Xperia Z1 Multitasking issues - Xperia Z1 General

Guys. Does this bug anyone else as it bugs me?
This phone is meant to be a powerful device with a 2GB ram right. Which means multitasking should be very smooth.
However, this is not the case, at least in the 4.3(.290) rom.
Example:
When I'm playing Real Racing 3 or FIFA 14 or MC4, and I get a message on Whatsapp or I receice an SMS. I minimise my game to reply them messages. By the time I get back, the games will restart completely.
When I wanna go to homescreen, all my icons and widgets start to load afresh like the phone ran out of ram or something.
So makes me thing. This isnt multitasking. It's doesn't make me continue where I left off on many apps.
Happens to:
Youtube where I have to start watching videos all over,
Chrome where all my tabs are closed and I have to start all over.
Xperia Home always reloading after I quit apps.
Skype always quitting after a while and I have to open to sign in all over again.
Just sucks.
Sent from my C6903 using Tapatalk

Xperia home has never reloaded for me and chrome works fine too. I dont play fifa 14 or real racing but dead trigger 2 works fine and the game doesn't reload when i switch to check messages.
I would suggest a factory reset.

I just played asphalt 8 went to the settings to enable x reality (of course I had to go to the home screen of nova launcher) i got back to asphalt 8 where I left off, no reloading anything.

I usually play real racing 3 and modern combat 4 while using whatsapp, manually changing brightness, answer a call if it comes look for something on chrome or youtube all while playing the game and nothing ever closes or reloads on my Z1

.290 has serious Ram management issues, this has been discussed in detail in another thread ...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2595376
I recommend reverting back to .257 for the time being until these issues are resolved in an update
regards

I don't seem to have these issues

Some games are just programmed in the way that it will automatically close if you go to home screen I think. I play asphalt, rayman jungle run and GTA SA, and only GTA doesn´t support multitasking so if I switch to other application, the game closes and I need to relaunch it.

Well, it happened to me before, though I don't always play heavy games like Fifa14, Asphalt8, etc, but have never try
I was playing Fantasy Defense II, in mid game, I received a message from BBM, I paused the game and replied the message and went back to the game, and it started all over, i was like okay...
But it doesn't happen so often, recently I played Greed for Glory, Linezeta, Siren Fantasy, etc, and multitasking for different purposes, but the games will just continue without any problem.
Your case was probably because your battery was too low, or your phone was too hot, and probably something wrong with your ROM
why don't you try to revert to 4.2 or factory reset.

Im having more problems with the album and video album
Hanging.. E.g.
Going into album for about 2-3 times, thumbs won't load and switching into landscape mode whilst loading video let's my phone hang up and doesn't react until I do a hard reboot.
Same issue when I try sending pics after 3-4th times via whatsapp.
Only having this issue on the. .290 FW

I've studied my phones behaviour and I think I've noticed something abnormal.
Cached apps are cleared all the time which causes redraw or which causes apps the restart when you go back into them from the multitasking menu.
That sucks.
I was on Albums app and I check cached memory, it had it at 78mb.
So I opened chrome and went to a website. I went back to check cache and albums 78mb was gone immediately only by opening chrome.
Of course, when I opened album app, it loaded from beginning.
So basically, ram cache sucks and makes all these apps not have a true multitasking feel. Something is def wrong.

I am surprised this is only brought up until now.
it's not a bug (but I am not using the standard homescreen, using themer and occasionally it will reload the desktop too)
Some people also brought this up back when I had a one x which was a beast for its time.
I think they had some options to change how the device kills an app when you multi task but it never really worked for me.
Complete theory crafting here:
now that I have used more powerful phones and same problem still exists (never had the homescreen reboot though), this should be an android feature, to save battery or something or allocate system memory more efficiently.
it could also be the app/game limitation though, some really light games allow you to run music, sms and a browser all without rebooting the app when you switch between them.

i too face the same problem....
happens to me even while just browsing in chrome or even playing games like subway surfer or just going through some app
happend in earlier versions also

Is everyone on 290? There's a known memory leak with system_server on 290: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2595376
However, it seems that it doesn't happen for everyone, so we haven't isolated what triggers it yet. That thread has instructions on how to check if your problem is related to this leak, as well as a workaround (but not a fix yet).

Solution?
So,
Did you guys ever find a solution?
It drives me crazy when I am composing emails or Facebook messages, and I go to another screen for a second to copy some data or a webpage, and then go backvto find my entire message is gone and refreshed.

I have a Z Ultra, and like the device.
Every time I compose a message (email or fb), and go to another app to copy some data, as soon as I go back to my message, its refreshes and disappears.
That's just one example of one problem.
Very frustrating.

It has camera in the name so that may be a hint. Do you have any apps that use the camera? Try rebooting or factory resetting the phone.
The same is happening to me... I have the same exact apps I had on my Note II & GS 4 as I now have on my Note 3, and I had never seen this process let alone seeing it drain the battery...
I realized something, my Yahoo Messenger Video plugin was crashing and probably causing the battery drain.
After uninstalling it, issue resolved. Hope it helps...
Thanks, rasel800. After I posted here last night, I too noticed the Yahoo Voice & Audio Plugin was running & even though I have had it forever I figured it shouldn't be running at the moment. It was the only thing I could think of that may have been contributing, so went ahead and uninstalled. Sure enough the problem went away. Now seeing your post confirms that which is great. Thank you!
Mm-qcamera-deamon process...
This is what I think about (mm-qcamera-deamon), i have some 3 days with my note 3(Verizon wireless) the 2 first days everything works well but for any reason yesterday (mm-qcamera-deamon) drain my battery 60% maybe on 3 hours, i read some comments about the yahoo plug in, and
I uninstall it, but the (mm-....) follow drain my battery, the last app installed before this problem is "xda premium":crying:, i don't know why the app is not working for me on my nexus 10,and now note 3, the relation between (xda app and mm-qcamera-deamon) is because I try change the picture on my perfil from xda app, but picture never change....... Now... i don't want say the xda app is the problem, i think any app when used the camera or gallery can make mistakes and follow try make the task. And is why the device is hot and the battery is down........ Just i hope can you understand this message my English y pour but i try, :good:
Pd. The xpd premium is not working for me.. Any idea?
I'm having the same issue. Mine started after I downloaded liteflow, of all things. Uninstalled, but noticed the daemon showed as running every time I start the camera, but stops when I turn it on. I'm hopeful it's normal now, but I'm skeptical. Nothing online or in this forum has shown a solution, so I'm really worried! Help!

I have uninstalled the plugin and Yahoo messenger all together and the process contunies to run after several reboots. I have even uninstalled a few apps that were installed recently just to test. Any other ideas out there? The phone was fine for the first week and now this process is killing me.
Edit The issue did in fact stem from the Yahoo plug-in associated with Yahoo Messenger.
*After several hours the process was gone and the battery usage was back to normal.

I already have the MJ7 kernal on mine and the issue still persists. I was just able to get through almost 30 hours before it randomly appeared and started going until I noticed it used 35% of my battery and ran for ~1 hour and 30 minutes.
I just now started having this issue after i used Kingo to root my phone. but it wasnt until a couple days after that it popped up. i installed the xda app and changed over to a new SD card. could any of these trigger this behavior??
Same here. Started after flashing Sabre kernel. Qcamera ate 20 percent battery in one hour. What a mess...

Same problem : I have a galaxy note 3 official ROM MJ7 in France.
I confirm that other app that use the camera can cause the problem.
When the process mm-qcamera-daemon is running, at maximum CPU usage, the battery becomes very hot ! For me, this is the signal to reboot the phone that I have purchased at the price of 750 € !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! what this s......?
When this process is sticked, I add that the camera app (official one) doesn't work any more : in french : "L' application Camera s'est arrêtée"
Uninstalling yahoo messenger video plugin solved it for me...

Just to clear things up here for everyone, I figured I'd give this app a try on my Galaxy Note 3 running the OEM Stock Android 4.3 Verizon ROM and I haven't had any of the issues that ya'll are having. It's worked perfectly for me from the very first time I tried to download anything from Shazam. I was actually very surprised at how quickly it started to download each song...it was almost like I could press the "Share to ____" button within Shazam, the downloader app would kick in, then almost immediately I would have the little "Downloading to..." notification pop up in my status bar. I'd then pull the status bar down to check it and the download would already be finished, or 1 or 2 seconds away from being completed. I've been very satisfied with this app so far, minus the ads on each side of the "change download folder" button in the app. So, to clear up the fact that you guys think this app is just for android 4.2 and older roms, that's a very wrong assumption, as my android 4.3 Note 3 has done very well with this guy's app so far. Actually, there wasn't one single song that failed to initiate to download....I'm batting 100% so far with this app...I think I've tried like...9 songs so far and ALL 9 searched/initiated FAST and downloaded FAST. Thanks for this!
--my only gripe is your decision to place an ad on each side of the "change download location" button...it's VERY frustrating when I'm half awake and trying to press the button and then I miss-press and click the ad 2 or 3 times in a row. Move the ad(s) to the bottom of the screen or somethin...please? lol Aside from the advertisements aggravation, this app is fantastic! Thanks! :good::good::good:

"download songs directly from shazam"
I understand its use from inside the Shazam app, but does this actually download the song from the Shazam website/storage or does your app search the internet for something that follows a specific naming convention?
In other words, where does the file being downloaded actually come from?
Can you make it for soundhound? Thanks. Works magically! !
Excellent idea, but I also wonder where the songs are downloaded from and at what quality. Maybe different quality options and Soundhound support would make it a little better?

Hi,
Thanks for the interest in the app.
Next month my nexus 5 should arrive - be sure to check for updates and fixes
The app currently checks the best match from youtube and uses an online MP3 you tube downloader to download the song.
I like the idea of soundcloud, and soundhound, I have to check that.
It works for youtube share though

Android L Bugs Collection

Figured it might be a good idea to start a thread about various bugs people find in Android L.
11/11 Some of the bugs ppl have mentioned in the thread:
1. Bluetooth playback stutters and is overall inconsistent. **
2. Some report calls unable to patch through.
3. The Device randomly picks an app and said app drains the battery with extreme prejudice (personally it has occurred twice for me with Gmail soaking it up once and the other was Motorola connect).
4. Battery is not being managed properly
5. Ram is also buggy?
6. Google Now launcher working Incorrectly.
7. attentive display isn't working properly in all apps.

I would love others to confirm this. My music playback on the L soak test build is too fast. It speeds up the music just a half beat or so. Everything is just a little bit faster than it should be, and in some cases it's hard to discern. But I have tested multiple tracks and gotten others to listen and confirm too. Music playback through Play Music is not timing the songs correctly.

Nope. Google Music on my desktop and Google Music on my phone play the same song in absolute perfect sync.
I'm having a pretty major problem where apps like hangouts and gmail seemingly randomly decide to stop syncing in the background. I'll get a message, and it will either not notify me at all, or wait up to several minutes to do so, where it used to be nearly instant.

Yeah, my method for updating since I was rooted before was the toolbox system.img, then supersu into safe mode, then at&t modem, then update. I factory reset first thing after applying the update, but that doesn't seem to have fixed it. What's weird is that I'm having very similar issues on my nexus 7, which is running the 5.0 developer preview.
Edit- I factory reset it again. Lets see what happens.
Don't know if its Google Wallet or Lollipop but overnight my battery went from 90% to 15% with the screen off the entire time. And Google wallet was responsible for 41% of the usage.

Sorry, should have clarified that my music speed issue is happening when I'm playing through my car on bluetooth. Ford Sync with MFT. Can anyone try playing through a Bluetooth device and see if playback is sped up?

Nope. Google Music on my desktop and Google Music on my phone play the same song in absolute perfect sync.

That's a huge wake lock. Can you share the screenshot of the app that was causing it?

I had to put my phone in safe mode https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/prod_answer_detail/a_id/94932/p/30,6720,8696/kw/safe%20mode.
Once I went into safe mode tried encryption and the phone rebooted, encrypted then rebooted again and I was good to go. Please note you must have a fully charged battery and it plugged in for it to encrypt.
Hope this helps and good luck

[Temporary Fix] [APP][root] launcher redraws in lollipop 5.0.2

Hey,
By now everyone using the stock lollipop provided to us by sony must be pissed at the constant launcher redraws.
And hoping that not many of you have cannon-ed their phone at the wall, here is a temporary fix. This is a root app available on google play that allows the user to lock an app in system memory [RAM] hence no redraws. There is marked difference, see for yourself. The free version will allow you to lock one app to system memory. To fix the launcher redraws, lock "xperia home" and voila an easier life with less anxiety hope they fix this intrinsically with the 5.1.1 (fingers crossed)

This is merely fixing the symptoms not the cause. Memory leaks will still happen and other apps such as for example Walkman will close.
Now that 5.1 is standing on our porch I'd rather wait it out instead of messing with the priority of my apps.
I'd go as far to say I'm rather restarting my Z1 once a day making some use of that smooth psx bootlogo
URL is broken, remove the colon on the end of the line.
Sorry mate, try now
Didnt see any improvements, still redrawing when i close chrome and i still cant multitask...

Its not supposed to fix the multitasking. Just to prevent the
Launcher from taking a good 4 seconds to load everytime
You exit an app and press home.
i use system monitor and home redraws when ram is arround 300mb, all apps will force close
I know but as i said no improvements, it still takes over 4 seconds to close chrome... now it kind a loads it in background before chrome fades away... cannot explain it, like when i press home, it waits for home to redraw, then it closes chrome... before it just closed chrome instant, then waited to home to redraw... timely no improvement at all, still need to wait that 5 second after home button is pressed before i can continue. then another annoying thin is that your app asks for root like 7 times in a minute, constant toasts about it... ofc i can disable the toasts but yeah. aaand ive been losing my wallpaper many times in this couple days ive been using it. problems problems... luckily 5.1.1 is on the door really soon !

I get you, but that's system lag. When chrome actually does close, earlier on you had to wait for all the icons to appear. Now it doesn't happen for me. Chrome closes instantly on my device (rockz1-3.3.1). Maybe you have some other app messing up or maybe a sensitive memory killer in place. Yea hope they fix it, i dunno why i have a bad feeling

Eventually it will redraw yes, this app only sets the lowest priority for "xperia home" to be killed when your memory is clogged and your system needs it.
Problem solved.
Just download pimp my z1 and go to memory management -> and change swapping memory from 60% to 30%
What I guess is Sony built z1 5.0.2 based on 3gb ram devices such as z2 or z3 and forgot to change the swapping memory %
The memory remaining of 2gb and 3gb are totally different!

European honor 7 stutter/lag

I received my honor 7 this week and im generally pleased with it.
The only issue thats starting to get annoying is the lag and stuttering while scrolling through any menu or app.
I've made sure its in performance mode. I assume the govenor is being to aggressive on the downclocking.
Anyone else having this problem

Stutter and lag can happen once in a while, which is there on even the best of phones. Besides that you might notice a small lag if you restart the phone and stock apps start for the first time. Or soon after installing a new rom might lag as well for a minute.
Did factory resetting fix this problem? I am having the same lag in scrolling, since I received the phone. Am thinking about factory resetting now.

Are you using the default theme? I have noticed that with some of the themes I have tried there is a problem with lag or stuttering between home screens. This is not the case with most themes, but some of them seem a bit badly put together as they can cause problems. The one I'm using at the moment (Lyle's Golden Age) is completely lag-free. I found the original theme so ugly that I removed it immediately and I can't remember if it had a problem.
This problem seems to be of a software nature and if you use Nova launcher there should be no problem.

I am not using the default theme. I tried Lyle's Golden Age to check, but still stuttering.
I use the Google Now Launcher, where it is really obvious.
When I swipe to the left to get to the now part, the device has to load the list. Takes like half a second.

Ok then, this is nothing I have seen at all! In your situation I would suspect a bad app and so I would firstly try to uninstall apps one at a time and if this didn't help, factory reset.
BTW, what is your firmware version and where did you buy it?

Bought it from Vmall, EU version.
Firmware version PLK-L01C432B121.
I might just do a factory reset.
Strange things are happening, and I think this lagging is happening since the first boot.
Your phone is 100% smooth?
Like if you open an app that has a scrolling list and immediately start to scroll, it doesn't lag and keep running a little bit when you stop?

I can only remember two apps from the top of my head that have had this behaviour, and that is the default web browser and Tapatalk. I use Chrome for web browsing and with it there are no problems at all. Tapatalk has improved over the latest versions, so if I just wait a second before starting to scroll there is no problem.
Other apps are super smooth right away. Name an app that you have problems with and I will test it.

I just downloaded doubletwist player, where if I add a podcast (W&W mainstage) it will lag hard if I scroll up and down fast the list of episodes.
The whole app overall is a little bit slow for some reason.
If you want to try that one, I would be very interested to know what you experience.

I tried it a bit and Went to the Games and Hobbies pod section and it seems completely smooth on my phone. The list and icons has to be fetched first, but apart from the online downloading time the list is smooth to scroll. There are hundreds of pods so you can't expect them to load instantly. When it says Reading... at the bottom it has to stop and this has nothing to do with the phone.

I have a hard time distinguishing between something just still loading in while scrolling or just lagging.
I took the same list you just said, and if I load like 200 things and then scroll trough that list it is smooth until is suddenly jumps a bit.
Then it is smooth again, and then again a little jump and skipping a few podcasts and stuff.
That doesn't happen for you?

No, if I let it load 200 podcasts and scroll fast through that list it runs comlpetely smooth and stops only if I put my finger on it. It rolls almost all the way down to the last entry if I swipe fast with my finger.

Well, that is good news. That means that I will just have to try and reset my phone and that it is still and awesome device.
I will try and factory reset and report back for others!

Do that and do NOT reinstall a backup of apps or settings, only contacts or so. As little as possible as some app or setting, in that order, probably is the cause of your problem.
Good luck!!

If you have sd-card mounted, first try to unmount and remove this, it might have problems that result in stutter.
I already did the factory reset several times and Updated the phone to B140 and continue with a lot of lag in apps and between screens.
I come from a Nexus5, I don't know if is my perception of smooth that is to high.
Anyone else feel the same?
I dont have problems either.
Was really smooth on B140, now with Android 6 even more.
