Hello, my S4 developed some screen issue. I hope the attached picture shows it. It looks like 2 lines developing at the upper right cornet of the screen.
I noticed this about 4 days ago. At that time, there was just one line ( the one which is now longer ), and it was only 1/2 length. In the 4 days, the length doubled, and the second line appeared.
The lines seem to have a certain thickness that does not change when I do the macro shot under different angles, as I would expect to be the case if it was the top glass cracked - I would expect a glass crack to be thin. And I do not feel anything when touching the glass.
Any idea of what this is, and what to expect from Samsung service ? The phone is under warranty, but service here in Czech Republic is generally horrible, and even foreign companies seem to have matched the local service awfulness....
Thanks for any info, Paul.
Difficult to say what it is, but it could be the glue between the digitizer and the display showing (I don't even know if that is possible!), or it could be something else entirely. But it doesn't look like a crack. You can give taking it to the service center a try, but don't be too hopeful I guess!
well, it's sad to see same story happen on someone else. I have the same issue. The good side is it doesn't really affect the view, bad side is, it will keep moving down to center of screen and move and look like some tree, if you keep it in your pocket.
I have the same issue on same place, I never tried to visit a service because it will take 1 week for them to have a look at them and tell me if it's in warranty or not. Probably it's not.
Other bad news is, you just can't simply change the upper part of screen, need to change whole screen part which costs like 200 dollars. That's why I postponed it, don't want to give that much for a screen.
Here is my story, with bad quality photo : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2542955
I would be glad if you can update the thread, if you have a chance to visit service and get info about if it's part of warranty or not, and what is the exact issue.

Hi all,
I've now seen two HTC Touch devices with the same "smudge" on the screen. It appears in the centre, underneath the top layer of screen, and is roughly 3cm long. It's almost as if dust has collected in the middle of the screen or something.
I'd have thought nothing of it until I saw another device with the same thing. Has anyone else experienced this? It's not always visible - with the screen off, or in direct sunlight you can see it, but otherwise it's not noticeable.
Anyone?
I have the same **** right in the center of my device
i've the same probleme on my screen
it's very boring
After how long did you begin to see this problem? I have only had my Touch a short amount of time and haven't had this issue but its not great that many people are dealing with it.
Damn, I hope this doesn't turn into another "my black Trinity is peeling" issue that affects all or most Touch users. Why don't you guys run a poll to get an idea how wide spread this is? Perhaps HTC needs to be made aware of this if it's not just some isolated defects.

I was one of the few that never had paint peeling issue on my black Trinity so hopefully I can dodge this smudge issue too....
I think u will find that it is an inherent part of the hard touch screen. Device off on all touches should display what some call a blur. I have to put mine at an angle and I can see a small 1cm max. aboration. otherwise quite unnoticeable.
Had mine almost 8 weeks and not any hint of any smudge / blur or anything unusual
Guess what, I also have this blur at the center of my screen, I thought nothing of it at first because it is barely noticable and second I thought that maybe I accidently pressed on the screen to hard at one point while carrying in my pocket; However now I am more concerned due to the fact that others have this same issue...??
Same problem with mine.
to all that have the problem. Do you have an original Touch ore a branded version (XDA, MDA etc.)?
Well, i have that little piece of htc touch since about one week, the branded version XDA. don´t got that smudge on my screen, and i hope i never will. ... otherwise i will get it back to the shop and try to get a new one ... have got the experience that O2 (i´m having the htc from that privider in Germany) turned out to be quite nice in such things.
just something that you migh like to consider. Coming from unverified source:

...Unfortunately, my Touch has developed a patch of fog or dust under the screen, and HTC have confirmed they've had several reported cases of this. They were very helpful on the phone, though, and sound like they're going to be good about getting me a replacement quickly
can someone post a screenshot, that the other users
know, what you are talking about?
thanxs in advance

i see a big patch while starting the device where it says "smart mobility" but after that never noticed it :-/
i will try to take a pic of it ........
are you talking about that submarine or something below smart mobility?

yeah yeah its kinda submarine .....is it same with ur mobile ?? i guess the background they have used is not perfect black :-/
I'll try to get a photo of it tonight. It's basically a smudge that's 2cm high, and half a centimetre wide, right in the centre of the display. It's beneath the external covering on the screen, and almost looks like a neatly arranged collection of dust right in the middle.
I may have someone who can look into this for me, so I'll investigate and post here if anything turns up. It does sound like this is a problem with the device though, and is more widespread than I expected.

Yeah but I only noticed it when soft resetting and when someone posted it here so I looked below the smart mobility text carefully.. haven't noticed it otherwise..
Smudge
I had this problem just days after getting my Touch. I sent it back and got another... I have a smudge again... even though it isnt as bad. I will contact HTC again and see if I can send it back again. Not sure I will have a Touch after sending this one back.
I am posting regarding issues I've been haveing with my Nexus One units. Yes I have done swaps with HTC on three occasions and keep having the same issues.
One issue is a defect on the top left hand corner of the device where if there is a light shining on it at the right angle; a scuff mark appears. It is not rough to where you can feel it only to where it can be seen. It's an eye sore if you notice it.
Also is the dust under the screen. I know this problem will occur in most phones but is a nuisance to me. HTC is quick to swap out any phone with such problems.
And here on my third unit I'm getting screen flickering.
I would like to give info on how I treat my gadgets in general. I always take the greatest care for every tech I buy. My Nexus One has never hit the floor or been near water to cause any damage. Its always in the stock sleeve when its not being used.
I absolutely enjoy using my phone, but these replacements units are getting worse each time. Has anyone noticed any of the problems I'm speaking of, more so on the scuff mark and screen flickering?
Again this is not a slight towards the phone which I feel is great, but just to get a notion if this is going on to other owners or just localized with me.
Thank you for any response you give.
The only thing I can see under bright light on the top left is the light and proximity sensors. I don't have any of the issues you describe in fact, you must have been very unlucky.
Are you sure they actually swapped your phone (only applicable if you didn't got the advance replacement where they put a hold on your CC), worth noting your IMEI or serial number when replacing.
I had dust under the screen but have not had the problem since sending it in under warranty. Other than that the manufacture quality seems quite high given my limited sample set of 1.
I see the same scuff mark in the upper-left corner, but I only saw it after having dropped the phone once. Otherwise, I had the clicking screen corners, but a hairdryer took care of that. To date (~1.5 months of use), still no dust, and that's with regular use of the trackball and everything.
I did have an actual swap, replacement came in before I sent mine out. I tis unfortunate, but it seems out of the ordinary to have the same scuff mark on each replacement. I did check IMEI numbers on all devices.
I really enjoy this phone, Ive gone through countless phones ranging from Nokias to Samsungs to HTC. I never had this problem before with all of those.
The scuff mark appears on the body of the phone, not the screen. I understand where the sensors are and thankfully that has not been a problem I went through.
I just can't imagine this is all my luck of replacements.

Post a picture of this scuff mark you're referring to. If you've had it on three different phones and the rest of us don't have it, then there's obviously a disconnect here.
from my talks with HTC when you send the phone in to be repaired instead of exchanged they fix all the issues 100% because they are repaired by hand. i was assured when i got mine back it would have 0 chance of having anymore dust issues. so we'll see how that goes.
didn't have any of the other issues you mentioned though.
I have tried to photograph said defect, but to no avail. I have tried over and over again to, but the camera I have is a piece of junk.
I assure you what I said about it. Its not me doing anything wrong. I had it on my original phone and thus checked every time I received a replacement.
I do not know if the technicians are actually following the advice I gave them to the HTC rep to angle the phone to find it.
Recently I sent out a message to Google directly pleading to receive a brand new unit, I will probably not get that knowing how businesses work. I'm an accountant/consultant.
The ways things have turned out tell me that there is a fault in the manufacturing process, maybe localized to a certain "chain" if you will. How I got three of the same problems amazes me. I know it has been fixed because I have two other friends that have this phone without the problem of the scuff mark. They purchased the phone a month after it came out meaning they received a phone from a different batch.
I will update this thread again when I receive another replacement after the current ticket is resolved. Thanks for the responses
Hi all,
this morning I left my tablet at home and when I come back found it with broken glass (I think tmy little brother dropped it, but he doesn't confess)..
Sometimes touch works, more often not.
However.. What can I do? I read that some lcd are not glued properly, and it could be my case, because on the left it's a bit lifted on the center.
In your experience, is there hope that it can be repaired for free?
And if not, where can I find replacement (I only found this: http://www.powerbookmedic.com/Google-Nexus-7-LCD-and-Digitizer-Assembly-p-22606.html , but it isn't available)?
Thank you!
sooooo sad! :/

At this moment you have Two Options..
1. Sell it on Ebay for Parts you probably get about 50 to 100 at most.
2. Pack it up and store it away in a closet and forget about it. Until the Screens are being sold as parts.
the reason for both options is due to Asus not selling the LCD/Glass at the moment as a Part.
they are still manufacturing the Nexus 7 and soon will be making the Nexus 7 with 3g capability.
so there biggest priority at the moment is to keep making them.
you can send it in for repair with Asus but it will cost you about $160.00 just to get it repaired.
not to mention how much it going to cost you to ship it to them.
is the device frame cracked or damaged broken is the back scuffed or cracked .. Does it look like its been dropped. IS THE Crack on the left side. CAN You post pictures. Answer the above and give some pics and more info..
i know you do not really know for sure .one more question was it moved can you tell for sure rather someone was using it or not ?
If you really feel it cracked laying where you left it . Without anyone touching it . CALL GOOGLE PLAY.. But please do not be dishonest . There is a issue with the screen lift cracking and becoming unresponsive . as well as backlight flashing issues..
Looking forword to seeing pics and more info
my problem is that when i received my device i found a small bend (like if a small ball hit the screen )on the down button of the screen , it wasn't noticeable even if you move you`re finger across it , then several days a go I was working hard on the device and it got really hot and suddenly i noticed a yellow thing on the screen same place as the bends locate ,
the yellow thing will go after the screen cools down
any idea what is that yellow thing
if any one have any idea how to fix it I would appreciate that
Thank you allot
note: at the moment am not in us or any country that google play support :crying:.
Looks like the glue that sometimes shows up on the N4/iPhone when they overheat. If it is, it isn't a huge deal
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
is it going to disappear ?
Do you want to risk waiting? Get Google to replace it asap. You paid hundreds for the device, it should be *perfect*.

Dude I have the exact thing wrong with mine. When its hot I get a really ugly yellow ring there too. Rest of the screen is fine but hasn't dissipated in two weeks.
The bad news is that either you play the play store lottery and end up with a worse device or you do the same with lg. I was going to get mine repaired, or rather have the screen replaced by lg rather than get yet another exchange but another person said that lg charged the repair cost and shipped a new phone. I don't know if the replacement is a refurb but it would make sense. The whole point for me with lg doing the warranty repair is to not get a different phone. Everything about my phone is awesome. I think we might have no choice unless you just want to keep it. I was going to but the ring drives me nuts. It is very visible in a sea of white.

it is hard to ignore the problem , the device is fantastic
but what is that yellow spot
is it glue ?
how does glue reached the middle of the screen :silly:
Well the whole screen is glued to the touchscreen. The glue is thicker in that area because of the deformation in the glass. The person or robot pushed too hard when the panel was installed or glued and thus it dried unevenly. I got an order in for yet another RMA but the situation really pisses me off. My last is faster binned, perfect speaker and battery and everything else. Hardly any rattle, etc. When the RMA replacement ships I'm still going to call the lg warranty number and see if there's an option to replace my actual screen rather than getting a replacement. I seriously doubt they will scrutinize a device, even one they have repaired through refurbishment, as much as an anal retentive owner like myself will. I'll let you know if I find anything out. Knowing my abysmal record with the play store, my next will be worse than this one.

if LG would replace our screen I think that would be PERFECT .
ahhhhh
my friend I hope that you would be able to fix your problem , yet in my case I am outside usa at the moment so i think LG would charge me for a new device (or screen) .
if you were able to resolve your problem please don`t forget me :crying:

Hey Guys,
I have noticed have been a few reports of S7 Edge screens cracking for what seems to be no reason. Mine has lived in a Pelican cover all of its life
I had mine next to my bed last night, before going to sleep I turned it over to be screen side down, and I heard a weird noise coming from it (sounding something like an electrical short). I picked it up, unplugged the charger, and was able to see the cracks appear as they slowly (over about 4 seconds) appeared all over the screen.
From looking at it, the cracks appear to have originated from the volume buttons?
Does anyone have any ideas / other articles / posts that I can see to help me with my case with Samsung warranty in Australia?
Thanks a lot for your help
I did try and insert a link to the photos I took, but as a new member I cannot insert links.
Haven't heard of this issue.
Try mailing me a link through private messaging and I can post it.
There you go.

It appears that the display cracked from within? Did you apply any considerable force to the volume buttons before this?
Can you feel the cracks when running your finger across the screen?
I'm sorry for your loss, though you actually seem strangely calm when discussing your spontaneously cracking smartphone.

The cracks seem to be from within the screen, and you cannot really feel anything from the surface.
There was no unusual force applied to the phone that I can recall.
The part that really confused me, was the fact that it seemed to take about 5 seconds from the start of being able to hear the noise, to the time the cracks had made their way across the screen.
Yeah, not calm, pretty pissed about the whole thing actually. I was hoping I would be able to find a few more examples of this happening to others, but it doesn't appear to be the case.
Contact samsungs customer service, maybe there is a chance that you get it replaced by samsung. Doesn't look like it's your fault.

The problem will be proving that. I'm not implying the OP isn't being truthful, but you can pretty much guarantee the majority of people that go to Samsung with cracked screens do so whilst claiming that it just happened and the phone hadn't been dropped/manhandled etc, even if they had. Unfortunately, I can't see this being repaired free of charge.
As for the photos, I can't look at them without cringing! I'd be mortified if that happened to mine. Hope you get it sorted.

The phone is currently with a service centre in Perth WA.
The guy I spoke to there was one of the biggest douche bags I have dealt with in a very long time. He had very close to zero interest in helping me, and pretty much laughed me off the whole time.
Yesterday (after about a week of it being at the service centre) I contacted Samsung Support, and they informed me that the warranty case manager at Samsung had rejected my claim as hey do not cover physical damage. I informed her of what had happened to the phone, and why in my opinion it should be covered. She said that there was no information on the Service Request form about what had happenened (written and sent in by the DB in Perth), and all the request said was "Cracked Screen and customer is escalating for Samsung to Cover". There was no information about what I had said happened, and as the case manager does not have the physical device (I am assuming they are on the other side of the country), they just directly rejected it without any thought because they don't normally cover that sort of damage.
Long story short, they are going to re open the service request with the new information and see how it goes.
This time I will be able to speak directly with the Samsung case manager and explain to him my version of events, instead of wasting my time with some smart arsed tech.
Fingers crossed
Simmilar issue like Note 5/ Edge Plus. The problem is from drastic temperatures of charging device and surface of your table/ plot. The phone is very warm because of the charging process but the surface of the plot is cold -> and boom, the screen or glassy back cracking. My opinion is because of the slim body of the device, when the battery going to degredation the dimensions is going bigger and there is a chance to crack the whole device from inside.
Same. S7 Edge Glass Cracked for no Reason
I recognize this thread is old, but same thing happened recently to me with my S7 Edge after less than a month. Never broke a phone ever, had it in a case, didn't drop it. Broke similar to yours. Samsung basically said 'we don't believe you' and that was the end of it. Done with those guys. Nokia was also a once great cellphone Company who similarly got smug like this, and how many of you are carrying Nokias around these days? Exactly, none of us.
