Tried everything under the sun...anyone have any success?
I'm on an old, old grandfathered $10 data plan from T-Mobile and reps say I have to switch to newer dataplan to get tethering

Can anyone advise me on whether or not an unlocked TMO myTouch will work on AT&T and take advantage of the 3G data capabilities?
I currently own an HD2 and it will not do 3G data on AT&T.
My existing plan is the $10 unlimited data, will AT&T see it as a "smart phone" like an iPhone? Is tethering possible with the myTouck?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
No T-mpbile phone can get 3g speeds on AT&T towers, and vice versa.
I have both phones also on ATT. I use the same data plan as you. Never had any problems, even when I call in they do no see what phone I am using. ATT doesn't register T-Mobile imei numbers as far as I know. I've been using T-Mobile phones on ATT for 9 years with no troubles. As you know, you just do not get ATT 3g. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info.
where do you get the $10 unlimited data plan? All I have been able to find is the $30 unlimited data plan.

AT&T has them for "dumb" phones (NOT PDA's)
I have the grandfathered $19.99 BB BIS unlimited data plan that includes tethering. I know T-mobile sorta change the TOS a while back ago but I am an old Tmobile customer.
I brought my Vibrant off contract. My $19.99 data plan has always worked with Android phones (G1, mytouch, Vibrant). I've never had my data block. Owned Vibrant for 6 months and never had my data blocked with the $19.99 Blackberry data plan.
I do SIM switch between my Bold 9700 and Vibrant but that's the reason I keep the $19.99 BB data plan.
Anyways, I've rooted in 2.1 and did the wifi tethering thing and never got charged extra.
Can I still "officially use the Mobile AP" that's now with 2.2" and T-mobile won't charge me?
I turned it on last night and it works perfectly.
I don't plan on abusing the tethering data (not plan on replacing my main internet). But I travel a lot and would like the convenience of wirelessly tethering with my MacBook Air.
I wish I had the answer for you, but instead all I have is a question: out of curiosity, do you have the 5gb limit?

UPDATE: Nevermind. Seems as though I was told incorrectly by a certain Verizon store, they all thought you didn't have to be grandfathered in, but you do.
Thanks
Sorry for the truncated title there. Apparantely you can get unlimited mobile hotspot capability on your Verizon 4G LTE phone, but you're still limited to the 4GB-20GB standard data rate on the phone. How does that even work? Couldn't a simple loopback of some sort be created to make it seem as if you are using the hotspot instead of the "strictly mobile" data part of it? I've got the $30 4GB data plan, and I'll be getting the tethering unlimited $30 plan too. I would just simply like to use the unlimited side for both if at all possible... Got a rooted Samsung Galaxy Nexus. Anyone heard anything? Still searching the forums, so far nadda.
I have the $15 unlimited data plan for non-smartphones with AT&T. Will I be able to use an unlocked Bell Atrix and keep my existing data plan with AT&T? Since AT&T also has the atrix, I'm concerned that AT&T will know what phone I'm using and make me switch to a different data plan. Please advise.
Hey all- There is much q&a about getting the mobile hotspot and tethering working with verizon's unlimited data but i have not seen much about att's.
So my question regarding the ATT unlimited data grandfathered plan (plans before mobile share) is this. Who out there has the older ATT grandfathered unlimited plan and has mobile hotspot working with/without root?
I liked that when i bought my Nexus 5, mobile hotspot worked just fine out of the box and i never had to do anything to make it work. I would like to upgrade to the new X Pure, but concerned about my plan and compatibility OOB. Any insight is greatly appreciated.
thanks!
I have a grandfathered AT&T unlimited plan, and tethering does not work out of the box. I am planning on trying a couple of the tethering apps today to see what happens, and if it is a no-go I'll root. I've seen a few posts either around here or Reddit saying that tethering on AT&T does work with root.
I rooted my phone and installed xposed installer to allow me to tether. I have AT&T and an unlimited data plan. Everything is working fine.
