Just got my new note 3. One thing's bothering me though. When you receive a new text message, it just says on the notification that you received a message. Is there a way to change this so that it actually shows you the person who texted?

In the Message go to Settings >> More >> check the option "Preview Message"
Showing preview also shows up on the lock screen also

Alright is there any way of disabling that noti when someone sends a msg. Because I'll be typing a msg and suddenly someone will send me one and that noti will pop up and screw me up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bothering me like crazy. I only know of the msg sent one. But can't find the msg recieved one. Thanks in adv!!

Solution:
Very simple solution. Go to Settings - Sounds and notifications. Then click on notifications on the bottom, then click on the Event dropdown menu and select Messaging: New text message and uncheck the display message on screen box. You can do the same for MMS and Email by selecting them from the event dropdown box.

Si I got my Note 3 today. Now I noticed when I get a text while im not using my phone it just says NEW MESSAGE but doesn't say from who is there any setting to change that rather then getting a surprise every time I get a text?

Open your messaging app, hit settings, then the "More" tab then select "Preview Message".

Hey I noticed when I get a text it only shows message received on the notification and I have to open it to see who sent it also I don't see a preview of the message. On my old phone s3 I'd see contact who sent it and it would give a preview is there a way to do this on note 3 or no ?
Try this, open sms app, touch menu key to go to settings, select the more tab, check the "preview message" box.

On my GS3 the notification in the pull down would show the actual text content in the drop down. On this Note 3 it just says NEW MESSAGE and inside the notification it says New Message again...... Is this normal behavior?

In messaging settings, check the box for preview message. Only potential downside is that it also shows a preview on the lockscreen as well.
So when I get a text message by default on the lockscreen it will show a preview of the text message being sent and the name of the sender. If I go into the messaging app however and turn off previews it will then only state that I have a text message but will fail to say who it is from. and just says "new text message". What my question is if it is at all possible to how it show up who I got the text message from but hide what the contents of the message is? Like on the iPhone for example?
PS: I am rooted so if someone can point me towards an xposed module i will be more than happy to try it out.
Where is this option as I want to turn it on so it previews the sms on lockscreen. Thanks
Edit: found it. Had to click on notifications in sms settings to bring up more settings.

Thanks but I guess I was not too clear in what I meant so when you go through the settings and you decide to preview the message, it will show who sent it and also the contents of the message. What I am asking is if it as all possible to be able to get only the name of the person sending the message and not the contents of it?
