No I'm sure we're all aware that there are quite a few issues with Wifi not working on S4 with certain ROMs/Kernels/Modems etc etc.
Now I've tried so many ROMs stock & custom, loads of different Modems, an assortment of Kernels and many tricks/hacks to try and get it working but nothing.... absolutely nothing.
I'm currently on ParanoidAndroid 3.99-RC2 27/12/13. Wifi obviously won't switch on, it can't seem to even find the MAC address even though the file is there to be read from and I can view it as a text document. Even more strange is that under the '/Data/misc/wifi/' folder, all that is in there is one file called 'softap.conf' and a folder called 'sockets'. Now I haven't actually deleted the 'wpa_supplicants.conf' file, it was just never created, along with the rest of the contents for that folder. Unless what I read about Symlinks the other day meant that the actual working folder has changed recently.
But list of things I have tried:
Deleting .cid.info file
Deleting wpa_supplicant.conf file
Editing build proper 'Ro.secure.storage=false' attribute
Doing the SQlite trick
Pulling the battery whilst it's on
Using programs like Wifi Fixer - they just tell me my wifi is stuck
Using *#0011# to turn off power saving
Selecting the Wifi Region Code
Unticking Wifi Optimisation
Changing Wifi during sleep action
Using *#*#4696#*#*, It states "Configured Networks: Disabled", "Wifi State: Disabled" and "Supplicant Sate: UNITIALIZED"
More testing:
Different Modems
Different Kernels
Different ROMs
Different Wifi-Fixes
Any help on the matter would be greatly appreciated or any addition tricks to try that may help.

Pls read the rules of XDA. You have a custom ROM, ask in correct thread. Ty and good day
I stated that I was on a custom ROM in my opening post... Equally I stated that it didn't matter what ROM I used it didn't work on any of them, from complete stock ROMs to AOSP and Google.
Flashing stock ROM now so that I can test those codes.

1- Turn off ur phone. Go to DOWNLOAD MODE and Flash THIS (unrar it before) in Odin as PHONE/CP!!
2- When u finish the process ur phone will reboot
3- Try if u have WIFI. If not make a factory reset:
- Make a Internal Memory backup
- From your home screen press the apps icon in the lower right corner.
- Find and press the settings icon.
- In the upper end of the screen press the accounts tab.
- In the bottom of the next screen press the Backup and reset button.
- Press the factory data reset.
- Read the info on your cell phone screen and hit Reset device.
Unfortunately after going back to the stock ROM, I have tried both, I did the Wifi-Fix again, just to humour myself, but it didn't work. Though since going back to Stock ROM it is able to find the MAC address, which it wasn't doing on AOSP ROMs. Short of rooting the device again and fiddling with files I don't know what else I can try on completely Stock to make it work

Ok, for about the first time ever Kies, has actually picked it up, says there is also an update available now. What would you like the Screenshot of? Or should I just go ahead with the update and hope for the best?
Edit:
Sorry, yes I did the Factory Reset earlier as a lot of people have said that solved the issue.

Problem is ican never ever seem to get into the 3 button mode properly.. i holy volume up and Home and Power.....then when i see the "I9000 M" screen, i let go of power and keep holing home and volume up. it just boots like normal. When did you flash to JH2?
Jark...
Have you "reflashed" to JH2 by using the regedit trick you can find here in the forum? I had flashed to JH2 the day after I bought my phone and I still had the 3button problem but when the firmware was re-released and I followed the regedit trick it fixed the issue.
You will need to update your Kies as well. Just search the forums for the instructions on these items and you should be "good to go"...
Hope it works out for you!!!

You definitely have to reflash JH2 using the registry trick described in the main topic. I had to do the same but the process is pretty straightforward and you shouldn't expect problems.

Thread closed. Please search before posting questions such as this, the answers already exist in other threads.
UPDATE: Samsung seems to have pulled the update from their servers. I recommend using Odin to upgrade to JPM/JP6 instead of the method in this tutorial.
LOOK at what kies offers you before flashing if it's not JPM/JP6 then its not the froyo rom described in this thread.
Since some of the threads are buried and out of date I figured I would post this once more. Please read the whole post before flashing it can save you from a lot of hassles later.
Make sure your phone and network uses the same bands as this rom. In other words don't flash this on a US device that needs the 850 band since this rom is for europe.
****If your phone does not have a working 3 button recovery mode or if you don't know what that is then visit this link for more information before flashing your device****
I don't know if this is safe on branded, carrier locked devices.
This should be obvious but backup anything you don't want to lose.
First uninstall all lagfixes
Start up kies and connect your phone. Wait till kies recognizes the sgs.
Go to firmware upgrade.
If it doesn't report a JPM/JP6 upgrade close the upgrade window but do not close kies!
Go to windows start > run > and type "regedit"
Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Samsung/Kies/DeviceDB/
You will probably see a bunch of numbered keys (they look like folders) Find the key/folder that has strings that match your current firmware. So if you are on JPK look for that in the keys. If you have more than one galaxy S (it can happen) then match the imei with the phone you want to upgrade.
Change the following values so they look like this:
"SoftwareRevision"="I9000XXJF3/I9000SWC/I9000XXJF3/I9000XXJF3"
"ProductCode"="GT-I9000HKDXEE"
"HIDSWVER"="I9000XXJF3/I9000SWC/I9000XXJF3/I9000XXJF3"
No go back to kies and click on firmware upgrade again. You should now see the JPM upgrade.
Other info:
First boot can take a while so let it sit for a couple minutes while you stare at that glowing S
Doing this will not change your product code.
3 button recovery mode still works.
This won't wipe your phone's apps, settings, messages or SD card. (at least not for me coming from jpk)
It doesn't matter what firmware you are on we are just using the JF3 value to fool kies.
You will lose root if you were rooted. New root by Chainfire can be found here.
If kies crashed while extracting the firmware then try an older version of kies. If kies sees the update but still refuses to flash then try running kies as an administrator.
If your phone really hangs for more than 5 minutes at first boot then something probably went wrong. In that case start up in 3 button recovery mode and do a factory reset. Dont blame the registry hack, its kies that's the problem. As always flash at your own risk
If your android market is missing after flashing read the following thread for a solution: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=810230
If the phone flashed ok but the rom doesn't run properly, force closes etc, then you can try entering 3 button recovery mode and doing a clear cache and a factory reset. Doing this will wipe your phone.
If you have lost your data connection after flashing you may have to re-enter your APN settings. Your can find this information on your carrier's website.

Kies might not be able to modify a different filesystem than RFS. So if your lagfix for example uses ext4 then that could be a problem.
All I have done is change the firmware code and I am being offered JPM. So do you really need to change the country code as well?
I cant get this to work, been trying for the last 20 mins. It detects the firmware, starts downloading but crashes on "decyrpting files" every time. Tried on two different pc, one with WinXP 32 and one with Win7 64.
Is this just Kies being crap again? Or am I doing something wrong?
Last question. Does your 3 button recovery still work ?

Strange, what version of kies are you using? See if there is an update. I'm on win7 64 and have no problems. I have "run as admin" checked in the executable but i doubt that makes a difference.

I'm on an older version: 1.5.1.10074_2 so I doubt that's the issue.
So the same thing is happening on different pc's? All I can think of is that you could try doing a factory reset but that will wipe all your data. You removed any lagfixes right?
hi, first of all a big thanks for the easy walkthrough (think allot of people were wanting this) just a few questions, have you applied the lagfix after the firmware update or does it not really need it??
if you did apply the lagfix, any chance you could let us know how you done that? (or just link me to the relevant guide)
ill be trying to apply the new firmware tonight, hopefully kies recognises my phone!
also is this ok to do for branded 8gb vodafone devices??

Yeah exactly the same thing, it starts downloadingand gets about 3 quarters of the way along the progress bar, then it changes from downloading files to decrypting files. Straight away the updater crashes and windows says the program is not responding, only option is to close. Dont understand it.
Is this just me guys?
I do have another machine up stairs that has an older version of kies on it, guess I could try that.
Just getting a bit worried that it's kies, and I wont be able to update to anything...god kies is pants.
You should probably add informations about band and frequency so that someone would check it before replacing it with a firmware based on different settings and be left with no data and such

Did you remove any lagfixes? It sounds like kies cant extract the files on the phone. You could also try a factory reset if you don't mind losing your data.
I currently have a i9000m on 2.1 (with unlock, root, and lagfix).
I currently have lagfix disabled with the "disable lagfix" method.
If I were to upgrade to Froyo 2.2, will it update both the Firmware and the Kernel?
(I want to get rid of lagfix permanently).

I have not applied another lagfix yet, first I need root access.
Sorry I'm not sure about branded devices especially if they are carrier locked.
It was kies, just tried on a third Win7 pc but this one has kies version 1.5.1.10074_45 installed and its gone through the upgrade without crashing....so far.

Okay sooo.. I rooted my samsung galaxy s4 GT-I9505 awhile back and everything was going great. So I thought it would be a good idea to flash a custom ROM, which didnt go as smoothly as I hoped it would, so the phone had a soft brick which i solved by reflashing the stock ROM.
After some more time I tried to flash a new kernel to overclock, i followed the tutorial exactly but again it didnt want to work, and yet again i had to reflash the stock ROM.
This is when everything started to go wrong because i went to my moms house i downloaded the wrong stock ROM, it booted up but some things wouldnt work
e.g WiFi wouldnt turn on (it just said turning on, and never did), phone calls were buggy (after i entered the number and clicked call the screen would go black, and the notifications bar would flicker).
There may have been more but i dont know. The next day i went back to my fathers and attempted to reflash the correnct stock ROM whick caused the phone to boot up in a mode that said to connect to kies. rooting managed to get the phone to boot but it was the stock ROM that i put on at my moms house.
I then took it to repair shop because i didnt have a clue and he got the correct rom onto it but... the wifi and the calls still wouldnt work!
I dont have a clue what to do. and this is my last resort, if im missing info that you need let me know.
Thanks.
PS sorry for the poor English ^_^

I got a realy strange problem with my D802, this came up out of the blue.
About 2 weeks ago I suddenly lost all network functions, for a few hours, then it came back again. Later I had only 2G and realy bad phone reception. The other morning everything was fine until a few hours later I was offline again. It was just then it came to me to check my imei and it was gone
At the time I was on stock 30B with one of Dorimanx' kernels. I was using this combo for a few days already so neither rom or kernel caused this.
Since this problem occurred I've been busy with this, searching the net, flashing all kinds of KDZ's, Kernels, Roms and what else but to no evail.
I did backup my original EFS partition but restoring doesn't help. been trying to put my imei back with QPST and EFS professional but NOPE!!
Rightnow the issue has changed slightly, when I (re)boot my Device I got no imei but after a while, can be a few minutes or maybe an hour the imei comes back.
I'm out of ideas, hope any of you guys can help :fingers-crossed:. Rightnow my G2 is nothing more then a really small tablet with phone functionality when it feels like it. And I feel like turning it in to a frisbee
I put a logcat from boot there ---> http://pastebin.com/kdR13DaR
Current setup stock 30B, stock Kernel, no Xposed
Thanks in advance
Edit: added last_kms log.

That was not exactly what I had in mind. Last_kmsg is the dmesg from before the latest restart. I hope that there might be a telling message during boot, so you need to restart again and capture a current dmesg. You can do that on a command line by typing
dmesg >/sdcard/msg.txt

Hello,
I'm in the UK and last night I got an OTA update for my S4, turns out it was for Lollipop 5.0.1 from kitkat (cant recall exactly which). The update appeared to go fine but after I noticed that the back button and the other touch button didn't work or light up (straight after the update).
After panicking and stupidly trying things on the internet, I tried to install kitkat using Odin, following a different example someone else used (cant find it now) but that failed and now I have (foolishly) soft bricked the phone (I hope, anyway).
When I try turning it on, I get a message telling me to use kies to recover the software but neither Kies or Kies3 recognise it. Kies just constantly tried to load it and Kies3 tells me it isn't compatible. Neither list it for emergency restore.
Odin doesn't seem to work with any .tar files. Some fail early, some fail near the end.
I can send a picture of a screenshot of a failed odin for a 4.4 Kitkat flash.
Any help is very much appreciated. Thank you.
With the error you're apparently having, the .tar.md5 file should be in the BL/Bootloader slot in Odin. Then flash. Placing the file in BL should rewrite the bootloader and thus fix the corruption issue caused by your panic attack.
If the firmware is already located in BL, then check your cables and your other connections. Also, do not plug the phone in until AFTER you've entered download mode on it.
Here you have a Base ROM (HOH2) with 4files+PIT: https://mega.nz/#!cg0DWTIR!rQIPicJdKj16B4kqE5GT43HWvoUa32ny8ys5wAWJV3Q
Flash ur phone using each file on the right field of Odin (including the PIT) and with Re-Partition TICKED.

Update : I'm on my phone now. I've put lollipop on but I still have the original problem which caused me to panic in the first place. My back button and other touch button aren't working which only appeared after I originally installed lollipop any ideas?
Thank you.

I have just seen that, thank you. I shall follow closely, assuming Samsung don't release a fix. Until then I have downloaded a floating set of home, menu and back buttons.
Cheers.

U don't have to download an app. The phone has already an option for those buttons on screen. It is under Accesibility menu.

It's called something like "assistant menu" or similar, under the Accesibility options

Thank you, found it now. Not an instantly obvious one name imo.
