[Q] CM on Verizon Note 3 like the xperia s? - Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So on the front page of xda this popped up
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/locked-bootloader-xperia-s-and-want-cm10-no-problem/
I run CM on my note 2 now but have not upgraded becuase of the lack of CM support.
Do people think this is a possibility on the note 3 like it is on the xperia s?

At the moment there are pretty much no ROMs available anyways. You can still root the phone. I am sure that Sony will provide a bootloader unlocking solution that doesn't break the camera soon.

I have Z almost 8 months, and I will be back to Samsung fastest I can. Z1 is the same s... like Z. That is my opinion.

S4 Developer Edition <> S4 Standard

I am in the Market for a Galaxy Note 3 on Verizon OR a LG G2.
I'm torn coming from the Nexus Line.
I just found out about a Galaxy Note 3 Developer edition coming out for Verizon (rumored Nov 1) but have a few questions and I thought you S4 users could give me a quick answer.
The Developer Edition (DE) uses AOSP I believe?
How does that translate for normal S4 users and development? Were AOSP and others kernels/roms flashable on the standard S4?
I'm leaning toward the Note 3 because I'm having nightmarish flashbacks to the LG G2x days and the LG G2 looks like a big updated G2x. LG is notorious for bad software updates. It is already behind with 4.2.2 and probably won't see 4.3 until 9 months. The Note 3 has the SPen and already semi up-to-date with 4.3. With the probability of a GN3 DE, it might further expand the flashing capabilities.
I've never personally owned a Samsung Android outside of my Galaxy Nexus. I do know the current status of the Verizon GN3 bootloader is locked and development is at a stand still.
Advice?

Hi there the Developer edition is still touchWiz only comes with an unlooked bootloader.
about the rest i'm not sure but yes you can flash AOSP on S4
but well, i'm not sure if it will come to EU with Developer edition, sad that sammy locked it
Oh so the Developer Editions still has TouchWiz, just pre-unlocked? What did it run fresh out of the box? Most phones can run AOSP, just not reliably.

My S4 came with the bootloader unlocked, and it didn't come from any PlayStore. So I guess there isn't a developer edition until this new bootloader lock?
Well sorry for the confusion, I don't really know. I'm new to Samsung stuff.
Ive heard talk about Verizon Developer Editions, I assumed they were talking about the stock AOSP editions which I guess are Google Play editions.
Are they both the same thing? Google Play = Developer Edition?
Doing more research I see Google Play addition was flashable on other S4s. Which basically confirms my questions (I think).
The G2 has some good developers now, but Samsung typically officially supports their devices longer. I'm just thinking which device will have better support in a year and the Note 3 probably will be on top.
I'm just researching the S4 for patterns that will probably benefit me if I bought a Note 3.

The developer edition is still the same as original edition except that it comes with an unlocked bootloader (you won't be able to use knox). So developer edition is basically the same except the bootloader and no knox availability
Google play edition comes with unlocked bootloader (I think) but it's not the developer edition.
And yes you can flash the Google edition firmware so you can develop for stock Android if that's what you want to. Just stay out from the Google edition bootloader i know someone flashed it and he'd got some hard time to recover it.
But they're very identical the ge and s4 original Touchwiz in specifications.

Good info. Seems my luck, I'd buy the Note 3 hoping to be able to flash some GE and something stupid would make it incompatible or something (Verizon is good at screwing up phones).
Well this was Developer Edition which doesn't warrant paying full price when unlocks are typically found eventually.
Too bad the S5 is too far off.

With the CM11 builds now appearing, will the VZW Note 3 see any progress?

I'm in the market for a new phone, but before I leave T-Mobile and my Nexus 4 to sign my soul to the devil for 2 years I'd like to see a glimmer of hope for the AOSP on the Verizon Note 3.
I've been trying to inform myself on the issue with Verizon Note 3's recently and from what I've read it's not possible to boot a custom kernel, which is necessary for CM11.
Are we going to see any AOSP developer support soon for the VZW Note 3? Or does a locked bootloader really mean no potential?
There's still the vzw dev edition Note 3.

I'm confined to purchasing from Best Buy unfortunately.
I guess I could wait until the Developer Edition is back in stock, buy the retail Note 3, sell, then buy the Dev Note 3.
Is the unlocked bootloader the only difference between the retail and dev edition?

Yes
I am a big fan of cm....but I have been running beans ROM, and it feels like cm, but still has some tw features if you wanted. While its not a true cm....its damn close.
The Note 3 in my opinion is the best phone that "Verizon" offers. But if the Nexus 5 was on Verizon I would not have gotten the Note 3 because it's fully unlocked, crazy rom support and is half the cost of the Note 3. Personally I would be happy with a Google play edition Note 3 with support for the S-Pen and the note app. Even with a unlocked bootloader on the Note 2 you still can't use the original note apps on CM based roms plus something always failed to work correctly. I always ended up using touchwiz based roms on my Note 2.
I also thought I was going to hate not having CM... so far I've been pleasantly surprised with Beans Rom and xposed.
There is now a thread and alpha build of CM11 for the T-Mobile Note 3. This will probably work on Developer Edition Note 3s. Anyone interested, go here and be sure to look at post #57 > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2590561

Lollipop for C6916 Z1s certified

Hey other Z1s owners, it looks like our Z1s got lollipop certification before the Z3 on T-Mobile (D6616)

In all fairness, though, how many times did a KitKat update get certified before it was finally released? (And then they pulled the one that got released for a bit...)
Quick addition - 14.5.B.xxx version number... the previously certified C6903 update was 14.5.A.xxx... might we be seeing 5.1?

Well KitKat from Sony was being scandalous and unstable when released but to my knowledge lollipop hasn't had major hiccups on the z3 or z2, but only time will tell and T-Mobile has said themselves it will released so there will still be hope. And it could be 5.1, T-Mobile may be waiting for that to release on their phones since 5.0 itself wasn't even that stable on nexus even though they did release lollipop on other phones but because they're more popular

I'm guessing the first version of kitkat that we expected was 4.4.2 and wasn't stable. When we finally did get an update we were one of the first to get 4.4.4. So let's hope we are getting an update soon and for me I hope it fixes the interment touch screen issue that I've had since the beginning and many others have dealt with.
Lollipop = Great Bootloader still locked? = SUCKS
To the best of my Google search ability I still have not found a confirmed was to unlock the Bootloader for the Tmobile Xperia z1s
I am excited for Lollipop, but if anyone has heard or can point me in the direction of the Bootloader unlock for this phone I'd be thrilled.
Thanks

Bootloader remains locked - no unlock has yet been released for the phone, and at this point I doubt there ever will be, short of Sony taking pity on the remaining users.
Yay?
At this point, I'm not going to bother even upgrading to Lollipop on my Tmo Z1s. After waiting so long for a reliable root to be released, I'm not going to upgrade and have to wait again.
I'm fine with 4.4.4, and besides, I'm about to JUMP! And this time I'll be sure to get a device that's easily rootable. :good:

Galaxy s6 is easily rootable since it's a popular device so the gangbangers are at work to break into its system for root, htc m9 possibly easy to root too, upcoming lg g4 should be too. Basically popular flagship manufacturer phones
I gave mine to my sister. NEVER again will I purchased a Sony.

I decided to use my upgrade, and get the T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 4. Yeah, it's not bleeding edge new, but I wanted a device that had established dev community and ROM support, and I wanted the fancy Note 4 S-Pen features, and that nice large Super AMOLED screen. The S6 looks nice but I really wanted the big screen and the removable back cover was very important to me, so that I could by the spare battery kit. I don't really care about benchmarks, but the SD 805 is no slouch, and I think it'll be able to handle any apps or games that I'm going to use, that are coming out in the next 2-3 years, at least. Getting Lollipop isn't a priority either, as it seems the early versions are buggy and battery life on the S6/Edge has been less than stellar.
My technolust has been quelled for at least another year. :victory:
I did a quick search, but nothing came up. Will updating to 5.0.2 break root for us on the .56 firmware?
EDIT: realized it has only been certified not released.
It probably would... I'm not updating until there's root. Took forever to get root after I bought my z1s and since my OPO crapped out, I'm not losing root. Lol

Seeing as they've certified a second build now, I'm guessing it'll be a bit longer before we see an upgrade. Remember, the 4.4.4 upgrade wasn't exactly the first attempt Sony had at putting KitKat on a C6916.
Sigh....
Still no 5.0.2 for my unbranded z1s here, it is said that z1 family has many fixes that were very annoying in the z3

[Q] Note 3 marshmallow update?

is there any chances to get marshmallow update for Note 3 (Snapdragon)
No one knows. But let the Note 5 selling start, and within a month of that Samsung will announce whether to update our device or not, that is if Note 5 doesn't sell well they will be angry (like anyone cares about that after releasing a phone like Note 5) and will say no, no Marshmallow for Note 3. But if Note 5 sells well then they will give us the update. I am positive about the update though.
Probably we may get an unofficial version.

The latest galaxy range of the s6 and the note 5 are the 'disappointment devices' .... I recon peoplewont buy them because of the important features they took out like Micro Sd slot...removable battery and the phone being made from pure glass and metal theyr basing it more on iphones... COMON SAMSUNG FIX UP.
When we see the Samsung's support's histroy there are no device that it support more than 24 month

I want to buy a note 3 now because it is a great device, screen size and resolution, battery life, etc... But I want to know if CM or and other custom rom will be available for marshmallow. The hardware should be able to handle it, right?
More likely there won't be an official Marshmellow update, because Note 3 is already old, despite the hardware being more than enough to handle it. It's not a hardware limitation but rather Samsung pulling to plug, plus, by now if you are carrier locked, no carrier will push an update for a phone which is over 24 months old.
Probably we will see a Marshmellow update, but it'll be unofficial. If you ask me, that's more than enough.
right! who likes touchwiz? hehe

unofficial ported rom by developers
I got tired of waiting for my note 3 to get updated, that's why I started flashing ROM's.
Currently using temaseks Rom (CM 13) and loving it. Will never use Samsungs Touch wiz ever again.
Note 3 abandoned. I paid 800 for this. At least Microsoft will push updates till the pc crashes. Last Samsung cell phone I'll ever purchase.
