After checking in to why this would not work I was told that it just isn't supported. You can use 4G and wifi data duringa call but not 3G. It's a little bit ofa draw back for me. I was just wondering what any one else's thoughts where on this?
I do like the phone so far other than this.

I'm taking a chance on sounding silly, but that's just the way it is on CDMA networks. You can only do one or the other on 3G: voice or data. Being able to use voice and data simultaneously is a perk of 4G, LTE or wifi. Of course, if you have no LTE available where you are, or no wifi, it's voice or data. I know it's frustrating. I live in Minneapolis, Uptown area. We never did get very good Wimax at our house, especially indoors.
When the LTE phones came out, I was in no hurry to upgrade, as there was no LTE anywhere in the Twin Cities. No one could hazard a guess as to when it would be rolled out. The Evo LTE has been out for almost a year, and LTE is finally becoming available. It's still pretty spotty, though. The good thing is, even with a weak signal at my house, I still can get nearly 5000kbps down inside my house. That's a lot better than 3G for sure! Sprint is saying we'll have LTE pretty much throughout the city in the next couple of months. I'll believe that when I see it.
I like my S 4 pretty well. It's still strange getting used to Touch Whiz after Sense. I moved to the S 4 after having the original Evo and then the Evo 3D. I'm looking forward to rooting and being able to run custom ROMS on my S 4.

That's not exactly accurate. Some phones can do simultaneous CDMA voice and data. However, it requires extra complexity in the phone (what's called "multiple paths") and with Sprint going to LTE, they decided to put a separate transmit path in the device just for LTE (and Wi-Fi).

There's no harm in sounding silly. :silly: We forgive you.
The Sprint S3 and Evo 4G LTE both do it, it's called SVDO, simultaneous voice and EVDO 3G data (and ofcourse simultaneous voice and LTE and or WiFi).
For some reason, Sprint decided to fore-go SVDO on LTE phones after those two (S3 and Evo 4G LTE) and instead focus on SVLTE. To be fair, in all the years i've been with Sprint (13) i never thought i would ever need or use that feature until i got the S3. The first time i unknowingly used it i didn't even realize that while on a call, i was playing WordFeud multiplayer. It's something i do all the time now, and definitely sad to see it gone on the newer phones.
As their LTE network gets more robust and mature, it won't be much of an issue, but as of now 3G is in more places than their LTE network is. So...

Thanks to both you guys for setting me straight. I was parroting what I'd always heard from the OG Evo (which I had) and then the 3D, which I just left. Of course, you couldn't do SVDO on either. On the 3D, though, you could do a call + data if on 4G (Wimax), which was and still is, pretty spotty here in Minneapolis-St Paul. Of course, Sprint has been rolling out LTE for a while now. It appears, then disappears a lot. Unfortunately 3G has been awful for months. I will be so thankful when LTE is finally and fully deployed!

Those devices did not support SVDO. I know the S3 and EVO LTE support it, and possible the Nexus LTE (additionally, the newest Optimus maybe?). I really liked this feature when on the phone and being able to quickly check email or pull up traffic info without relying on WiFi.
The S4 does not support simultaneous voice+data, and I believe that anandtech/ars had good articles describing the data paths employed by the HTC One and S4.
What I found interesting is that when the 4G connection drops out and 3G connects, I can just send a text and get 4G back immediately instead of waiting to hop towers. I suspect that a phone call would serve the same purpose.
Also, toggling 4G off and on will get you back the same mobile IP address. This is not the case with 3G, which results in a new IP address being assigned. In order to get a new IP on LTE, you have to toggle airplane mode (which is likely why this is the first step in troubleshooting LTE connectivity).
Thought I'd help you all out to understand it since you all are sooooo new to having LTE on your phones and all (that was a joke, don't get bent out of shape over it....)
The LTE standard only supports packet switching with its all-IP network. Voice calls in GSM, UMTS and CDMA2000 are circuit switched, so with the adoption of LTE, carriers will have to re-engineer their voice call network. Three different approaches sprang up. Most major backers of LTE preferred and promoted VoLTE (Voice over LTE, an implementation of IP Multimedia Subsystem or IMS) from the beginning. The lack of software support in initial LTE devices as well as core network devices however led to a number of carriers promoting VoLGA (Voice over LTE Generic Access) as an interim solution.[13] The idea was to use the same principles as GAN (Generic Access Network, also known as UMA or Unlicensed Mobile Access), which defines the protocols through which a mobile handset can perform voice calls over a customer's private Internet connection, usually over wireless LAN. VoLGA however never gained much support, because VoLTE (IMS) promises much more flexible services, albeit at the cost of having to upgrade the entire voice call infrastructure. While the industry has seemingly standardized on VoLTE for the future, the demand for voice calls today has led LTE carriers to introduce CSFB (Circuit Switched Fallback) as a stopgap measure. When placing or receiving a voice call, LTE handsets will fall back to old 2G or 3G networks for the duration of the call.

Just to be a bit more clear, it was not a sprint decision it is based on Qualcomm's chip design. The s4 krait simply supported svdo out the box and the snapdragon 600 doesn't.

I am not sure that is correct. First of all, the 600 is the CPU, not the modem - which is a separate component altogether. Secondly, I believe SVDO support is more a factor of the front end RF design being set up to feed multiple transmit paths to the modem, which in the case of the Qualcomm modem, I believe has the necessary additional ports to handle it. However, it would have necessitated a more complex RF design which Sprint and Samsung probably opted to forgo, given that Sprint's is already getting on the LTE bandwagon.

My best guess is that the advanced modem in the S4 could handle it, but to add it on top of SVLTE along with the newer MIMO antenna configurations and multi-band transceivers and switches found in the latest LTE capable handsets would require the addition of another RF chain in the device and thus significantly raise the complexity of the design to a degree that doesn't make it worthwhile for Samsung to implement it.

Yes, for the most part, cdma devices has never been able to do voice and 3g data simultaneously but there is something called svdo which allows supported devices to do just that. The HTC thunderbolt on verizon was one of the first phones to support svdo(simultaneous voice and data over 3g on a cdma network). Getting it to work has absolutely nothing to do with the network but how the phone is designed. Now I am a sprint customer so I don't know what other devices supported it on verizon since but I do know that both sprint and verizon's gs3 both support svdo as well as sprints evo lte and a few other devices.

You keep talking like the network is preventing it from being possible, yes there are technical obsticals but obviously there are ways around it. So the botton line is, can you have a phone thats on a cdma network that can do voice and 3g data at the same time? That answer is yes
Seriously, why are we arguing this much about this? Simultaneous voice AND 3G on Sprint, yes, period. S3 and Evo LTE do it, S4 doesn't. Let's move on to other things.
Some are saying they cannot use data while on a voice call, yet some claim they can. The official VZW response is supposedly that it won't happen until the Advanced Calling 1.0 update "by the end of the year".
Would those of you with one in hand please confirm if this is different depending on which network type you are on. i.e. 3G, 4G LTE, or 4G XLTE?
I was ready to pick one up until I saw this since this is a very important ability for me. It's like it is 2008 all over. I'm pretty shocked they would release a device "temporarily" with less ability than the previous generation.
Thanks
No you can not
We'll have to wait just like the Moto X.
The Sony Z3v also can not do Simultaneous Voice+Data .
I wonder if the Nexus 6 will also have this issue?

From what I've read, the Moto X (2014) and the Droid Turbo share the antenna for the 3G and 4G radios opposed to previous generations to cut production costs. Older phones would use 3G to talk and 4G was used for data I believe. If you set an older 4G phone to LTE only, you couldn't make a phone call, but could surf the net. Until they update the software that administers VoLTE to handle data at the same time, we are stuck back in 2010.
You can't talk and use data at the same time, unless you are in a VoLTE market.
Ugh. My OG Moto X can do this. Think I'll just wait to get this until the VoLTE update.

Wow...that is terrible. How do you launch a phone in Oct 2014 without a key function from 3 years ago???
So this mean I won't be able to use my navigation (Google maps / Waze) while talking on the phone?
Actually you can use voice and data at the same time... When using an AT&T sim card
It is only on 3G but will do voice and data. Until VoLTE for VZW this just won't happen.
Just to confirm. Few phones can do EVDO and 1XRTT Voice simultaneously (Rezound, Thunderbolt, S3(I think)), but every Verizon 4G phone to date that I am aware of can use LTE and 1XRTT simultaneously. It would be ridiculous to drop LTE when making a phone call!
Please tell me this thing can use LTE on a phone call.

Isn't it where both phones need to be Verizon VOLTE enabled and both parties need to be in Verizon VOLTE markets?
So lets say when the Droid Turbo gets VOLTE... can I talk & surf at the same time while calling my sister who is on AT&T? Or am I screwed unless she gets on Verizon and her area allows VOLTE?
I find this hard to believe.
Does this impact users outside US (and hence not on VZ network)?
I'm going to shoot myself. I cant believe I didnt check on this before ordering. Every phone I've had in the last few years starting with my old Thunderbolt could do simultanious voice/data using the different bands. I thought the issue was basically limited iphones.
They better enable the VoLTE and fast. I cant go too long without it. May have to return the phone and re-order once its been enabled. Its too important a feature for my daily business needs.
Yeah this is a key feature where I'm like WTF. Im gonna hold off for a bit and see what happens and pray the Nexus 6 won't be like this since its a phone that is designed to run on all carriers.

If the Moto X and DROID Turbo are like this, I bet the Nexus 6 will be as well, they are all very similar.
Well i was thinking that to but being that the nexus is a one device for all carriers unlike moto x and turbo i wondered if that antenna would be made the same.
Stolen from the comments on a long Droid Life thread about this exact thing:
Moto X 2nd Gen does not do voice/data. Z3v does not. Droid Turbo does not.
These can do LTE data and voice: DNA, Moto X (2013), S4, G2, One M8, S5, G3, Note 4. (and most other phones pre August 2014.)
Nexus 6: Don't know yet but not looking great.
Once VoLTE is enabled, how does it work? Will I be able to get voice and data with anyone as long as I am on LTE? Will it be limited to only other Verizon customers who also have VoLTE enabled? if it is the later, I need to convince a manger to let me return this phone, ie, it was a mistake to switch from the Note 4 if true.
Has there been a determination as to whether the v20 has Simultaneous voice and data capability? I still waiting patiently (not) for delivery of my v20.

I agree, my carrier is Sprint. With my old device a note 3 it has dual antennas making simultaneous voice and data possible on 4g lte. Now with Sprint Spark it not possible with a single antenna device. Do you know by chance if the v20 is a dual antenna device?
Not sure about the single sim version, might work on the dual sim one, at least I can have 4G+3G or 3G+3G simultaneous
Works will AT&T. I know for a fact, just used both Simultaneous an hour ago
Tmo and att have volte for sure
Any GSM carrier will be able to do voice and data at the same time. It's the CDMA carriers that will be up in the air if they will be able to or not.
I can confirm the Verizon V20 does voice & data at the same time due to the voice over LTE. I haven't had that functionality since the HTC Thunderbolt when 4G first came out years ago
I've been running the V20 for 8 days now and LOVE it. Now if only we can find a way to exploit the locked bootloader.

Until they introduce VoLTE on Sprint no Sprint phone that has all of the LTE bands in it will be able to do simultaneous voice and data and VoLTE is not a priority for Sprint right now. So you either gotta move back to something like the Note 3 and get less LTE coverage or leave Sprint to get what you want.

Mine does, but only when connected in 4G. And I believe advanced calling needs to be activated for it to work.
To echo above, the simultaneous works fine on the V20, even stock out of the box with no changes, but you have to be in a 4G LTE area to do it. If you drop to 3G, you lose that ability. Pretty sure it was the Thunderbolt that last had the option to do both in a 3G area , as was mentioned earlier. Only thing that I haven't tested, is switching. And by that, I mean, if you're in a 3G area on a call, and enter a 4G LTE coverage, if it'll pick that up while within the call, or if you have to hang up before it will switch over. My S6 wouldn't do it, and I really don't expect the V20 to either. Probably something with how the data is "turned off" in a manner when the call is made, so it probably isn't even actively hunting for a data signal until the call is over. I live in an area where I bounce between nothing, 3G, and 4G on my way to work, so I always had to make sure to toggle airplane mode off and on if I was just coming out of a spot where I was still picking up 3G but knew there was 4G there, so the phone would grab the better signal coming in, and then make my phone call to keep the data. So far, the V20 seems to be a touch quicker than my S6 was in the 3G/4G switchover though.
I have looked thru thread after thread for days and cannot seem to enable WiFi calling on my OnePlus 5 on the AT&T network, Does anyone have a clue?
I switched from AT&T to T-Mobile when I got my OnePlus, so I can't say for sure, but I believe AT&T limits WiFi-Calling to certain devices, and even then, only the AT&T variants of those. (Mostly newer and from big name brands e.g. Apple, Samsung, HTC, LG). Since to my knowledge even an unlocked Galaxy s8 won't have WiFi calling on AT&T, it is unlikely that any OnePlus device will ever have that ability.

Yeah, or any of their mvno's!
I was with family today in Anaheim, a highly populated, very modern city I mean Disneyland is there.
My dad has AT&T, I have mint sim (a t mobile mvno) I had near 70-80db signal, he was bouncing between 120 and up.. Had no signal whatsoever for extended periods of time. And with their low band frequency purchase, it's only getting better. It's anecdotal evidence, but still..
While I don't think t mobile offers the best network, I strongly feel they are going to get there in a couple years should they keep this up..

I'm wondering about WiFi texting can the oneplus 5 do it? Also I noticed when in connected to WiFi I can't send any texts.
Att does not allow the 1+5, albeight the technology is there, to do VoWifi or VoLte. They reserve those features for devices solely purchased from Att, ie Only branded devices. If the Le eco does work it out of the box, that's awesome. Don't tell Att that, lol. I got into a huge argument with Att NatCs and filed troubleshooting tickets only to be told, sorry, since it wasn't purchased directly, no work. I have since made the move to TMobile. Im in NJ as a reference. And to be honest, I find the voice quality vastly better to what I had with Att, with hd voice too. I've hit some spots with little to no coverage, usually at a friend's house but my VoWifi kicks in and I have service once again with no issues.

Interesting app. But I'm not sure it works.
I install it, on my un-rooted OnePlus 5, then run it - hey! there's a convincing looking setting, for wifi - and so I activate it. But everytime I return to the app, the setting is 'off' again. Does that mean the setting doesn't 'stick' and my phone (running on AT&T) cannot actually use wifi?
Plus, it looks to me as though the app has to remain running (although there's a setting to not display the notification icon, it doesn't seem to 'stick' either).
Ultimately, I cannot seem to get my phone to actually make a wifi call. For this reason, I'm skeptical this app is able to enable wifi calling, on the AT&T network.
I just called ATT.
I want to upgrade to the 5 and i need it to call over wifi as most of the time i'm in a rural situation with no coverage.
The ATT tech support said there would be no problem.
I hate to say it, but they lied (unless there's been a drastic change as-of-late).
Even if you can get them to provision your 5T, it'll only "stick" for a minute or so, and then revert.
AT&T is somewhat "famous" for their lack of BYOD (non-branded) WiFi call/text support. The exception is iOS devices, and a couple of "certified" Android phones; I think the HTC 10 (or maybe it was the 9) was an example, you can probably count these on one hand.
I call At&T today. No changes so far.
AT&T has an issue like this forever, as they do not wish to give that option to all. That is like a drop in profits, and drop in latency and lags. Anyways, too long to explain, but the gist is, they will have loss if they allow full coverage (at least loss on journal entries)..

New Antenna design seems not working well with LTE bands in US, got weaker signal strength compare with old Note 7. the downstream seems fine, but upstream speed is slow and inconsistent. switched to 3G then upstream speed back normal.
for AT&T, APN setting is fine, manual setting and auto setting in phone yield same results. not totally unusable but does feel restricted.

New Antenna design seems not working well with LTE bands in US, got weaker signal strength compare with old Note 7. the downstream seems fine, but upstream speed is slow and inconsistent. switched to 3G then upstream speed back normal.

I wonder if the different chip set has anything to do with the difference you're experiencing vs last year's Note 7 (assuming you had a Snapdragon-powered device).
Mine is arriving tomorrow, on T-Mobile US, LTE Bands 2/4 & just rolling out Band 12 in my area.
Coverage is sketchy @ my house, but, crazy strong @ work, pegging out the meter on the OOKLA Speed test app. .
If I have connectivity issues @ work, it will be easily apparent.
As long as phone calls are strong/consistent & LTE is decent, I'll be OK, as I'm covered by WI-FI most hours of the day.

I'm not getting 4G LTE (T-MOBILE) on the note FE, going to send it back to get a NOTE8.

I'm a Note FE user on T-Mobile in Philadelphia, PA area and I'm showing LTE. At first it was showing 3g. Here is what I changed in the Mobile Networks section.
1. In mobile networks, manually changed APN from epic.tmobile.com to fast.tmobile.com. I also changed the APN protocol and APN roaming protocol to IPv6
2. In Network Mode selected "3g only" then backed out of the menu.
3. Went back into Network Mode again and selected "LTE when available".
After that it switched to LTE.
I'm not sure if the APN changes were important, but it is what I did.
Drove to Ohio and back this weekend and had LTE the whole way pretty much.

I'm not seeing this Network Mode you're speaking of.
Any chance you could take some screenshots to point it out?
BTW,I have the KT Model (SM-N935K).
I have 3G w/both APNs you mentioned,but,no LTE.
Model number SM-N935S
I attached pictures for items in the connections tab in settings.

I'm missing that setting altogether, I'll screenshot later, still @ work, haven't been able to get into the phone much at all, less basic WI-FI/Data m/APN Settings.

@rowg
Here's what I have,missing the 3G/4G Toggle:
I've tried two different SIM Cards/phone numbers, both work on 4G LTE in my other phone,so,that's definitely not an issue.
Anyone else have this model (SM-N935K) KoreaTelecom
& have working 4G LTE?

I am using SM-N935K on AT&T, except weaker signal, 4G LTE works fine. but definitely has something to do with KoreaTelecom utilization they did for Note FE, since my phone is missing additional menu in mobile network as you do.

I've contacted the (eBay) seller, requesting an exchange for an SK Telecom model (SM-N935S) or, a refund. He immediately got back w/me, getting a hold of his tech guy, see if they can solve the issue.
I'll post updates as they arrive......

I wonder what the difference is between the K,L and S korean models is as far as frequency ability is?
I always figured they were the same but the experiences here show otherwise.
sent from my Note FE, S8 plus, S7 edge or S6

It's a settings/software difference between the three models, check my recent posts for comparison between the KT & SK Models.
We're used to this sort of thing in the US,VZW & AT&T will hide settings/make them inaccessible vs T-Mobile & Sprint.
I didn't expect this from the Korean variants, but,a little internet scouring has revealed KT phones are a bit of a PITA w/this particular issue.
I'm still awaiting additional feedback from the seller,I'm giving it another few hours 'til I ping 'em again.
I've heard from an AT&T user who has this model & they can connect to LTE,perhaps they & KT have similar bands.........
Regardless,I have 30 days for a return,I'm hoping it doesn't take anywhere near that long to resolve.
If this drags out for more than a few days,I may put it up for sale on Swappa with a "Buyer Beware" for T-Mobile US customers.

Thank you! This was a god send!
I also have a N935S (Note 7 FE for skt) and was frustrated at not getting LTE connections, especially since T mobile only had 2G or LTE coverage at my home, and was almoat resigned to return this.
Followed instructions and I now have LTE and connection seems strong and stable too. I will travel around this week to see if LTE works all round, but I think I can now make this my daily driver!
Many thanks!
p.s. now if I could get root ..... !
I'm guessing that SM-N935K doesn't have that feature to switch it to LTE or 4G but SM-N935S has that future this is a damn shame. I love this phone but I guess I would have to send it back.
Received a N935K today, popped in my att microSIM and LTE showed right away. so far no issues with cellular internet connectivity. definitely a few missing features on this iteration of Samsung Experienc 8.1, such as places. the techie-nerdy part of my personna simply couldn't resist buying "this classic phone", lol. not to disparage the S8+, but having the fingerprint reader on the front of the phone is really nice. TWRP and root is my current wish for now.

THX,Band 4 is the predominant band in my area, followed by Band 2 & very sparingly Band 12.
On T-Mobile US,I'm currently only on 3G (UMTS or HSPA+).
I've confirmed in the settings, along w/LTE Discovery & the OOKLA SpeedTest app backs that indication up,with the less than 4G Speeds I'm accustomed to.
Currently on the phone w/T-Mo,see if there is anything they can do..............
