Hi,
I've search around the net as well as here but I haven't found good step-by-step instructions for removing a ROM that had been installed in SafeStrap. I have both HyperDrive and Beans installed. Beans is running great but HyperDrive is not. I did not do a WIPE after installing it and I believe this could be the reason I'm having issues.
Is there a guide that clearly spells out how to easily remove a ROM?
Thanks, in advance.
Enter recovery, go to boot options and pick the slot you want to delete then delete that slot. Don't be afraid to poke around SS, you can always hit your back button to get out of a option you don't want to use. I was nervous too at first but it's pretty fool proof. The biggest mistake you can make is deleting the wrong slot witch shouldn't be a big deal if you have a back up made. Enjoy.

Hi,
I attempted to do as you said but had problems. I did not see a delete button so I clicked on wipe. I got a red FAIL button. If it's not too much trouble could you give me detailed step by step instructions for removing a ROM? Basically tell me each button in the process. This is my first time using SS and I'm really nervious.
Thanks!

If you only saw a wipe button and not delete you did not enter the rom slot you want deleted. You need to enter the boot options menu then select the rom slot you want to delete. Do NOT activate the rom slot you want deleted, just select the slot and hit delete at the lower right corner of the rom slot menu. If the delete option is not selectable the slot is active and you need to activate a different slot. It's nearly the same procedure you used to create the rom slot except when you pick a created rom slot you will have a different menu than the create slot menu.

I really do appreciate the help you gave. I just wish that an "Idiot's Guide to SafeStrap" has been put out with the software...
My rule of thumb is as long as you are not on the stock ROM slot, do whatever you want, you can always get back to your stock ROM.

I agree, I'm used to an unlocked bootloader, Nexus devices sure make it easy.
I've been messing with safestrap quite a bit and I've found it to work just like TWRP, except you can have multiple ROM's at a time. Pretty slick being that we have a big internal memory to work with.

Hey guys. It's been awhile since I've rooted my phone, and the only thing keeping me from flashing a new ROM was the fact that I intended to return my current Hero for one that wouldn't get dust under the screen (I have some in the lower left hand corner). Well, I've decided I'm either too lazy to go return it or I just don't care that much anymore. So, I would like to get a new ROM now In your opinion, what would be the fastest ROM right now, that is the most stable? Keep in mind, I do NOT want to use Apps2SD (I only have a Class 2 card). I also would like to eventually add those optimized APK's that have been zipaligned in the future, and I want a lock screen that is clear (displays carrier/time text though... I've seen one around somewhere), and I want a clear notifications pull-down. The only thing I've been paying attention to right now has been getting 2.0/2.1 on our phones, so I've lost track of all the ROM's that were made (maybe someone can sticky the ones BESIDES MoDaCo's?), so that's why I'm asking for your help.
Also, I've made a nandroid backup, and of course, rooted. Is there anything else I would have to do to flash a new ROM?
Thanks so much guys!
Fresh's 1.0 is my favorite
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=584032
or his main site here: http://geekfor.me/
If you run the delock mod, it will remove the lock icon and make it clear:
http://bit.ly/delock
There is a known message app issue, make sure to run this update as well:
http://bit.ly/freshmsgpatch
Other than that, the apps are already zipaligned, just update via recovery.
Alright, that's pretty much what I needed to hear Thanks so much! Oh, and it doesn't have Apps 2SD right?
it does have apps2sd, but only uses it if your sd card has a EXT2/3 partition
i used fresh 1.0 as well. no complaints. however the new 2.1 rom looks tempting.

your welcome
you don't have to restore to stock or anything, just run the install after making a backup and your existing settings/data will stay intact.
I'm not using apps2sd and running it just fine.
I think you can set it up if you prefer it, but I didn't want to.
so the option is there I believe if you do ever want it

yeah it does, but I'm waiting until they get accelerometer and multi-touch working, I ran the install when it was first posted and like what I see, but I need a solid phone, lol
Oh, and this is REALLY noobish, and forgive me for not searching... but do I have to rename the ROM to update.zip?

EDIT
Ok so I just watched a video on how to flash a new ROM for the HTC Hero (Euro)... do I have to Wipe Data if I'm installing Fresh ROM? Or can I just go ahead with Apply sdcard: update.zip?
no, just select choose zip

You shouldn't have to. Just load the zip onto your sd card and nandroid has an option to choose which zip file you want to install..

Ok wait, so it is a NO to having to rename the ROM to update.zip, but what about about Wiping Data first? Do I have to do that or can I just skip that and flash it?

No, just flash over what you have now. It *should* work just fine.
to be honest, I can't recall.
try it without first, if it never boots all the way and sticks,, then power off and wipe data through recovery.
Ok, thanks And then if anything bad happens, all I have to do is Reboot back into the recovery, and then press Wipe Data? Sounds good. Oh, and I should probably put my nandroid backup on my sdcard.

Hi guys,
I wiped the stock slot while on slot 1 with Bones ROM. I can't access SS anymore. When I boot my phone, I can't select either recovery or continue from the SS boot screen (touch screen doesn't respond). My phone still boots fine into Bones.
I tried installing SS again, but no luck. Please help

You can swap a slot to stock then delete the slot only. See post #2 of my ss rom for example/ steps.

No, you can't wipe the stock slot. SS uses the stock boot.img to run the other slots. Also, SS itself is run off of the stock ROM. To get stock back, you're going to need to do a full restore, like Avi already said. There is a way to restore a saved ROM over your stock slot, but you need to recover your phone first.

If you look at the message when you're try to create the slots you'll probably see it saying "unable to mount system" which means it did not create the system partition. You should see the same thing when you try installing the ROM as well. That's why your getting the "no system" error.
From what I fond is that you make the rom slots larger and it will work. The only problem I have found is when you power down or reboot it get stuck in a bootloop and you have to do a battery pull. It will then start the rom slot (1-4) fine. Just not on power downs.

So your slot 1 and 2 booted? I was able to create a slot and install a rom, but when I boot into it, it just hangs at black screen. I have to pull the battery to get back to recovery to select main slot. Would be really nice to get a fully working safestrap for KK.

I never noticed any errors? I tried it a couple times but no joy. I can try again and see if I get any errors. Will report results later. I do know that the dev has stated that 3.72 beta was not capable of installing multiple rom slots, but have heard others with success, so not sure if it is just by chance the few have gotten this to work or what.

Also, if it can't mount the system your ROM slots will not be created properly. You can tell if they didn't work by looking at the size of the system partition after creating the slot, if it didn't work it will say 0 (zero). As someone else suggested, if you increase the partition sizes (even by the smallest increment possible) they will get created and work. The only thing I've noticed is that rebooting does not work and requires a battery pull.
Hopefully this helps you.

Saweeeeet!!! Total success. I wiped the slot and re created it with uping each of the three partitions by one bump. That did not work as the partition size said 0 space available. So I wiped again and just bumped the first two up. That time it took and showed the partition at correct size. I installed Hyperdrive on it and it installed and booted just fine.:good:
Thanks again for the help. Totally stoked that I can test out other roms again without wiping the main slot.

Great, I'm glad it worked for you.
I have a rooted Galaxy Note 3 (Verizon). I'm running Safestrap and made a backup of the stock ROM about two weeks ago.
...I had not tried any other ROMs, now I wish I had. Something went wrong with my stock ROM, long story short - it's just not workin' right and I want to restore it from the backup I've made.
I want to restore it to the stock ROM slot (not a new ROM slot).
The backup is on a Micro SD card, Safestrap sees the backup file. The 'Restore' button is not red (while I've got the stock ROM activated).
I haven't done anything yet. I'm hoping I can just hit restore and it'll restore the stock ROM slot to the backup I made a couple weeks ago.
...is it that simple? Is there anything I should or should not do?

Just one more question, if for any reason the restore fails... will Safestrap be unaffected?
What I mean by that is, I have another ROM (Hyperdrive) up and running that I can choose with Safestrap. If for some reason the restoration of the Stock ROM (in the stock ROM slot) fails, Safestrap will keep on working and I can choose Hyperdrive.
...and then if I reboot, I can still choose to boot up into Recovery mode with Safestrap. Is that correct?

I've only got the one backup file that I'd made.
If it does fail, could I download a stock ROM from somewhere to put into the Stock ROM slot?
I'm not sure how Safestrap works, in my thinking if I screw up (wipe out) the Stock ROM slot then I've deleted Safestrap too. I think that's where my biggest worries are coming into play here. I'm hoping my understand of that is wrong.

If for some odd reason your backup fails you could place one of the available ROMs on your sdcard and install it from there. In a worst case scenario you always have Odin and the .tar files to restore your phone.

Hopefully last question (sorry, want to make sure I have my head wrapped around this)
You said if the restore fails I'll simply get a failed message. ...if that happens, could I choose to boot with the Hyperdrive ROM and restart the phone with no problems?
I guess what I'm trying to ask is, isn't Safestrap running from that Stock ROM slot? Or does it run independently of whatever ROMs are in the slots.

If the restore fails it will not effect SafeStrap, you will just be able to boot up HyperDrive afterwards. The chances of it failing are extremely slim.

One more thing, more of a "heads up". During the restore if your screen turns off and pressing Power or Home doesn't turn it on just leave it and when the restore is done it will turn on or just reboot on it's own. Restores can take 5 minutes or more depending on how big of a backup file you have.

Thought you might like to know, my meeting for tomorrow was cancelled so I went ahead and tried the restoration. ...worked FLAWLESSLY!! Whew!!
So my phone is back, everything is running PERFECTLY.
Which brings me to a new question (hopefully you might know). I'm on 4.3 and do not want to get the OTA update for 4.4 from Verizon. It will download automatically (640 MBs or so), and a notification will appear that can't be swiped away.
Is there something in Titanium Backup that I can freeze to prevent the OTA update? To stop that non-swipable notification from appearing?

Yes, you can follow THIS guide to remove the notification and prevent further OTA updates from showing up.
After searching for a fair while i've come to the conclusion that there aren't any threads that pose my set of issues. I've tried installing AllianceRom several times, i follow their instructions to the letter, and everytime i end up with a failed extraction, i've re-downloaded the ROM twice now and am simply unsure of how to continue, i would LOVE to see their rom in action and how it functions i'm just at a loss for how to continue, steps i take with safestrap as such.
1. Reboot into recovery
2. switch to rom-slot 1 (also tried the other numbers.. just in case)
3. create the slot, wipe it
4. install zip file ( tried from different folders, on both internal and sd storage)
5. facepalm i'm not sure what to do now i'm slightly sad because it's the seemingly coolest looking rom, there's so much customization options to it.. i just want it hopefully someone out there has an answer, and if not i'll let the subject die for now, thanks for your time to anyone whom reads this.

Have you tried flashing to stock slot yet? rom slots have many known bugs as of now and most ROM devs recommend flashing to stock slot and avoiding rom slots.

I have not, all honesty i'm super new to the entire process and thus far I haven't done that because i still use my stock rom on occasion flipping back and forth between the two and I'm primarily terrified of bricking my phone. What process would i go through to get my stock rom backed up and assuredly not going to be screwed out of it not existing before i tried flashing to the stock slot? I know i sound paranoid because i really am especially after it not working =/
Possibly figured it out
If i'm correct, i now know the issue. the file site dropped some people's network connections, and i'm guessing since my file size was only ~650 mb that was my issue, if not i'll inform you otherwise i'll be deleting the thread, thank you mr. hyde

1. Reboot to safestrap
2. Activate stock slot
3. backup -> data and system should be checked only
4. Wipe data/factory reset option
5. Install -> romfile.zip
6. Reboot.
If you want to be safer, after step 3 backup, reboot back to your system and copy the backup folder from external sd/ TWRP/######/backup folder. This way you'll have a backup on your computer in case something breaks. The nice thing is, safestrap is safe and won't (shouldn't..) brick your phone.
EDIT: just saw your recent post. yes, the alliance rom zip file should be 1gb or greater.

Well, it worked (go figure i feel like a dumbass), however after all of it i realized looking at oyur name that you seemed familiar for some reason. The first ROM i flashed, was yours. Thanks for that, it's very well made.
