Hello All,
Its been a while since I have had some fun with my phone. Finally decided to get a custom ROM. But since I have been out of touch, so to speak, needed to know any good custom ROM that are available now.
Don't think you're allowed to ask questions like that.

Well, you are advised to pick up any ROM that will suit your needs. stock, CM, MIUI, aroma - feel free to choose from.
If still in doubts, ask your nanny. She definitely will change your ROM (after changing your milk bottle)

It seems that you want more serious answer. OK then.
As someone mentioned before, you, while entering the XDA, should be able to:
1. download several ROMs;
2. be able to read the feedback provided by the ROM's users;
3. On the above base, choose the ROM which suits you.
I honestly, deeply regret that you are unable to do the above steps by yourself?
What advice you can obtain at XDA forum? Maybe.. hmm.. ask your nanny? (as I stated before. If you do not have an a nanny, ask someone above 11y.o or IQ above 30).

I am extremely appreciative of all the great strides you Chefs are making in updating builds, however, there is often no option to download a non-themed version of the aforementioned builds. If it isn't too much to ask, is there any way you could include instructions on how to return the build to a stock look or an alternate download for a stock version of the build? I hope I don't get flamed and apologize if I am asking too much. Otherwise, keep up the good work in keeping our HD2s as a large presence in the smartphone world!

There are plenty of *stock* builds in the android development section, you just have to search through the forum...
Here is a link to one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=793924, I literally just opend up the forum and looked at the first build and there you go... A stock build.
I am very aware of this, I am referring more to the chefs that theme a previously stock in appearance build, but don't leave the option of downloading the stock version of the build after they update it .
I should have been more specific, I suppose, however, seeing as this was a humble request for developers, the question doesn't pertain to you anyways.

And like I said there are plenty of stock builds out there. A stock build is a stock build regardless of who it comes from. The Devs do enough already.
So I just got my a500 today from BB. (and I am pretty sure there will be many more on here later today)
I am already about to root it, but now I need to know which rom to go with.
Is there a thread where all the roms are compared and contrasted. I don't want to start a flame war.
I just want simple objective pros and cons of each rom. I searched but couldn't find such a thread and its overwhelming to go look at each Rom thread individually.
TIA!

Sorry to dissapoint you but there is no "best rom " . There are no so many actually compared to the hd2 section for instance so I don't think you'll be overwhealmed with some reading. As long as you have CWM installed you can try them all and choose the one that suites your taste and needs. Some of them are ports, others are Acer based, there are 2 custom kernels as well, so go ahead and try. For some, particular features would be awesome, but for others the same features would be unwanted, that's why a comparisson like the one you suggest is irrelevant. Whatever you choose to do, read the stickies first. The "best rom thread" has been started over and over again in all of the device specific sections but always end up with the same answer - there's no such thing.

^He beat me
ClockWorkMod = recovery that will permit you to backup/wipe/flash roms.
If you download Acer Recovery Tool from the market you can use that app to install CWM very easily. Hope it helps.
To be honest, since i learned about Rooting, Rom, BB, Firmware and etc from this xda developers forum, i've became a O.C.D rom changer. From CM7 rom to WBv4 and then WBv6, TEAM rom and maybe will try another different rom here in xda developers. The problem is, i know how to do it but i dont even know what is the consequences or what will happen if i keep on changing my rom. Anyone can gimme some advice? I noticed that i dont have the "power setting" widget anymore after installing WBv6 rom and change it to TEAM rom. But i dont give a *&^% about that. I just love the different rom. it's like a Girl friend... make love everyday and find another tomorrow

Nothing bad can happen if you keep changing your rom, just follow the instructions and read up on how to get back to stock if things go wrong.
I don't think the X10 made you crazy,
I think you were born this way.
I tried out the S2...I broke up with my X10

Hi All
I am a noob lol
I have a Acer_A500_7.066.01_com_Gen (not rooted)Running on 3.2 only got download for this a few days ago.
Is the UK going to get ics? Or is there a way to download it my self?
If so could some one give me a step-by-step guide as I am a noob.

[/COLOR]There are a 2 (maybe 3) ICS Roms currently available.
1. Look in the DEV sub forum for the leaked ICS rom. This is pretty close to what the official ACER rom will look like when it finally comes out.
2. There is a dev here called Protekk. (he is the maybe above) no real info on his stuff, but search here about it.
3. There is a fully working (minus camera) ICS ROM that is very well received by a dev who does not post his work here. Search for "Tegra Owners Forum" via google to find his link. He is also the dev that got CWM working for the Acer.
For any of the above, you will need to Root your device. There are lots for threads on that in these forums.
Enjoy.
as of right now there is no release of ics for our acers.
if you are refering to the "leak " scene on another thread, it is being used by the great, hard working devs to make us our ics. saying that if you are stating that you are a noob, than i really suggest you dot screw arround with what has been "leaked" or you will probably regret it as people are having some problems trying to flash this rom.
there is an ics rom out there with some minor bugs but you will have to search for that yourself
i would just wait and there will be some stable roms out soon
hope that helps
Dr
Thanks for that might just site back and wait don't want to break my Acer only had for one month lol

yup... im gonna wait for a good rom ( moscow i hope you listening lmao ) good things will come to people that are patient
I so agree with Dr .. this acer ics leak is a Dev alpha build its missing a apps and components from the ICS That acer will release..It is also very likely that you will have to flash back to 3.2.1 to update to the acer ics rom when they push it OTA. as this rom has a new boot loader that seems to be Completely different
Big warning.. if you flash this . YOU MUST GET YOUR UID SAVE AND SOUND FIRST.. AS THIS NEW BOOT LOADER IS SUSPECTED TO BE CHANGING IT. This will prevent you from reverting back..
as far as the other rom mentioned above well only thing i will say . Read more about it before you flash. IT However is safe as far as the ability to return to Stock.
good luck If you are not comfortable flashing your tablet i suggest to wait or do much more reading. Asking for a step by step without basic knowledge is Dangerous..
Good Luck..
Erica
Thanks for your advice.
Think I will just sit back and chill until Acer release ICS for us all,but the sooner the better.

Best post in this thread, and made by somebody who knows what they are talking about. I'd say listen to Aaron. Option #3 works incredibly well for me.

You are correct to say that Thors rom seems to work well. But the op clearly (not meant to be disrespectful to OP) does not have the knowledge to do the downgrade to root procedure . Nor do i believe he wants to Do so.I think just finding and following a walk thru without atlest some knowledge is dangerous. But If he decides to and wants to try a Stock ics . Thor's ics is likely the safest way to go..
I just believe myself that if someone has to ask they should read more. And not become flash happy. Even following a tutorial can go wrong.. ALSO KNOW how to get out of trouble up front.Just in case something goes wrong.
There is no right answer. its about comfort level of the Person.
Asking questions before hand isn't a bad thing. It also doesn't show they don't know what they are doing. I ask questions, but I have a general feel for what I'm doing.

Slim comes with a kernel, as do all roms. You don't NEED to use another one.
If you want to use another one use one made for AOSP.
What we can't tell you is which one is the 'best' one. Only you can decide which is the best one for you based on what you like. As such, discussions about which is the best are not permitted on XDA.
What he said ^^^^^^
Try some roms out. You know the deal.
