[Q] buying used Note 3 - any particular baseband to avoid/seek out? - Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am interested in purchasing a used VZW note 3. I want to be able to root and use safe strap custom recovery.
Is there any baseband versions I should avoid that would prevent the ability to root and safe strap? Is there a better version over another to look for?
Thanks in advance.

I believe you can root whatever baseband you are one.

(q) mk2 aosp

I just recently rooted my Samsung galaxy s4.i purchased it the other day and it's running MK2 I was able to use safe root to do so. I also have safe boot installed as a recovery. My question is, how can I install aosp roms? I couldn't find any information on this. The only roms safe boot supports is stock. Where do I go from here? I am new to s4 so please be nice. Thank you so much.

Its to bad you didn't get the S4 back when it was released or earlier last summer when it was shipping with MDL firmware. This firmware allowed us to use loki and install any custom rom we want, including pure kitkat. Maybe you can trade your new one for an MDL one.
Well. ... Is there a way that I could downgrade my firmware and root from there?

I wish you could. Devices running MF3 firmware or higher blew an eFuse when they upgraded from MDL firmware. There is no way back. AT&T and Samsung are doing everything possible to make it so we can't root or flash custom recoveries. It's beyond disgusting how much AT&T goes out of its way to stop us from getting into our own devices.
I'd recommend not purchasing the AT&T branded devices from here on out. Let's hope that the international version of the s5 supports AT&T's LTE bands.

Rooting ATT Galaxy S4

Okay awhile back I found a thread on the net to root the Galaxy S4 and change it to pure Kitkat. The only problem was it wasn't made for my phone, I think it was for another variance of the device. With that being said I want to try again and another site someone mentioned a ROM called AOSP....Is there a dummy-proof way of rooting the device and adding this or another ROM onto my ATT Samsung Galaxy S4?
I appreciate any assistance. I am somewhat familiar with rooting as I've rooted my older Droid X awhile back.
Thanks

Be careful that you know what you are doing before flashing roms to your phone. You should post more information about your device when asking a question (I.e. what carrier and firmware ,mdl, mf3, or mk2).
If you are on any firmware before the mf3 version(mdl) you can easily install a "custom recovery" like twrp or cwm to your S4 but the versions after would require a mod called "safestrap" to be installed which have a modified version of a custom recovery. It is similar but not the same.
Read around first to understand more. You may be lucky and have the version with an unlocked bootloader and that allows you to flash roms, kernels, and more.
But if you have the locked bootloader you can easily brick your phone and would need to odin back to a firmware and lose your data. Just look in settings>about phone and look at the last 3 letters in baseband.

Please read the forum before posting.. Your laziness is not respected if you want to root your device then you need to be able to research what your doing before you do it especially if you are on the xda forum... Look up the method to revert back to mk2 and then you can root for nb1 there is no method yet... And you cannot get the stock android experience which is aosp.

How to unroot Note 3?

Hi,
I rooted Note 3 with towelroot recently and my knox is still 0 and would like to keep it that way. Would also like to keep all my settings and apps if possible too. I haven't flashed any roms or anything like that. Only thing I've done is grant some of my apps root access and downloaded an app that required root (which since then I've uninstalled). Now however I see a new firmware update is available for my Note 3 and would like to update to it. I'm sorta new to the Android scene, so don't know where to start to do this, so would appreciate any guidance.
Is there also anything I should do while on root before I unroot?
Thanks
@XLAAX you dont need to unroot to upgrade firmware. Use odin method to upgrade it.
You will find it on sammobile

So what will happen when I unroot using this? Will the phone be unrooted again or will it keep root? Also will knox be tripped using this method?

Hmm, I was under the impression that you need to unroot your phone to upgrade the firmware. If this isnt the case, then no real need to unroot I suppose.
What about Android L? Will I need to unroot for that? (Realise you can't predict such a thing, but has there ever been a case where you needed to unroot for an android firmware?)
EDIT: Oh and for future knowledge, how should I handle OTA updates? Should I not update that way if I'm rooted?

I dont know about towel root I used cf auto root and I upgraded to 4.4.2 after rooting.
But I am sure there is no need to unroot in any case.
Android L ia not yet been out for note 3.

S5 SafeStrap ROM Help...Can I use CM13?

Hi. Using a CID11 device w/ KINGROOT/SAFESTRAP
I know the bootloader is locked and all, but will I still be able to use CyanogenMod 13 ?
http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=kltevzw
I know this is a noob question as the S5 is pretty locked down now 'geocold' is helping the enemy, but is it still at all possible to use CM13 with this safe strap option on a CID11 device.
also is there any other ROMs I could use that are similar with any kind of custom kernel that helps preserve battery life like in the past or is that a no now since the bootloader is locked.
lastly will I loose root if I can do any of the above.
....
very new to the S5 please bare with me lol

You shouldn't lose any data but a backup is always wise
According to the thread you have to be on rooted PB1 firmware and use safestrap
The guide is specific so follow his guide exactly
I would do a back up in Samsung Smart Switch or Samsung kies 3 before you use or use safestrap backup whatever you prefer

Oh ok, yeah since I'm on OK3 will I need to do the whole KingRoot method again? or if I flash to PB1 from ODIN will I still keep root/safestrap/bb not sure how this all works just started using the S5 today.
Also once that is all done, and I'm on a rooted PB1 ... I'll be able to flash threw safestrap to a MM 6.0.1 ROM ? but when I do this wont I loose root? and I thought root not able to be obtained on MM 6.0.1 with CID11 devices? this is where it gets to be confusing for me, sorry for all the questions

You will lose root if you go up to cm13 using this method
If you need root then the linked method above may not be for you

Yes I can not use android with out root lol, but thanks for showing me all this anyways its progress I guess, not sure if this handset was worth the money now knowing all this, but I'll stick with it.
I see no point in even bothering to run CM13 or any custom rom really with out the use of root. ehhhh anyway. Backing up my apk/data using a snazzy lil app called MyBackup Pro. for the migration.
Thanks for the help. Looks like I'll be staying on the 5.0 OK3 rom then since at least I have it rooted, and some kind of recovery even tho the whole safestrap touchwiz thing is not pleasing its better than nothing.

Depends on what model s4 they have. Just look in the thread for you specific model on how to root and what ROMs are available

TextNow uses the L720T (TriBand) model. I know BC I have one lol. I rooted simply by flashing TWRP 3.0.2.0 for "jfltespr" off TeamWin's site via ODIN, then proceeding to flash the SuperSU zip inside recovery. However, word of the wise, if you're using TextNow Wireless, don't change the ROM!! You will lose the connection between TextNow and Sprint, meaning you'll have 2 different numbers and it messes stuff up. Fun fact in case you didn't know, TextNow S4s are SIM unlocked (GSM will not work in United States, CDMA will though):good:
