite way.
I ended up sending off my Tablet for "Repairs" instead of an instant replacement like I was promised because they are too afraid of legal matters. Or at least my store is. Once I was done doing the repairs I basically told the store manager I wouldn't be shopping with best buy anymore and that I see why his company is crashing in around their ears and walked out.
I also returned a 500$ Galaxy Note as they couldn't get me one that wasn't basically falling apart.
So did you return it because of continued wi-fi issues?
So my update is on Sept 1, and I plan on going anywhere I need to in order to find a MDL phone. I NEED my CM10.2! haha:angel:.
What are the chances I'll find one? I know they are getting slimmer by the minute, but I'm thinking maybe some rural Target or BB may have one? I've been trying to get my update anytime I'm near a store, but they all tell me I have to wait for the 1st of the Month. dumbbb.
Or do I wait for Note 3/LG G2/new Sony? (i know, i know, s4 forum...)
Or do I wait for the new iphone, sell it on fleabay/cl, and buy a Google Edition s4?
I dont NEED to update right away... But my skyrocket battery is KILLING me.
AHHH I hate this!
I'm on MF3 and I'm suffering with Touchwiz (I'm a huge fan of AOSP).
I'm pretty sure the Note 3 (from AT&T at least) will have a locked boot loader so it'll be the same situation us MF3 users are in right now.
Since MF3 has been out since July, I'd think that many/most S4's would have it. If you're willing to sell/buy unlocked, go ahead for the Google edition(I personally like black mist much more than white frost, which is what the Google edition comes with. ).

Actually, ask if the employee would be kind enough to let you see the stickers on their boxes. The side of the box shows the firmware revision (on brand new devices only). The employees, nor AT&T would have absolutely no reason to update something in-the-box like that, so this sticker should be accurate. It's the same sticker that includes all the serial numbers/etc.
It may or may not be beneficial to explain that you want a specific version of the firmware, otherwise the employee(s) may get a bit suspicious of a request like this. They may think you are trying to steal IMEI numbers or something stupid.

Not exactly a lie. In the very end, MDL does perform better, because we can flash 'whatever' firmware we want... some of which can perform better.
whatever you do, DONT CONNECT TO THE INTERNET. install through apk's and then go to cm10.2. you can get terminal and the goomanager files, and install w/o internet....
Just ask to check it out before you buy. Most sales persons won't have an issue with it. Find one with MDL baseband and ask them to Leave it in box and that you prefer to set it up yourself
I'm running cm 10.2 on my s4 its so much better than touch wiz and the only feature I miss is the Samsung camera app.
Also I agree don't connect to the internet until after you have rooted and flashed a custom ROM as you can only delay the mf3 update 3 times before it auto installs
Good luck!

good news! Thanks! Is it september 1 yet?
Well, from here on out...ATT released a statement a few weeks ago stating they no longer will be supporting unlocked devices...which means all their smart phones will theoretically have a locked boot loader.
With that said...personally I wouldn't get another device and sell it for the Google edition. As far as I know (correct me if I'm wrong someone) the Google edition does not support touchwiz ROMs, only aosp. However you can get the T-Mobile variant which has an unlocked boot loader and allows you to flash anything from touch wiz to aosp based ROMs to the actual Google edition ROM...plus the T-Mobile supports all the bands that ATT uses so you won't have problems with service

the google edition (i9505G) is theoretically an i9505 running a nexus firmware... you should have no issues running a touchwiz rom made for i9505.
funny thing is when i got mine it was on MDL from at&t about a month and a half ago and it never onced tried to update. then i had to do a factory reset which put me on MDB and i want to go back to MDL. theres an over the air update now that im on MDB but i froze the apk because im scared its the MF3 firmware. i'd love to go back to MDL though is that even possible ?
I seen a little bit of bad information here that I feel I should clear up.
When you first get your device on MDL. Just don't insert the SIM card. You can power it on, and keep wifi completely open. No airplane mode needed. The OTA is pushed through on the AT&T network. If you don't have the SIM in on boot, it will not pull the update. The reason behind this is that the Phone verifies the network you are connected to. It can't verify AT&T without the SIM.
The only way you could possibly get the update without the SIM in is if you turn the phone on with the activated SIM, at this point it calls for the update. When on WiFi, it downloads it. So as soon as it calls for the update, you then need to remove required items to stop it. Even if you pull the SIM it will continue the download. So just don't turn it on with the SIM in it. I know this from personal experience and reading the Forums.

Thanks for the clear up! I was under the impression it would download as soon as i was connected to wifi.
Thanks again!:good:
Even if it downloads you don't have to install it. You can always disable the apps that prompt you to update.
I was in the same boat, being ready to upgrade after MF3 was released.
I spent the last two days checking 7 different ATT stores in the Los Angeles area for a 16GB S4 with the MDL firmware, unfortunately they had all been sold or replaced with the newer update. I was lucky to find one store that still had a 32GB version with MDL. I really dont need the extra 16GB, especially for an extra $50, but as long as i can Loki the damn thing Im happy. You might have to look for a 32GB version if you want a chance to find one as these do not sell anywhere near as frequently as the 16GB model.
Just do not put the SIM in until you block the OTA packages.

The above quote is inaccurate. I purchased a used MDL S4 during the last week of August. For the first few days, I did not activate the SIM. However, whenever I turned on Wi-Fi, the update would start to download immediately.
Short story: I placed the su binary and su app on the root of the internal sd card via Samsung Kies, ran CASUAL to root the phone and install twrp, downloaded Quick Terminal via my desktop, placed Quick Terminal on the phone via Kies, installed it, then used Quick Terminal to disable the three apps causing the OTA update as well as delete the fragment of the update that downloaded via Wi-Fi. (I posted the commands in the loki, motochopper thread.)
After doing this, I activated the SIM and didn't have to rush to find a ROM since OTA was disabled.

I still haven't gotten the March update yet. I'm not rooted, totally stock and I'm on metro. This is my first month with a Nexus phone. Is this normal to take this long? I saw that it didn't come out till the 5th or something.
Yes. I got the March update on my N5 and N9, both wireless-only, but not on my N6 (T-Mobile) or N6P (AT&T).
It doesn't roll out to everyone at the same time. You can update manually pretty easily by flashing the factory images with fastboot. You need an unlocked bootloader to do this. I have instructions in my guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/general/guides-how-to-guides-beginners-t3206928
Yeah I saw that I could do it manually but unfortunately I have a problem getting my hands on a PC right now.

That's a shame, in that case you don't really have a choice other than to just wait for it.
The updates sometimes come from the provider. Nexus are way faster updating than say..... Anyone. (Samsung, lg, HTC etc)
So, I just got myself a brand new Nexus 6P today, and I'm in love. However, after unlocking the bootloader, connecting to my Wifi network (haven't gotten to test others yet) seems to cause my device to slow down and lock up. This happens on both the stock rom and on cyanogenmod. Has anybody else experienced this, or know how to fix it without RMAing my phone?

I could see in the screenshot that your radio version is latest, so my doubts are clear, and everything is fine there. To rule out the software aspect completely, you could give a try to a factory reset by flashing the factory image.
If that doesn't work, I would advise you to re-lock bootloader, and take your phone to the service centre.
Yeah, I was gonna give re-flashing stock a try in the morning. As far as bringing it to a service center, I've got no idea what to do, since I bought the phone through Amazon. Hopefully there should be some sort of RMA procedure available through them

Even I brought my Nexus 6P through Amazon India. I had an issue with a misplaced volume key, so what I did was, I restored stock, relocked and took the phone to the nearest Huawei service centre. Took the phone, box, and all accessories, and also a copy of invoice from Amazon itself.

Well, I got antsy and just reflashed a bunch of different versions and roms; it's all the same, but now it's actually saying there's a problem instead of just hanging; gotta send it in -_- Oh well, at least I know when it finally gets here (again) I'll have an awesome phone.
