I have the latest MJA, rooted, with KNOX tripped, most of the TW ROMs I see on our GS4 section says (MK2) does that mean I wouldn't be able to flash them on my device knowing that I'm MJA?, or is the label just written as that to say that its a 4.3 ROM without the KNOX boot loader?, orrrrrr I don't know, im confused on this whole KNOX thing
×Rebel Nation×
You can flash those Roms because when you wipe your phone you essentially wipe the MJA firmware and install MK2.

Not quite. You erase the MJA SOFTWARE when you flash a MK2 ROM. To change the FIRMWARE to MK2 would require the use of Odin.

confused software with firmware. my bad. I know what I'm saying though.

So that won't mess with anything that has to do with KNOX correct?

If you've already tripped the Knox counter, whatever you do now will have no effect on it.

I can't see my flash counter anymore. Is it because the bootloader is locked in MF9?
It really doesn't matter to me but I was just wondering

Triangle Away isn't working on the MF9 update yet. I am sure it will get fixed in the next update.

Is there a way to know when the new Triangle Away is released? I have MF9 and want to root it, but concerned about the counter, should I need service?

This message brought to you in part by Sprint and the letters GS and the number 4
Yeah, triangle away isn't compatible at this time and very possibly won't be in the future. I was looking online fir the USB jigs, but none of them say Galaxy s4. I would think they would all be the same, but I don't know. Anyone with that info??

All I know is the MF9 firmware is a pain in my a$$ to get rid of once its installed.
Maybe that's why it's "MF"9? Mine was MF9 when I got it, so I don't know what the prior release was like.

I have a quick question. I am on MDL rooted with a custom recovery. If I flash a custom ROM that's based off of MF3, will it upgrade my bootloader & make me lose my recovery?

No

Hey guys new to the S4 thread, just updated from the S2 decided to go with this over the N5 because of a few features. I plan to root my device, but need a bit of help. I'm on 4.2.2 and wanted to know how should I go about rooting? Should I update to 4.3 then root or root on 4.2.2 thanks!
Root mf9 and stay on that

Is updating to a rooted version on 4.3 ok?
Staying on 4.2 is highly recommended. The Knox bootloader on 4.3 is no good. If you really want 4.3, go here and follow the instructions to stay on the MF9 bootloader.

All I can say to help is that I just rooted and installed CWM yesterday from 4.3 and all seems well. I say update, then root as the devs for this phone will stay on top of update issues anyways.

And know you have now tripped Knox counter to 0x1. And cannot go back to MF9 through backups or odin.

I personally don't care about being able to go back to MF9 anyways. I did the OTA to 4.3, rooted it and put Sac's ROM (4.3 edition) on it and do not regret it at all!! 4.3 is snappier and I get amazing battery life. Just my 2 pennies though! Hopefully we get 4.4 by January-February... definitely hopefully before Valentines Day.
Is the mja Knox-free?
If it's yes....could I flash it alone without flashing whole stock mja .tar file?
I have mf9 bootloader at the moment.
Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk
It has KNOX. And I am not sure what flashing it alone would get you anyway.

I would run the MK2 or NAE tar file from the development section. It will restore your phone to factory setup. However it will install the Knox bootloader. It's likely the easiest path.

Here's the MK2 TAR 4.3
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2601443
And the NAE TAR 4.4
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2663619
As long as the device has a clean ESN with Sprint the buyer shouldn't have any problem activating service. This is the case whether it's rooted or not.

I've seen it take a good few min to push through after running the file. Those tar files need patience.

You might try downloading again. Could be a bad file. Perhaps try an updated version of Odin. Don't know off hand what's noted in the thread. Check the thread for similar issues too. Sammobile has the tar files too, if you want to try another source.

It's worth a shot. Something has to be going wrong in the steps or the file. If the phone was working before.

Just boot into stock recovery and do a factory reset. Reboot and profit.
