just doing this now after upgrading to 4.3 and losing my imei ,serial number . managed to recover those but still had no data connection . tried many rom's with no luck ended up with factory mode twice as well, efs files cannot be overwritten via shell terminal or root explorer , they get corrupted and the imei cannot be repaired correctly even with professional tool ,security sector corrupt. imei is repaired but still no data connection possible
so I will see how this goes and report back

this does actually recover your imei number . if after flashing the rom it is still generic once you do this part::
18.- Copy the nv_data.bin AND nv_data.bin.md5 files from your backup to the EFS folder in your phone
19.- Once copied click on the new files in your phone and "Change Owner" to:
Owner 1001-radio
Grouping 1001 – radio
your imei number is restored.
I still had no signal until I flashed the patched kernel and modem . but I can confirm this does work 100% or it has for me I have tried numerous ways in the last 12 hours or so and this is a live saver many thanks to the original poster

can somebody post a screenshot of correct permission to do on nv_data?

Go on 4.3

they get corrupted and the imei cannot be repaired correctly even with professional tool

thank you

patched I9300 kernel and modem firmware needed for 4.3+
It seems to me this guide is useless unless it gets updated with some working links to the patched kernel and modem firmware. Does anyone know where they could be found?
After having read other SGS3 I9300 guides on these forums and the web (such as http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/general/ref-imei-efs-stuff-i9300-including-t2393289 ) I was under the impression I would be able to get a 4.3 or later ROM working if I just backed up and restored my EFS partition. As other repliers to this thread have noted, that is not enough to restore network connectivity - certainly not under stock 4.3 or RevolutionaryS5 v3. Wifi works but I cannot dial/text out, receive calls/texts or connect to 3G etc under these later ROMs.
I was surprised by all this as I thought once a phone was unlocked, it was unlocked. I've read that there are a few sites that might be able to sell me SIM unlock codes but I'm not so keen on forking out for a code that will only last as long as my current installation, if it works at all. If the patched files don't show up I suppose I'll have to live with 4.1 and this guide may as well get deleted and unstickied as its no use without.
Thanks for your help XDA S3 users!

I have a feeling that the patched kernel/modem simply ignores a mismatching MD5.
Someone with this problem please verify that the value in nv_data.bin.md5 matches the MD5 calculated with the Samsung_Android_RIL method.
Sent from my GT-I9305 using XDA Free mobile app

patched kernel and firmware found but still no network
I seem to have found the patched kernel and modem for running 4.3 on I9300:
http://www.androidveterans.com/solve-registered-network-galaxy-s3-i9300-issue-restore-imei/
I tried these with revolutionS5 first but when it failed to work I flashed I9300XXUGMK6_I9300OXAGMK6_BTU.zip and CWM and then these patched zips but I had no success. My IMEI is still incorrect and I'm still not registered on my network.
I've also tried the latest CM11 snapshot but that had the same issues.

RECOVERY GUIDE
Flash signed recovery zip - Easiest way
1. The most common way is to simply flash Phil3759's Enhanced ClockWorkMod Touch.
2. Download the .zip file and copy it to your external sdcard
3. Then, reboot into the stock recovery (power off the phone and turn it on with home button and volume+ button pressed)
4. Choose "install zip from external storage" and select the already mentioned zip
5. Reboot. This should be enough!!
This is the easiest method, thus the followings are meant to be attempted only if you had problems with the previous
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Odin - If you have a computer available
1. If you have any errors try going back to the Phil Download Home and instead download the latest i9100 .tar.md5 file
2. Download Odin 1.85 and unzip the archive
3. Open the executable and add the previously downloaded .md5 into the PDA field
4. Put the phone into Download mode (power off the phone and turn it on with home button and volume- button pressed)
5. Connect it to the computer and wait till drivers installation is finished
6. Start flashing
7. (optional) If you want to remove the yellow triangle, check Chainfire's Triangle Away
Mobile Odin - When you have nothing but errors
0. You'll need Chainfire's Mobile Odin. Show him your gratitude and buy the app if you want!
1. Root your phone. If that doesn't work, try "Xperia Root by cubeundcube"
2. Download Dorimanx Kernel (one of the .md5 packages)
3. Open Mobile Odin and grant it root permissions
4. "Open file" and select the .md5 file
5. Follow instructions and go!
Reserved.
I would like to point out i made yet another guide for gs2, because yesterday I went to "unlock" my mum's i9100 and I had a very time
If somebody wrote a more comprehensive guide, sorry i miss it

Galaxy S4 WiFi screwy, reward offered for help.

Hey guys, I did a search on the topic but to no avail.
I have a pretty specific probably and am willing to pay a few bucks to anyone who can help me fix this issue.
I work for a mobile repairs place and we have an S4 9505 that a customer bought in, he took it upon himself to flash the latest firmware from sammobile which has resulted in the WiFi not working, you hit the button in the notifications panel and it goes half lit but not connected and never moves past that point. I tried flashing a different firmware and the WiFi fix from the WiFi fix and firmware post and that works initially but after one or two connections to a WiFi, it greys out again.
Thanks in advance.
Anytime there's wifi connect problem I've found that its the kernel.
Well, it is official firmware so there shouldn't be any software bugs. Unless, maybe, he flashed the wrong firmware on the wrong phone model.
check the wi-fi mac addres or make and efs restore, that happend when the files in efs/wifi/ where messed with, and thats a bad thing, flash a custom rom or flash a custom kernel see if it works
@Nationalmaverick
Hello,
You should try to flash the latest stock Lollipop firmware available.
-Download Odin 3.10 here
-Download and install USB drivers (skip this if you already have Kies or drivers installed)
-Download the firmware I9505XXUHOB7 here
Open Odin3.ini (found in extracted Odin package) and edit PhoneBootUpdate from 0k to 1, save and close. Then:
Extract downloaded firmware
Download and extract .pit file from the attached zip
Open Odin 3.10, choose PIT and load the extracted file
Load following files from extracted firmware: BL in BL, AP in AP, CP in CP and CSC in CSC
In Options, tick Repartition & untick Autoreboot
Put the device in download mode: power off->Volume down + power key->confirm with Volume up at Warning screen
Press Start
Once done pull battery out and put it back, then press and keep pressed Volume up + power key (you'll see a blue text, "Recovery booting"). Once in recovery (navigate with Volume up/down & power key to confirm) choose "Wipe data/factory reset" and confirm with "Yes", then choose "Reboot system"
Now your WiFi should work

How to root Lollipop (5.0) Stock ROM - N9005 LTE Model

Hello ppl,
Please help me route me to the rooting my lollipop stock rom of N9005 LTE model with steps.
I've found lot of threads but most of them are not for stock rom and few of them is not clear enuf sorry to say that.
Thanks in Advance for your help.
Flash a custom recovery, TWRP.
Flash the SuperSU zip from the following link from that recovery, https://download.chainfire.eu/696/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip
Done.
There are some theads about that. I had the same question today (for me) and searched here
But, I'm answering to help you.
Since i've Stock Lollipop and LTE version (N9005) and rooted a few hours ago, here's the simpliest method I've found: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2466423
Resuming for you from that topic you only need to download this:
SM-N9005 (International Qualcomm): CF-Auto-Root-hlte-hltexx-smn9005.zip
That rar have the img file you need, and the executable ODIN too.
How to root with odin:
-First extract all rar files (to a folder for example)
-Execute ODIN
-Power your Note 3 into Download Mode (vol down , front key, and power button at the same time for 3 secs)
-Connect it to your PC (if on the phone says to confirm entering to Download Mode (vol up) do it too)
-Check in ODIN if you phone was detected (on ID:COM appear blue, or on the message log appear <ID:.....> Added!!)
-On ODIN click on PDA, choose the CF-Auto-Root-hlte-hltexx-smn9005.tar.md5 that you extracted from the rar file.
-Make sure that ONLY auto-reboot and f .reset time are checked.
-Press START.
Now If it fails because of something like Permission Denied or FAIL! (Auth) (check the ''Message'' on ODIN), you need to :
-get out of download mode (if necessary, remove the battery and put it again, and no, there's no problem with that)
-turn on your phone like normally
-go to Settings (General) - > Security, and uncheck Unknown Sources.
-Now repeat the process from the start.
If it PASS, yout phone will reboot, install SuperSU, reboot again, and work normally.
If you have a new app called SuperSU, your root is done Now you can use apps that requires root permition.
Note: this method doesn't requires a custom recovery.

To root the n9005, you could try cfautoroot if the ROM is supported: http://forum.xda-developers.com/idol-3/development/rom-6045-spb-1-0-stock-stable-fast-oc-t3392375
You could also root by installing TWRP and then flashing supersu from twrp.

Your phones version should be marshmallow 6.0.1 dont use this if your version is lollipop
Prerequisites:
Odin,Twrp, samsung usb drivers, supersu beta by chainfire,a computer and usb cable
Links for download is below
Procedures:
1.install samsung usb drivers to your computer
2.copy twrp file to your computer in desktop(if its extension is .zip then extract it, then if its .img then leave it)
3.copy odin file to your pc in desktop and extract it
4.copy supersu file to your internal memory, be sure to memorize where you put the file
5.open odin.exe file in desktop, go to option, untick auto reboot, and leave everything else.
6.from your phone go to developer options, (to go there click build number many times) now find oem unlocking and enable it .. (Just to be sure remove google account and screen lock to avoid frp lock)
7.power off your phone and go to download mode(to go there, hold power button, volume down button, and home button simultaneously, and press volume up to enter dl mode)
8.plug your phone to pc (be sure you followed step 4 or else you may get dm verification) just follow everything else correctly and your good to go
9.now go to odin and click AP button,a file explorer will appear and find the twrp file and select it and then click start
10.you will see the message in odin PASS
11.this is important step.... Now click all the button of your phone, as soon as it gets out to download mode quickly unpress volume down leaving only power, home, volume up button
12 keep pressing those 3 buttons until you will see red message in upper left but just ignore it and keep pressing the button
13 and now twrp will be open and it will say allow modification? Be sure supersu file is already stored in your phone storage to apply patch
Now swipe right to allow
14. Now go to the box saying install and find your supersu file and select and install it(swipe right to install)
15.Super su file will be installed and patch will be applied and after it is done, click reboot system..
Now your phone will reboot and wait
You now have root access and custom recovery installed , to check root, download supersu in play store and root checker,
